Folk legend DONOVAN was hailed as "a genuine poet" when he was honoured with a prestigious cultural award from leaders of the French government on Sunday (18Jan09).

"As Barack Obama has told us, we are not a collection of red states and blue states, we are the United States. We come here knowing that we are all in this together. Thank you." Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:51 am

Singer MARIAH CAREY is desperate to prove her acting critics wrong with an emotionally-wrenching role in new film PUSH after debuting the film at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah this weekend (17/18Jan09).
Carey was savaged by movie reviewers after making her acting debut in 2001’s Glitter, a major box office flop.

WINSLET SHUNS THE SPOTLIGHT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:50 am

British actress KATE WINSLET is determined to keep her private life out of the press - because she doesn’t want to become a "walking soap opera" like ANGELINA JOLIE and her partner BRAD PITT.
The Titanic star, who is married to director Sam Mendes, is adamant she only courts the media when she needs to help publicise her films and keeps herself away from the spotlight when she isn’t working.
And Winslet - who triumphed over Jolie in the best actress category at the recent Golden Globe Awards - is grateful her life hasn’t followed the same path of the Hollywood power couple, who attract unrivalled press attention wherever they go.
She says, "Although I don’t know them, I do think about their situation.
They’re like a walking soap opera, and the public wants to know what’s going to happen next. I didn’t choose this profession because I wanted to be famous." And Winslet is convinced she will be able to shield her two young children, Mia, eight, with ex-husband Jim Threapleton, and Joe, five, with Mendes, from the Hollywood scene.
She adds, "I don’t want Mia or Joe to think being famous is about wearing beautiful dresses - if you’re on a red carpet and wearing a fabulous frock, it’s the result of years of hard graft."

Fischer, who also stars in America’s The Office TV comedy, tells Self magazine, "Since we didn’t have to cook, it left time for hanky-panky! (It’s) the best invention since the microwave for busy women who want a home-cooked meal." Ironically, Fischer was given the slow cooker by Self magazine editors as part of a Get-Healthier-and-Happier Challenge article.

VEREEN SUED FOR $10 MILLION BY DAUGHTER’S EX-FIANCE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:45 am

Veteran actor BEN VEREEN has been hit with a $10 million (£6.7 million) lawsuit by his daughter’s ex-fiance, over a home the former couple once shared.
In the lawsuit filed last week (beg12Jan09), William McGlynn, 39, claims he proposed to Malaika Vereen with a $30,500 (£20,470) engagement ring in 2004 and spent over $250,500 (£168,120) on the entertainer’s daughter and grandson during their two-year courtship.
McGlynn alleges he made a $123,000 (£82,550) down payment on the $600,000 (£402,685) New Jersey home the couple shared, which was co-signed by Ben Vereen.
The former UPS (United Parcel Service) worker allegedly called off the wedding in 2005 and demanded to sell the home and be reimbursed for his down payment, when he learned his future father-in-law was the only name on the deed.
According to the New York Daily News, McGlynn is now demanding Vereen and his daughter return the ring, reimburse the money he put down on the house, and pay $5 million (£3.4 million) each in punitive damages.
McGlynn says, "(Vereen) said my word is my word, we don’t have to sign anything. He told me that everything would be okay… I tried reaching out to him… he said it’s out of his hands.
"Even if I don’t get the money back, I can let people know who these people are - to beware. Love is blind, I guess." A spokesperson for the actor tells the newspaper his client was shocked to learn of the suit.
Vereen’s daughter could not be reached as WENN went to press.

AUSTRALIAN SINGER SOPHINA PRAISES HERO PILOT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:45 am

Australian singer-songwriter EMMA SOPHINA has praised the hero pilot of US Airways Flight 1549 after a visit to New York left her narrowly escaping a terrifying plane crash.
Captain Chesley B. Sullenberger helped save the lives of 155 passengers and crew when he was forced to land on the Hudson River on Thursday (15Jan09) after a collision with a flock of geese upon departure from New York’s LaGuardia airport.
The 26-year-old tells the New York Daily News she had come to New York to find inspiration and was heading to Charlotte, North Carolina to visit friends.
But instead she found herself captured in photographs, escaping the submerged plane in a lifeboat.
Sophina tells the newspaper, "I heard a startling sound, a loud pop. Now I know that it was the sound of the birds hitting the plane.
"I thought, ‘OK, I’m going to heaven now. But then someone said we hit water.
"I grabbed a life jacket and made my way to the exit. The only way I can describe it is it was an orderly mess. A very orderly mess.
"God Bless Sully. If it wasn’t for the graceful Sully, I wouldn’t be here talking to you today. He gave us such a graceful landing under such terrible conditions. He is a real hero.
"I really do feel inspired. I’m going to write a song about this called, ‘My Life in the Bottom of the Hudson River.’"

MOSS ANGERS NEIGHBOURS WITH BIRTHDAY ANTICS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:39 am

Supermodel KATE MOSS did little to endear herself to her neighbours with a raucous 35th birthday party - police were called twice to her London home following complaints about the noise.
Following a private party with friends and rocker boyfriend Jamie Hince at London’s Dorchester Hotel on Thursday (15Jan09), Moss carried on celebrations with a medieval-themed party at her home in North London.
The party raged on into the early hours, with distressed neighbours also calling the council to complain.
One neighbour, a 51-year old foster caretaker, told British newspaper The Mail on Sunday that the supermodel’s party stopped her three young babies from sleeping - and it wasn’t the first time.
The neighbour says, "Several of us complained. It was just so uncomfortable.
It’s been like that since she moved here last summer; on and off. I had to take the kids to another bedroom because of the noise. I phoned the council to complain." But visits from the police and Camden Council anti-noise patrols didn’t deter the beauty and her celebrity mates, with another resident complaining that as soon as the council were out of sight the music was turned up again.
The resident says, "All my family were trying to sleep so I complained to the council. They turned up just before 1 a.m. but as soon as they left it went up again and went on until (I was) gone (at) 7 a.m."

Art mogul Jopling not only treated the singer to a luxury Caribbean holiday in St Barts during their fling, but also commissioned high-profile sculptor Marc Quinn to create a likeness of the star.
And Allen is hoping there are no hard feelings with Jopling because she is desperate to display the piece in her house.
She says, "I might have to wait until Jay’s got over things - then we can have a conversation. Maybe then he’ll organise it as I’m really keen… A Marc Quinn sculpture of me would be cool."

WINSLET’S AUNTIE JOY OVERSHADOWS AWARDS WIN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:36 am

KATE WINSLET’s double victory at the Golden Globes last week (11Jan09) was quickly overlooked by her family - after her sister gave birth to a baby girl.
The Titanic star scooped the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress gongs at the ceremony, for her roles in Revolutionary Road and The Reader respectively.
But Winslet’s win was overshadowed by her sister welcoming a little girl into the world.
And the actress, who is already an aunt to eight-year-old George, admits the awards are the last thing on her mind.
She tells WENN, "My sister just had a baby this week so my family have all been completely preoccupied with my sister’s little girl. It’s been great. I haven’t thought about it at all."
