AUTHORITIES MOVE MILLIONAIRE KIDS OUT OF SLUMS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:27 pm

Oscar-winning movie SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE is the gift that keeps giving for its child stars - authorities in Mumbai, India are planning to provide the young actors with housing so they can escape their lives of poverty.
Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismail, who played Latika and Salim in the early scenes of the film, were plucked from obscurity by moviemaker Danny Boyle after he first visited the Indian slums to set the scene for his picture.
Despite controversy surrounding their wages - between $725 (£500) and $2,465 (£1,700) for their work - Boyle vowed to ensure the children’s future - promising to put them through school and establishing a trust fund for the pair.
And the kids weren’t forgotten as Slumdog Millionaire swept the board at the Academy Awards on Sunday (22Feb09) - they were whisked to Hollywood for the ceremony to see the movie collect eight awards out of the ten categories it was nominated in.
Now, housing bosses in Mumbai have arranged flats for Ali and Ismail and their respective families in a bid to move them from out of the slums which helped make them famous.
Rubina’s father Rafiq says, "It means so much to get a proper flat. First the Oscars, now this. For three generations, we have been in this slum - now we may get out of here. We never dreamed of owning a flat." Amarjeet Singh Manhas of the Maharashtra housing authority, adds, "These children have made the country proud." Earlier this week (begs23Feb09) India’s Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit announced entertainment tax would be waived for the film after boosting tourism in the country.

50 CENT TO STOP BROWN GAGS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:30 am

Rapper 50 CENT has vowed to stop joking about the alleged altercation between CHRIS BROWN and RIHANNA - after seeing a photograph of what appears to be a badly bruised RIHANNA.
Singer Brown was charged with making criminal threats following an incident earlier this month (Feb09) which reportedly left the Umbrella hitmaker needing hospital treatment.
50, real name Curtis Jackson, had been making light of the alleged fight between the pair, even posting an animated video on his website featuring Brown and Rihanna as characters from the video game Street Fighter.
But the In Da Club hitmaker has now promised to stop poking fun at the supposed altercation after he was left shocked by a snap on celebrity website TMZ.com that appears to show Rihanna with heavy bruising on her forehead, a swollen nose and a bloody lip.
He tells MTV.com, "After I saw the photograph, that wasn’t funny anymore. I didn’t have any information on it. You’re just going on what the public actually had. It shifts the whole thing. Even if you’re saying you’re in a dysfunctional relationship, I understand that.
"There’s a point when you’re already past a woman fighting you back. You look at (the picture), and it’s obviously past that point. There’s some issues there that definitely gotta be addressed. Not to take any shots at Chris or Rihanna or take sides in any way, (but) it’s really not cool. It’s not funny anymore, so there will definitely be no more reference to that from me in any way."

FRANZ FERDINAND star ALEX KAPRANOS is giving up his job as a food writer - because he doesn’t feel qualified to comment on the culinary arts.
The singer/songwriter was asked to write about his love of food for British newspaper The Guardian; his musings led to a book, Sound Bites, and earned him a reputation as "a foodie".
But the Take Me Out hitmaker insists this was never a path he wanted to take.
He says, "I had a couple of calls from TV stations asking if I wanted to present food programmes, and I thought, ‘God, this has got to stop. This is not who I am.’" Kapranos admits his former job as a kitchen worker in top Scottish restaurants gave him an edge as a food critic.
He adds, "I remembered working in my first restaurant in Fort William when a chef asked, ‘Hey, you want a slice of shark?’ And my response was, ‘Shark? What the f**k?’ I figured it would actually be interesting to write from a naive perspective."

HUNT SAVED CLARKE DUNCAN FROM GREEN MILE GRILLING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:24 am

MICHAEL CLARKE DUNCAN’s THE GREEN MILE co-star BONNIE HUNT came to the rescue when the actor disappeared from the film’s set to spend a week partying - she pretended they were having an affair.
The actor landed in hot water after a crew member on the Nashville, Tennessee set mistakenly told him he had eight days off, prompting him to jet home to Chicago, Illinois to party.
He cut himself off from all cell phone contact while away - and returned to discover his absence had brought all production on the film to a halt.
And he credits Hunt with saving his job.
Clarke Duncan explains, "Bonnie helped me out of a bad situation. Never ask a second second assistant director what your schedule is. I asked him and he said I was off for the next eight days.
"So I flew to Chicago and I turned my phone off, ’cause I didn’t wanna be bothered for at least six days. So I’m partying hard and having a good time and there’s this voice in my head going, ‘Check your messages’. So I check my messages and the lady’s voice says, ‘You have… 28 messages.’ And I said, ‘Oh no!’ So the producer has called, the director had called, everybody had called and they were like, ‘Where are you, we’re losing time, we’ve had to change the schedule around.’ "So I flew straight back to Nashville and David Valdes, the executive producer came in and made me feel bad, like, ‘You’ve lost us so much money.’ I was like, ‘Ah man, I didn’t mean to do that.’ So I go onto the set and everybody’s looking at me, like, ‘Where have you been? Tom Hanks is here, Bonnie Hunt’s here, everybody’s here, where have you been?’ "And Bonnie was like, ‘He was in my room ok? I like a little bit of black meat every now and then!’ You broke the ice, everybody started laughing so thank you. That was cool."

CHEN TESTIFIES IN PHOTO TRIAL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:21 am

Asian actor EDISON CHEN gave evidence to a court in Hong Kong via video-link on Tuesday (24Feb09) at the trial of a man accused of distributing explicit pictures of the actor.
The film star was at the centre of a scandal last year (08) when a tape of him allegedly engaging in sexual acts with a string of different women hit the internet.
The video, which Hong Kong Police say captures 1,300 private shots of Chen with at least half a dozen women, was reported to have been copied by staff at a computer shop when Chen put a faulty laptop in for repair.
Computer technician Ho-Chun Sze has since been charged with stealing the photographs from Chen’s computer while servicing the machine and releasing them.
Chen refused to return from the United States to give evidence at the trial, instead providing evidence via video-link from his birthplace of Vancouver, Canada.
And Chen told the court on Tuesday he was the victim of "foul play", adding "I’m quite a private person. This was never meant for anyone else to see. This was a huge shock to me." Chen told the court he believes the photos were copied from his laptop when he took it to a shop for repairs.
The trial continues.
