PHOENIX MAKES HIP-HOP DEBUT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:27 pm

Retired actor JOAQUIN PHOENIX stunned partygoers at a Las Vegas club when he stepped to the stage to show off his newest endeavour - rapping.
The star, who announced his retirement from acting in October (08), performed three hip-hop tracks from his forthcoming album for a full house at nightclub LAVO in Sin City on Friday (16Jan09).
Phoenix, sporting a scraggly beard and long hair, bobbed along the catwalk, rapping while trying in vain to urge the crowd to dance.
After his set, he was left red-faced after he tripped and fell into the crowd as he attempted to step off the stage.
But despite his performance and the audience’s unenthused response, Phoenix insists he is passionate about pursuing a hip-hop career.
He tells People.com, "This is me saying this is who I am. This is my story.
After all the years of reading scripts and reading lines, this is my chance to do something straight from the heart and put it out there.
"When I was young I liked punk rock music but then I discovered rap. I love the storytelling aspect of hip-hop.
"Are there people out there who think I’m a joke? I’m sure there will be. Are there people who think it’s going to suck? Probably, but I can’t worry about that." The performance was reportedly filmed by Phoenix’s brother-in-law Casey Affleck for a forthcoming documentary tracking the star’s new career in music.

She tells Heeb magazine, "That’s what I watched in rehab. I would watch The Comeback, and I would watch (movie) Alexander over and over and over again."

SNIDER BRINGS SICK CAPTAIN HOWDY BACK

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:24 pm

TWISTED SISTER rocker DEE SNIDER is heading back to the big screen to reprise his CAPTAIN HOWDY character in the sequel to 1998 cult horror movie STRANGELAND.
A Nightmare on Elm Street ghoul Robert Englund will also return for the new film, Strangeland: Disciple. Englund was a victim of Snider’s sick character in the first film.
Snider, who wrote and co-produced the original film, admits he set out to create the most disturbing movie.
He tells Blabbermouth.net, "At the time, I really wanted to re-invent the wheel of horror. Horror, traditionally, plays on people’s fears of being chased and dying. That’s totally played out.
"When you’re being chased, there’s the chance of escape. When you die, there’s peace. What’s much worse than being chased and dying is being helpless and suffering." In Strangeland, Snider played a sexual sadist who lures victims via the Internet, forcing them to submit to ancient tribal rituals.
The rocker claims his 10-year-old movie was the catalyst for modern torture films like the Saw movies and Hostel.
He adds, "If I am the father of torture films, I’ve got to come back like a sledgehammer to reclaim my crown." Strangeland: Disciple will start shooting later this year (09).

BOY GEORGE TERRIFIED OF JAIL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:24 pm

Former CULTURE CLUB frontman BOY GEORGE is terrified he will die behind bars while locked up in one of London’s toughest prisons, according to a fellow inmate.
The singer - real name George O’Dowd - was convicted in December (08) of chaining Norwegian Audun Carlsen to a hook in a bedroom at his East London apartment in April 2007 after suspecting the escort of tampering with his computer.
O’Dowd, 47, was jailed for 15 months on Friday (16Jan09) after a judge at London’s Snaresbrook Crown Court described the incident as "gratuitous violence".
The fallen star was then taken to the court’s holding cell where he reportedly broke down in tears and confessed his fears to Richard Lyttle, who was being temporarily held on a driving charge.
Lyttle tells British newspaper the Sunday Mirror, "When I walked into the cell I saw this fat, bald bloke sitting in the corner crying like a baby. He was shaking like a leaf, a total wreck.
"He kept sobbing over and over, ‘I can"t go to jail - I’ll be killed.’ "He was crying about how he was just a fat old pop star that everyone was laughing at." Lyttle, later released on bail, warned the star he would be targeted by other convicts because of his celebrity: "He was shaking as he listened and kept asking what other inmates would make of him. I warned him that because of who he was and because he was gay, people would be out to beat him up.
"He said he felt all alone and wouldn’t be able to cope in prison. He was gutted, emotional and just all over the place." O’Dowd was reportedly moved into a hospital wing after arriving at London’s tough Pentonville Prison on Saturday (18Jan09) in a bid to separate him from the institution’s other 1,000-plus inmates.

WINEHOUSE: ‘I WON’T LET BLAKE DIVORCE ME’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:42 pm

Troubled singer AMY WINEHOUSE is refusing to let her husband BLAKE FIELDER-CIVIL divorce her - because she wants to give their relationship another chance when he is released from prison.
Lawyers for Fielder-Civil, jailed for causing actual bodily harm and perverting the course of justice, filed papers last week (begs05Jan09) in a bid to bring the couple’s 20-month marriage to an end.
The move was said to be sparked by reports linking Winehouse to former rugby player Joshua Bowman during her current sunshine break in the Caribbean - but the pair has denied they were romantically involved.
And Winehouse is determined not to let the divorce go through - as she still cares about her incarcerated partner.
She says, "I still love my Blake. I won’t let him divorce me. He’s still in jail but the moment he comes out I’ll be there waiting for him.
"I love him because he’s just like me. Blake is the male version of me. We’re perfect for each other. I don’t want to go back home to England. I want to wait for Blake here.
"While Blake is in jail I’m still gonna have a good time - he can’t do much about it.
"But once he comes out we’ll be together again. There’s some nice lads here, I am just having fun. I don’t want anybody else because I’ve got my Blake." Fielder-Civil, who married the singer in Miami, Florida in 2007, was released from prison in November (08) after serving almost a year behind bars in relation to an attack on a pub landlord in 2006. But he was sent back to jail after less than a month for failing a mandatory drugs test which will see him forced to serve out the remainder of his sentence - meaning he could be incarcerated until early 2010.

PALTROW SLAMS WEBSITE CRITICS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:42 pm

Hollywood actress GWYNETH PALTROW has hit back at critics of her healthy living website - insisting her tips are extremely valuable.
Paltrow’s site GOOP.com - named after her initials - offers lifestyle lessons on subjects including health, travel and cookery.
But online message boards have been humming with angry responses from users claiming the site is nothing more than a vanity project.
However, the actress argues she is merely passing on good advice from her privileged lifestyle.
She says, "People get a hit of energy when they are negative and it is very detrimental for them. They do not understand why they do not have a happy life.
"That kind of stuff is just noise to me. I feel sorry for them." The star, married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, justifies the project by adding, "I have this incredible, lucky, unique life where I’ve gotten to travel all over the place and so I started to acquire all of this information. I thought this would be a fun, creative way to share it.
"I thought if I could affect one woman’s life positively, it was worth it."

FREEMAN’S MIXED PROM FILM TO PREMIERE AT SUNDANCE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:39 pm

MORGAN FREEMAN’s 11-year bid to integrate proms for black and white students at a school in his native Mississippi has been turned into a documentary, which will air at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah this weekend (17Jan09).
Freeman offered to pay for one mixed race prom at his local high school in Charleston after learning teachers still held separate end-of-year dances for black and white pupils. It took the school over 10 years to take him up on his offer.
Director Paul Saltzman’s Prom Night in Mississippi will compete as part of the world documentary competition at Sundance.
Freeman admits parents initially ignored his offer to integrate the event even though their kids loved the idea.
He says, "It’s kind of disheartening. In the little town we live in - this is a really small town - I don’t know how you can live in such a small place and try to be separate." Saltzman filmed Freeman as he made the initial pitch to the administration and then followed Freeman and the students as they prepared for the first mixed race prom.
The actor reveals the prom cost him about $17,000 (£11,300), which he calls "money very well spent".

CLOONEY WOWS DeGENERES WITH LONG OVERDUE APPEARANCE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:39 pm

GEORGE CLOONEY has made U.S. talk show host ELLEN DE GENERES’ dreams come true - by appearing on her show at long last.
The comedienne has led a lengthy campaign to get her Warner Bros. studio neighbour on her programme ever since she moved to the Burbank, California, lot last year (08).
Her techniques have included sending Kate Hudson, Dolly Parton, marching bands, sexy male strippers and hot models over to his production office. She even asked Clooney’s pal Brad Pitt for advice when he was a guest on her show late last year (08).
But Clooney was never in his office when either the comedienne or her guests called.
DeGeneres then installed a mousetrap-style device above the door of Clooney’s office, in the hopes of catching her man - and she created an alert system on her set, so she’d know whenever Clooney was in the building.
The alert went off in the middle of Friday’s (16Jan09) show as Clooney’s car pulled up outside.
And, after taking advice from Clooney’s former E.R. co-star Noah Wyle, DeGeneres arranged for Cincinnati Reds baseball icons Johnny Bench and Joe Morgan to lure the movie star into her studio.
Clooney taped his first appearance on the daytime show on Friday (16Jan09), and admitted he was starting to get a hard time from employees and Ellen fans for not showing up.
He says, "Informing is not what I would call what my office has been doing to me. (They’re) complaining. They were a little concerned when the marching band came.
"People do come up to me all the time and say, ‘What’s wrong with you, why don’t you go do Ellen’s show…?’ I’ve been busy." The actor admitted he’s been keeping check on the lengths DeGeneres has been going to to get him to appear, adding: "You gotta love Dolly Parton coming in." Clooney’s chat with DeGeneres and his meeting with Morgan and Bench will air on Monday (19Jan09).

JAMES’ FEARS FOR KIDS EATING HABITS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:36 pm

Burly funnyman KEVIN JAMES wants to raise his kids with a healthy attitude towards food - because his expanding waistline sets such a poor example.
James admits he’s struggling to rid himself of the pounds he’s packed on since becoming a stand-up comic.
And he fears his little girls, three-year-old Sienna-Marie and 19-month-old Shea, will follow in his un-fit footsteps.
He says, "The other day my wife (actress Steffiana De La Cruz) ran out and I had to feed the kids lunch. And the last thing she said to me before she left was, ‘Make sure they eat their vegetables.’ "I don’t know if I’m the best spokesperson for vegetable-eating. I don’t even know what to say to them. I literally was like, ‘You know what, you should eat your vegetables so you can grow up and (looks at stomach).’ "I do give them ice cream - the little one you can’t stop her from eating ice cream she loves it."

THOMPSON & POLITICIAN TRADE BLOWS IN AIRPORT ROW

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:36 pm

Oscar-winning actress EMMA THOMPSON has hit back at scathing remarks by a British politician, who criticised her protests against the expansion of London’s Heathrow Airport.
Transport minister Geoff Hoon singled out the Sense and Sensibility star for her outspoken views against controversial plans for a third runway at the site.
The star claims the project should be scrapped on environmental grounds.
Hoon tells British newspaper The Guardian, "She (Thompson) has been in some very good films. Love Actually is very good, but I worry about people who I assume travel by air quite a lot and don’t see the logic of their position, not least because the reason we have this problem in relation to Heathrow is that more and more people want to travel more and more.
"If someone living in L.A. says he does not think it was a good idea to expand Heathrow, well the last time I looked the only way to get from L.A. to Britain is Heathrow." But Thompson hit back at the minister, claiming he’d missed the point of her argument.
She says, "Get a grip Geoff. This is not a campaign against flying - we’re trying to stop the expansion of Heathrow in the face of climate change.
"It sounds like the transport secretary has completely missed the point.
Again." Earlier this week (begs11Jan09) protesters including Thompson, British comedian Alistair McGowan and planet-friendly group Greenpeace purchased a plot of land in the middle of the development site in a bid to halt the plans.

WILKINSON SORRY FOR HURTING HEFNER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:36 pm

HUGH HEFNER’s ex-girlfriend KENDRA WILKINSON has returned to her former Playboy Mansion home to apologise to the ageing magazine boss for talking about cheating on him during their romance.
The model was one of three Hefner girlfriends who ended their odd affair with the Playboy chief in 2008, and moved out of his California home.
But Wilkinson has returned after revealing she wasn’t faithful to the 82-year-old.
The 23-year-old blonde told Us Weekly magazine, "I had to have sex every now and then, so I had to kind of sneak it." And she also opened up about the private time she spent with Hefner, admitting, "Besides the nights we went out, I only saw Hef, like, once a day walking through the halls to his office… The most we kind of say to each other is, ‘I love you,’ ‘Love you too,’ ‘I hope you have a good day,’ ‘Did you have a good day?’" Wilkinson, who announced her split from Hefner last October (08) and is now engaged to American football star Hank Baskett, knew as soon as the interview was published she’d upset the publishing mogul and returned to the mansion to make amends.
She says, "I’m really bad at interviews, and anyone who knows me knew I meant no harm… I’m a goofball. Mostly, I’m very sorry to have hurt Hef.
"Hef was hurt, but he understands. He knows me and knows what came out of the article was not me at all."

SPACEY & DREYFUSS IN EARPIECE CONTROVERSY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:33 pm

KEVIN SPACEY is at the centre of controversy over his recently postponed London play - amid accusations the show’s star RICHARD DREYFUSS has to be fed his lines through an earpiece.
The premiere of the Spacey-directed Complicit was due to take place at the city’s Old Vic theatre, where the Hollywood star is artistic director, on Monday (19Jan09).
But opening night was pushed back until the following week (28Jan09) because the show needs "more development time", according to a spokesperson.
And now Jaws star Dreyfuss has been accused of failing to learn his lines properly and being told what to say on stage through an earpiece, according to British newspaper the Daily Telegraph.
Theatregoers, who were invited to preview performances of the show, have savaged Dreyfuss’ performance, with angry fans commenting online over his alleged decision to wear an earpiece.
One fan writes on theatre website Whatsonstage.com, "This is worse than awful and Dreyfuss is having his lines fed to him through an earpiece. You have been warned." In 2004 Dreyfuss was axed from the London production of The Producers before he started performances, with the 61-year-old actor claiming he was unable "to fulfil the rigours of the role" due to a shoulder injury. .
A spokesperson for Dreyfuss could not be reached for comment as WENN went to press.
