COWELL TO QUIT IDOL IF RATINGS FALL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:39 pm

SIMON COWELL has vowed to quit the judging panel on AMERICAN IDOL if the hit U.S. show slips from the top spot in the TV ratings.
The music mogul serves as a judge on the talent programme and it regularly pulls in 22 million viewers per episode across America.
But Cowell is adamant that if the programme ever took a tumble in the ratings, he’d quit his prized role on the singing series.
He says, "Being number one is verging on an obsession with me. I don’t like being number two. I don’t mind when you start at number 10 - people don’t always go on as number one - and you’ve got somewhere to go. But if you’re at the point you’ve reached it, of course you want to stay there." And the star is already planning to bring a new music venture to U.S. audiences in a bid to keep himself top of the ratings all year round.
Cowell adds, "We have to bring in another music show. In the U.K., there is more than one type of music show running throughout the year. And I think the same thing could happen here, because for the fall, nothing really happens. It’s something we’ve been thinking about… I would definitely do it now."

Former L.A. LAW star CORBIN BERNSEN is facing legal action from the owners of a storage company who allege the actor owes $66,600 (£45,931) in unpaid rent.
The bosses of an unnamed depot in Van Nuys, California have filed papers at Los Angeles Superior Court accusing the star of failing to pay fees for a unit rented between 2004 and January 2009.

The suit is seeking reimbursement of the allegedly unpaid rent plus interest and late charges on both units.
Representatives for Bernsen have acknowledged the long-running dispute with the company, but claim bosses haven’t upheld certain aspects of the lease agreement, according to TMZ.com.

NO SIN CITY STRIP SHOW FOR LOHAN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:45 am

LINDSAY LOHAN has denied reports she is set to shed her clothes in a new topless Las Vegas stage act.
The 22-year-old was snapped posing with ex-Spice Girl Melanie Brown on the opening evening of sexy striptease production Peepshow - which sees the former singer perform a range of Burlesque-style routines in the Sin City revue.
Brown won rave revues for her performance and her body as she kicked-off the show last week (18Apr09), which will see different celebrities rotate in the lead role.
And speculation mounted that Lohan, who hasn’t starred in a film since 2007, had jetted to Las Vegas to meet up with the revue’s creator, Broadway director/choreographer Jerry Mitchell.
She had reportedly talked to Mitchell about the possibility of taking over from actress Kelly Monaco once her stint is over.
But the Mean Girls star’s rep has brushed off the rumours.
The spokesperson tells Radar Online, "She isn’t interested at this time but it seems people are out there are saying she is doing this."

SPELLING: ‘I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY TORI WON’T SPEAK TO ME’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:45 am

CANDY SPELLING is desperately trying to understand why her estranged daughter TORI SPELLING is ignoring her pleas to reconcile - insisting she has no idea why the actress has decided to sever all family ties.
Mother and daughter have struggled to mend their rocky relationship for years, but briefly reconciled in 2007 after the birth of Tori’s son Liam with second husband Dean McDermott.
But Candy - who has not met her daughter’ second child, 10 month old Stella - admits she’s baffled as to why her daughter has cut off contact, but recalls her daughter’s 2004 marriage to Charlie Shanian as a turning point in their relationship.
Candy says, "She stopped talking to all of us shortly after she married her first husband. She stopped talking to my husband (late TV mogul Aaron Spelling). She stopped talking to myself. We’ve talked (but) she never really has said why she was angry." The 63 year old made a public plea on her website to reunite the family earlier this month (Apr09), but she has yet to hear from Tori - and admits she’s unsure how to reach out to her daughter in private.
She adds, "Evidently she just moved and I did not know where she lived. Since then, I was contacted by two real estate people who have given me her address. Should I just show up at her house? She won’t answer my calls, she won’t answer my emails, she won’t answer my texts.
"I’m a mother, I’ve made mistakes with my children and I feel bad about that. We all have good and bad times when we’re raising children. But I have to tell you I would love Tori to come and talk to me. I know she’s angry and I don’t know about what and I know she’d feel better if she’d talk about it."

HOWARD DEFENDS ANGELS & DEMONS AGAINST CATHOLIC OUTRAGE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:39 am

Moviemaker RON HOWARD has reached out to the Catholic church before the release of his controversial blockbuster ANGELS & DEMONS - insisting even the most devout believers will enjoy the film.
Angels & Demons is the prequel to 2006’s The Da Vinci Code, which came under fire from Catholic leaders who claimed the movie attacked the core beliefs of the Christian faith.
The Vatican went on to show their distaste for the Tom Hanks project, an adaptation of Dan Brown’s novel, by refusing permission for the follow-up to be shot in Rome’s churches last year (08).
And in March (09), church officials hinted they would approve a boycott of the forthcoming blockbuster - stating in the Vatican’s official newspaper that religious leaders "cannot approve" the movie.
But Howard has jumped to his work’s defence, stating that the Church should see the film for what it is - an "exciting mystery" - and not as a smear against Catholicism.
He writes in a blog for The Huffington Post, "Let me be clear: Neither I nor Angels & Demons are anti-Catholic. And let me be a little controversial: I believe Catholics, including most in the hierarchy of the Church, will enjoy the movie for what it is: an exciting mystery, set in the awe-inspiring beauty of Rome." The movie is slated for a May (09) global release.

SHERIDAN’S EXIT RATINGS LESS THAN ELECTRIFYING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:39 am

NICOLLETTE SHERIDAN’s departure from DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES failed to pull in the ratings TV bosses had hoped for - the episode attracted 1.3 million less viewers than the season average.
Sheridan bowed out of her role as TV siren Edie Brit in the U.S. on Sunday (19Apr09), with her character being killed off in a dramatic car crash involving a power pole.
But the show’s ratings were less than electrifying - ABC chiefs were stunned to find the star’s climatic demise failed to persuade viewers to tune in.
The show’s latest season has seen an average U.S. audience of 15.2 million, but Sheridan’s exit only pulled in 13.9 million, according to Nielseon Media Research.
But network executives have put the lower figures down to a month-long break between original episodes.
Sheridan was cut from the show to cut costs, with show creator Marc Cherry admitting he had been put under "tremendous pressure" to scale down the series’ budgets.
The move didn’t sit well with the actress, who warned: "(Killing off Edie) was a risky decision that could have devastating ramifications."

FARROW TO STARVE FOR SUDAN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:36 am

Dedicated human rights campaigner MIA FARROW has declared herself on hunger strike in recognition of the starving people dying in war-torn Sudan.
The actress, a U.N. Goodwill Ambassador, will risk her own life by drinking only water from the end of April (09) in a bid to show "solidarity" with the people in the devastated Darfur region.
The star hopes the act will highlight her personal disgust at world leaders, who she claims have failed to take action to stop the bloodshed in the country.
In an official statement, Farrow says, "On April 27 I will begin a fast of water only in solidarity with the people of Darfur and as a personal expression of outrage at a world that is somehow able to stand by and watch innocent men, women and children needlessly die of starvation, thirst and disease." The Rosemary’s Child star will continue her hunger strike as long as possible, with doctors warning the actress can only stay alive for three weeks without food due to her slender frame.
Farrow has long helmed a campaign to highlight the plight of the people of Sudan, whose president, Omar al-Beshir, has been accused of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.
