ROBERTS TO PLAY ‘COUGAR’ QUEEN GILBERT IN UPLIFTING NEW MOVIE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:27 pm

JULIA ROBERTS is chopping off her trademark long locks to play a real-life ‘cougar’ on the prowl for love.
The Oscar winner has bought the rights to Liz Gilbert’s book Eat, Prey, Love: One Woman’s Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia and plans to play the author in a movie adaptation.
The writer spent a year looking for love on a trek around the world, following a messy divorce and a failed romance, and chronicled her exploits.
Gilbert tasted the cultural delights in Italy, stayed in an ashram in India and completed her trip in Bali.
The book has become a must-read for middle-aged women keen to embark on more rewarding lives - and Roberts can’t wait to get started, even if her friends are begging her to rethink the haircut.
She tells WENN, "I will be the lead character Liz Gilbert. I’ll cut my hair, even though everyone says that it’s the kiss of death for me, apparently."

BROWN/RIHANNA DUET CONFIRMED BY PRODUCER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:24 pm

CHRIS BROWN’s producer pal POLOW DA DON has confirmed the R&B star recorded a new duet with girlfriend RIHANNA, just days after he was charged with assaulting her.
A spokesperson for Don told MTV News the couple completed the track earlier this week (begs09Mar09), confirming reports that suggested the troubled pair had reconciled by making music together.
Brown, who was arraigned on 5 March (09), faces two felony charges of assault and making criminal threats after a fight with Rihanna at a pre-Grammy party in Los Angeles on 8 February (09). The incident reportedly left Rihanna in need of medical treatment.
The pair reunited just two weeks later after rap mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs gave the pair the keys to his Miami, Florida home, so they could work out their differences.
A source tells Us Weekly magazine the song was written by Brown for Rihanna before the fight, adding, "It wasn’t initially slated for Chris to be on the song.
"The funny thing is, the song expresses the emotions that both Chris and Rihanna are feeling at this moment - facing challenges and overcoming the ups and downs of a relationship." The unnamed tune will be the stars’ second official collaboration together - Rihanna appeared on Brown’s 2008 track Electric Guitar, while Brown leaked an unofficial remix of his girlfriend’s smash hit Umbrella in 2007.

GALLAGHER AND MARTIN’S ENVIRONMENTAL BUST UP

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:24 pm

Rock star pals NOEL GALLAGHER and CHRIS MARTIN are feuding over the OASIS star’s refusal to be kind to the environment.
The pair fell out during a recent restaurant outing, after eco-conscious Martin quizzed Gallagher on his green credentials - and the guitarist confessed he didn’t care about saving the Earth.
Gallagher tells TalkSport magazine, "He said: ‘Why do you think it’s cool not to care?’ and I said, ‘Well, I don’t think it’s cool, I don’t think I’m being cool.’ "I actually couldn’t give a f**k about what’s going on outside my family: me, my missus, my two kids and my mam, and her parents… that’s it, for me.
"Other than that, it’s not my problem, but that’s not to say you shouldn’t care about it! "Each to their own and I’m glad there’s people like that. But I just like to look after my own."

DOHERTY HEADING BACK TO 90210 FOR FINALE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:24 pm

SHANNEN DOHERTY has confirmed she’s heading back to TV drama 90210 for a fiery finale with TORI SPELLING and JENNIE GARTH.
All three actresses were part of the original Beverly Hills, 90210 series, but only Garth has been a regular throughout the new spin-off, playing a high school counsellor.
Spelling recently signed on to recreate her Donna Martin character after initially pulling out of the project due to reported salary issues, and Doherty was only contracted to appear in four episodes as reformed bad girl Brenda Walsh.
She says, "I’m back for the finale, so you can probably expect a lot of drama." Eonline.com suggests Walsh’s character could be returning to adopt teen mum Adrianna’s (Jessica Lowndes) baby. (KL/WNWCEY&WN/MT) WENN - SIXTH - INTERNATIONAL MUSIC NEWS - 12 MAR 2009

PETA BOSSES EYE CLOONEY-FLAVOURED FOOD

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:21 pm

Bosses at animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are sweating over a new idea to turn GEORGE CLOONEY’s perspiration into a tofu flavour.
PETA president Ingrid E. Newkirk has written to the movie star asking him for his permission to market CloFu.
The wacky idea came about after Newkirk was offered a vial of handsome George’s sweat - apparently taken from a gym towel he used during a recent trip to Washington, D.C.
Unsure what to do with the sample, Newkirk took it to PETA’s boffins, who assured her it could be scrumptious.
In her letter to Clooney, the president writes, "The technology actually exists to take your perspiration and make it into George Clooney-flavored tofu. We could do that and give the tofu away.
"Of course, your fans would swoon at the idea of eating CloFu, but what interests us most is that we would attract many people who don’t try tofu because they worry that it would be bland or that they wouldn’t know how to cook it. CloFu will help people be healthier and more environmentally friendly and will spare animals from being killed for the table." And taste expert Dr. Harry Lawless of Cornell University insists the idea is not as far-fetched as it sounds: "It is no different than making artificial chicken flavour for instant gravy." PETA spokeswoman Amanda Schinke says, "We believe CloFu would be delicious on its own or served over rice with a light soy sauce and sauteed collards, in a casserole with melted vegan cheese and olives, or perhaps pressed with vegan pesto in a panini." But Clooney’s initial response isn’t all that encouraging. In a statement through his representative, the movie star says, "As a mammal, I’m offended."

NINE INCH NAILS frontman TRENT REZNOR is terrified of his band’s own fans - and often flees gigs in fear for his safety.
The rocker appreciates the support of the group’s devotees, but admits he hates running into them when he’s out in public.
After a recent scary encounter following a concert in London, Reznor reveals, "I left the Brixton Academy to go back to the hotel and I only had two steps between the venue and the car that was going to take me there. And it was like Dawn Of The Dead! People were pushed up against the windows of the car. All the fans looked like zombies as well!â€

LOPEZ & FONDA CAUGHT UP IN MONSTER-IN-LAW LAWSUIT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:51 pm

JENNIFER LOPEZ and JANE FONDA have found themselves entangled in a lawsuit over their 2005 film MONSTER-IN-LAW amid allegations of copyright infringement.
Sheri Gilbert of North Carolina claims the film was similar to a script she wrote in 1998 about her struggles with her mother-in-law - and she’s accused producers of the Hollywood hit of stealing her work.
According to the lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Raleigh, Gilbert and her husband Willie are seeking a share of the near $155 million (£112.9 million) the comedy made worldwide.
An attorney representing movie studio Warner Bros. and 33 other defendants, including Lopez and Fonda, has dismissed claims the similarities are more than just a coincidence, and is requesting that the lawsuit be dismissed, reports The News & Observer of Raleigh, North Carolina.

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:48 pm

CHRIS BROWN has been granted a special court hearing later this month (Mar09) to discuss his girlfriend RIHANNA’s account of their fight.
Brown, 19, was hit with two felony charges after an argument with Rihanna allegedly turned violent on the night of 8 February (09).
The singer, 21, was reportedly left with cuts and bruises and needed medical attention for her injuries.
The couple reunited at Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Miami, Florida mansion just weeks later (28Feb-01Mar09), sparking reports Rihanna had ceased to cooperate with investigators and would not testify against Brown.
And now Brown’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, has arranged a meeting in the chambers of Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg to address the Umbrella star’s testimony, according to TMZ.com.
Brown is not scheduled to be present at the hearing, which is set for 23 March (09).

CAINE SLAMS ‘ROTTEN’ LONDON ESTATES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:48 pm

MICHAEL CAINE has launched a savage attack on education and planning bosses in the U.K. for turning working class housing estates into no-go areas.
The veteran British actor insists officials are to blame for the country’s spiralling crime epidemic because many underprivileged children were "left to rot" and "grew into animals".
And he is adamant the streets of London were safer in the 1950s and ’60s - because criminals were "honest gangsters" who "didn’t assault small boys or old ladies".
The Get Carter star recently filmed upcoming movie Harry Brown on the Heygate housing estate in south London, and he was shocked at how working class communities have crumbled.
He tells London’s Evening Standard, "The film is about sink estates and the violence on them. This is a dark portrait but unfortunately it’s very true and we’re all responsible for it. We left the children to rot. We left these children and they grew into animals." And Caine also realised that his own impoverished upbringing was luxury compared to some parts of modern London.
He adds: "I come from this. I’m on these estates with these guys and they’re talking to me like I’m one of them and I think, ‘There but for the grace of God go I.’ "The families have let the children down, the educators have let the children down. We’ve put them in rotten places like the Heygate estate… which fortunately is being pulled down. It should never have been built."

BARRYMORE MISSES OUT ON TWILIGHT JOB

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:48 pm

DREW BARRYMORE has missed out on the chance to make the third TWILIGHT movie - Spanish filmmaker JUAN ANTONIO BAYONA has been signed on to direct the bloodsucking teen thriller.
Earlier this week (09Mar09), Barrymore revealed she was on a shortlist to take over the franchise after this year’s (09) sequel New Moon, having impressed movie bosses with her directorial debut Whip It!.
She said, "I’m one of the directors that is being talked about, which is great, because I’m a director now." But Bayona - whose previous credits include The Orphanage - has been chosen instead, reports UsMagazine.com.
Catherine Hardwicke directed the hugely successful first movie and Chris Weitz is onboard to helm this year’s sequel. The third movie is expected to hit movie theatres in 2010.

DAMON: ‘OSCARS VOTERS AREN’T ALWAYS RIGHT’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:45 pm

MATT DAMON insists the Oscars are no indication of whether films are good or not - even though he’s a past winner.
The Bourne Supremacy star picked up a Best Screenplay Oscar in 1998 for Good Will Hunting, a film which also earned him a Best Actor nomination - but he’s sceptical about the way the Academy picks its winners.
He tells Parade.com, "I think that the best way to judge movies is, like, 10 years after they’re released. I think they should actually do the awards that way.
"I think they should have done the Academy Awards this year for movies from 1998. I think it’s better to look at a movie and then step back and look at it again. I don’t think that the awards necessarily get it right. I think they get it wrong more often than they get it right." It’s not the first time the actor has questioned the validity of the Oscars - he campaigned for director Martin Scorsese to win his first Academy Award three years ago (06), insisting the prizegiving would be a "farce" if the moviemaker was overlooked for The Departed.
He said, "Marty’s such a great, great director. He really wants it (Oscar) and he hasn’t made that a secret. He’s been upfront about saying it would really mean a lot to him.
"He never felt that Hollywood had validated his work because his work is centred around the east coast and New York and that somehow threatened the establishment or something. But it demeans the Oscars more than it demeans Marty that he doesn’t have one, to be honest with you. Once he receives his (Oscar), then everyone who has one, their award is validated." Scorsese won his first Best Director Oscar for The Departed. It was the sixth time he had been nominated for the award.

MAYER DUMPS ANISTON?

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:45 pm

Rocker JOHN MAYER’s on-off relationship with JENNIFER ANISTON is off again, according to reports.
Mayer ended the romance last week (ends06Mar09) after the former Friends actress returned from a promotional jaunt in Europe to support her latest movie Marley & Me.
A source tells E! Online’s Marc Malkin, "He broke up with her when she got back from her European tour." The news comes just weeks after the couple gave its first joint red carpet interview at the Oscars, which Mayer attended as Aniston’s date.
Reports as recently as this week (11Mar09) even suggested Mayer was preparing to propose to the actress after allegedly shopping for an engagement ring.
But Aniston - who divorced husband Brad Pitt in 2005 - recently hinted her romance with Mayer would be shortlived, after admitting she doesn’t believe relationships are meant to last.
She said, "Who ever said that every relationship has to last forever? That’s hoping too much. I think every relationship is a world unto itself." And when asked about finding the perfect partner, she replied, "I don’t have one and I don’t think it exists." The stars were first rumoured to be dating in early 2008 but the couple parted ways at the end of last summer (Aug08). They rekindled their romance in October (08).
Mayer’s spokesperson has declined to address the singer’s private life, while Aniston’s representative has yet to respond to requests for comment on the reports.

STATIC MAJOR’S FAMILY WANT PRIVACY LAW EXCEPTION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:45 pm

The family of late hip-hop producer STATIC MAJOR has requested a Kentucky judge lift a ban on hospital patient privacy to help solve the mystery surrounding the star’s tragic death.
The beatmaker, the man behind Lil Wayne’s smash hit Lollipop, checked himself into the Baptist Hospital East in his hometown of Louisville in February 2008 after complaining of influenza-like symptoms and shortness of breath. He died unexpectedly hours later, aged 33; his cause of death was unknown at the time.
The producer, real name Stephen Garrett, allegedly underwent plasmapheresis, a procedure to remove toxins from the blood using a catheter, after doctors recommended the operation.
But after the surgery, he experienced pain in his internal organs and passed out when medics removed the catheter. He failed to regain consciousness and died.
His family filed a medical negligence lawsuit against hospital executives, naming Dr. Dean J. Wickel, the physician who performed the surgery, in the action.
A nurse who removed the star’s catheter gave her deposition last month (Feb09), in which she admitted the tube had been inserted in the wrong place, a blunder that can lead to excessive bleeding or lung puncture.
And now the Garretts’ lawyer, Larry Franklin, has urged the judge presiding over the case to reveal the identity of Major’s room mate in the hospital. Franklin claims the fellow patient may have heard the star’s final conversations with hospital staff and could have witnessed his final moments. The Baptist Hospital’s legal team have cited a confidentiality law, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), for refusing to disclose the patient’s name.
The Garretts are seeking compensation and punitive damages for pain and suffering, in addition to legal costs.
