PORTISHEAD ASK FANS TO SHAPE THEIR FUTURE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:36 pm

British band PORTISHEAD are asking fans to help decide their future, after quitting their record deal with label giants Universal.
The group reunited in 2007 - after eight years in the music wilderness - to release their third album, titled Third.
Earlier this year (09), they wrapped up their deal with Universal imprint Island, but they are determined to keep making and releasing music, with a little help from their loyal fanbase.
Frontman Geoff Barrow says, "We are free. Well, free of a deal and free of commitment… for now! With the world being the way it is there are lots of options open, but if you lot have any bright ideas of how we should sell our music in the future let us know, why not!" They have just one rule - don’t suggest they hand out their songs for free. Barrow adds, "I don’t think that were into giving our music away for free to be honest - it f**kin’ takes ages to write and we have to heat our swimming pools!"

IN FLAMES CANCEL TOUR DATES OVER MISSING MEMBERS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:36 pm

Swedish rockers IN FLAMES have cancelled their upcoming U.K. tour after losing two of their members.
Guitarist Jesper Stromblad is currently battling alcohol addiction at a clinic in his homeland, and now bassist Peter Iwers has been forced to step out of the band as he prepares to become a dad.
Stromblad was replaced by Niclas Engelin for dates in South America, Australia and Japan, but the band has decided there’s no way they can continue with two temporary members.
The remaining musicians have decided to scrap upcoming dates in Britain and Ireland in April (09).
A statement released to Blabbermouth.net reads, "We are very sad to announce that the U.K. and Ireland tour will not happen as planned. Jesper is currently at an alcohol rehabilitation clinic and Peter is about to become a dad.
"We obviously knew about Peter becoming a dad and originally planned to have a replacement bassist, but with the recent events surrounding Jesper, we simply feel that it is not fair on the fans to see a completely different line-up, which, in our eyes, is not In Flames."

JAMES REGRETS WOODSTOCK SNUB

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:33 pm

Rock ‘n’ roll star TOMMY JAMES still regrets turning down the chance to perform at Woodstock.
The Crimson & Clover singer and his backing band The Shondells were among the first names selected to play at the upstate New York music festival in 1969 - but they couldn’t bring themselves to perform on a farm and turned the promoters down.
James recalls, "I was in Hawaii at the time and we got asked to do the festival. Artie Kornfeld was one of the principals of the festival - and a friend of mine - and we got asked to go.
"I said, ‘Wait a minute, you’re asking me to leave paradise and fly 6,000 miles to a pig farm? Did I just hear you right?’ I said, ‘If we’re not there, start without us,’ and they did and they called it Woodstock.
"By Thursday of that week, we knew we screwed up really bad."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:33 pm

PET SHOP BOYS star CHRIS LOWE nearly didn’t make it to Wednesday (18Feb09) night’s Brit Awards - after he was knocked down with a bout of flu.
Lowe, along with bandmate Neil Tennant, was honoured at the ceremony with an Outstanding Contribution award in recognition of the duo’s 23-year career.
Their explosive performance, along with famous superfans Lady GaGa and The Killers’ Brandon Flowers, brought the show at London’s Earl’s Court to a climax.
But Lowe confesses he had to dose himself up with cold-fighting drugs to ensure he made it to the stage.
He tells Britain’s The Sun newspaper, "I’ve spent the last few days going to bed early with half the cold remedies from (British pharmacist) Boots for company.
"I’ve got the worst cold but there was no way I was going to miss the show."

BONO’S GIRLS ALOUD DREAM

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:30 pm

U2 frontman BONO harbours a secret singing ambition - he’d love to be the sixth member of British girlband GIRLS ALOUD.
The Beautiful Day hitmaker and his band kicked off the Brit Awards in London on Wednesday night (18Feb09) with their forthcoming track Get On Your Boots, before Girls Aloud took to the stage for a rendition of their award-winning hit The Promise.
And impressed onlooker Bono found himself longing to perform with the pop stars, telling British newspaper The Sun he wants "to be in Girls Aloud".
He says, "Seriously, I think Girls Aloud are at the cutting edge of pop music. They are a great band and deserve to be centre stage. They have everything a pop band should have - songs, the look, it’s all there." And even though their musical styles are so different, Bono still sees himself on a level with the glamorous singers.
He adds, "We see ourselves as contemporaries of bands like Coldplay, Kings Of Leon, Interpol - and even Girls Aloud."

COLDPLAY AND KILLERS THRILL WITH STAR-STUDDED CONCERT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:27 pm

Rockers COLDPLAY and THE KILLERS staged an all-star gig on Wednesday night (18Feb09) - with BONO and TAKE THAT frontman GARY BARLOW putting in surprise appearances at a one-off charity concert.
The Yellow hitmakers and the rockers’ frontman Brandon Flowers had performed at the Brit Awards at London’s Earl’s Court earlier in the evening.
They were forced to make a quick dash across the U.K. capital in time for the War Child charity event at the The O2 Shepherds Bush Empire.
The two headlining acts thrilled the 2,000 lucky fans who were waiting at the venue by putting on a selection of their own hits - but it was the star-studded collaborations with their guests that really delighted the audience.
At the end of the set, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin declared to the crowd, “This is going to be the best encore you’ve ever seen," before introducing Barlow and U2’s Bono to the stage.
Martin and Barlow duetted on Take That classic Back for Good before Bono and Flowers came out to join the pair on The Killers’ 2005 hit All These Things That I’ve Done.
U2’s The Edge, Martin’s wife Gwyneth Paltrow, actress Anna Friel, and Pet Shop Boys’ singer Neil Tennant were among the stars watching from the audience.

AC/DC GIG ENDS IN CHAOS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:27 pm

An AC/DC concert in Norway on Wednesday (18Feb09) night ended in chaos, after traffic problems outside the venue led to violent clashes with police.
The rockers were playing at the Telenor Arena at Fornebu, just outside Oslo and long jams before the gig left many fans walking for miles along the town’s main highways to reach the event.
After the gig had wrapped up, problems for fans continued with stationary traffic and a lack of public transport, leaving many people stranded.
And the post-gig furore turned nasty, according to Norwegian website Budstikka.no, with many fans venting their anger on police officers - throwing bottles at patrol cars and tearing down fences erected to control the crowds.
Local police blamed poorly organised transport systems and frustrated alcohol-fuelled rock fans for the breakdown of order after the gig, according to the website.
No arrests were made.

SHAKUR’S MOTHER IN LEGAL ROW

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:27 pm

The mother of TUPAC SHAKUR is facing legal action after allegedly backing out of a deal to sell the rights to the late rapper’s life story for a film adaptation.
Amaru Entertainment, which is run by Afeni Shakur, the star’s mother and the executor of his estate, is being sued by film production company Morgan Creek.
In papers filed at Los Angeles Superior Court, officials at the production house allege a written contract was in place for the rights to the California Love hitmaker’s life story.
They claim Afeni backed out of negotiations, which began in November (08), and is now refusing "to honor and perform a contract of a production of the film based on the life of Tupac Shakur".
The company is seeking unspecified damages.
But lawyers for Amaru have denied existence of any such deal with Morgan Creek - and claim the production company only filed the writ to sabotage talks with other movie studios about adapting Shakur’s life story.
Attorney Skip Miller says, "There is no agreement with Morgan Creek, there never was, and there never will be.
"They have scared away Paramount, Fox and others, and we are going to sue them and recover millions (in damages)." Lawyers for Morgan Creek declined to comment on the allegations.

GIBSON’S PUBLICIST DENIES WORKING FOR BROWN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:36 am

MEL GIBSON’s publicist has denied reports he has been hired to salvage the career of embattled singer CHRIS BROWN after the R&B star was arrested for allegedly beating girlfriend RIHANNA.
Brown faces possible jail time after he was charged by Los Angeles police for making criminal threats following a heated argument with ex-girlfriend Rihanna in the early hours of 8 February (09).
The incident is said to have left the Umbrella star in need of hospital treatment and she has since returned to her native Barbados to recuperate.
With many insiders stating the singer’s career is doomed because of the huge media interest in the shocking story, Brown was reported to have hired Alan Nierob to help him limit the damage.
Nierob is renowned for helping save Lethal Weapon star Gibson’s movie career after his infamous anti-Semitic outburst in 2006, when he was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI).
However, the PR guru has contacted celebrity site Access Hollywood to refute rumours that he is taking Brown on as a client.
Instead, Brown is working with publicist firm Sitrick and Company - who released a statement on Brown’s behalf earlier this week (15Feb09) in which he stated he was "saddened" by the incident.

50 FEARS FOR AMERICA’S MIDDLE CLASS IN RECESSION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:36 am

Rapper-turned-businessman 50 CENT fears the recession will wipe out the middle classes of America.
The hitmaker has took a fiscal beating in the ongoing economic crisis, but he’s worried for those who don’t have his millions in the bank.
The smart-talking In Da Club rapper tells King magazine, "The Unites States is the place to do business, so if it’s bad here, where do you go? "We may lose our middle class. If you have $20,000 in stocks invested in different areas, a home that you actually want to live in and a car, that’s middle class. So those people who had stocks in GM (General Motors) like I had (are in trouble).
"My (broker) from (finance firm) Goldman Sachs just got laid off. (If) the guy you got assisting you… is having issues, then you really got to look into it."

VON TEESE: ‘I LIED ABOUT POST-MARRIAGE CELIBACY’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:33 am

DITA VON TEESE has laughed off comments she made stating she quit sex for a year following her divorce from MARILYN MANSON - admitting she lied about her vow of celibacy.
The burlesque beauty claimed she gave up men for 12 months after splitting from the shock rocker in 2006, insisting she needed time to fully heal after her failed marriage.
She told British tabloid the News Of The World, "After the divorce I was going through complete heartbreak. It changes you, I spent the first year not having sex at all, which was strange as I still continued to convey sex in my work." But the star has confessed she wasn’t telling the truth during the seemingly candid interview - and found it hilarious when her pals quizzed her over the celibacy claims.
She tells E! Online "All my friends (saw that) and were like, What? I just thought it was funny to say at the time.
"I’m pretty sure it’s safe for you to report that I’ve had sex by now."

CYRUS’ CO-STAR: ‘MILEY’S A GREAT ROLE MODEL’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:33 am

MILEY CYRUS can rely on her friends - the HANNAH MONTANA’s co-star ALISON BRIE has slammed the press for constantly scrutinising the actions of the young superstar.
Brie, who played Nina in the hit Disney show, has spoken out in defence of the teen sensation after she was heavily criticised for appearing to mock Asians in a set of leaked snaps.
It isn’t the first time the young actress/singer has courted controversy - she caused a media furore after posing half-naked for a risque cover shoot for Vanity Fair last year (08) - aged just 15.
But Brie, who now stars in TV hit Mad Men, believes people shouldn’t be so hard on Cyrus - insisting any person would find it hard to be perfect under the glare of the media spotlight.
She tells Usweekly.com, "I think people are too hard on kids in the entertainment industry. It’s a really tough industry to be in.
"If your average Joe was put under a microscope and scrutinised the way Miley Cyrus is, they’d be doing a lot worse. In general, she does great at being a great role model for kids. Everybody makes mistakes."

JUDGE BANS RELEASE OF COLEMAN’S DISORDERLY CONDUCT DEPOSITION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:30 am

Pint-sized actor GARY COLEMAN has won his bid to prevent the release of the videotaped testimony in which he pleaded no contest to charges of reckless driving and disorderly conduct.
The former Diff’rent Strokes star was in court in December (08) to face charges stemming from the incident, which took place earlier in 2008. He pleaded no contest to the charges and was ordered to pay a $100 (£70) fine.
The charges stem from an altercation at a bowling alley when Coleman allegedly struck 24-year-old fan Colt Rushton with his car after he took photos of the star and his wife Shannon Price.
Rushton was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. He filed a lawsuit against Coleman for damages just two weeks after the incident.
A Utah judge ruled on Tuesday (17Feb09) that Coleman’s deposition from the case should not be released for public viewing until the personal-injury lawsuit is settled, after the actor’s lawyers insisted the tape could prevent a fair trial.
Judge Samuel McVey told the court, "I do not want to come in here and have the whole jury challenged off."
