STUDENTS CAMPAIGN AGAINST SPEAKER FRANCO

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:33 pm

Students at JAMES FRANCO’s former university are fuming after the actor was chosen to speak at this year’s (09) graduation ceremony.
The Milk star only received his undergraduate degree in English from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) last year (08).
And current students are angry a more eligible candidate wasn’t chosen.
A group of 200 have created a page on social networking site Facebook.com, to urge school officials to cancel his impending speech.
A statement from founders of the group UCLA Students Against James Franco as Commencement Speaker claims Franco lacks "the wisdom and perspective such a speaker is meant to provide the graduates".
Mocking the 30-year-old’s intelligence, they add: "Clearly, this is ridiculous. Anyone who has been in his classes knows he is an average student." Franco is currently enrolled at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where he studies filmmaking, and the city’s Columbia University where he’s completing an MFA Writing Program.

DOHERTY’S FROZEN CAT TERROR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:36 pm

British rocker PETE DOHERTY was left horrified when his attempt to bury his beloved pet cat "at sea" left the feline frozen solid.
The singer was devastated when the cat was killed by a car near his home in the English countryside, and decided to lay it to rest in a pond on his estate.
But the cold conditions made the ‘burial’ impossible, and left Doherty with a macabre garden installation.
He explains, "The cat got run over so I thought I’d give it a burial at sea - well, the pond. But it didn’t sink, it floated and then froze over. So there was this dead cat under the ice looking up at me. It was terrible."

BANDS CAMPAIGN FOR LONDON’S HOMELESS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:33 pm

British bands HOT CHIP, THE BLUETONES and DODGY are joining forces to help London’s homeless, by playing a series of secret gigs around the city.
All proceeds from the May 2009 concerts will go to homeless charity, Crisis.
Hot Chip star Al Doyle explains the cause: "Whether they would like to admit it or not, most people have an image in their head of a ‘homeless person’, the old-fashioned and unhelpful figure of the down-and-out, who in fact is entirely unrepresentative of the majority of homeless people in the UK. These are the hidden homeless, who for a variety of often very complex reasons have no regular accommodation. We hope our gig for Crisis will raise awareness of their plight and are very happy to help the cause."

ACTRESS BLAIR DIES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:30 pm

Award-winning actress BETSY BLAIR has died at the age of 85.
Blair died on Friday (13Mar09) in London after suffering from a long illness, according to her daughter Kerry Kelly Novick.
The redheaded actress climbed to international fame playing Clara Snyder in the 1955 film adaptation of television play Marty, which earned her a BAFTA award for Best Foreign Actress in 1956 and Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination.
At 17 years old, Blair married legendary actor Gene Kelly, Kerry’s father. Details of their 16-year marriage were resurrected nearly five decades after their split, for the actress’ 2003 memoir The Memory of All That.
In 1940, Blair made her Broadway debut dancing in the Cole Porter musical Panama Hattie. She later took the lead in Willliam Saroyan’s play The Beautiful People and understudied the role of Laura in the Broadway production of The Glass Menagerie.
Blair also appeared in a handful of American films including 1948 movies Another Part of the Forest and The Snake Pit, and Kind Lady, in 1951, before she was banned from work for her political affiliations and placed on the infamous Hollywood blacklist.
She then moved to Paris and finally settled in London when roles dried up in the U.S., starring in European films including Calle Mayor, in 1956, Il Grido, in 1957 and All Night Long, in 1962.
One year later (63), Blair married director Karel Reisz, who died in 2002.
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:30 pm

THE HILLS star AUDRINA PATRIDGE is moving on from the U.S. reality TV show - she’s landed her own spin-off.

GOODMAN ‘SCARED TO DEATH’ OF BROADWAY RETURN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:30 pm

Actor JOHN GOODMAN is "scared to death" of returning to the stage in Broadway play WAITING FOR GODOT - after years of living in laid back New Orleans, Louisiana.
Goodman will star opposite Nathan Lane and Bill Irwin as Pozzo in Samuel Beckett’s famous play next month (Apr09) - thirty years after making his Broadway debut in Loose Ends.
The 56-year-old actor admits he’s struggling to cope with his new rigorous regime after growing accustomed to a more slow-paced lifestyle.
He says, "Now that I’m here, the truth is I am scared to death. I’ve been learning my lines in places like (restaurant) P.J. Clarke’s. They got the best hamburgers in the world. Opening on Broadway is like jumping into a mix master. But I’m getting my sea legs back. Even started shopping at the nearby supermarket. I mean, schlepping big bags of groceries to store up in your cave is like being in Afghanistan." The play kicks off a run at New York’s Studio 54 on 30 April (09).

RICHARDSON WARNED HER MARRIAGE TO NEESON WAS ‘CURSED’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:27 pm

Tragic actress NATASHA RICHARDSON was eerily warned her marriage to LIAM NEESON was cursed and their union would end "in disaster".
The British star was admitted to hospital in Montreal, Canada, following an accident while learning to ski.
Concern for her health grew when doctors at another Montreal hospital described her condition as critical. The star’s husband Liam Neeson made the decision to fly her to New York’s Lenox Hill Hospital so she could be nearer her family.
Relatives, including her actress mother Vanessa Redgrave and sister Joely Richardson, stayed for a two-day vigil at her side before she was removed from life support on Wednesday morning (18Mar09) and died hours later.
But in a grim twist, Richardson relayed in a 2003 interview how she had been warned that her life would be "cursed" following her bitter divorce from her first husband Robert Fox.
And the star claimed a person close to her had predicted her new marriage to Irish actor Neeson - who she married two years later in 1994 - would be doomed.
According to Britain’s The Sun newspaper, Richardson explained, "There was so much fuss over my divorce - I was told our marriage would be cursed.
"I thought, ‘Don’t let this be true’. I’ve thought about it since, too. I try to put it out of my mind.
"It was an opinion given straight to my face by someone I trusted. ‘You will never be happy’, he said. ‘Your marriage will end in disaster’."

STARS PAY TRIBUTE TO RICHARDSON

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:27 pm

Emotional tributes have poured in from Hollywood stars following NATASHA RICHARDSON’s tragic death on Wednesday (18Mar09).
Richardson, who was married to actor Liam Neeson, was taken to hospital after sustaining a head injury on the slopes of Mont Tremblant in Montreal, Canada on Monday (16Mar09).
She was later transferred to a New York hospital where she died on Wednesday morning (18Mar09) hours after she was removed from life support.
Now grief-stricken celebrities have rushed to offer condolences and honour the star.
Dame Judi Dench, who worked with Richardson on the 1987 TV series Ghosts, says, "She had an incredibly luminous quality, that you seldom see, and a great sense of humour. I thought she was a really great actress… It’s just so shocking, really shocking, and I hope that everybody leaves the family quietly to somehow pick up the pieces." Filmmaker Nick Moore, who directed Richardson in her final movie Wild Child, adds: "She was wonderfully generous and kind, a complete joy to be with. All the kids in the movie loved being around her. She pitched in and was great with them. She led by example." Actress Angela Lansbury recalled the star in her Broadway run of Cabaret, for which she won a Tony Award: "She was just outstanding. She has done so many wonderful roles in the theatre and in movies. A most accomplished and lovely actress, mother and wife." Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, who worked with Richardson on Blow Dry, added: "For all her talent and beauty, she was egoless." And filmmaker Ken Russell, who directed Richardson in her 1986 debut Gothic, says, "She was one of the few modern actresses who was as smart as she was pretty, and as gentle as she was fierce." "I loved her unashamedly, and wish her remarkable and wonderful mother, who must be suffering greatly at the moment, all courage and strength."

MAYER DISMISSES ANISTON BOOK REPORTS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:54 pm

JOHN MAYER is considering legal action against a U.S. magazine over reports he planned to cash in on his relationship with JENNIFER ANISTON by writing a book about their time together.
Star Magazine alleged in a recent issue that the singer had plans to publish his account of his on/off romance with Aniston since their split last week (ends06Mar09).
But the rocker is furious with the reports - and is contemplating taking the publication to court over the claims.
A representative for Mayer tells gossip blogger Perez Hilton, "Even for them, it’s a new low. They’ve dressed themselves up but they’re no better than the Enquirer. Despite their low standards it’s still not ok to make up stories and print them.
"Unfortunately, while we’re considering legal action, Star Magazine is already at work on next week’s cover story about some reality TV star’s secret marriage to Elvis."

MACDONALD HAPPY FOR PITT TO QUIT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:54 pm

Director KEVIN MACDONALD is glad BRAD PITT pulled out of upcoming movie STATE OF PLAY - because the Hollywood star is too good-looking to play the role.
Pitt was originally due to star in the big-screen thriller as a put-upon journalist - but the actor quit during pre-production, citing concerns with the script.
Russell Crowe was drafted in as a late replacement to star opposite Ben Affleck’s congressman - and Macdonald is adamant the actor’s rough features are more suited to the role.
He says, "In a way, I was lucky it didn’t work out with Brad. The relationship between the journalist and the politician was meant to be between somebody who feels inferior, who’s a bit of a schlump, who kind of can’t get a girlfriend, and somebody he’s looking up to and admires - his polished politician friend.
"That is not the dynamic of a Brad Pitt. He’s not looking up to anyone thinking ‘Oh, I wish I could have your girlfriend’."
