BEYONCE is baffled critics doubted her vocal ability after an altered out-of-tune recording was leaked online last week (begs20Apr09) - because the audio was "obviously a hoax".
The superstar found herself at the centre of controversy on Wednesday (22Apr09) when American shock jock Howard Stern aired audio of Beyonce appearing to screech along to her hit song If I Were A Boy during a TV performance last November (08).
Her father Mathew Knowles quickly dismissed the tape as a fake, before art student Matthew Zeghibe came forward to confess his scam and apologise.
And although Beyonce has laughed off the incident, she admits being shocked people took the recording seriously and ever doubted her singing ability.
She tells the New York Daily News, �I knew it was a joke. I knew it was supposed to be silly. Something like that I don�t even take seriously. I thought it was hilarious.
�The craziest thing was journalists were asking me about it when they hadn�t even listened to it. If you had heard it, it was obviously a hoax! More than anything, it�s amazing that someone can do something so obviously funny, and have the whole world take it the wrong way.�

A batch of unheard recordings made by JIMI HENDRIX at his home in 1968 are expected to sell for $220,000 (£150,000) at auction.
The tape features 14 tracks including a Bob Dylan cover and "softer" versions of numbers from the rock legend’s Electric Ladyland album.
It is believed Hendrix recorded it in New York but later gave it to Carl Niekirk, who worked in a photography studio below the Hey Joe hitmaker’s London apartment.
Niekirk later sold the tape in a bar for a "nominal fee", and the current owners have put it up for auction after a long-running legal dispute with the administrators of Hendrix’s estate.
The online sale, organised by pop memorabilia auctioneers Fame Bureau, will take place on Tuesday (28Apr09).
Fame Bureau managing director Ted Owen is adamant the tape is genuine: "It’s pretty obvious. I have listened to nearly every outtake of Jimi Hendrix and am very familiar with the personal reels. Thirty seven are known to exist, but now only one is out there in the public domain.â��

Ailing singer NATALIE COLE fears she’ll die before she gets the chance to undergo a life-saving kidney transplant.
The 59-year-old is suffering from kidney failure, caused by the hepatitis C she contracted during her time as an intravenous heroin user.
Cole has been placed on a waiting list for a replacement organ, while friends and family members are being checked out as possible matches.
But she admits she’s terrified she’ll run out of time - and has placed her fate in God’s hands.
Cole tells Los Angeles Confidential magazine, "At the moment, where it’s coming from, heaven only knows."

Rockers CREED have confirmed they are reuniting for a new album and tour this summer (09), ending months of speculation.
The group split in 2004 but rumours began circulating in December (08) about plans for a major 2009 comeback tour.
Now frontman Scott Stapp reveals the reports are true and they are working on a new record titled Full Circle - although they refuse to call their chart return a reunion.
He tells People.com, "We never felt like we weren’t together. We’re not looking at this as a reunion. It’s more of a rebirth." And Stapp insists the bandmembers have settled the differences that forced them apart in the first place: "I said, ‘I love you and if I’ve ever caused you any pain in your life forgive me.’ And they said the same things right back."

GOOD CHARLOTTE star JOEL MADDEN has hit out at airline workers after he was banned from boarding a plane until he covered up his tattoos.
The rocker was preparing to fly from Chicago, Illinois’ O’Hare International Airport to London to film a new music video when British Airways officials ordered him to hide the body art on his arms.
And he was left stunned when they told him he could not board the jet unless he complied with their regulations.
Madden vented his frustration on social networking site Twitter.com, telling fans: "Was just told by a british air person I can’t get on the plane till I cover my tatts. Should I fight the power? "I really actually am in shock, he won’t let me on the plane till I put long sleeves on and another BA rep is disagreeing." Madden later acknowledged he had given in to the demands - but planned to complain to company bosses over his treatment.
He updated his blog to read: "I still can’t believe Brit Air discriminated me for tatts. Unheard of. the guy was literally disgusted by me. I’m gonna write a letter!! "I did end up covering my tats. It’s not my style to cause a scene, I just had a convo with the BA guy, told him how it was discrimination." And Madden insists he was left humiliated by the incident: "Yes I covered up to board the BA flight. I didn’t want to miss it. And honestly I was embarrassed all the people were staring and laughing! "It’s not in the rules that I can find. My tatts arent offensive. Looking into it. I havent felt this small since the first time i asked nic (partner Nicole Richie) out." And Richie, who has a daughter with Madden, also waded in to the row, writing on her own Twitter.com page: "That’s the craziest story I’ve ever heard. It’s sad there is still such discrimination in this world. PS all of joel madden’s tattoos are spiritual. Since when is expressing your love for God & family against what British Airways stands for?"

Tony Award-winning actress MARILYN COOPER has died, aged 74.
Cooper died on Wednesday (22Apr09) night in Englewood, New Jersey, her friend actress Virginia Seidel, has confirmed. No cause of death had been revealed as WENN went to press.
The celebrated star performed on the New York stage for 25 years as an ensemble member, understudy and leading lady, and landed her Broadway debut in 1956 as a chorus girl in musical Mr. Wonderful.
Cooper won the Tony in 1981 as best featured actress for her performance in musical Woman of the Year, based on the 1942 Katharine Hepburn movie.
She also played Rosalia in the original cast of West Side Story and created the ensemble role of Agnes in Arthur Laurents’ Broadway play Gypsy.
Cooper has no immediate survivors.

Hollywood couple MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL and PETER SARSGAARD will marry in Italy in May (09), according to reports.

Director GUY RITCHIE has reportedly splashed out on a new home around the corner from ex-wife MADONNA’s London property - so he can be nearer to his two sons.
The pair ended their eight-year marriage back in November (08) and now share custody of eight-year-old son Rocco, and three-year-old David Banda, who they adopted from Malawi back in 2006.

MERYL STREEP is set to rule the Rome Film Festival - she will be honoured with the top award to mark her outstanding career.
The Out of Africa star will receive the Marcus Aurelius Lifetime Achievement Award, which has previously been bestowed upon industry legends such as Sir Sean Connery and Al Pacino.
Streep will reflect upon her four decades as she hosts an on-stage discussion for the event’s guests, sharing insights acquired throughout her lengthy career.

DAME HELEN MIRREN has been banned from singing around her home - because her husband cannot bear to hear her tuneless warbling.
The Queen star enjoys belting out tracks and often finds herself singing along to songs she hears.
But her director husband Taylor Hackford insists she should keep quiet - until she learns to carry a tune.
Mirren says, "I’ve got no musical abilities whatsoever. I sing if I’m listening to music. I sing along with it - I can hit the note if I’ve just heard it.

MADONNA is recovering from her recent horseriding accident with the help of model beau JESUS LUZ - after fashion mogul MARC JACOBS stepped in to keep the Brazilian in the U.S.

A source tells New York gossip column PageSix, "(Jacobs) wrote a letter of support for Jesus� work permit. Marc campaigned for Jesus, saying he is highly talented and a necessity to the label.
"All these fashion lines are hiring Jesus as a favour to Madonna. As long as he can legally work in the U.S., they can be together.� Jacobs� rep declined to comment.

MANDY MOORE was so nervous about premiering tunes from her newest album on Saturday (25Apr09) she underwent hypnosis to help her cope.
The singer/actress’ release Amanda Leigh hit U.S. shelves on Sunday (26Apr09) and the star marked the launch by playing an intimate gig for 280 lucky fans in Los Angeles the night before.
But Moore was so terrified about taking to the stage she sought the help of a hypnotherapist before the show.

Police have ruled out drugs or alcohol as the cause of JAMIE LYNN SPEARS’ boyfriend CASEY ALDRIDGE’s car crash this weekend (26Apr09).
Aldridge, who has a young daughter with Britney Spears’ little sister, was airlifted to the emergency room after he swerved into a ditch while driving down a Louisiana highway in the early hours of Sunday (26Apr09).
It has since emerged that three of the five people riding in the truck - including Aldridge himself - were thrown from the vehicle as it flipped over.
The 20-year-old suffered mild brain trauma and a fractured skull, while another passenger sustained a broken collarbone, and a third injured his hip, reports TMZ.com.
Jamie Lynn has rushed to Aldridge’s bedside as doctors keep him under observation at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Following the crash, he was slapped with a misdemeanour charge of careless operation of a vehicle - but authorities have declared there was no indication he was drunk or on drugs at the time of the crash.
Aldridge had attended a cousin’s bachelor party prior to the accident.

British model SOPHIE DAHL has launched a scathing attack on stick-thin stars - branding them "unsexy." The beauty, granddaughter of children’s author Roald Dahl, began modelling aged 19, gaining fame for her curvaceous British size 14 (U.S. size 10) figure.
She later shed the pounds over a number of years to reveal a more svelte frame.

JAMES MCAVOY could soon be a father - he and his actress wife ANNE-MARIE DUFF are hoping to start a family.
The pair met on the set of U.K. TV comedy Shameless before falling in love and tying the knot in 2006.
And now Duff, who lives in London with McAvoy, is hoping to extend their family by becoming a first-time mother.
She explains, "I would love to have a baby. As soon as the big fella (God) makes it happen, it would be brilliant. I’m not putting it off but unfortunately bodies don’t work that way." And she admits she and McAvoy are already getting plenty of practice at baby-making, laughing: "Of course, I enjoy sex. I have nerve endings. I mean, who doesn’t? Filmmaker SPIKE LEE has blasted reports basketball star KOBE BRYANT refused to cooperate for his new documentary until he was handed creative control of the project.
The Malcolm X moviemaker, an avid basketball fan who regularly sits courtside at professional games, struggled for months to gain permission from Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson and the NBA to film Kobe Doin’ Work.
Lee recruited 30 cameramen to follow Bryant as his team went up against the San Antonio Spurs on 13 April (09) for the day-in-the-life project.
But rumours suggested the entire shoot was nearly thrown into jeopardy when Bryant refused to participate in filming unless he was given creative control - reportedly forcing Lee to consider changing the film’s focus to another player.
Lee was said to have even driven to Bryant’s house to beg him to cooperate, but Bryant allegedly refused to see him.
A source tells the New York Post’s gossip column PageSix, "It went so far that Lee had a last-minute plan to substitute Spurs star Tim Duncan for Kobe and make the whole documentary about Duncan." However, a spokesperson for Lee has branded reports of a dispute "completely baseless".
Lee’s tribute to Bryant is set to air on U.S. sports network ESPN on 16 May (09).

MONTY PYTHON star TERRY JONES is set to become a father again - at the age of 67.
The comedian/director is expecting a child with girlfriend Anna Soderstrom, who is 41 years his junior.
He already has two grown-up children, Sally and Bill, with his ex-wife Alison Telfer.
Jones met 26-year-old Soderstrom at a book signing in 2004 at Oxford University where she was an undergraduate - and he subsequently split from Telfer, who he married in 1970.
But the news of the baby, which is due in the autumn (09), hasn’t been welcomed by everyone - Jones’ children are upset at the announcement, according to Britain’s Daily Telegraph newspaper.
A source tells the publication, "He doesn’t seem fazed by it, but everyone else is. If anything it’s a classic case of male pride taking over. Getting a young filly (girl) pregnant shows there’s life in the old dog yet.
"Alison and the kids are a different proposition. For them it’s devastating and humiliating. They’ll never speak about it because they’ve got far too much dignity for that."
