WEST TRIUMPHS OVER JAY-Z AS COMPLEX’S BEST DRESSED RAPPER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:06 pm

Fashionable hip-hop star KANYE WEST has been named the best dressed rapper of all time in a new magazine poll.
The Stronger hitmaker, who recently launched his own sneaker designs with Nike and Louis Vuitton, beat his Roc-A-Fella Records boss Jay-Z to win the style title with 77 per cent of the final votes.
West is overjoyed with the Complex magazine honour - but admits he owes N.E.R.D. star Pharrell Williams for crossing the boundary between music and fashion.
And he has complimented a host of his rap peers for making hip-hop more stylish - although he admits he’s made some fashion mishaps in the past.
In his note of thanks, West writes, "Man, I want to thank everybody. this is a real honour! This whole year has been so overwhelmingly positive… "It means a lot to be able to get respect from my core and peers even though everybody knows I get a little crazy with the clothes sometimes… It’s nice to read something positive for a change! Pharrell pioneered what I do now. He was the original to break down doors between “real fashion” and hip hop worlds, doing beats for Noreaga and running around with the model chicks.
"(Rick) Ross gets real fresh. T.I. has a great effortless sense of style. Jay(-Z) has set mad trends and is the Sinatra of our era. Nobody is as fresh as Ralph Luaren (sic) himself, only Andre 3000 and (Fonzworth) Bentley get close but there’s still work to do.
"The uphill battle we have as hip hop artist (sic) is hip hop is rooted in trends. True style and trends very seldomely (sic) meet. That’s why we have a tendency to wear stuff that’s laughable 2 years later. When I see crazy stuff I’ve worn and people laugh at me, all I can do is laugh with you and think, I had fun though. Thanks again, Mr. West."

GARRISON WELCOMED HOME BY SIMPSON FAMILY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:06 pm

Actor LANE GARRISON was treated to a welcome home party by childhood pal JESSICA SIMPSON and her family on Wednesday (29Apr09) to celebrate his release from a California prison.
The former Prison Break star was locked up in November 2007 for a drink driving incident in December 2006, which left a 17-year-old passenger dead.
He was due to serve 40 months behind bars on charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence after alcohol and traces of cocaine were found in his system, but he won an early release for good behaviour.
Garrison was met by friends and family as he left California Correctional Institute in rural Tehachapi in the early hours of Wednesday, and reunited with more pals at a special afternoon bash held at Joe and Tina Simpson’s Enchino, California home, reports Eonline.com. Pop star Jessica attended the bash, although her sister Ashley was not present.
But the party was a short-lived one - after mingling with guests, the fallen star headed to the Tarzana Treatment Center, where he is will undergo a five-month stint to kick his drug habit and shorten his probation period.
And Garrison is keen to put his troubles behind him so he can use his experiences to aid others.
He says, "I’m blessed to be alive. I’m just worried about getting through treatment right now. I’m looking forward to getting on with my life and doing the right thing and helping people." Garrison’s release comes just weeks after he settled a civil suit with the family of his victim Vahagn Setian. The details of the deal have not been disclosed to the public.

PARTON’S PROSTITUTE MIX-UP

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:06 pm

Country music legend DOLLY PARTON swore she’d never return to New York City after she was mistaken for a prostitute.
The singer has been on a whirlwind press tour of the city as she prepares for the opening night of Broadway musical 9 to 5 on Thursday (30Apr09).
And Parton admits she boycotted the Big Apple for many years after she was propositioned by a stranger for sex during a vacation with a girlfriend over 40 years ago.
She remembers, “Our daddies had given us both a gun when we left home. So I had a gun. We didn’t know we were walking around on 42nd street. That’s where it was bad and the prostitutes run in pairs for their safety.
"We looked like we might be them (prostitutes) because I still had the big hair, looking trashy like I do. This guy was trying to put the make on me, kept pushing me against the wall… I said, ‘Look, if you touch me one more time I’m gonna shoot you!’" And when the scared pair were locked out of the hotel, Parton left in a fury, certain she’d never look back.
She adds, "They thought we were turning tricks. Our luggage was in the hall. We had to go to the airport wait for hours and hours. I didn’t come back here for years. I thought I’d never come back.”

FLOWERS HITS OUT AT COACHELLA PROTESTERS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:03 pm

THE KILLERS frontman BRANDON FLOWERS has slammed protesters who tried to prevent the band from playing at the Coachella music festival - insisting they should learn to love the Las Vegas rockers.
The Mr Brightside hitmakers headlined the legendary California event earlier this month (Apr09), but were hit with a petition from furious music fans who claimed the coveted Saturday night slot should have been reserved for a "real" rock band.
The Killers went ahead with the set, but Flowers is furious their inclusion in the festival sparked such outrage - calling on concert-goers to move on from legendary bands of the past and embrace their pop/rock sound.
He tells British magazine NME, "There was actually a protest against us playing at Coachella. People started a petition to try and get some other ‘more epic’ band to headline the Saturday night. But those people can f**k off. I’d put our set at Coachella up against anybody in the world’s.
"People are still so obsessed with Led Zeppelin and Nirvana, those sort of bands. It’s just not us. There are a lot of great bands that have been confined by the influence of these people we’ve put up on pedestals. I’m tied of it. I just want to knock them off. And people don’t like that attitude."

FLOWERS DENIES RIFT WITH DRUMMER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:03 pm

THE KILLERS frontman BRANDON FLOWERS has denied rumours of a longrunning feud with drummer RONNIE VANNUCCI - insisting stories of a rift are "not true".
The singer sparked reports of tensions between the pair in March (09) after comparing their relationship to The Police rockers Sting and Stewart Copeland who famously fell out during the late 1970s and early 1980s.
But Flowers is adamant stories of major problems between the two Killers musicians have been greatly exaggerated.
He tells British magazine NME, "It’s not true. I mean tensions come and go but at the moment everybody’s being pretty nice to each other. We disagree about everything from what a single is going to be, to how many days off we are gonna have per week. We go through all that stuff. The band is a democracy and in a perfect world you’d have the same four answers. But the fact is, we don’t." Vannucci adds, "There is a happy, homey feel in the band lately. I can confirm there have been no fights."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:03 pm

FOXY BROWN has won her court battle with a New York woman who accused the rapper of smashing her in the head with a cell phone.
The female MC was targetted in the lawsuit filed last year (08) by Arlene Raymond, a neighbour in the star’s Brooklyn area of Crown Heights.
Raymond claimed Brown, real name Inga Marchand, harassed her at her Brooklyn workplace and during a confrontation over the decibel level of the rapper’s car radio smashed her in the face with a BlackBerry.
Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Robert Miller dismissed the case on Monday (27Apr09) because the rapper was never served with legal papers, reports the New York Post.

MENDES CANCELS OPERA DEBUT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:57 pm

SAM MENDES has pulled out of directing his first opera at the 2010 Glyndebourne Festival in England.
The acclaimed theatre director was due to helm a production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni for his highly-anticipated opera debut at the annual British event.
But he has now backed out, insisting his new U.S. theatre company "turned out to be much more time and energy-consuming than I ever could have guessed, and has tied me almost permanently to New York".
Mendes is adamant the cancellation was made with "great regret" and has nothing to do with the cast or production.
Jonathan Kent has signed up to replace Mendes at the Sussex, England festival.

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:57 pm

Lifestyle guru MARTHA STEWART has settled a lawsuit with a hand model over an accident with a faulty patio chair from her furniture line.
The domestic queen was sued by model/magician Patrick Albanese, who alleged the top of his index finger was chopped off after he caught it in the frame of the chair.
Doctors managed to reattach Albanese’s fingertip, but he filed suit alleging he has failed to fully recover from the injury and has lost earnings as a result.
However, Albanese’s attorney Guy Cook tells the National Enquirer Stewart has now settled the dispute with a pay off "to his satisfaction", although details of the deal have not been released to the public.

ALDRIDGE BACK ON HIS FEET

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:57 pm

JAMIE LYNN SPEARS’ boyfriend CASEY ALDRIDGE is back on his feet just days after he was injured in a car crash in Louisiana on Sunday (26Apr09).
Aldridge, the father of Spears’ 10-month-old daughter Maddie, had to be airlifted to hospital after swerving into a ditch following a night of celebrations at a cousin’s bachelor party.
He was treated for mild brain trauma and a fractured skull at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and was moved out of the intensive care unit (ICU) on Tuesday (28Apr09).
But his recovery has been going better than expected and Aldridge - who turned 20 on Wednesday (29Apr09) - was able to get out of his hospital bed and walk around on Tuesday for the first time since the accident.
A source tells People.com, "He came out of ICU. (He was up) walking around twice (on Tuesday). He was a little wobbly because that’s the first time he’s been up since the wreck." Aldridge was one of three people injured in the incident when they were thrown from the vehicle as it flipped over. Two other passengers escaped unscathed.
Police have hit Aldridge with a misdemeanour charge of careless operation of a vehicle - but authorities have ruled out both drink and drugs as the cause of the accident.

BALE STILL EMBARRASSED BY RANT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:54 pm

Actor CHRISTIAN BALE is still "embarrassed" by the foul-mouthed rant leaked from the set of TERMINATOR SALVATION - and hopes his antics won’t deter movie fans from seeing his films.
The Batman Begins star’s outburst during shooting for the action movie sequel last summer (Jul08) was caught on tape and the four-minute long audio, in which he uses the F-word 35 times, leaked onto the Internet in early February (09).
Bale is heard angrily reprimanding and hurling abuse and expletives at a director of photography who distracted him during a scene.
The recording attracted much criticism and the actor was forced to apologise for his "inexcusable" behaviour.
And Bale admits he still feels bad about the incident, and hopes his fans won’t punish him by deserting the upcoming sci-fi film at the box office.
Bale tells Total Film magazine, "I did what I did. I’m not hiding that. I went overboard. You’ll often try things and they’re abysmal, sometimes they’re embarrassing beyond belief but you’ve got to be able to try them and trust that it’s not going to be put out there and mocked.
"I’m not making any excuses. I’m not whining. Hey listen, I did it… it’s in public space. Hey, I take the consequences for it.
"It’s not in anyone’s interest to know that much. I get that they want to hear about it but to me I look at it as old-school movie magic and with magic you do not reveal your secrets." And Bale hopes internet gossip about his much-publicised slip-up won’t affect the movie - because he would love to bring the Terminator franchise back for one more film.
He adds, "I’d like to return to it, if people embrace it. It’s up to him out there."

KIRK DOUGLAS BREAKS HIS FOOT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:54 pm

Veteran actor KIRK DOUGLAS is hobbling around his Beverly Hills home after injuring his foot in a fall.
The 92-year-old star recently took a tumble at his California mansion but refused to see a doctor until the following day.
And, after consulting medics, Douglas discovered he had broken a bone in his foot.
The elderly actor has now been fitted with a plaster cast and been advised to rest for four weeks, but he insists the accident wasn’t as serious as it sounds.
He writes on his MySpace.com blog, "I must be clumsy. I was sitting on a chair dictating to my assistant Grace, I got up out of the chair, stumbled and fell against the wall. My foot was painful but I thought it would go away.
"The next day it got worse and my wife made me see a doctor. I was surprised to learn that I broke a bone in my foot and now I have to wear a heavy boot for a month!"

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:39 am

HEIDI KLUM is blaming husband SEAL for revealing all about her pregnancy - insisting he felt he had to break the news at a recent concert.
The German supermodel refused to confirm the baby news when it broke earlier this month (Apr09) and was stunned when her husband decided to tell his fans the stories were true during a show.
She says, "It kind of came out faster than I wanted it to. My husband kind of surprised me and everybody at one of his concerts. He was just on tour, so he kind of told everybody… He’s allowed to obviously." Excited Klum admits her fourth pregnancy has given her a sudden burst of energy - but she has to get to bed early.
And she insists her fourth kid will be her last: "That’s pretty much it. I’m very happy with four. We’re both happy with four… I think we’re complete."

MADONNA’S ADOPTION BID CHALLENGED BY MERCY’S DAD

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:39 am

MADONNA has been dealt a devastating blow in her bid to adopt Malawian orphan MERCY JAMES - the child’s father wants full custody of his little girl.
The Holiday hitmaker wanted to become mum to the three-year-old but her request for an interim adoption was turned down by a court in the country’s capital Lilongwe earlier this month (03Apr09).
Madonna appealed the decision and an African court hearing is scheduled for Monday (04May08).
But the singer’s hopes of the ruling being overturned could be dashed - Mercy’s biological father James Kambewa has now launched a bid to get his daughter back.
And he’s hit out at the 50 year old, branding her "scandalous" and calling her failed marriage to Guy Ritchie and subsequent relationship with toyboy lover Jesus Luz, 22, an indication of a lack of "good morals".
Kambewa tells Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper, "She is my daughter; she is my blood; she needs parental love. She is not an orphan. She lost one parent, yes, but I am still alive and so she is not an orphan.
"Madonna has millions of dollars but that doesn’t make her a good mum. Parental love is more than money. Besides, I don’t think Madonna is a model mum. I have seen her in movies of her songs. She doesn’t portray good morals. How can a woman of 50 dance almost naked on stage? I wouldn’t want my daughter to grow up like that! In Malawi women respect themselves. Cultured women do not go about half-naked.
"I also heard after her marriage failed she is already seeing two men, both very younger than her and her ex-husband. I hear one of them is even less than half her age. That’s scandalous. How can a normal woman fall for a boy who can as well be her son? No, spare my Mercy that scandal." Kambewa has enlisted the help of the Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC) to acquire a lawyer to fight his corner.
In a letter to the organisation he writes, "I have learnt that an American-musician called Madonna has applied to a court for the adoption of the kid, to which the grandmother has consented. However, I do not consent to the adoption because I feel I am capable of raising the child."

GARNER SHOWS OFF INJURIES ON LETTERMAN SHOW

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:36 am

JENNIFER GARNER sported nasty cuts on her arms and legs during an appearance on a U.S. TV show on Wednesday (29Apr09) - and found an unlikely nurse in host DAVID LETTERMAN.
The actress took a painful tumble earlier this month (Apr09) and grazed her knee, elbow and wrist in the freak fall.
Garner put on a brave face in front of her three-year-old daughter Violet, but privately shed a few tears over the accident.
But the star didn’t let her injuries stop her from a planned visit to David Letterman’s Late Show, where she proudly showed off her wounds in a little black dress during the interview.
She says, "Isn’t it just a nightmare? Violet said, ‘Mama, did you cry?’ and I said, ‘I did cry a little bit, it really hurt’, and she said, ‘I want to see you cry again.’" Letterman then produced some healing cream from his desk and applied it to Garner’s cuts, before the actress swiped the antiseptic and put it down the top of her dress - to use again later.
She adds, "I went down hard!"

COUNTRY SINGER GOSDIN DIES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:36 am

Country singer VERN GOSDIN has died, aged 74.
The star suffered a stroke earlier this month (Apr09) and was under hospice care when he passed away on Tuesday (28Apr09) in Nashville, Tennessee.
Gosdin found fame in the 1960s as a member of the Golden State Boys, and then formed The Gosdin Brothers with his brother Rex.
He took time out from the music industry in the 70s and operated a glass company, before returning to the spotlight as a solo singer in 1976.
Gosdin hit the top spot in the U.S. charts many times in the 1980s, with tracks such as I’m Still Crazy and Set ‘Em Up Joe and went on to win the Los Angeles Times Best Country Album Of The Year award for 1984s There Is A Season.
Stars have come out to pay tribute to the singer, with Grammy Award-winning George Strait saying, "He was one hell of a country singer and helped me out a lot on my very first tour." Fellow country singer Josh Turner adds, "The news of Vern’s death puts me beyond sad. He was one of my unofficial vocal coaches. He taught me what ‘country soul music’ was. Country music has lost one of its ambassadors." Gosdin is survived by a son.
