JAPANESE POP STAR ARRESTED OVER NAKED PARK TRIP
A member of Japanese boy band SMAP has been arrested on suspicion of public indecency after he was allegedly caught naked and drunk in a Tokyo park.
Tsuyoshi Kusanagi was detained by cops in the early hours of Thursday morning (23Apr09) near the Roppongi nightclub district after a local resident alerted emergency services.
The star is said to have stripped off and sat cross-legged in the middle of the grass following a night out drinking with friends.
Reports suggest Kusanagi is unable to recall how he ended up in the park without his clothes.
A spokesman for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, says, "We are still interviewing him here and cannot give any further details." The news of Kusanagi’s arrest sparked a media furore in the country and has outraged politicians who recently hired the star for an expensive public information advertising campaign.
The singer-turned-TV personality is also said to have lost a number of his own advertising deals, with several major sponsors including Toyota and Procter & Gamble cancelling his contracts after hearing the news.
