A group of previously unknown letters written by British royal PRINCE CHARLES have netted more than $29,000 (£20,000) on auction website eBay.
The six handwritten notes sold on Friday (20Mar09) were penned during the 1970s and 1980s - before the prince married his late ex-wife Princess Diana.
They are all said to have been written to receptionist Janet Jenkins, who Charles met while she worked at the British consulate in Montreal, Canada.
One letter, penned just a year before Charles’ marriage to the then Lady Diana Spencer, tells of the media pressure he felt to tie the knot.
It reads, "I can see that I will just have to get married as soon as possible and then all these people might relax a little. Don’t worry - whatever happens I will make sure you are given early warning." Jenkins put the letters on sale when her firm, Everything Royal, went bust. An anonymous bidder bagged the notes for their reserve price.

Legendary actor SIR MICHAEL CAINE has blasted Britain’s drug culture, blaming addicts for the U.K.’s street crime epidemic.
The Get Carter star has been on location in the grittier suburbs of London, filming latest project Harry Brown - in which he plays a vigilante ex-Marine tired of petty gangsters terrorising his neighbourhood.
And after meeting dozens of disaffected locals on set, Caine - who grew up on a tough London estate - believes drugs are the difference between the violence he experienced as a youth and today.
He tells British tabloid The Sun, "What you have now which you didn’t have when I was young is drugs. You had alcoholism, people getting p**sed, but you never had the drugs and that is a massive problem.
"We were shooting in Hackney (east London) and someone local came up to me and said, ‘Welcome to Crackney!’ It was a gentler time when I was young. There were vicious gangsters but they were professional gangsters. They chose who they hit and what they robbed.
"But the drug addicts today have to kill anybody - it doesn’t matter who - to get the money, so you get this incredible random violence. When I was young you fought the guy in the next street. But it wasn’t so vicious then. We fought with our fists. Now they fight with knives and guns.
"I have now seen it at close hand, very close hand. I was quite aware of it and I come from there, but even I was shocked to find out how bad it is."

British actresses SIENNA MILLER and KEIRA KNIGHTLEY shunned the Hollywood lifestyle while shooting a movie together - they preferred crossword puzzles to crazy nights out.
The duo lived together on location in Wales while filming Dylan Thomas biopic The Edge Of Love in 2007. And Miller insists her pal’s level head meant evenings indoors playing cards rather than partying.
She tells Britain’s Daily Express newspaper, "(Knightley’s) ridiculously mature for her age. I am 12 compared with her.
"We lived in a house in Wales together. We’d play cards, do crosswords, that kind of thing."

Country star LEANN RIMES’ dancer husband has been ‘outed’ as gay by people insisting they’re family members.
One of Dean Sheremet’s cousins, calling herself Pebbles, called in to Michigan’s Mojo In The Morning radio show on Friday (20Mar09) to comment on reports suggesting Rimes has been cheating on her husband with married actor Eddie Cibrian.
And the relative revealed the family is far from shocked by leaked security video footage, which appears to show Rimes and Cibrian getting intimate and kissing at a restaurant on a secret date - they’re surprised the marriage has lasted so long.
Pebbles told the morning show, "There were so many situations that happened when we were teenagers… He’s gay. He’s been gay since he was probably five.
"The family literally used to take bets on what age he would come out, and then all of the sudden he got married!" Both Rimes and Cibrian’s publicists have dismissed the reports of infidelity, and, in his only comment about the media fuss, Sheremet, who renewed his wedding vows with Rimes last August (08), posted, "I love my wife!!!" on Twitter.com.

A judge in the PHIL SPECTOR murder retrial has ruled jurors can consider a manslaughter conviction against the star.
The music mogul is accused of shooting actress Lana Clarkson in the foyer of his Alhambra, California mansion in 2003. His defence team maintains Clarkson shot herself.
Both prosecuting and defence attorneys have now rested their cases and closing arguments are scheduled to begin on Monday (23Mar09).
But at a hearing on Friday (20Mar09), Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Larry Fidler said he was "mandated under the law" to give the 12 jurors the option to consider a verdict of involuntary manslaughter instead of second-degree murder.
However, Spector’s attorney, Doron Weinberg, has called the ruling "absolutely erroneous", adding, "All it does is confuse the jury." The trial continues.

ART GARFUNKEL has been criticised for allegedly insulting a handicapped fan at a concert.
The singer was reading a poem at a show in New York earlier this month (12Mar09) when he stopped midway through and reportedly berated a disabled person at the front of the audience.
According to an online blog, Garfunkel stopped reading his poem at least twice and then said: “I try to be kind to the handicapped, but I’m trying to put on a show here.” A fan in a wheelchair was then apparently wheeled out.
And supporters of the singer have lambasted his behaviour, with one person writing online, “He is an arrogant (bleep). I am sorry I did not walk out of the concert.” The manager of the Turning Stone Resort and Casino has confirmed an incident involving Garfunkel took place at the show.

SEX AND THE CITY actress CYNTHIA NIXON overlooked the shocking content of the series when she first read the TV script - because she was desperate to remain in New York.
Nixon reluctantly considered moving to Los Angeles before the sexually charged story about four single women living in her native New York landed on her lap.
And she was determined to get the attention of casting directors so she wouldn’t need to leave the Big Apple behind.
She says, "It wasn’t so much that it was shocking and risque it was more like, ‘Wow, there’s a show about women that shoots in New York.’ Everything’s shot in California. I was a New Yorker, and I didn’t want to relocate. So certainly how different it was grabbed my attention, but the New York part of it grabbed my attention first."

The uncle of actress NATASHA RICHARDSON paid a moving tribute to his late niece, dedicating his theatre performance on Friday (20Mar09) night to the star.
Corin Redgrave, brother of Richardson’s mother, Vanessa Redgrave, returned to the London stage for his role in Trumbo following the Maid In Manhattan star’s death on Wednesday (18Mar09).
He revealed his devastation at the loss of a treasured family member, saying: "She was the most adorable niece, most adorable person. Generous, kind, funny with a brilliant talent.
"I will miss her terribly and my thoughts at this time are with Vanessa, Liam and the children." His tribute came on the same night as theatres across the British capital dimmed their lights to honour the star.
Venues in the West End held a two minute switch-off just before curtain-up time "as a mark of respect for both Natasha Richardson and her immediate family, and for the Redgrave family as a whole who have made such a unique contribution to British theatre".
Nica Burns, president of the Society of London Theatre, added that it was "a gesture of condolence at this sad time".
Richardson lost her fight for life after suffering a traumatic brain injury while learning to ski in Montreal, Canada earlier this week (begs16Mar09).
And it has emerged that the star turned down the offer of a protective helmet during the fateful lesson.
A staff member at Mont Tremblant tells British newspaper The Sun, “We are heartbroken that we didn’t do more to persuade her to wear one. A helmet would have cost her just ten dollars (Canadian).
“Every skier is encouraged to wear a helmet, especially beginners like Natasha. But it is not legally enforced and they can always refuse.
"I remember Natasha coming into the shop before her lesson. She seemed cheerful, bright and extremely beautiful. She said she wasn’t a good skier and was a little nervous.” Richardson will be buried in a private family ceremony near her Millbrook Dutchess County home in New York on Sunday (22Mar09).
The actress’ family has requested fans donate to the amfAR foundation for AIDS research, which Richardson was a patron of, instead of sending flowers.

ANGELINA JOLIE’s first movie role in a forgotten 1982 comedy is set for release - 17 years after it was made.
Jolie was just four when she appeared alongside her actor father Jon Voight in cult Shampoo and Being There director Hal Ashby’s Lookin To Get Out, but her part was cut and the film only had a limited release.
Ashby re-cut the film before his death in 1988 and his family and Voight, who starred in the director’s Coming Home, have worked tirelessly to get the new film a release.
Voight, who also co-wrote the film, says, “We had all sorts of drama in the making of it and in the final stages, Hal was not able to finish the film, so there was some damage done to the film and it came out in a crippled form. Unfortunately, nobody saw the film in a proper state.” The actor had no idea Ashby had re-cut the film - and handed the finished product to film archivists at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Voight only learned of the existence of the director’s cut when he was approached by Ashby’s biographer Nick Dawson two years ago (07).
Dawson introduced the actor to Lee Ashby McManus - the daughter Ashby never met - and she revealed Lookin’ To Get Out was her favourite film, because she felt sure Jolie’s role at the end of the movie was based on her.
Voight tells
BlogTalkRadio.com, “She said, ‘I think the little girl at the end, who was played by Angelina Jolie… was me.’ I thought about it and I said, ‘It is very possible it was you.’ I remember discussions we had and it was supposed to be a little boy, and Hal wanted a little girl.” The Oscar winner is thrilled the film will eventually be seen as his director friend intended: “It’s a big deal to me… I like this film very, very much.” The director’s cut of Lookin’ To Get Out, which also features Ann Margret and Rocky star Burt Young, will debut at the Sarasota Film Festival in Florida next month (Apr09), ahead of the movie’s DVD release on 20 June (09).

R&B singer R. KELLY has been formerly requested to detail the full extent of his involvement in an alleged investment scam by South African court officials.
The Bump N’ Grind hitmaker has been linked to Durban woman Busisiwe Priscilla Zakwe, who is accused of conning thousands of dollars from investors by convincing them to back proposals to bring an R. Kelly tour to the country.
Zakwe claims she deposited 10.5 million South African rands ($1 million/£694,400) into Kelly’s bank account, but the concert plans never came into fruition and the star never set foot in the country.
The defendant, who was arrested in 2005, appeared in Durban Regional Court on Wednesday (18Mar09), when a judge postponed the trial until 6 May (09) to allow state prosecutors to add more charges to the case.
Prosecutor Blackie Swart hopes to establish what involvement, if any, Kelly had in the case, by requesting an explanation from the singer himself.
Swart says, "I sent an email and also faxed a letter to Kelly’s agent last week. We have not received any response from them yet.
"We will contact them if they do not respond because we want to deal with this matter urgently."
