PENN: ‘I SHOULD BE COMPETING FOR AN OSCAR WITH DEL TORO’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:36 pm

SEAN PENN is stunned pal BENICIO DEL TORO hasn’t been recognised for his portrayal of revolutionary CHE GUEVARA in biopic CHE.
Penn singled out Del Toro as one name the film award organisations had overlooked during his Best Actor acceptance speech at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on 25 January (09), and he’s still struggling to come to terms with the fact the four-hour epic has become the forgotten movie of 2009.
He says, "The fact that there aren’t crowns on (Che director Steven) Soderbergh’s and Benicio Del Toro’s heads right now, I don’t understand.
"That is such a sensational movie, Che. Benicio is f**king good in it. And the fact that I’m not running into these people on this awards-party circuit, it’s crazy.
"Maybe because it’s (Che) in Spanish, maybe the length, maybe the politics." Penn will compete in the Best Actor category at the upcoming Academy Awards on 22 February (09) for his role in Milk. He will go up against Brad Pitt, Mickey Rourke, Frank Langella and Richard Jenkins.

Work has resumed on the latest HARRY POTTER movie a week after DANIEL RADCLIFFE’s stunt double was seriously injured in an onset accident.
David Holmes was admitted to hospital last Wednesday (28Jan09) with a back injury after falling from a harness at Leavesden Studios, near Watford, Hertfordshire, England.

He has undergone spinal surgery and subsequently vowed not to let his injuries blight his career.
The film set at the British studio was closed following the shocking accident, with the U.K.’s Health and Safety Executive launching an investigation into the incident. But the crew are now back at work, according to British newspaper the Daily Mirror.
The new movie is the seventh in J.K. Rowling’s wizard franchise and will be split into two parts, with the first scheduled for release in 2010.

ANISTON THANKS PAPARAZZI FOR HELPING HER WITH STRAY DOG

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:36 pm

Actress JENNIFER ANISTON has heaped praise on the paparazzi who follow her everywhere, after they helped her rescue a lost dog.
The former Friends star was driving along busy Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles when the husky darted out in front of her.
The animal-loving actress pulled over, slowed traffic and made an effort to catch the mutt - shouting at snappers who were trying to take her picture.
And she was delighted when the photographers put their cameras down and started helping her.
She went public with her praise on Friday (06Feb09), during an appearance on U.S. TV chat show Ellen.
The actress said, "I had this moment of going, ‘Oh come on, this is a lost dog; why don’t you help out and go and find the owner?’ - and he actually did." And she also singled out the snappers who helped save her own dog, Norman, when he ran away last month (Jan09).
She added, "Norman got out twice… and the paparazzi returned him.
"There’s a moment when all of a sudden these people that are so inhumane they’re not people; they seem like people that lurk in black cars and rush you… they’re human."

MCELHONE OPENS UP ABOUT LATE HUSBAND

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:30 pm

Actress NATASCHA MCELHONE has given an emotional interview about the sudden death of her husband MARTIN KELLY - revealing the tragedy left her "utterly grief-stricken, bereft and devastated." Plastic surgeon Kelly died from a heart attack after being found slumped on the doorstep of the couple’s London home in May last year (08).
McElhone gave birth to their third son, Rex, five months later.
And the Californication star admits the baby boy has been vital in helping her cope with the loss.
She says, "Everyone’s been saying ‘I don’t know how you can manage on your own, with the baby’ but it’s because of that, in a funny way, it’s been manageable. You can’t hole up and not get out of bed." And McElhone is determined to overcome her grief - because she believes she has no right to be sad.
She adds, "I’m really OK, through necessity, I think. Do you know, I’m just terribly grateful for everything I have. I don’t think I have any right to feel miserable all the time. I don’t know why, it’s just happened to me that, aside from feeling utterly grief-stricken and bereft and devastated, the chinks and shards of light that shine through are so strong and so buoyant I can’t ignore them. Thank God for that. I don’t know why that is - that they’re so bright that they reach me. Thus far, anyway."

PASTORE TESTIFIES IN ASSAULT TRIAL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:30 pm

Former THE SOPRANOS actor VINCENT PASTORE wept in court on Friday (06Feb09) during an emotional testimony as part of an ongoing legal battle with his ex-fiancee.
The 62-year-old star is at the centre of a $5.5 million (£3.79 million) civil lawsuit from his former partner Lisa Regina, 47, who accuses him of assaulting her during a dispute in April 2005.
Pastore - who played Salvatore ‘Big Pussy’ Bonpensiero in the hit show - pleaded guilty in 2005 to attempted assault on Regina, 47, and was sentenced to 70 hours of community service.
He is now battling the case out in New York’s civil courts and on Friday gave a stirring testimony, admitting they did have a blazing row during a drive to New Jersey - but he is adamant the argument never turned physical.
He told the Manhattan Supreme Court court, "I was upset because I knew Lisa was with me because of her own personal goals. It had nothing to do with love. I got angry. I started to cry.
"We were both angry, both yelling at each other," he said. "I had both hands on the steering wheel. I did not hit her on the back of the head, and I did not hit her head on the gear shift, as she has said." Regina claimed to have suffered psychiatric harm from the incident and is seeking damages.

BOYZONE EYE RONSON COLLABORATION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:27 pm

Reformed Irish boyband BOYZONE are keen to team up with MARK RONSON for their next album - but fear the superproducer might turn them down as he is too "picky".
Ronson landed a prestigious Grammy Award for Producer of the Year in 2008 for his work on Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black record, and is currently in high demand for his services.
Boyzone star Stephen Gately admits the band are desperate to secure him to work on their upcoming comeback album.
But the singer is worried they might not have the right credentials to land such a high profile collaboration.
He says, "We’d love to work with Mark Ronson but I don’t know whether he’d want to work with us though.
"He’s very sought after so he can be picky. (But) we want to be adventurous." And the star also names another artist they are hoping to work with - Leona Lewis, after the Bleeding Love hitmaker recently revealed she is a big fan of their work.
Gately adds, "I’d love to do a duet on the new album, Leona has an amazing voice. So who better to work with? She’s fantastic."

ANTHRAX APOLOGISE FOR GIG DISASTER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:27 pm

Rockers ANTHRAX have apologised to fans after their recent performance at an event in New York was unexpectedly cut short.
The group was scheduled to perform a 45 minute set at the Red Bull Snowscrapers snowboarding competition in New York on Thursday (05Feb09) night.
But after the contest over-ran their performance was cut to just three songs, with a technical blunder leading to them losing sound during their final track.
A statement released to Blabbermouth.net reads, "We want to apologise to our fans who came out to the Red Bull event last night in the hellish cold to see us play. One of the snowboarding events ran very late, which caused us to delay the start of our set. That, and a curfew we were not informed about snowballed into an unfortunate situation that was beyond our control.
"No one was more surprised than us when they cut the PA before we could finish the third song. We are particularly mortified that this happened.
"Nothing like this has ever happened to Anthrax before, and we regret that it happened last night. Thank you to those who came out to support, and once again, our sincere apologies."

JUDGE SENDS ADLER BACK TO REHAB

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:24 pm

Former GUNS N’ ROSES drummer STEVEN ADLER has been ordered to check himself back into rehab following his recent arrest for failing to complete court-ordered community service.
The musician was detained by police on 26 January (09) and held for not finishing the order in the time frame set by the judge.
The community service stems from a previous arrest in July (08) for possession of narcotics, being under the influence and for an outstanding warrant.
The rocker pleaded no contest to a charge of heroin possession at Los Angeles Superior Court to escape a jail term for the earlier arrest, and remained on probation while ordered to complete a rehab program in Pasadena, California in December (08).
And following his latest brush with the law, Adler appeared in court in Los Angeles on Friday (06Feb09) where the judge overseeing his case ordered him to check into the Cri-Help Treatment Center in North Hollywood first thing on Monday (09Feb09).

SAVING ABEL ROCKER ACCUSED OF SEXUAL ASSAULT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:24 pm

SAVING ABEL star JASON NULL has been charged with sexual assault in relation to an alleged attack on an underage girl.
The 33-year-old guitarist, co-founder of the group, and Brandon Danger, 21, an employee of the band, were arraigned in an Oakland, California, court on Friday (06Feb09) with both facing felony counts of forced oral copulation and forced oral copulation on a minor.
The charges stem from an alleged incident involving a 17-year-old following a concert at the city’s Oracle Arena on Tuesday (03Feb09), where the group was opening for fellow rockers Avenged Sevenfold.
The unnamed teenager is said to have accused the pair of luring her into the band’s tourbus with the promise of appearing in a music video and forcing her to perform sex acts on them.
Null and Danger were arrested at the scene.
Null pleaded not guilty to the charges and has been freed on $90,000 (£62,000) bail. Danger, who will be back in court on 10 February (09) to enter a plea, remains in custody on a $60,000 (£42,000) bond.
Null’s attorney Kevin Ikuma says, "It is our position that the charges that have been made are baseless. He will be fully exonerated once this case is fully investigated. There is a videotape of the entire incident that the police knew about that they failed to collect at the time of the incident. We are in the process of getting that to the district attorney for their review."

SIMPSON APOLOGISES FOR POOR PERFORMANCE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:33 am

Pop star-turned-country singer JESSICA SIMPSON has apologised to fans for forgetting lyrics during a show in Michigan on Thursday night (05Feb09).
The star left fans stunned when she stumbled through her performance at the Van Andel Arena in Great Rapids, mumbling her lyrics, forgetting words and fighting back tears during a 38-minute set, supporting country trio Rascal Flatts.
According to one local concert reviewer, Simpson stopped the show at one point and asked her band to start a song again.
She apologised onstage, by mouthing the word "sorry" to fans, and on Friday (06Feb09), her publicist declared she just had "an off night".
Her rep says, "She’s a perfectionist and wanted to start some songs over." The concert comes as Simpson’s apparent weight gain makes headlines in the U.S. tabloids, after the singer was photographed looking bigger at a recent show.
It’s not the first time critics have targeted Simpson for her forgetful nature onstage - she was ridiculed after botching Dolly Parton’s 9 To 5 hit during a tribute to the country legend at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. in December, 2006.
