SIR ANTHONY HOPKINS is such a big fan of reality show AMERICAN IDOL, he wants to turn the TV hit into a movie - and star as the show’s Mr. Nasty, SIMON COWELL.
The legendary Hannibal actor admits he and his family are rooted to their sofas every week as they tune into the latest episode of the singing contest, and he would like the opportunity to play the sharp-tongued British judge on the big screen.
He tells MTV.com, "We watch American Idol. We are American Idol addicts.
"Simon (is my favourite) because he’s so brutally honest. There’s no political correctness with him. He says it as it is." And Cowell’s fellow judge, producer Randy Jackson, has already given the idea the thumbs up.
He says, "I’m a huge Anthony Hopkins fan… Let’s do it!"

PARIS HILTON’s sister NICKY made a citizen’s arrest in West Hollywood on Saturday (21Feb09) morning after a homeless man attacked her.
The socialite was knocked to the ground but unhurt by the transient at 5am.
An off-duty officer dining at a nearby fast food restaurant called for police back-up and helped Hilton make the arrest.
A police spokesman tells Life & Style magazine, "There was a misdemeanour battery that involved Nicky Hilton and a man named Michael Broadhurst. He came up behind Ms. Hilton and pushed her. She’s OK, but she was desirous of prosecution." Broadhurst, who was charged with battery, will appear in court on 21 April (09).

BRITNEY SPEARS’ restraining order against former manager SAM LUTFI and ex-boyfriend ADNAN GHALIB has been extended until Wednesday (25Feb09) by a Los Angeles judge.
A temporary ban obtained by the Toxic hitmaker last month (Jan09) was due to be reviewed on Monday (23Feb09) - but Judge Aviva K. Bobb was forced to delay the hearing until later this week in order to hear more arguments in the case.
Bobb blamed a technicality and a busy court calendar for the postponement.
Spears’ father Jamie, the co-conservator of her estate since January 2008, is seeking to make the restraining order permanent after alleging Lutfi, his lawyer Jon Eardley and Ghalib were conspiring to sabotage the conservatorship.
Lutfi fired back at the allegations in court papers filed on Friday (20Feb09), in which he confessed to having indirect contact with the singer, but dismissed any suggestion his messages to Spears had been of a threatening nature.
And he claims it was Spears who initiated the contact, despite the restraining order - not the other way around.
In his court filing, Lutfi says, "I have not, in any alleged communications with Britney… threatened any act of violence against Britney or her family." His lawyer Bryan Freedman insists they are working to have the restraining order overturned altogether.
He tells People.com, "A restraining order is to protect someone against stalkers and people who want to commit violence, and that description doesn’t fit my client." Lutfi has since sued the Spears family for defamation.

NICOLE SCHERZINGER is planning to make each of the PUSSYCAT DOLLS into superstars - by producing her bandmates’ solo albums.
Lead singer Scherzinger served as the executive producer on three tracks on the girl band’s 2008 album Doll Domination and admits she is now keen to take up producing duties on future projects.
And she insists her dream studio collaboration would be with her fellow bandmates.
She says, "I was able to executive produce with Ron Fair (on Doll Domination) and another producer was Timbaland. I love producing - and maybe I’ll get to produce some of the other girls’ stuff sometime."

Level-headed BLACK EYED PEAS star TABOO spent his first record deal cheque on his legal affairs, so he could win custody of his son.
The rapper, real name Jaime Gomez, was just 17 when his son was born - and he had no way of supporting the child, so custody was given to his former girlfriend.
He says, "I didn’t know what it was to have maturity and stability and I had to grow up fast. As soon as I got a record deal, the first thing I bought was custody of my son. I didn’t want a house or a car; I wanted custody.
"I was still living at my mom’s house, but at least I had my son. Through a couple of successful records I was able to move out and get myself stable with a house." Newly-married Taboo is about to become a dad again - and he’s happy he won’t have to fight for this kid: "I’m about to have a baby; my wife is four months pregnant and I’m very excited about that.
"Now that I have a much more stable lifestyle - with the success of the group and my career - I can enjoy it more."

Eighties pop star DEBORAH GIBSON has dismissed reports she’s become the latest celebrity victim of the economic crash, and her home is going into foreclosure.
The singer’s publicist insists the reports are wrong and Gibson is simply moving out of her home and in with her boyfriend Rutledge Taylor.
She says, "Much to the chagrin of media everywhere, Deborah is simply moving in with her boyfriend of the last year. As we all know, this is the right time to sell." But Gibson will be taking a financial hit on the house - she’s selling it for $995,000 (£686,000) - almost $200,000 (£137,900) less than what she paid for the property in 2005.
Gibson plans to auction off the property, according to UsMagazine.com.

New dad GAEL GARCIA BERNAL is convinced the global economic crisis will be good for the world - because it will drive people back to enjoying quality time, reading and having fun.
The Mexican actor hopes to make the most of the recession by saving cash and taking on free joys, like reading and writing - and he urges everyone to follow his lead.
Bernal says, "To have less money is going to lead us to enjoy other things that are there. That means playing a lot, having fun, writing, reading - things that don’t cost money.
"Experimenting with things, like going with your family somewhere (sic), even to a park. It’s little things. We’re all going to live it. It’s important to rise up and be there for that challenge and enjoy it, not be scared about it… I am optimistic."

Country star TAYLOR SWIFT plans to turn her first home into a replica of pals TIM MCGRAW and FAITH HILL’s Los Angeles pad after living there while shooting scenes for an episode of CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION.
The celebrity couple offered the teenager and her parents the use of their home while she was filming her cameo in the hit TV show - and Swift fell in love with the place.
She tells Rolling Stone magazine, "It’s the size of a country… I go back and forth. You know when you walk into a furniture store, and you’re like, ‘Oh, that’s how I’m going to decorate my house.’"

The actress, who played Hepburn in TV movie The Audrey Hepburn Story, hosted tea and dinner celebrations at the Montage Beverly Hills - and chose old Hollywood glamour as her style for her big day.
It began with a croissant and coffee at Beverly Hills jeweller Tiffany’s, where she dressed as her heroine’s character Holly Golightly for a real breakfast at Tiffany’s.
And the Hepburn theme continued throughout the day at the Montage, where friends and family celebrated with Hewitt.

TWILIGHT star KRISTEN STEWART is tiring of the way the media scrutinises her relationship with co-star ROB PATTINSON, insisting the two aren’t dating and they’re not likely to.
The actress is puzzled by ongoing romance reports, linking her to the British star - because she’s happily dating actor Michael Angarano, her boyfriend of almost three years.
She tells Nylon magazine, "Rob and I are good friends. We went through a lot together, so we feel very close.

Movie tough guy VINNIE JONES’ assault trial has been delayed again - the former soccer star will have to wait another two days to hear what punishment he’s likely to get following a December (08) bar brawl in South Dakota.
Jones was charged with three counts of assault following the bloody fight in a Sioux Falls bar, which left him with 48 stitches in his face.
He was due in court in Minnehaha County, South Dakota on Monday (23Feb09), but the hearing has been rescheduled to Wednesday (25Feb09).
The Snatch star isn’t expected to appear in court.
Justin Barrera, Jones’ fighting foe in the brawl, was arrested on drug charges earlier this month (Feb09).
Barrera reportedly smashed a glass in Jones’ face.
Meanwhile, the actor is hoping to sell the story of his bar fight to help him cover mounting legal expenses connected to the case.
A spokesman for Jones says, "This has been very expensive."

Actress SIENNA MILLER has been forced to defend her green credentials after a newspaper highlighted the amount of flights she takes.
The Alfie star was last year (08) named one of the ten most environmentally friendly celebrities, but has now been taken to task by London’s Evening Standard.
The newspaper reports Miller flew from London to Los Angeles last week (begs16Feb09) only to return to the U.K. three days later for a fashion show.
Darren Johnson, a member of the Green Party, says: "I think you have to look at the messages it sends out. It’s great that high profile celebrities champion causes and (it) makes them more high profile, but if your lifestyle sends out a totally opposite message then it can do more harm than good." But a spokeswoman for Miller tells the newspaper, "Obviously, due to the nature of Sienna’s work, she is required to travel regularly. She tries to offset her carbon footprint wherever possible."

Pop superstar MADONNA has given back to the Malawian orphanage where she adopted her son DAVID - by sending boxes of clothes, books and toys for the needy.
The Music hitmaker, who adopted the tot with ex-husband Guy Ritchie in 2006, showed her generosity to the Home of Hope Orphanage Centre recently when she surprised the organisation’s executives with packages labelled "from David Ritchie to friends at Home of Hope - Malawi".
The boxes contained second-hand clothes from three-year-old David’s own wardrobe, as well as a variety of toys and autographed copies of Madonna’s children’s book, English Roses.
A source says, "These are clothes David can no longer use; they say he is quite a big boy now so he cannot use most of the clothes Madonna bought him immediately after he was adopted.
"The children (at the orphanage) were excited to receive the clothes." However, the orphanage director Lucy Chipeta refused to confirm the items were gifts from Madonna, simply stating, "We have lots of friends across the globe who send us stuff from time to time." Madonna founded her charity Raising Malawi after adopting David from the African nation. The non-profit organisation works to raise funds for six orphanages, including the Home of Hope, in the poverty-stricken country.

MARILYN MANSON’s court showdown with former bandmate STEPHEN BIER has been delayed by two weeks, after a judge granted the keyboardist’s lawyers extra time to study the shock rocker’s financial records.
Manson is accused by Bier - also known by his stage name Madonna Wayne Gacy - of breach of contract.
The $20 million (£14 million) lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court in 2007, alleges Manson, real name Brian Warner, used money from their former band partnership to buy personal goods, including gifts for his ex-wife Dita Von Teese.
Manson countersued Bier, alleging he breached a contract by not fully participating in the making of master recordings, performing in concert, and helping to sell band merchandise - however, the challenge was dropped in January (09).
Manson maintains the band’s partnership was dissolved in 1996, but Bier - who left the group in 2007 - insists the fund still exists and claims he is entitled to a share of revenue.
Bier’s legal team requested the trial, originally set for Monday (23Feb09), be pushed back by up to four months to allow experts to fully review new financial records for Manson’s band, which they received last week (begs16Feb09).
Bier’s attorney Olaf J. Muller demonstrated just how much material they had to read through by bringing boxes full of papers to court on Thursday (19Feb09) - and blamed Manson’s lawyers for causing the delay.
He argued, "These are the most important documents in the whole case. They turn the case upside down and completely change our expert’s opinion. We asked for them a year ago. Three weeks ago we were told they didn’t exist." But Judge Michael L. Stern denied the motion and instead granted them a two-week delay to scrutinise the documents.
The ruling was welcomed by Manson’s lawyer Howard E. King, who insisted the files will show that Bier in fact owes the shock rocker and his band more than $1 million (£704,225).
The trial will now begin on 2 March (09).

Rapper XZIBIT was once unwittingly taken to a gay club by Bad Boy Records boss SEAN ‘DIDDY’ COMBS.
The Hey Now star, who at the time was dating hip-hop video vixen Karrine ‘Superhead’ Steffans, claims Combs called him up late one night while they were in Miami, Florida, and invited them out for a drink.
The former couple accepted the offer and followed Combs to a nearby bar, where they enjoyed drinks in the VIP area.
But it wasn’t until they stepped out of the exclusive section that Xzibit realised where he was.
In an interview with Sirius satellite radio station Foxxhole, Xzibit recalls: "We get to this club, and we walk in the back way. It’s the VIP lounge, ain’t (sic) nobody in there. The club is going, it’s jumping and I’m sitting there with (Steffans).
"So then, (Combs is) doing his business, we go down and get a drink. We sitting there bobbing to the music, and then (Steffans) points over to the corner. There’s (sic) two dudes kissing. I’m like, ‘What the f**k is this?’… Then she points in another direction, and there’s another dude over there, butt a** naked dancing." And Xzibit was so shocked by the experience, he left the club with Steffans without saying a word to Combs - who he’s convinced was aware of the nature of the venue.
He adds, "We take off. We leave the club directly. I didn’t say peace to nobody. It was suspect… I’ve been in a gang of clubs, I ain’t (sic) never mistakenly stepped into a club with that kind of activity. There it is."

JONAS BROTHERS singer JOE JONAS has assured fans he’ll never disband the group to pursue a solo career - because the trio "couldn’t ever break up".
The 19-year-old singer admits he’s considered working on other projects between the band’s albums and touring commitments.
But middle child Joe insists it would only ever be a temporary move.
He says, "People talk a lot about solo projects. It would never be a solo project, it would be a side project. We couldn’t ever break up. We live in the same house!"

Rapper N.O.R.E. has been charged with misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct after he was arrested for allegedly causing a disruption at a Miami, Florida restaurant.
The Nothin’ MC, real name Victor Santiago, was taken into custody at the Miami-Dade county jail early on Sunday (22Feb09) following a heated row with another patron at local restaurant, Fatburger, according to police.
Cops were called after the 31-year-old reportedly began yelling at another customer, threw a cup filled with a yellow liquid at the patron and ripped up a bouquet of flowers.
According to authorities, the rapper punched the man in the face, yelling, "Do you know who I am?" Santiago had been released from custody as WENN went to press. It is not immediately clear whether he has retained a lawyer.

Pop superstar PRINCE ditched his post-Oscars bash at his Hollywood Hills home for a show at Hollywood’s Avalon Ballroom.
Fans and famous friends paid $100 (GBP69)-a-head to join the Purple Rain hitmaker at his Sunday midnight (22Feb09) party, which doubled as the launch for his new website LotusFlow3r.com.
Prince dedicated his two-hour set to Oscar winner Penelope Cruz and performed a string of hits and covers from upcoming releases, including The Cars Let’s Go and Crimson & Clover, a chart-topper for Tommy James and the Shondells.
Oscars attendees Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah and nominee Taraji P. Henson were among the audience.
Announcing, "I’m the DJ tonight," Prince also played covers of the Beatles’ Come Together and the Rolling Stones’ Honky Tonk Woman as well as chart classics Jungle Love and Play That Funky Music.
He ended the show with an encore of I Feel For You at almost 3.30am.
