VALKYRIE RULES GLOBAL BOX OFFICE
TOM CRUISE’s war thriller VALKYRIE has topped the foreign box office for the second week in a row, taking in earnings of $18.6 million (£13 million) in 26 territories.
The movie, about a German soldier’s plot to assassinate Hitler in 1944, fought off competition from awards season contenders including Brad Pitt’s drama The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, which finished second at $11.5 million (£8 million).
Kate Winslet’s Revolutionary Road trailed closely behind with $11 million (£7.6 million).
Rounding out the top five were Slumdog Millionaire and Doubt, both up for Oscars at this month’s (Feb09) Academy Awards.
