THE BOSS RULES OVER EUROPE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:30 pm

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN has triumphed over Scottish rockers FRANZ FERDINAND by claiming the top spot in the European albums chart.
The Boss’ new release Working On A Dream has debuted at number one on the new countdown, ahead of fellow new entry Franz Ferdinand’s Tonight: Franz Ferdinand.
Seal climbs up two spots to three with Soul, while Kings of Leon sit tight at four with Only By The Night, and Amy MacDonald’s This Is The Life rounds out the top five.
In the European singles chart, Katy Perry continues her reign over the continent - her track Hot N Cold remains in first place, while James Morrison’s duet with Nelly Furtado, Broken Strings sticks at two.
Lady Gaga enjoys a double whammy this week - her song Poker Face leaps up the chart from 29 to three, while Just Dance is just behind at four.
Lily Allen is the only new entry in the singles chart’s top spots - The Fear debuts at five.

  • ROSE: ‘CHINESE DEMOCRACY ISN’T A FLOP’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:27 pm

GUNS N’ ROSES frontman AXL ROSE insists the band’s comeback album hasn’t flopped yet - he plans to sell millions more copies during a long tour to promote the release.
Chinese Democracy was released in November (08), a full 15 years after Rose began work on it.
Despite a huge amount of hype, the disc failed to top the U.S. charts and has been considered a flop - with many blaming Rose for refusing to appear publicly to promote it.
But, in a new interview with Billboard magazine, the rocker insists he never planned to hit number one straight away - revealing the band intend to sell more albums during a long promotional tour.
Rose says, "Our approach, for better or worse, has always been to work the record over the course of the following tour cycles." The star is angry the media have dismissed Chinese Democracy as a failure and criticised him for not giving interviews - and annoyed with the way bosses at his record label Universal handled negative publicity surrounding the release.
He adds, "The opinions expressed or ‘jumped’ on publicly regarding promotion seem to be (about) my or our involvement with mainstream media - talk shows, rock magazines and dot-coms - which have generally held negative public stances toward myself or the band for years.
"In regard to our promotion, it was based around certain agreements with Universal, Interscope, our management and legal (teams) that unfortunately never happened."

  • MORRISSEY RULES OUT SMITHS REUNION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:27 pm

British singer MORRISSEY has put an end to one of the longest-running rumours in pop - he will never reform THE SMITHS.
The cult band split in 1987, and fans have speculated ever since the break-up that the frontman would one day reunite with guitarist Johnny Marr for a one-off concert or world tour.
Marr was forced to deny the persistent rumours last December (08) when reports of an "imminent" reunion surfaced yet again.
And Morrissey has now spoken out in a bid to finally put the story to rest - insisting he hates nostalgia.
Quizzed about a possible Smiths reunion by New Zealand rock magazine Rip It Up, he says: "Why? What’s the point? Just to satisfy other people’s nostalgia? That’s all it is - nostalgia! No, I can’t see any reason for it; I do not see the point. But if anybody does, I’d be delighted to hear it.
"I don’t think there is any (unfinished business). I really don’t. Really, I’m okay by myself… And I don’t say that to have a dig at anybody else. So, no, I do not see the point of it, it eludes me."

  • COLDPLAY AVOID LEGAL WRANGLE AT GRAMMYS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:27 pm

British rockers COLDPLAY have made peace with lawyers for JOE SATRIANI over a copyright suit - meaning they can enjoy the upcoming Grammy Awards without fear of a legal stand off at the ceremony.
Satriani filed suit in a U.S. federal court in December (08) alleging the Yellow hitmakers copied segments from his 2004 instrumental If I Could Fly to use in their 2008 hit track Viva La Vida.
The guitarist subsequently hired a team of detectives to hand-deliver the band a plagiarism lawsuit - picking the 8 February (09) prizegiving in Los Angeles, where Coldplay are to perform, as the perfect time to corner the band.
But now a lawyer for the musician has announced the matter has now been resolved, with Coldplay hiring a new legal team in America to fight the case.
Satriani’s attorney, Howard King, says, "All of that has been averted now. Coldplay have hired one of the finest entertainment firms in California, which is probably good for all. We tried to have a conversation with Coldplay. Their British lawyers said there wasn’t anything to discuss. And then after we filed the lawsuit, they didn’t agree to accept service of the complaint." And King admits Satriani is secretly pleased that the track in question has been nominated in the Record Of The Year category: "We hope Joe Satriani’s song wins a Grammy. In fact, we hope Joe has a very big Grammy night!"

  • JAMES: ‘OBAMA COMMENTS WERE A JOKE’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:39 pm

Soul legend ETTA JAMES has defended her controversial rant against U.S. President BARACK OBAMA and singer BEYONCE KNOWLES - insisting she was merely sharing a joke with her fans.
The singer was recorded at a show in Seattle, Washington last month (Jan09) telling the crowd Obama has "big ears", adding: "He ain’t my president." She also slammed Beyonce for singing a version of At Last for Obama following his inauguration, and said: "I can’t stand Beyonce! She had no business up there singing… Singing my song that I’ve been singing forever." But James has reacted to the controversy by insisting the remarks were meant in jest - and nobody at the show was offended by her comments.
She tells the New York Daily News, "I didn’t really mean anything. Even as a little child, I’ve always had that comedian kind of attitude… That’s probably what went into it." The singer admitted she was put out by Beyonce’s performance because it made her feel "left out of something that was basically mine, that I had done every time you look around." But she added: "Nobody was getting mad at me in Seattle. They were all laughing, and it was funny." James is also adamant her comments about Obama’s appearance were for a laugh: "(I) always thought he was handsome and he was cool. I still had my joke about him. That might be horrible. The President might not ever like me in life. (But) he’s got other stuff (to worry about) besides Etta James."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:36 pm

Hollywood actress JENNIFER ANISTON has been dreading her upcoming 40th birthday ever since she discovered a grey hair amongst her blonde highlights.
The former Friends star will reach the landmark age on Wednesday (11Feb09) and insists she is never normally upset about getting older.
But Aniston admits she recently broke down about finally turning 40, when she realised her prized locks were beginning to show the tell-tale signs of ageing.
She tells TV host Ellen DeGeneres, "I did have a moment over the weekend, my first like ‘Huh. … I don’t want to (turn 40).
"I found a really long grey hair and it kind of flipped me out. It’s not my first but it’s the fact that it was so long. I was like, ‘Oh that’s been there. How many others are there, and what does that mean?’ It actually brought me to tears slightly." But Aniston is adamant she has now made her peace with her age, adding, "I feel better than I ever felt in my life."

  • FISHER CHALLENGED TO PLAY AFRICAN-AMERICAN MAN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:36 pm

ISLA FISHER’s acting abilities were set to be tested to the limit when she first arrived in Hollywood - because a movie boss wanted her to play an African-American man.
The Australian star headed to the U.S. after her turn in 2002’s Scooby-Doo in the hope of finding an agent to take her on.
Fisher was delighted when one agreed to represent her, despite not seeing any of the 33-year-old’s movies.
But the beauty was left disheartened when she discovered the script he had in mind for her.
Fisher tells David Letterman, "When I first came to America I met one of the heads of a very important agency and he said to me, ‘You are a talented actress’. I said ‘What of my work have you seen?’, and he said, ‘Absolutely nothing. But I’m going to make you a star.’ "He said, ‘There will be a script on your desk tomorrow’, so I ran home and opened the script and it said, ‘Isla Fisher, for your consideration: The role of Vivian’.
"I was so excited I flipped through the script and it said, ‘The camera pans to Vivian. Vivian - a tall 45-year-old African-American man!’ Clearly he thought I was a really good actress."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:36 pm

Pop star JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE is keen to test his acting skills with a turn on the stage - but fears snobbery amongst directors will keep him out of theatre roles.
The SexyBack hitmaker has been pouring his energy into his film career recently with roles in last year’s (08) The Love Guru and upcoming movie The Open Road with Jeff Bridges.
And Timberlake admits he is also keen to try theatre, but is worried his singing career and celebrity status mean he will never be taken seriously as a theatre actor.
He says, "I think pop culture has done a number on creativity, because for me to make that statement (about wanting to work on theatre), I get the reaction: ‘Really?’ It’s like, ‘Yeah, why wouldn’t I?’ "The opportunity is there. It’s sort of like, I have a day job, and this becomes a hobby (that) I can plunge into with full creative eagerness."

  • CONNOLLY’S EX WAS HOOKED ON HE’S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU BOOK

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:33 pm

ENTOURAGE star KEVIN CONNOLLY was well-versed with self-help book HE’S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU before starring in its big screen adaptation - his ex-girlfriend repeatedly quizzed him about the break-up manual.
The actor couldn’t escape the handbook, which advises women baffled by aloof men to move on, because his ex wore out her copy grilling him about the dating dilemmas it described.
He recalls, "I had an ex-girlfriend that had it sort of placed on the nightstand, like the Bible… asking me strange questions in the middle of the night." And Connolly, who co-stars with Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Aniston and Drew Barrymore in the film, inspired by the book, admits he was shocked by the cruel male behaviour it detailed: "At one point, when she (ex-girlfriend) wasn’t there, I kind of said, ‘I’ve got to see what’s going on over here.’ "I took the book and kind of leafed through it and said, ‘OK, now I get it. Now I see what she’s complaining about.’"

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:33 pm

JENNIFER CONNELLY credits her 11-year-old son with allowing her to pursue quality acting roles - because he changed her outlook on life.
The star was already a well-established name in Hollywood when she gave birth to son Kai, by photographer David Dougan, in 1997.
But it was 2001’s A Beautiful Mind - which won her Best Supporting Actress gongs at the Academy Awards, the BAFTAs and the Golden Globes - that really established her acting credentials.
And Connelly is adamant the youngster played a big part in helping her garner the role.
She tells the Sydney Morning Herald, "I don’t think I would have been able to do the quality work that followed if it hadn’t been for my son.
"He changed me. He helped me to understand myself and find my place in the world." Connelly is now married to Paul Bettany and they have a five-year-old son, Stellan.

  • VAN DAMME’S AGONY OVER SON

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:33 pm

Movie tough-guy JEAN-CLAUDE VAN DAMME hopes his latest big-screen outing will reunite him with his estranged teenage son.
The Universal Soldier star has no contact with 13-year-old Nicholas since his bitter divorce from fourth wife Darcy LaPier ended with him losing a custody battle.
He is adamant the teenager is even banned from contacting his siblings, Van Damme’s other children - Kristopher, 21, and 18-year-old Bianca. But the musclebound movie star is pinning his hopes on a reunion.
The actor is about to return to the big screen in semi-autobiographical film JCVD - and wants the movie to prove to his youngest son that his father is not a failure.
Van Damme tells British newspaper The Sun, "The only way I can bring my son back is to be successful again as they were saying to him, ‘Your father is a loser’.
"The custody case is very painful. The legal system in California is crazy. For me not to see my kid is a disaster. You cannot do that to nobody. It has got to the point where Nicholas cannot communicate with my other children on Facebook.
"My other son is making a movie and wants my youngest son to be in the film because he is thinking about him. So they were communicating about the script. Someone found out and he was cut off."

Turner’s rocker reputation has been tarnished by his partner, U.K. TV presenter Alexa Chung, who admits her guitarist boyfriend is responsible for keeping the house in order.
Chung says, "He is a very neat, clean boy and unfortunately I am a really messy girl. My clothes are strewn all over the place so he has to do most of the tidying up.

THE KILLERS frontman BRANDON FLOWERS has to hold himself back on tour when he finds himself fantasising about attacking his drummer RONNIE VANNUCCI.
The rocker betrays his mild-mannered persona by admitting he occasionally wishes he could vent his anger on his fellow bandmates.
And his inspiration is The Police rocker Sting, who harboured a tumultuous relationship with drummer Stewart Copeland in the late 70s and early 80s.
Flowers explains, "I felt our unit was strong. But every now and then I do have a Sting fantasy where I want to jump over the drums." But the tight-lipped star refuses to reveal the reason for his rage, adding: "Why would I want to do that? It’s something only I and our drummer can know."

Singer RUFUS WAINWRIGHT is premiering his new opera in England after it was apparently rejected in the U.S. for containing French lyrics.
The Canadian singer was hoping to unveil his most ambitious project to date, an opera entitled Prima Donna, in New York’s esteemed Metropolitan Opera House - but claims he was turned down because the piece wasn’t in English.
He explains, "With an opera, so many things can go wrong, you have to minimise the mistakes, and doing it in English can be one. Lots of operas are ruined by being in English.
"(But) the Metropolitan Opera didn’t want it because it’s written in French. In America they want everything to be American!" But the star insists he is grateful to show off his masterpiece at the Manchester International Festival in July (09): "The opera world is in a desperate place right now. They have to lower themselves to work with people like me!"

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:24 pm

KATY PERRY has launched a foul-mouthed tirade against a U.S. website after reporters misquoted her talking about her ex-boyfriend TRAVIS MCCOY.
The I Kissed A Girl hitmaker has refrained from speaking about her Gym Class Heroes ex since their split at Christmas (08).
Staff at People.com reported that the singer had slammed her former lover’s commitment issues during a performance at Los Angeles’ Wiltern Theatre on Saturday (31Jan09).
But the report was later corrected, with Perry’s representative insisting she was in fact jokingly referring to Death Cab For Cutie frontman Benjamin Gibbard.
And Perry has now hit back at website bosses who blamed the blunder on "erroneous reporting".
In a blog post entitled ‘that’s f**kin’ right it was an error’, Perry writes, "I challenged them to actually find the audio clip/video of me "QUOTED" saying that. They of course couldn’t cause… I didn’t say that. I would never be so tacky.
"I go (to) great lengths to keep it about the music. I made a different random type of joke before I introduced my song, ur so gay. I never mentioned Travis or his lovely band, as they are all still friends of mine.
"I don’t care if you make fun of me, my music, my zits, my cellulite or my bad choice of clothing… I really don’t. Just have some soul, and don’t LIE. I am not asking to be exempt from the media, I am just asking for some f**king fact checking.
