APPLEGATE USED HUMOUR TO COPE WITH CANCER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:27 pm

CHRISTINA APPLEGATE was laughing her way through her treatment for breast cancer - because it was "the only way to cope" with the disease.
The 37-year-old actress is cancer-free since having a double mastectomy - after doctors diagnosed her with an early form of illness last year (08).
And she has credited her mother, breast cancer survivor Nancy Priddy, and her own sharp sense of humour with helping her deal with the health scare.
She says, "I have a lot of energy and just kind of pushing past it, moving on. That’s just how I operate, I have to with everything in my life and all the things that have happened. It’s the only way I can kind of cope."

GANDOLFINI IMPRESSES CRITICS WITH RETURN TO BROADWAY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:27 pm

JAMES GANDOLFINI has won rave reviews for his return to Broadway in YASMINA REZA’s play GOD OF CARNAGE.
The multiple Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning actor stars alongside Jeff Daniels, Hope Davis and Marcia Gay Harden in the production, about two warring couples.
The star-studded cast is "a marvellously giving, balanced ensemble", according to a critic at The New York Times - in one of several reviews hailing the show’s official opening on Sunday (22Mar09) at Manhattan’s Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.
Gandolfini’s run in God Of Carnage marks his first return to the Broadway stage since a six-month stint in the 1992 production of On the Waterfront.
It is also his first major role since finding fame as fictional mob boss Tony Soprano in hit TV drama The Sopranos, which ended in 2007.
A critic from the New York Daily News adds: "(Gandolfini) is one of four first-class actors at the top of their game in the combustible comedy God of Carnage… When you first see his character, he’s all mild-mannered and sheepish smiles, not remotely thuggish." The New York show appears to be on the same successful path as the London production, which won critical acclaim for its star, Ralph Fiennes, and a Laurence Olivier award for best new comedy.
A theatre critic for the Associated Press adds, "It’s one of those swell, showy comic portraits that has Tony nomination (and probably the prize, too) written all over it."

MADONNA’S NANNY QUITS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:39 pm

The woman charged with looking after MADONNA’s adopted son DAVID has quit - amid rumours of tensions with her superstar employer.
The Australian child-care worker, known only as Angela, is believed to have been working for the pop singer in New York, taking care of three-year-old David, who was adopted from Malawi in 2006.
Angela is said to have handed in her resignation earlier this month (Mar09), but was instructed to leave immediately without completing her notice period, according to British newspaper the Mail on Sunday.
The news comes after the singer recently admitted she is considering adopting another child from the African country.
A source tells the publication, "Angela is distraught. Madonna told her the news two hours before she was due to go on her annual month-long leave. Angela was incredibly upset and very surprised. The rumour is that Madonna was furious that Angela was leaving and dismissed her before she had the chance to complete her full notice. No one knows how she will cope without a nanny. She depends on her staff very heavily." A spokesman for Madonna adds, "I do not comment on household issues but I can assure you that David and Madonna’s other two children are very well taken care of at all times." Madonna is also mother to 12-year-old Lourdes and Rocco, eight.

LOHAN EYES FULL-TIME MODELLING CAREER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:39 pm

LINDSAY LOHAN has hinted she could turn her back on acting for good - because she has more fun as a high-fashion model.
The Mean Girls star has struggled to carve out a successful Hollywood career since she shot to fame as a Disney child star, and hasn’t starred in a big screen project since 2007 flop I Know Who Killed Me.
More recently, Lohan has relied on special appearances and modelling shoots to remain in the limelight.
But the star isn’t too upset that the acting offers have dried up - admitting she’d love to pose for the camera full-time.
She tells Nylon magazine, "I love doing photo shoots. I mean, if I could just sign with IMG (modelling agency) and do ad campaigns and model more, I’d do that . . . because that’s fun for me. That’s not work." And it seems Lohan’s modelling ambitions could come to fruition - IMG boss Ivan Bart is keen to give the star a chance.
He tells New York gossip column PageSix, "She’s a beautiful girl and obviously knows a lot about fashion. Providing that she was contractually free, we would take a meeting."

RICHIE ‘TOO BORING’ FOR BIOPIC

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:36 pm

LIONEL RICHIE was left devastated when movie bosses scrapped a planned film about his life - as his story was deemed too boring for the big screen.
The Hello hitmaker admits he was delighted when Hollywood executives approached him with the idea of turning his life into a movie.
But when the filmmaking process began, producers discovered Richie’s route to fame was too ordinary to keep cinema audiences enthralled and plans for the picture were subsequently cancelled.
Richie says, "I’ve been approached in the past by Hollywood about a book or a movie about my life but you know it never happens. They said to me, ‘Let’s talk about your ghetto experiences,’ and I said, ‘Well, I lived on the college campus so I didn’t really have any.’ "So then they asked: ‘Ok, let’s talk about your father and mother breaking up…’ and I said: ‘That never happened, my mother, who was a school principle, and my father, who was a systems analyst, were fine…’ "So then they asked, ‘Let’s talk about the struggle within your group The Commodores.’ And I said, ‘Excuse me but I had (a) hit record in my senior year in college.’ Then the producer turned round to me and replied. ‘This is the worst story I’ve heard in my whole life. There is no tragedy.’ "

RUSSELL TURNED DOWN STALLONE’S EXPENDABLES OFFER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:36 pm

SYLVESTER STALLONE was stunned when he asked his TANGO & CASH co-star KURT RUSSELL to appear in his forthcoming movie THE EXPENDABLES - after the actor’s agent ordered him to make the request by formal letter.
The Rambo star has lined up a stellar cast of Hollywood hardmen for the action-thriller, including Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and rapper 50 Cent.
And Stallone was keen to get his pal Russell on-board - but was staggered by the less-than-friendly response.
He tells his forum StallonZone, "I know that many people on the site have asked for Kurt Russell. I asked for him too.
"Actually, I was taken aback when asked to put the request in a letter and send it to his agent. Subsequently, I was called back by the agent several days later after refusing to send a letter and he said Kurt Russell is not interested in ‘ensemble acting’ at this time. So, people, I came, I saw, I failed".

LOHAN’S MONEY TROUBLES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:36 pm

Actress LINDSAY LOHAN is suffering the effects of the global economic crisis - her financial problems have reportedly forced her to borrow money from her girlfriend SAMANTHA RONSON.
Lohan admitted her money troubles in a recent interview with Nylon magazine, telling the publication she is struggling to pay the mortgage on her Los Angeles home as she has not made a movie since 2007 box office flop I Know Who Killed Me.
And now the New York Daily News is reporting that Lohan’s cash crisis has deepened due to her excessive spending, leaving her borrowing from her DJ partner to support her extravagant lifestyle.
A source tells the publication, "Lindsay is spending like crazy! She’s living on credit right now. She has no cash. The problem is, the money being spent is mostly Sam’s because Lindsay doesn’t really have any of her own at the moment. Sam really thinks Lindsay needs to learn how to become a recessionista and manage her money better." While another insider adds, "Lindsay’s money situation has never been great, but it’s only gotten worse over the last month. For every dollar she makes, she spends double. Her personal appearance fees are literally the only thing keeping her afloat. Because of her explosive relationship with Sam, she’s unable to get the type of cash she’s used to. The negative press and constant appearance cancellations are hurting her pocketbook.”

ROCKERS LATE OF THE PIER SPARK SECURITY GUARD TUSSLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:33 pm

British rockers LATE OF THE PIER saw their performance at the South By Southwest music festival descend into chaos after security guards threw the group off-stage for overunning their time slot.
The musicians were thrilled when they were invited to play at the annual Austin, Texas event on Friday (20Mar08).
But things turned nasty when security personnel turned off the band’s microphones after they failed to keep to the allocated schedule, sparking a fight between the rockers and the disgruntled guards.
Frontman Sam Eastgate tells NME.com, "The bouncers went behind the sound desk and grabbed Steve, our sound guy, right off the desk.
"They turned off the power but I found a guitar microphone that was on, used that for a bit, then all of a sudden the bouncer had one of us by the throat.
"I saw red. It was quite a big jump, because he’s such a big bouncer. Someone grabbed me and threw me down the stairs."

KORN STAR’S AGONY OVER AFFAIRS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:33 pm

KORN bassist REGINALD ‘FIELDY’ ARVIZU has opened up about his troubled first marriage - insisting his numerous affairs destroyed the relationship and drove his ex-wife to violence.
The star has been married three times and is now happily wed to Dena Beber, mother of his young son Israel.
But Arvizu admits his first marriage, to a woman named only as Sidney, was extremely unhappy - and blames his adultery for infuriating his former spouse and driving her to jealous rages.
He notes one particular incident in his upcoming memoir, Got the Life, which made him realise that his first marriage wouldn’t last.
He writes, "She ran into the kitchen, grabbed a butcher knife, and came toward me like a crazed animal, wildly swinging at me. She cut open my shirt and made four shallow gashes in my chest.
"I didn’t know you had to have morals to be married. I wanted the cake, the icing, the lit candles, everything… (but) whenever you sit down to eat the whole cake, you always pay the price." The pair divorced shortly after the incident and the star went on to marry his second wife Shela Arvizu, with whom he has two daughters. Arvizu married Beber in 2006.

D12 LAWSUIT DROPPED

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:30 pm

A Michigan appeals court has dismissed a lawsuit against rap group D12 - after the band’s former manager accused them of cheating him out of "millions of dollars".
Kenyatta Hudson, 36, from Detroit, Michigan claims he signed a contract to manage bandmember Ondre ‘Swift’ Moore from 1999 to 2003, and agreed a deal to manage D12 for approximately six months.
He accused the Purple Hills hitmakers of firing him when they signed with frontman Eminem’s own record label in 1999 and pursued them over lost earnings.
A hearing at Michigan’s Court of Appeals on Friday (20Mar09) upheld a previous court ruling stating that Hudson can’t enforce his contract as Moore’s manager because he was never licensed as a personnel agent as required under Michigan law.
The three-judge panel also dismissed Hudson’s claims of unjust enrichment against the group.
Hudson has spoken out about the ruling, insisting he will continue to pursue the case and write a book about his experiences.
He tells SOHH.com, "I think the courts are wrong in what they are saying. I haven’t spoken with my lawyer yet, but this is going to have to go to higher ground because there’s just no way for them to have found the way they did. I had a contract with D-12 and that is not being honoured. In America, we are supposed to honour contracts. I’m considering writing a book about my experience in all of this."

VATICAN TO URGE ANGELS & DEMONS BOYCOTT?

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:30 pm

Officials at the Vatican are allegedly planning to authorise a boycott of upcoming movie ANGELS & DEMONS.
The picture, which stars Tom Hanks, is the prequel to 2006’s The Da Vinci Code, based on the bestselling novel by Dan Brown, and is due for release this summer (09).
Church officials previously called for a boycott of Hanks’ first outing in the thriller series - and now it looks as if the second movie in the franchise will also cause controversy because of its religious overtones, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The Vatican’s officials newspaper, Avvenire, ran a story on Friday (20Mar09), stating that Catholic Church "cannot approve" of the movie, with another Italian publication La Stampa, warning that officials will call for a boycott ahead of the film’s release in May (09).
The story is set in Rome, but filming was held up after Vatican officials refused the crew permission to shoot in the religious site and at several other important locations in the city.
Angels & Demons is set to open worldwide on 15 May (09).

LABEL REJECTS WINEHOUSE SONGS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:51 am

Singer AMY WINEHOUSE has reportedly been ordered to re-record her new album after music bosses were left unimpressed by her latest offering.
The Rehab hitmaker recorded a number of demo tracks for her highly anticipated third album during a three-month hiatus on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia earlier this year (09).
But her efforts haven’t hit the mark with bosses at the star’s label Island Records, according to U.K. newspaper the Daily Mirror.
A source tells the publication, "Amy was very productive during her stay in St Lucia. She wrote a hell of a lot of songs, but the majority of them just aren’t hitting the mark.
“She seems to have ditched her trademark vintage soul sound and is now heavily influenced by reggae. Her bosses don’t think it’s a wise move to change her style so sharply and have told her that.”

DOHERTY: ‘I STILL HAVE FEELINGS FOR KATE’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:51 am

Rocker PETE DOHERTY is still reeling from his split with supermodel KATE MOSS - admitting he’s thought about head-butting her new boyfriend JAMIE HINCE as a result of his jealousy.
The Babyshambles singer was previously engaged to the model after meeting at her birthday in 2005, but the pair split two years later.
And Doherty has yet to come to terms with the break-up - confessing he would struggle to avoid confronting Moss’ new lover if their paths ever crossed.
He tells Q magazine, "I wanted to see Lily Allen play the other week. But her label EMI got in touch and said, ‘We don’t want you there because Kate Moss will be there and it will take attention away from Lily. Can you not go?’ I was so insulted. I don’t know. I think I would have been courteous enough.
“Then I’d probably have head-butted her new boyfriend, put her over my shoulder and run off. Really and truly, I miss her. And I would like to speak to her. It’s so confusing for me still."

BARTON IN NO RUSH TO WED

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:48 am

MISCHA BARTON is in no rush to walk down the aisle - insisting getting married puts too much pressure on a relationship.
The former O.C. star recently split from The Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard following a brief romance.
And Barton feels no urge to snare a husband just yet - as she is adamant that getting wed often causes romances to break down.
She says, "I just think people try harder until they’re married. You see a lot of relationships fall apart because it’s the last step. There’s nothing left and a lot of dudes freak out and the women become bitchier. I see it to be bad for relationships.
"Whoever is going to be the father of my children, I’ll probably inevitably marry. But that’s not on the cards anytime soon."
