FERDINAND ROCKER BREAKS HIS FOOT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:42 pm

FRANZ FERDINAND rocker NICK MCCARTHY is performing shows sitting in a chair after injuring his foot during the British band’s U.S. tour.
The Take Me Out hitmakers are currently on a jaunt through the States, but disaster struck when McCarthy picked up a leg injury in a mystery accident.
He has to hobble around on crutches when he is not performing, and sits down during concerts to ease the pain.
But the rocker is hoping for an unconventional cure - he is experimenting with alternative therapies in a bid to overcome the injury.
In a posting on the Scottish band’s official blog, McCarthy writes: "I’ve bust my foot and it’s driving me insane but the shows are brilliant. Sitting around all day with my foot over my heart, to get the swelling down they tell me. I had to get out…
"This is the old Austrian tradition of the Kneipp Kur, which I learned back in my childhood in the Bavarian Alps. Who’d have known it would ever come in handy?" And McCarthy’s bandmates are helping to keep his spirits up - they have posted a light-hearted film on the website showing the guitarist hobbling around the Colorado countryside to the strains of Time To Say Goodbye by classical singers Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman.

MGMT SETTLES SARKOZY DISPUTE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:39 pm

Rockers MGMT have settled their dispute with French President NICOLAS SARKOZY - and will donate their pay-off to musicians’ rights groups.
The New York-based duo took action after discovering officials at Sarkozy’s political party - the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) - used their track Kids in a promotional campaign without permission.
But after calling in the lawyers, the band accepted an undisclosed sum in settlement, which they have pledged to hand to artists’ rights organisations.
In a posting on their website, MGMT write: "About two months ago it was brought to our attention (through the MGMT message board) that the UMP French political party was using our song Kids at rallies and posting videos of these rallies on their official website. Normally MGMT steers clear of mixing music and politics, but the fact that the UMP used our song without permission while simultaneously pushing anti-piracy legislation seemed a little wack.
"We believe that access to music benefits both the musicians and the fans, and has undoubtedly helped spread our music around the globe, while also expanding our personal musical collections. We didn’t want to be ‘typical Americans’ and sue, despite the amazing monetary benefit and chinchilla coats and Navigators (luxury cars) it would bring. Instead we’re using the settlement fee the UMP presented and donating it to artists’ rights organisations. Thank you France for the wonderful food. C’est bon. MGMT."

PORTMAN INVITES FANS ONTO VIRTUAL FILM SET

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:39 pm

NATALIE PORTMAN has launched a new internet community aiming to give fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse at what it takes to make a movie.
The actress, along with co-founder Christine Aylward, created MakingOf.com after realising several of her friends were intrigued and wanted to learn more about the film-making process.
Portman has recruited several big names - including directors Marc Foster and Michel Gondry, and actor Jason Bateman - to share their experiences and give moviegoers an all-access pass to the world of cinema.
And her website, unveiled during a press conference at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival, even explores the work of casting directors, make-up artists, and cinematographers.
She says, "Christine and I have been friends for a few years now and we were just talking one night and I was like, ‘I wonder why there isn’t a website that sort of encapsulates the experience of visiting a friend on a film set’. Every time a friend of mine came to visit (on set) I was sort of reminded of how exciting a place it is to work and I was reminded how little we all know when you’re just a moviegoer about all the different aspects that go into making a film.
"So the site is supposed to encapsulate that experience and give it to people who don’t have a friend they can visit on a film set so they can say, ‘How do they do that? What are those jobs that exist that people don’t even know about on film sets?’ "(It’s also an) experience for the serious, burgeoning filmmaker - there’s this whole generation now of people who are making their own movies with YouTube and similar sites and I’m sure they want expert advice and the opportunity to see how it looks up close. That’s the goal - to extend that access to everyone."

ALLEN GRANTED VICTORY IN ONGOING AD CASE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:36 pm

WOODY ALLEN has won the latest round of his battle against clothing giant AMERICAN APPAREL - the judge has ruled he does not have to prove the company’s advertisements are "sleazy".
The Annie Hall director filed suit against the firm last year (08), claiming ad bosses used his likeness on billboards without his consent, branding their campaigns "sexually gross, in a witless and infantile way".
The firm’s bosses hit back by challenging Allen to back up his allegations by identifying the ads to which he referred.
But according to the New York Post, a judge at Manhattan’s Federal Court in New York has overruled the demand, insisting Allen proved "he would not have voluntarily agreed to endorse" the company’s products on the unauthorised posters when they were erected two years ago.
Judge Thomas Griesa said, "There is no reason to require him to identify specific advertisements that he finds distasteful." Allen is suing American Apparel for more than $10 million (£6.9 million) in damages.

He tells the New York Daily News, "I’m all healed up now. I kept my hand open when I punched so I wouldn’t hurt him." And Rourke insists he and his fellow tough man have resolved their dispute off-camera: "Chris and I went out for drinks after. We’re all good now."

JACKMAN’S SHOWER SUPERSTITION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 10:51 am

HUGH JACKMAN came up with a bizarre way to channel his X-MEN character’s rage - by taking a cold shower every morning before filming.
The actor reprised his superhero role for X-Men Origins: Wolverine and made sure he was properly psyched up for his challenging days on-set.
In a bid to find Wolverine’s inner anger Jackman forced himself to take an ice-cold shower - and keep quiet during the excruciating experience.
He says, "It’s surprisingly easy to find that inner rage. I do a little trick every morning. I stumbled upon this on X-Men 1. I had to get rid of my hairspray first thing in the morning but my wife was asleep and there was no hot water, it was the middle of Toronto winter.
"I turned the water on and was waiting and I got in and I couldn’t make a noise. I don’t know how it was running; it was that cold.
"After 20 to 30 seconds I thought, ‘This is exactly how Wolverine feels all the time.’ It’s that inner rage but you can’t yell or do anything.
Every morning I do it. It’s now a bit of a superstition."

SNOOP DOGG DENIES ASSAULT ALLEGATION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 10:48 am

SNOOP DOGG testified in a California court on Monday (27Apr09) - and denied attacking a man during a 2005 concert in Washington.
Richard Monroe, Jr. alleges the hip-hop star - real name Calvin Broadus - hit him with a microphone after he jumped on stage and put his hand on the star’s shoulder during a show in Seattle, Washington before security guards hauled him away and delivered a savage beating.
He told jurors in Friday’s (24Apr09) opening hearing in Santa Monica, "I was getting punched, kicked, kicked, punched. It was brutal. I was really in shock. I couldn’t believe it." But the star denies the allegations, insisting he went back to his tour bus immediately after Monroe jumped on stage and was tackled by security.
Broadus, who was on the stand for almost two hours on Monday, was asked to identify performers and security personnel who can be seen on a videotape of the incident.
He claimed several people near the struggle were affiliated with The Game, who toured with him on the How the West Was Won tour.
The star told the court, "The best way for the injuries not to have occurred (was) for him (Monroe) to stay in his seat and enjoy the show like the rest of the fans." Monroe is seeking $22 million (£15 million) in damages and punitive penalties from Broadus over the claims.
The trial continues.
