The FRIDAY THE 13TH remake has broken box office records for horror movies in America with a whopping $42.2 million (£28.1 million) opening weekend take.
The slasher film debuted at number one, toppling romantic comedy He’s Just Not That Into You, which fell to two. Liam Neeson thriller Taken came in third.
Isla Fisher’s Disney film Confession of a Shopaholic debuted at four with a healthy $15.4 million (£10.2 million) and animated movie Coraline rounded out the new top five in America, giving Dakota Fanning two films in the top 10 - her Push is at 10 in its second week on release.

Stuntman JOHNNY KNOXVILLE has poured praise on JACKASS pal STEVE-O for sobering up after he staged an intervention to force the oddball star into rehab.
Knoxville reveals he hired six burly guys to help him and friends convince Steve-O to seek counselling for his alcohol problems, and managed to get the wreckless star into celebrity counsellor Dr. Drew Pinsky’s clinic in Los Angeles for help.
The Dukes of Hazzard star says, "You know if I’m coming to get you to tell you you have a drinking problem, you have a problem… He was at rock bottom." And Knoxville admits he was prepared for the intervention to get violent: "I said, ‘If he doesn’t want to go (to rehab), if he tries to run, knock him out." Steve-O is now 11 months sober and has just been named among the celebrity contestants of the upcoming season of U.S. show Dancing With The Stars.
Knoxville says, "He’s doing great and he’s gonna kick butt on Dancing With The Stars. He’s super co-ordinated; he was a trained circus clown… I’m so proud of him."

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON and cult movie THE DARK KNIGHT were the big winners at the Art Directors Guild Awards on Saturday (14Feb09).
Button claimed the Excellence in Production Design for a Period Film, The Dark Knight picked up the Fantasy Film prize and Slumdog Millionaire was named the Best Contemporary Film at the black-tie ceremony held at the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.
Honorary awards were presented to Production Designer Paul Sylbert for Lifetime Achievement, and to iconic filmmaker George Lucas for Outstanding Contribution to Cinematic Imagery.
And five production designers were inducted into the ADG Hall of Fame - Ted Haworth, Joseph McMillan Johnson, Romain Johnston, John Meehan and Harold Michelson.
Meanwhile, Mad Men, Little Britain U.S.A., John Adams and Weeds picked up awards for design excellence in television.
The 80th Annual Academy Awards telecast was named the Best Awards Show, Variety, Music, or Non-Fiction Program.

The JONAS BROTHERS have been ‘outed’ as a hair metal band from the early 1980s in a skit on U.S. comedy show SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE.
The trio attempted to play down allegations they were actually little-known rockers Property of The Queen as SNL comic Andy Samberg played outrageous lost videos of their past hits Africa, Our Secret and Struck By Lightning, but singer/guitarist Nick Jonas broke down after watching a final promo, Ask The Wizard.
The videos featured the band with long hair and bandanas, and Kevin Jonas sported a moustache.
Nick asked Samberg, "How much money do you want?" but the comedian insisted he just wanted to know the brothers’ secret for staying young. They simply pointed at the wizard in their Ask The Wizard video.

Oscar producers LAURENCE MARK and BILL CONDON are going to remarkable lengths to persuade new mum M.I.A. to be part of the Oscars telecast next weekend (22Feb09) - even offering her the chance to perform from bed.
The rapper/singer gave birth to a baby boy on Wednesday (11Feb09), after performing at the Grammy Awards on her due date (08Feb09).
And Mark hopes the star’s fighting spirit will push her to sing Oscar-nominated tune O, Saya at the Academy Awards.
He says, "She’s eager to performâ�¦We’ve said things like, ‘We’re willing to have her enter on a large bed.’ We’ll make it as easy for her as we can."

RAINBOW star RITCHIE BLACKMORE’s son JURGEN took his father’s place as band members performed as OVER THE RAINBOW for the first time in Belarus on St. Valentine’s Day (14Feb09).
Former Rainbow musicians Joe Lynn Turner, Tony Carey, Bobby Rondinelli and Greg Smith joined Blackmore’s boy for the sold out Palace of Sport show.
According to rock news website Blabbermouth.net, the band performed a string of Rainbow classics and finished the show with rousing versions of I Surrender, All Night Long and Since You Been Gone.
Frontman Turner recently told AntiMusic.com how the reunion came about: "I was sitting in Russia after a tour with a few promoters and what not and they were like, ‘It would be great to have a Rainbow reunion… Do you think that’ll ever happen?’ I went, ‘Well, you know, you’re not going to get Ritchie… He’s really happy doing what he’s doing and so on.’ "So they said, ‘Well who would you get?’ And I said, ‘It wouldn’t work…’ (but) then it hit me… I said, ‘I think I have an idea… Blackmore’s got a son.’ And they went, ‘You’re kidding. Really?’ Nobody knows that. Not many anyway… because he’s German, half German. And his name is Jurgen Richard Blackmore. And he’s been playing guitar for like 30 years, and he’s great.
"I was in Germany, and I started to get this bug about it, and I called Jurgen and said, ‘Look, can we meet for dinner?’ I knew him when he was, like, 16, 17 and he would come to the shows… He was a kid.
"Anyway, I called and we had dinner and he loved the idea. So I said, ‘Now once I got Jurgen in place here, I got Blackmore on guitar, now I can start lining up the other guys, and of course I wanted to try to represent the incarnations of Rainbow as best we could." Turner immediately rules out Rainbow musicians with drug and alcohol abuse problems and set about putting the new Rainbow together.
He adds, "We’ve got friends and family and actually we call this a family project. That’s how we refer to it in emails. It’s really strange because we’ve all known each other for over 25 years."

Oscars boss LAURENCE MARK has brushed off PETER GABRIEL’s decision not to perform at the Academy Awards, insisting it’s just "a difference of opinion".
The British rocker was billed to perform Oscar-nominated song Down To Earth as part of next weekend’s (22Feb09) telecast, but decided against it when he heard he would have to slash the six-minute song into 65 seconds.
In a video post on his website last week (ends13Feb09), Gabriel said, "It’s a bit unfortunate. The songwriters are a very small part of the filmmaking process but we still work bloody hard." And Mark insists he understands where Gabriel is coming from - but couldn’t accommodate a six-minute tune.
He says, "We completely get where’s he’s coming from. It wasn’t any sort of bad blood going on. It was just a difference of opinion of how he felt things needed to be done." And to prove there are no hard feelings, Gabriel advised Oscars bosses to hire the Soweto Gospel Choir replace him.
Mark tells Eonline.com, "We’re actually chatting with those guys. We think it’s a lovely idea."

Actress ISLA FISHER is terrified of awards ceremonies, after flashing her backside the very first time she stepped out on the red carpet.
The Wedding Crashers star was thrilled to land an invitation to the 2007 Golden Globe Awards and turned up at the Hollywood bash wearing a brand new sheer-cut frock.
But the Aussie star’s night quickly went downhill.
She explains, "I was so pleased with myself as I walked down the red carpet, and all cocky as I posed over my shoulder.
"As I got to the end, I realised the dress was torn up the back and my right cheek was totally exposed.
"They reported it as Isla Flasher. My friends started calling me that too."

CHRIS BROWN has released a statement, insisting most of "what has been speculated or reported" about his 8 February (09) fight with RIHANNA is wrong.
The R&B star was arrested and charged with making criminal threats after reportedly assaulting his then-girlfriend last Sunday.
A week after the incident, the troubled singer has issued his first official comments about what happened.
He says, "Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired. I am seeking the counselling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God’s help, to emerging a better person.
"Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong." Brown also insisted that statements accredited to him on community website Facebook were hoaxes, adding, "While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else.
"Those posts or writings under my name are frauds." Brown, 19, faces jail time if he’s found guilty of beating up his ex.

Pop star LILY ALLEN has sparked outrage by encouraging parents to tell their children to try illegal drugs.
The Smile hitmaker insists hard drugs such as cocaine and ecstasy may not harm users, and is adamant parents should allow their offspring to experiment.
In an interview with Dutch magazine Revu, she says, "Parents should say, ‘Drugs might seem fun but they do funny things to your brain. Some people react to it good, some don’t. Try it and see what you think.’ If I hadn’t been famous I’d have taken loads. Wouldn’t be too wise right now.
"I’ve never been good with cocaine or drugs like that. They make me passionately angry on everything. I steer clear of heroin or crack." She adds, "Mothers and sisters should be role models. Not pop stars or actresses." The singer also admits she has struggled to quit alcohol - despite recently announcing she was giving it up.
She says, "I react bad to alcohol, but I never know when to stop. I keep drinking, because it helps me. I find it difficult to communicate with strangers." Last month (Jan09), Allen was forced to issue a statement condemning drugs after she was quoted as saying the issue is "sensationalised" and that she knows people who "take cocaine three nights a week and get up and go to work everyday, no problem".

Actor ALEC BALDWIN raised laughs on U.S. comedy show SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE at the weekend (14Feb09) - by trying to become the fourth JONAS brother.
Baldwin hosted the show with the teen trio as the night’s musical guests, and the quartet teamed up for a hilarious skit.
As Gary Jonas, Baldwin tried to convince the siblings to change their name to The Doughnut Brothers, stating, "I think it would get us some really cool sponsorship deals." He went on to call Nick Jonas "weird, creepy and smelly," and insisted frontman Joe was "not one of us," adding, "He has straight hair and his eyebrows look like they were drawn in with a Sharpie (pen)." The three Jonas Brothers then voted to kick their "oldest brother - by two years" out of the band, explaining he had broken the band’s road rules.
Nick explained, "You drink, you smoke and we’re pretty sure you do drugs." The bitter sax player was then instructed to hand over his purity ring and leave.

Soccer stud DAVID BECKHAM is heading back to Los Angeles after plans to leave Major League Soccer club Galaxy and sign for AC Milan full-time fell through.
The sports superstar expressed a desire to sign with the Italian club after his two-month loan period finished, but the European team’s bosses had failed to make the right offer to the U.S. team by deadline on Friday (13Feb09).
Beckham, who has served a year of his five-year contract with Galaxy, is expected to attend the club’s training camp in March (09).
Galaxy boss Tim Leiweke says, "I know David is emotionally invested, but I don�t think Milan really was that interested in spending the money we would have had to receive to compensate us for our losses. We need David to honour the contract and come home and let�s stop the distraction. We look forward to seeing David back in camp." The soccer star and his wife Victoria Beckham moved to Los Angeles with their three sons in 2007.

Actor RYAN PHILLIPPE has dismissed reports his 2006 marriage split was caused by jealousy over his former wife REESE WITHERSPOON’s blossoming Hollywood career.
The former couple split just after Witherspoon won her first Oscar in 2005, while Phillippe could only muster critical acclaim for films like Crash and Stop-Loss.
Reports suggested the pair drifted apart because the actor couldn’t handle his wife’s success - but he insists nothing could be further from the truth.
He says, "That was the least of our problems. I was always really proud of her success. I’m not a competitive person, and I have no aspirations to be a giant in this industry. I like making movies, but I never had designs on making $25 million a picture."

Ex-Beatle SIR PAUL McCARTNEY has picked up a strange new exercise routine - eye yoga.
The singer, 66, discovered the technique on a trip to India last year (08).
In an interview on U.S. TV, the musician demonstrated his odd new workout, during which he stares in different directions and holds his gaze for 20 seconds at a time.
He was taught the routine by an eye yoga expert at a hotel in India.
McCartney says, "He told me eyes are muscles (and) are just like any other muscles, and they need exercise to keep them working properly.
"Spending so much time at computers or (watching) the TV or reading books, we are only using one set of muscles in our eyes. The yoga gives a workout to the other ones." The singer claims he indulges in an eye workout up to six times a day.

Former GUNS ‘N’ ROSES guitarist SLASH has bought British pop star Robbie Williams’ mansion in Los Angeles.
Angels hitmaker Williams has moved back to his native England, and is settling in to his new $10.2 million (£7 million) luxury home in Wiltshire.
Slash, real name Saul Hudson, was impressed with the size of the house - which includes an enormous indoor soccer pitch.
A friend of the rocker tells British tabloid the Sunday Mirror, "Slash was keen on the house because it’s big enough to entertain lots of guests."

90210 star ANNALYNNE MCCORD is embracing the fact she has become Hollywood’s new film and TV "bitch" after realising she looks too mean to play good girls on camera.
The blonde stunner initially tried out for a series of good girl parts - but casting agents had other plans for her.
She explains, "I remember going into a casting office and I read for the nice girl and they were like, ‘That was great, now can you read this?’ Of course it was the part of the bitch.
"I had to ask them why, and they were like, ‘You walk in the room and you just look like a bitch!’ I’m like, ‘Thank you, that’s awesome.’ What a nice vote of confidence there." But, after finding success as the bad girl in TV hits Nip/Tuck, 90210 and new cheerleading film Fired Up!, McCord likes being mean on screen: "I’ve started to embrace it and make a nice transition into tough bad-ass roles in films, and those are the types of roles I look to play. Playing the evil girl is fun and I’m starting to relish it now." McCord is in negotiations to play bad girl Heidi in upcoming Twilight sequel New Moon.
