JENNIFER ANISTON’s family film MARLEY & ME shared the top spot in the international box office charts over the weekend (21/22Mar09) with GRAN TORINO.
Aniston’s dog comedy held on to the number one position for a second consecutive week, but was joined at the top by Clint Eastwood’s latest film - with each movie grabbing takings of $8.8 million (£6 million) from 38 markets.
French movie Coco took the third spot, earning an impressive $8.5 million (£5.8 million) from just one market - France.
Superhero film Watchmen, starring Billy Crudup and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, dropped to fourth spot, garnering $7 million (£4.8 million) from 58 markets outside the States.

Legendary folk singer JEAN REDPATH is to receive an honorary degree from the University of Glasgow - to pay tribute to her contribution to Scottish music and culture.
The 71-year-old - who has worked with stars such as Bob Dylan during a 50-year career - will receive a Doctor of Music degree at a graduation ceremony on 17 June (09).
The award is Redpath’s fourth from a Scottish university.
Glasgow University vice principal Graham Caie says, "Jean Redpath has made a huge contribution to the performance of Scottish folk song. The university is delighted to award her an honorary degree in recognition of her contribution to Scottish culture and broadcasting."

Pop sensation KATY PERRY is moving on after splitting from ex TRAVIS MCCOY - she is reportedly dating singer/songwriter JOSH GROBAN.
The I Kissed A Girl hitmaker split from the Gym Class Heroes frontman earlier this year (09) before being linked to Paris Hilton’s ex-Benji Madden.

IGLU & HARTLY star MICHAEL ANDERSON JARVIS has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a hotel security guard.
The rocker was reportedly half naked when he attacked a member of security at the Hilton hotel in Austin, Texas in the early hours of Thursday morning (19Mar09).
Jarvis - who was in town to perform at the annual South By Southwest music festival - had been attempting to play the bar piano with bandmate Samuel Martin and when confronted by security guards repeatedly punched one of them in the face, according to U.S. reports.
He has since been charged with assault on a public servant.

Legendary songwriter TED JARRETT has died. He was 83.
The musician suffered from liver failure. He passed away on Saturday evening (21Mar09) at a hospice in Nashville, Tennessee.
Jarrett was a prolific songwriter, writing hits for the Rolling Stones and Gene Allison.
He had number one songs on both the country and R&B charts, with tracks including You Can Make It If You Try and Love Love Love.
He is survived by his son, Tim.

Former THE WONDER YEARS star DANICA MCKELLAR has married her longtime boyfriend in a romantic California ceremony.
The ex-child star, who played Fred Savage’s sweetheart Winnie Cooper on the hit 1980s TV show, wed film and TV composer/visual effects artist Mike Verta on Sunday (22Mar09) at La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.
The pair tied the knot in front of 150 guests, including the bride’s sister Crystal McKellar - who starred as Becky Slater on The Wonder Years.
The couple first started dating in 2001.

Actor JOHN CLEESE has won a court battle to get his $1.8 million (£1.3 million)-a-year divorce pay-out to his ex-wife halved.
The Monty Python star had hit out at the original settlement last May (08) with third wife Alyce Faye Eichelberger, following their split after 16 years of marriage.
And a U.S. judge agrees with the star - cutting Cleese’s monthly payments to Eichelberger from $153,000 (£106,000) to $82,000 (£57,000).
A source tells British newspaper The Daily Mail, "The settlement has been cut back because it was unrealistic. The lawyers had been wrangling for some time. They are still fighting it out, but I think a final decision is expected in the next two weeks."

Actor CHARLIE SHEEN named his newborn fraternal twins BOB and MAX because the monikers were "easy to remember".
The Two and a Half Men star and his wife Brooke Mueller welcomed the boys into the world last week (14Mar09).
The twins are the fourth and fifth children for the 43-year-old. He has a 24-year-old daughter, Cassandra, from a previous relationship, and shares little girls Sam, four, and Lola, three, with ex-wife Denise Richards.
Sheen says, "They’re very short and simple, easy to spell and remember… Bob is the same frontward and backward. I’m a fan of short and simple names." Sheen and Mueller married in May last year (08).

SEAN PENN has brushed off rumours he demanded his role in new movie CROSSING OVER be cut because he objected to a controversial scene in the film.
Penn shot scenes playing an enforcement agent in the drama, starring Harrison Ford and Ashley Judd.
When the film debuted in the U.S. this month (Mar09) without the actor, rumours swirled he was outraged by a controversial scene - where an Iranian woman believed to have dishonoured her family is killed by her brother - and demanded his role be cut.
Penn has brushed off the claims, insisting his part was never confirmed to make the final edit.
His spokesperson tells the New York Post, "Sean’s portion of the film was somewhat experimental as it had a mystical quality that the rest of the film did not have. His not being in the final edit was a creative decision of which he was aware."

R&B star ROBIN THICKE is looking to branch out into acting, but fears his first role will be "a horror movie with PARIS HILTON".
The soul singer is the son of actor Alan Thicke and is married to sexy actress Paula Patton, so he feels it’s time to try out his acting.
He says, "It’s in the blood. I wasn’t very good at it when I was a kid because it didn’t come naturally to me." And Thicke insists having Patton as his wife is like "living with an acting coach".
But he insists, "I wouldn’t do anything just for the celebrity of it, but I would love to be involved with some great project… Now you’ll see me doing a horror movie with Paris Hilton."

NICOLAS CAGE’s new sci-fi thriller KNOWING has topped the competition at the U.S. box office, taking in $24.8 million (£17.2 million) in its opening weekend (20-22Mar09).
The actor’s role, as a widower whose young son has a cryptic premonition, helped the film topple over new star-studded comedy I Love You, Man, which came in second.
The film, starring Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, Rashida Jones, Sarah Burns and Jaime Pressly, debuted at $18 million (£12.5 million), while Julia Roberts’ spy thriller Duplicity opened in the third spot with $14 million (£9.7 million).
Dropping from number one to the fourth spot is Disney movie Race to Witch Mountain, starring former wrestler Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, taking in another $13 million (£9 million) in its second week.
Rounding out the top five is superhero film Watchmen, which fell from the second spot, earning another $6.7 million (£4.6 million) at the weekend. The film boasts a three-week total of $98 million (£68 million).

Swedish rockers PETER, BJORN AND JOHN have laughed off their disastrous concert at the South By Southwest music festival - insisting the blunder helped deflate their egos.
The trio upset fans when their show at the annual Austin, Texas music conference on Wednesday (18Mar09) was delayed.
The group finally took the stage but their set was marred by technical problems and faulty equipment, prompting long interruptions and boos from the crowd.
But lead singer Peter Moren has brushed off his hecklers.
He says, "It was an awful show. But it’s also good that stuff like that happens occasionally. Otherwise you become bigheaded."

Country singer LEANN RIMES has laughed off allegations her husband is gay after a woman claiming to be a family member ‘outed’ the backing dancer.
One of Dean Sheremet’s supposed cousins, calling herself Pebbles, called in to Michigan’s Mojo In The Morning radio show on Friday (20Mar09) to comment on reports suggesting Rimes has been cheating on her husband with married actor Eddie Cibrian.
The alleged relative revealed Sheremet’s family is more shocked that the couple’s marriage has lasted seven years than by allegations of infidelity - which have been denied by Rimes - insisting the dancer is gay.
Pebbles told the morning show, "The family literally used to take bets on what age he would come out, and then all of the sudden he got married!" But Rimes’ spokesperson has laughed off the claims, telling Usmagazine.com: "Although Dean and LeAnn never knew they had a cousin named Pebbles, they are glad to hear that she has come out of the woodwork. Dean and LeAnn are also interested in connecting with their other long lost family members: Fred, Wilma, Barney and Bamm-Bamm. So Pebbles, please let us know if you have spoken to them, too." Rimes and Sheremet, who married in February 2002, renewed their wedding vows last August (08).

ERYKAH BADU’s performance at the South By Southwest festival was delayed after police arrested an alleged stalker who barricaded the singer inside her Dallas, Texas home.
The soul star nearly missed her performance at the Austin music festival on Saturday (21Mar09) after calling police to report a woman who had visited her home multiple times had "several misc. (miscellaneous) items spread out in the grass".
Badu took to her Twitter.com page to update fans, writing: "Police just apprehended a stalker in front of my house. Stay tuned for details".
Authorities arrived, prompting the woman to take off on foot before she was "pepper sprayed and (hand) cuffed", according to Badu.
The singer travelled nearly 200 miles (321.87 kilometres) to her evening show, where she arrived in time to play two songs before promptly leaving.

Actress/model JENNY MCCARTHY has confessed she’s a fan of Botox injections, but insists the key is "just a little bit".
The star, who is dating funnyman Jim Carrey, has opened up about her cosmetic procedures in the new issue of society magazine Michigan Avenue, and admits her comments have shocked fans.
She says, "People were surprised I was so open about (it) but when people see everyone in Hollywood, they look up to them and I think everyone should be honest about what they’re doing." Internationally-acclaimed photojournalist GIANNI GIANSANTI, a longtime photographer of the late Pope John Paul II, has lost his battle with bone cancer. He was 52.
Giansanti, who captured still images of world leaders and fashion designers on his lens for nearly three decades, died on Wednesday (18Mar09) in Rome, Italy.
His career launched in 1978, when his photograph of the body of former Italian prime minister Aldo Moro - kidnapped, shot and left in the trunk of a car by members of a terrorist group - received international attention.
Giansanti’s most famous subjects also include Pope Benedict XVI, fashion designer Valentino and a variety of world leaders, such as former Soviet head of state, Mikhail S. Gorbachev.
He is survived by his wife, Anna, and two children.

American TV star ANDREW FIRESTONE is a first time dad after his wife gave birth to a baby boy on Saturday (21Mar09).
The former Bachelor star, 32, and actress/model Ivana Bozilovic, 31, welcomed little Adam Brooks into the world at 6:48am in Santa Barbara, California.
The baby - named after his grandfather, Santa Barbara County Supervisor Brooks Firestone - was born three weeks before he was scheduled to arrive, and weighed in at eight pounds (3.63 kilograms).
But Firestone insists Bozilovic and son are healthy, and he’s looking forward to bringing their new addition home.
He tells Usmagazine.com, "Ivana and my son are doing well. Everyone is healthy and happy. I am ecstatic about being a father." The couple wed last July (08) in Los Olivos, California.
