MADONNA GRANTED APPEAL HEARING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:03 pm

MADONNA is heading back to court in Malawi next month (May09) to appeal a ruling blocking her from adopting three-year-old MERCY JAMES.
The Material Girl’s request for an interim adoption of the youngster was turned down by a court in the country’s capital Lilongwe on 3 April (09).
The bid was reportedly rejected because of a requirement that prospective parents must be resident in Malawi for 18 to 24 months prior to adoption.
Madonna’s lawyer immediately lodged an appeal against the decision and has been granted a hearing at the country’s Supreme Court of Appeal on 4 May (09). Three judges will then decide the case.
The singer’s Malawian lawyer, Alan Chinula, is hopeful of a successful appeal as the initial rejection was based "on an archaic law of over 50 years ago".
Madonna’s adoption of Malawian tot David Banda, three, was made official last year (08) following two years of legal wrangling. She is also mum to Rocco, eight, from her marriage to Guy Ritchie, and 12 year old Lourdes, from a previous relationship.

MADONNA ‘BETTER’ AFTER RIDING ACCIDENT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:00 pm

MADONNA is on the mend following her horse-riding accident at the weekend (18Apr09), and recuperating at pal GWYNETH PALTROW’s home.
The singer was admitted to Southampton Hospital, New York on Saturday with minor injuries and bruises after the fall at celebrity photographer Steven Klein’s Bridgehampton farm.
She was discharged on Saturday night and spent most of Sunday (19Apr09) resting at Paltrow’s house in nearby Amagansett, reports the New York Daily News.
However, the Material Girl hitmaker already appears to be getting back to full health after posing briefly for waiting photographers outside Paltrow’s home and insisting she was feeling "better".
Madonna’s spokesperson Liz Rosenberg has blamed paparazzo Thomas Hinton for Madonna’s fall, accusing the photographer of jumping out of the bushes and startling the horse in his attempt to get a picture of the pop star.
Hinton denies the claim, insisting he was on a public road when the incident took place.
Rosenberg added in a statement: "Madonna will be having further tests and continues to remain under observation by doctors." The star previously broke three ribs, a hand and her collar bone in an equestrian accident in 2005.

BELL’S MOTHER CRINGED AT DOMINATRIX ROLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 7:57 pm

KRISTEN BELL’s mother beamed with pride when the star appeared on the New York stage - but was horrified to see her dressed up as a dominatrix.
The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star appeared in the sexy role in the 2001 off-Broadway production of Reefer Madness, and her dedicated mother Lori attended as many shows as she could.
But Lori often found herself excusing her daughter’s daring costume to those sat around her.
Bell says, "I had to dress up in a dominatrix outfit and my mother is still in denial about it. When my mum came to see it, she’d spend her whole time whispering to the people next to her, ‘That’s my daughter up there, but she’s not really like that’.
"I was in some latexy jumpsuit and high-heeled boots and, to be quite frank, when you’re up on stage under those bright lights the suit doesn’t smell too great by the end of the evening.
"Added to that, I couldn’t handle the whip at all and kept hitting people nearby, so I was a legitimately scary dominatrix. Believe me, there’s nothing sexy about a clumsy girl wielding a whip."

DAMON TURNED DOWN STAR TREK

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:51 pm

Director J.J. ABRAMS has confirmed he originally approached MATT DAMON to take on the role of CAPTAIN KIRK in the new STAR TREK remake - but the actor turned him down.
The space age franchise originally featured William Shatner as the heroic starship captain, but the veteran stars from the first films have been replaced with a younger cast for the upcoming prequel.
And Lost creator Abrams admits Damon was his first choice for the starring role of Kirk - but he is glad to have been given the chance to subsequently hire little known star Chris Pine.
He tells America’s Life magazine, "I actually approached Matt and we had some discussions, but everything happens for a reason. On the one hand, it would have been great to work with Matt - but at the end of the day, it was such a better move to cast the movie with unknowns." The rest of the cast is also made up of lesser known actors, including Heroes’ Zachary Quinto as Spock and Simon Pegg as Scotty.
And Abrams is convinced the casting will help make the characters more believable.
He adds, "It is fun to discover the stars of tomorrow, but even more so, just like with the first Star Wars, you didn’t know who those people were when you saw the movie. You believed that guy was Luke Skywalker. You didn’t recognise him from six other movies. You bought into who this guy was. It is a slippery slope when you cast any actor that is somewhat known. We weren’t beholden to any fame meter.'’ Star Trek is due for release next month (May09).
