GOLDEN GIRLS PAY TRIBUTE TO ARTHUR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:48 am

Veteran actresses BETTY WHITE and RUE MCCLANAHAN have paid tribute to their GOLDEN GIRLS co-star BEA ARTHUR, who died on Saturday (25Apr09).
The actress passed away peacefully in her sleep at her Los Angeles home after losing her battle with cancer aged 86, according to personal assistant Dan Watt.
Arthur, who starred in the hit show from 1985 until 1992, won an Emmy Award for her role as Dorothy Zbornak in the sitcom, which chronicled the lives of three retirees in Miami.
And co-stars White and McClanahan fondly recall the seven happy years they spent with Arthur on the series.
McClanahan tells Entertainment Tonight. "(Thirty-seven) years ago she showed me how to be very brave in playing comedy. I’ll miss that courage. And I’ll miss that voice." White adds, "I knew it would hurt, I just didn’t know it would hurt this much. I’m so happy that she received her Lifetime Achievement Award while she was still with us, so she could appreciate that.
"Bea was such an important part of a very happy time in my life and I have dearly loved her for a very long time. How lucky I was to know her." Born in 1922, Arthur grew up in New York and earned a degree as a medical laboratory technician, before enrolling in a drama course at the New School of Social Research in the city.
She shot to fame in her twenties with numerous stage roles and won critical acclaim for her performance in a 1964 production of Fiddler on the Roof on Broadway.
Arthur also landed a Tony Award for her turn as Vera Charles in 1966 musical Mame - and composer Jerry Herman was taken aback by her natural acting ability and comic timing.
He says, "There was no one else like Bea. She would make us laugh during Mame rehearsals with a look or with a word. She didn’t need dialogue. I don’t know if I can say that about any other person I ever worked with." The actress moved on to television in her fifties and won the starring role in 1970s show Maude, for which she also won a coveted Emmy Award, before landing her part in The Golden Girls.
Arthur married twice - first to producer and director Robert Alan Aurthur and then to director Gene Saks from 1950 to 1978. The couple adopted two sons.
She is survived by a sister, her children Matthew and Daniel and two granddaughters.

COLE CONFIRMS SOLO CAREER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 4:42 pm

GIRLS ALOUD star CHERYL COLE has confirmed she will take time out from the band to record a solo album.
The singer, who is also a judge on TV talent show The X Factor, will begin working on her own music this summer (09).
But a spokesman for the British girl band insists Cole’s solo efforts will not spell the end for the group - as they are contracted to make three more albums together, including one in 2010.
The rep also revealed the other members of the girl group - Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh - will also be using time away from the band to concentrate on their own projects, from "music to acting to beauty to fashion".
He says, "Cheryl is going to work on some solo music - there is no release date set for this yet as she has not recorded any music. Her A&R people have approached various producers with the view to working with her.
"Until she has recorded music, we can’t say who will be working on the record as we can’t say at this stage what will make it past the idea stage." Cole’s bandmate Harding is to make her acting debut in forthcoming BBC drama Freefall, starring alongside Mamma Mia! actor Dominic Cooper, while Roberts has already embarked on several fashion and beauty ventures including a make-up line for women with pale skin.

LIAM GALLAGHER: ‘OASIS WON’T SPLIT BECAUSE OF RIFT’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 4:39 pm

LIAM GALLAGHER insists OASIS will never split, despite the tensions between him and bandmate brother NOEL GALLAGHER - because they’ve hated each other for the past 15 years.
The pair has taken their feud public in recent weeks, starting with Noel’s revelation that his brother has never met his 19 month old nephew Donovan.
The guitarist said, "Liam is… rude, arrogant, intimidating and lazy. He’s the angriest man you’ll ever meet. He’s like a man with a fork in a world of soup." But Liam wants to reassure fans the rift doesn’t mean a split is likely - insisting the brothers have never got on.
He says, "(Things are) not good. Not good. He likes Oasis and I like Oasis, so I’m not leaving and he’s not leaving, so we gotta do it, but we don’t get on, so I can’t be a**ed, man. He’s different and I’m different. We’ve done well, 15 years at it - 15 years of having problems together, we’ve done pretty well.
And he believes the band feeds off the Gallaghers’ feuding: "I think the minute we start getting happy and holding hands and being like other bands then I think it’ll be over. This is the tension, it’s like he wants to outdo me and I want to outdo him".

AEROSMITH SETTLE HAWAII LAWSUIT WITH FREE GIG

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 4:39 pm

Rockers AEROSMITH have settled a lawsuit filed by fans in Hawaii over a cancelled concert - by offering to play a free gig there.
The Walk This Way hitmakers have been embroiled in the feud since they scrapped a planned show in Maui on 26 September 2007.
And fans who planned to attend subsequently launched a legal action - claiming the band cancelled the date to focus on a more lucrative gig in Chicago, Illinois earlier that month.
But now attorneys for the group have settled the case by announcing they will reimburse all the concert-goers’ travel costs, handling fees and other expenses incurred by the cancellation.
They will also play a show in Maui, giving all original ticket-holders free entry.
Aerosmith’s lawyer, Jay Handlin, revealed the rockers are happy with the settlement: "The band is about the music. So they are glad to be able to resolve this in a way that really focuses on connecting or reconnecting the people of Hawaii with the band and its music." A date for the gig has yet to be announced, but it is believed the show will take place in September or October (09) after the band wraps up its North America tour.

MORTON REVEALS CRIMINAL PAST

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 4:36 pm

Actress SAMANTHA MORTON was convicted of threatening a girl with a knife when she was a teenager - following years of bullying while she was living in a care home.
The Minority Report star spent most of her childhood living in institutions in Nottingham, England.
And Morton, 31, has revealed she was tormented by bullies throughout her youth - and when she finally retaliated it led to a conviction and detention in a youth attendance centre at the age of 14.
The two times Oscar-nominee confronted the bullies and held a knife to an older girl’s throat, but was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
She was eventually convicted of a lesser charge of making threats to kill.
Morton says, "I was physically abused and I retaliated. (But) the only person I hurt in the end was myself.
"I didn’t touch her - wouldn’t have touched her - but the police restrained and then arrested me.
"I was locked in a cell for three days. It was terrible. I just sat there thinking, I don’t want this life - I’m not a petty criminal. I’m not a thug. I was so ashamed of myself." The star believes her 18-week sentence helped steer her away from a life of crime, and in future she hopes to take a break from acting to work with children in care.
Morton was first placed in care as a baby and, after a brief spell living with her father, spent the rest of her youth in a variety of foster and care homes.

KUTCHER PLEDGES $100,000 TO MALARIA CHARITIES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:21 pm

Hollywood star ASHTON KUTCHER has pledged $100,000 ($69,000) to aid the fight against malaria.
Kutcher bet his Twitter.com site would gather one million followers before news network CNN.com.
He won and CNN boss Ted Turner handed over the money, which Kutcher has donated to the United Nations (U.N), who are spearheading a battle to stop the spread of the deadly disease - which kills 3,000 children a day in Africa alone.
His generous donation prompted his wife Demi Moore, TV presenter Ryan Seacrest and talk show host Oprah Winfrey to make their own donations.
U.N. special envoy for malaria Ray Chambers says of the gestures - which coincide with World Malaria Day on Saturday (25Apr09): "A week ago Tuesday, malaria was the most often used word on Twitter as the result of the bet between Kutcher and CNN. And (CNN boss) Ted Turner has challenged Kutcher and his followers to raise another 100,000 for nothing but nets. If they do it, Turner will have Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore over for dinner." Record producer Quincy Jones has also been honoured by the U.N. for his contribution to the fight against Malaria.
Accepting an award from Chambers at a ceremony in Washington D.C., Jones said, "It’s a remarkable thing to be on the road to defeating this thing called malaria."

SNOOP IN COURT FOR ASSAULT CASE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:21 pm

SNOOP DOGG appeared in court in California on Friday (24Apr09) to fight a civil lawsuit from a man who alleges he was assaulted by the rapper in 2005.
Richard Monroe, Jr. is seeking $22 million (£15 million) in damages and punitive penalties from Snoop Dogg over claims the hip-hop star and his entourage attacked him during a concert at the White River Amphitheater on the outskirts of Seattle, Washington.
Monroe Jr. alleges the rapper - real name Calvin Broadus - hit him with a microphone after he jumped on stage and put his hand on the star’s shoulder. He then claims Broadus’ security guards hauled him off and delivered a savage beating.
He told jurors in Friday’s opening hearing in Santa Monica, "I was getting punched, kicked, kicked, punched. It was brutal. I was really in shock. I couldn’t believe it." Jurors were also shown a videotape of the incident.
Broadus’ attorneys have hit back at the allegations - insisting the star thought he was being attacked when the man suddenly jumped on stage.
The lawyer also claim Monroe Jr.’s alleged injuries were not "evidence of someone who was savagely beaten".
Broadus is expected to testify during the trial which will last a week.

STONE LAWSUIT ‘SEALED IN ERROR’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:18 pm

Court officials in Los Angeles have released details of a civil lawsuit filed against Hollywood star SHARON STONE after a judge "inadvertently" cloaked the case in secrecy.
Attorney William Jacobson sued the Basic Instinct actress earlier this year (09), along with two film companies, Libertine Films, Inc. and Chaos Productions, Inc., for $107,000 (£73,793) in legal fees he claimed were unpaid, plus interest.
But the case, said to be a routine contract dispute, was kept from public view after Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Maureen Duffy-Lewis "inadvertently" granted both sides’ wish to have the records sealed.
An investigation by a local Californian newspaper, the City News Service, revealed the error and the case was made public on Friday (24Apr09) in a hearing with the court system’s presiding judge.
In a previous hearing during the privacy dispute, Judge Duffy-Lewis admitted, "No court has the jurisdiction to summarily decide that they will seal records because it’s painful or because it’s embarrassing or because they just deem it to be private for the parties." The records show the case was settled earlier this year (09) for undisclosed terms.
