WINSLET’S SHOCK AT SECOND GOLDEN GLOBE WIN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:27 pm

KATE WINSLET was convinced CAMERON DIAZ was joking when she announced she would take home her second Golden Globe at last week’s (11Jan09) ceremony.
The British beauty was overjoyed when she was handed the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in post-war drama The Reader early on in the night.
The star was sure her first win meant she would miss out on the Best Actress prize for her part in Revolutionary Road - so when the gong’s presenter Cameron Diaz looked in her direction, Winslet was certain she had made a mistake.
She tells British morning show GMTV, "I’m still getting over it. It was very overwhelming. I was so shocked because the thing is, you’re not supposed to get two (awards) - why on earth would you? "So when they gave me the award for The Reader I thought, ‘That’s amazing, fantastic, I’m happy, I can leave now’, and then when Cameron was opening that envelope she was looking towards our table and I was thinking, ‘Cameron, you’re looking in the wrong direction’ - because all the other nominees were to her left.
"I just couldn’t believe it, I thought, ‘Oh no, Cameron that’s an error’, and then she said my name! I was honestly the most floored I’ve ever been in my life, honestly I was." And the actress is still reeling after her double victory - but is just grateful she had a chance to pay tribute to her Revolutionary Road co-star, Leonardo DiCaprio, while on-stage.
Winslet adds, "I was bowled over. I said to Leo after winning for The Reader, ‘The only thing that’s a shame is I won’t be able to say anything about you and I hope you know this means a lot to me’. But I was able to say those things and it was a large outpouring!"

DOWNEY JR. GIVEN A RAISE ON SHERLOCK SET

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:24 pm

Filmmaker GUY RITCHIE has given ROBERT DOWNEY JR. a boost on the set of SHERLOCK HOLMES by reportedly forcing the actor to wear high heels.
The director has asked Downey Jr., who plays the iconic detective, to wear a pair of four-inch platforms in his shoes - in a bid to raise him up to co-star Jude Law’s level, reports British newspaper The Sun.
Ritchie has ruled that the actor must wear the lifts in every scene he shares with Law, who plays Holmes’ sidekick Dr Watson - so that the sleuths are the same height.
A source tells the tabloid, "Rob is stumbling around a lot and cursing Guy over the silly shoes."

CLEESE’S NEW LOVER TELLS NAKED TRUTH

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:24 pm

JOHN CLEESE’s younger lover was initially reluctant to sleep with the elderly comic - because she wasn’t sure what his naked body would look like.
Actress Barbie Orr, 27, met Cleese, 69, at an audition in October (08) while he was in the midst of divorcing his third wife Alyce Faye Eichelberger.
Orr worried she wouldn’t be attracted to the Fawlty Towers star in the bedroom - but she was won over because he was a "great kisser".
She says, "I kept picturing him naked. I wondered what someone that old looks like and would I actually sleep with them? For his birthday I was thinking about buying him a Zimmer frame (walking aid)." And Orr admits that she was surprised Cleese was in such good shape - "for an old guy".
She adds: "You know, they’re normally saggy down there, but he has a really nice package. He takes a lot of vitamin supplements and eats really well and he works out. His arms are really muscular and he still has amazing legs.
"He’s had his teeth redone and he recently got hair plugs to cover the bald patches at the front."

She says, "Nate physically has an uncanny resemblance to Robert. Some pictures are really eerie.
"Literally this week, after quite some time, we finalised the deal with the Mapplethorpe estate."

NEESON SUPPORTS HORSE-CARRIAGE INDUSTRY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:21 pm

LIAM NEESON has blasted a new bill aiming to ban the horse-drawn carriage industry in New York, insisting the iconic buggies are an "integral" part of city life.
The Irish-born actor, who now resides in the Big Apple, has written a letter to the City Council against the proposed movement, which would rid Central Park of its hansom cabs, reports the Irish Echo.
He writes, "As a horse lover and rider, I am deeply disturbed by the unnecessary and misguided political and extreme rhetoric against the horse-drawn carriage industry.
"As a proud New York resident, I have personally enjoyed the beauty of Central Park on a daily basis for many years, and these horses are an undeniable integral part of that experience." Neeson isn’t the only star to weigh in on the controversial matter - his fellow actor Alec Baldwin joined forces with activists People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in 2008 to promote their film Blinders, which documents the industry’s harmful effects on equines.
Pretenders singer Chrissie Hynde and pop star Pink have also loaned their star power to PETA’s campaign against the industry.
A legislation hearing is scheduled to be held on 30 January (09).

CLARKSON IN LOVE WITH EDITED CD COVER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:21 pm

Singer KELLY CLARKSON loves the retouched photo on the cover of her new album because it looks nothing like her.
The pop star showed fans the artwork for her record All I Ever Wanted on her internet blog and admitted the snap bears little likeness to her actual self.
But the American Idol winner isn’t complaining about the computer magic used to rework her image.
She writes: "We decided the cover of the album and just in case you haven’t seen it I’ll post it! It’s very colorful and they have definitely Photoshopped the crap out of me - but I don’t care, haha! "Whoever she is, she looks great, ha! I’ve had so much fun with this album; I really hope y’all dig it woohooooooooooo!!!!" FRANZ FERDINAND DITCH INDIE MUSIC

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:18 pm

Rockers FRANZ FERDINAND are so fed up with the indie music scene, they are giving up the genre altogether.
The Take Me Out hitmakers are preparing to release their third studio album Tonight: Franz Ferdinand later this month (Jan09) - four years after their last LP hit shelves.
The band has been experimenting with Jamaican dub and electronica during their hiatus - and they’re convinced their new effort will stun fans.
Frontman Alex Kapranos says, "I’m bored with guitar music. When we first appeared, there weren’t really any guitar bands, just formulaic pop music in the charts, but now there seems to be a degree of formulaic guitar bands around.
"That had an effect on us and we didn’t want to do that and we wanted to rebel against it and that’s why the record sounds the way it does. The technology we used was very different; we got into electronics and synthesisers." The rockers even recruited hit British girl group Girls Aloud for a collaboration in a bid to branch out.
Kapranos adds: "It was interesting to see how they worked."

STARR BACKTRACKS ON AUTOGRAPH BAN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:18 pm

RINGO STARR has handed out his autograph to one lucky fan - just three months after vowing he would never give away his signature again.
The former Beatle declared his plans to throw away requests for his signature in a video message on his website last year (08), because he didn’t have time to deal with the piles of letters he receives.
Since introducing the ban, Starr has also apparently stopped posting on the website.
But now the drummer has come out of his internet retirement, announcing that a fan known only as Ricardo has won a competition to receive the rocker’s autograph on a drum head.
And he is in a better mood after ringing in the New Year, writing: "I don’t feel blue any more. It’s 2009 and I feel fine." He adds: "Couldn’t get any better, could it? Peace and love to Ricardo, hope you have a great life. Peace and love everybody."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:42 am

BRITNEY SPEARS has reportedly been forced to rerecord her upcoming single IF YOU SEEK AMY after radio stations across the U.S. threatened to ban the song due to its controversial lyrics.
The Toxic hitmaker’s track features the chorus "All of the boys and all of the girls are beggin’ to, if you seek Amy" - with the last four words sounding like "F**k me" when sung quickly.

STREEP NEVER DOUBTED MAMMA MIA! SUCCESS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:39 am

MERYL STREEP always knew her film MAMMA MIA! would be a huge success - because it was a film that "neglected" female moviegoers could finally relate to.
The ABBA-themed musical was a box office smash around the globe in 2008, with estimated takings of $573 million (£385 million) worldwide.
But the movie’s success came as no surprise to Oscar winning actress Streep as it was aimed at a section of the cinema audience that had been largely forgotten about.
She says, "I know the studio is gobsmacked by its success and a lot of the critics have been surprised, but I wasn’t. It was a no brainer.
"I knew it would do well because it was aimed at an audience that has been neglected in recent years in film offerings: women. They are the last group anybody ever cares about."
