Medical drama ER has been given a lifeline as fans prepare for the show’s final episodes.
Executive producer John Wells is set to pull the life support system on the hit programme this spring (09), but he reveals the series could be saved.
Last year’s (08) Hollywood writer’s strike gave the drama a stay of execution, and ratings have been steady ever since it was announced the current season would be ER’s last.
And now Wells tells TV Guide magazine he’s had an offer to revive the series on a rival channel to NBC, which currently broadcasts the weekly show.
Wells, who has already started work on dismantling ER’s sets, admits a move to the ABC network is unlikely, but states, "Never say never." And whatever happens, the planned finale will go ahead - and feature ER stars past and present.
He adds, "I’ve been crafting an ending for two years."

Rockers NO DOUBT will hit the road after a five-year break for dates in North America this May (09).
The group reunited last year (08) to start work on new material and tentative dates were set for the spring.
But fans will have to wait to see Gwen Stefani back with her old bandmates.
In a post on the group’s website, the band confirms a summer tour, with dates to be announced.
Stefani says she cannot wait: "The whole reason for going on this tour was to have fun, try on all our favourite songs again and to get inspired to make new music. It feels good to be all together again." Pop punks Paramore will reportedly support No Doubt on the road.

Rapper HEAVY D has gone back to his Jamaican roots to record a reggae album.
The heavyweight star quietly released the album Vibes last year on iTunes and the success from downloads has prompted Heavy D to put it out as a CD too.
Reggae legends Barrington Levy and Sizzla join him on the album.

PEARL JAM star EDDIE VEDDER stunned BARACK OBAMA fans at an Inauguration Day party in Seattle, Washington on Tuesday night (20Jan09) when he stepped up onstage to perform with punk icons JOHN DOE and EXENE CERVENKA.
Vedder and bandmates Jeff Ament and Mike McCready had managed to blend in with the crowd at the packed Tractor Tavern club when Doe called the Alive singer up onstage.
Keeping a low profile in a black hat, he duetted with Cervenka on a rendition of X’s fan favourite The New World, and then used Doe’s torso as a drum for another tune.
As he left the stage, Doe joked, "Thank you, man in the black hat."

Former PIXIES star BLACK FRANCIS has formed a new group with his wife, VIOLET CLARK.
The new group, Grand Duchy, will release a debut album, entitled Petits Fours, in April (09).
Francis, aka Frank Black, admits the project has been a long time coming: "Once upon a time, Violet and I went into the studio together for a day as an experiment, and we came out that night with (the track) Fort Wayne
. A leaked version seemed to please others, and so we decided to continue the experiment." But husband and wife haven’t always been a dream duo in the studio.
Francis adds, "Our second recording session involved a fair amount of shouting and throwing things, much to the horror, I’m sure, of our two engineers..
. A band truce developed and over time we threw less objects and began to enjoy our creative tension." The Debaser singer hopes the success of Grand Duchy will help him buy a home in Luxembourg for his family.
He explains, "We decided during a drive to the studio that we would take any proceeds and make a down payment on a house in Luxembourg for some strange reason..
. I guess that’s where the name Grand Duchy came from.
"Maybe that’s where we will come from one day - the crossroads of Europe.
Near to here and there, but far from (current home) Oregon
. Cold, gray Oregon.
"We just want a little place on the river, in the ravine, in the trees, in the stars."

Newly single singer KATY PERRY has vowed to remain celibate in 2009, following her split from rocker boyfriend TRAVIS McCOY.
The pair ended its year-long romance over the New Year, and the I Kissed a Girl hitmaker has no plans to find new love.

R&B star BRANDY has turned her back on Scientology after turning to the controversial religion following her fatal car crash in December 2006.
The singer was eventually cleared of wrongdoing a year after the freeway pile-up, which claimed the life of a fellow motorist, but she admits the accident left her seeking spiritual help.
And when one friend suggested she look into Scientology, Brandy considered joining the faith, which boasts Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Lisa-Marie Presley among it’s high-profile members.
She says, "Someone said, ‘There’re these classes that you can take that can better you as a person.’ "I’m like, ‘OK, I’ll go check it out, but that’s all I did, go check it out.

Hollywood star SHARON STONE got her American history wrong while addressing an gala in honour of new U.S. President BARACK OBAMA in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday (20Jan09).
The actress was the guest speaker at a party hosted by Edward Rendell, the governor of her home state of Pennsylvania.
But she was left red-faced after taking to the stage and claiming the state’s most historical monument, the Liberty Bell, was "brought back to America".
Stone said, "We’re gonna ring that liberty bell that we brought with us here to America. We’re gonna make the American Dream into an American reality." The bell was in fact shipped to its home in Philadelphia in the 1750s, when Pennsylvania was still a British colony - and members of the governor’s entourage informed an embarrassed Stone about her mistake after she stepped down from the podium.
During her speech, the star also talked about her tough upbringing, telling guests, "My mother stood in those queues outside church kitchens. I never had enough clothes. I didn’t just have hand me downs, I had hand me ups from my younger brothers."

British pop star LILY ALLEN will only date men over the age of 40 - because they make her "feel better" about herself.
The 23-year-old recently split from 45-year-old art dealer, Jay Jopling, and has also dated Chemical Brothers star, Ed Simons, 38.
And Allen is adamant she would never be interested in men her own age.
She says, "They (older men) make me feel better about myself because I can talk to them about things and they talk back.
"I don’t think I’d go out with anyone under 40. I just like older men. I suppose I like guys that know where they’re going and what they’re doing." But the singer admits there are some disadvantages when choosing an older partner.
She adds, "They probably don’t fall in love as easily as I do. When I get into a relationship I get quite consumed by them. For guys that are older, relationships aren’t usually top of their list. It’s work first."

LORD OF THE RINGS star ANDY SERKIS has signed up to play British punk legend IAN DURY in a biopic of the late BLOCKHEADS frontman.
The actor - who played Gollum in the fantasy trilogy and King Kong in the recent big screen remake - has confirmed he is learning his lines and preparing for filming to start in April (09).
Serkis tells Cinema Blend, "I’m actually doing a film about the life of Ian Dury … He’s an amazing character, a real poet … And he was a polio sufferer, so he basically didn’t have much use of his left leg or his left arm.
He was one of the first disabled punk rockers ever. I’m really looking forward to that".
It’s not the first biopic the Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick rocker has inspired - a musical, Hit Me: The Life And Rhymes Of Ian Dury, is currently running in London.
Dury died in 2000 at the age of 57.

The ex-wife of a deceased heir to fashion giant GUCCI has been accused of using her former husband’s name to make money on her own line of non-luxury products.
In documents filed in Manhattan Federal Court this week (beg19Jan09), executives at Gucci America claim Paolo Gucci’s former wife of 14 years, Jennifer, and her daughter, Gemma, have been selling skin care products, bedding and linens using the family name without its trademark.
The suit also accuses Jennifer Gucci’s attorney, Edward Litwak, of attempting to sell non-existent licensing deals for the products.
Documents acquired by the New York Daily News read: "It should be clear to this court by now that Litwak is, plainly and simply, a con man.
"He has bilked numerous unsuspecting individuals into giving him hundreds of thousands of dollars in exchange for licenses to use the name(s) Jennifer Gucci and Gemma Gucci." Jennifer Gucci, a 51-year-old former opera singer, has denied the allegations.
Litwak reportedly admits licensing agreements were discussed, though no deals were finalised.

Legendary actress ZSA ZSA GABOR is facing ruin after falling victim to U.S.
fraudster BERNARD MADOFF.
Financier Madoff was arrested last month (Dec08) accused of siphoning billions of dollars from his wealthy clients.
A number of stars have been affected by the scandal, including Kevin Bacon and Steven Spielberg.
And now Gabor, 91, and her ninth husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, have revealed Madoff’s scam has also cost them millions.
Von Anhalt tells the National Enquirer, "We’re mad as hell. We want our money back. We might be forced to sell our Bel Air home, cars, artwork and even our jewellery because of this sick man.
"This scam artist should be dragged through the streets and flogged." Anhalt is accepting the blame - because he convinced his wife of 23 years to pump her fortunes into Madoff’s funds.
He adds, "I feel really bad, because Zsa Zsa shouldn’t have to worry about the financial mess I’ve gotten us into. We are taking legal action to recoup some of the money. I’m going to have to make back that money somehow, or we’re going to face financial ruin."

U.S. Senator EDWARD KENNEDY has been released from hospital after suffering a seizure during an inauguration luncheon for new President BARACK OBAMA.
Paramedics were called to Washington D.C.’s Statuary Hall at on Tuesday (20Jan09) afternoon after the 75-year-old collapsed during the meal, which followed Obama’s inauguration as the 44th leader of the USA.
Kennedy’s office has confirmed the politician - whose brother was 35th President John F. Kennedy - was released from Washington Hospital Center on Wednesday (21Jan09).
A spokesperson for the Massachusetts Senator says he is in good spirits and has been urged by doctors to rest, blaming the seizure on his fatigue.
Kennedy underwent surgery after doctors diagnosed him with brain cancer in May (08), and has since returned to his Senate seat.
He last suffered a seizure in September (08) which culminated in a brief hospital stay in Massachusetts.

RENEE ZELLWEGER has sparked reports of a new romance with an American TV personality - three years after splitting from country singer KENNY CHESNEY.
The 39-year-old actress annulled her four-month long marriage to Chesney in 2005, and insisted in recent interviews she has been too busy with her career to find time for a new relationship.
Zellweger has now been linked to MSNBC legal correspondent Dan Abrams, after they were spotted enjoying a romantic dinner at the American Hotel in Sag Harbor, New York on Saturday (17Jan09), according to the New York Post.
Zellweger told Marie Claire earlier this month (Jan09): "The thing is, I’m away all the time. I suppose if I sat still long enough to get to know somebody beyond a dinner date, maybe. But I don’t feel like my life is empty or that I have to make something happen. I have projects to develop."

Teen pop heart-throbs THE JONAS BROTHERS made a special visit to the White House on inauguration day, as a scavenger hunt prize for President BARACK OBAMA’s daughters.

GARY BARLOW was treated like a "leper" after his solo career flopped.
The singer songwriter branched out on his own after boyband Take That split in 1996. His first solo album was a success, but subsequent releases failed in the charts and Barlow was dropped by his record label in 1999.
The 38-year-old complains the worst aspect of his failure, was the way he was treated by others in the music industry.
He says, "Nobody wants anything to do with (you) whatsoever - it’s like having leprosy. Nobody wants any connection with you whatsoever".
Barlow is now back on top with the reformed Take That, and insists he is far better prepared for the pitfalls of fame.

Singer BEYONCE fought back tears as she sang for new U.S. President BARACK OBAMA - calling the experience "the most important day" of her life.
The R&B star was one of the headline acts to appear at the politician’s Neighborhood Ball celebration following his official inauguration ceremony in Washington, D.C, on Tuesday (20Jan09).
And following performances from musicians including will.i.am and Stevie Wonder, Beyonce was chosen to sing as Obama and his wife, Michelle, began their first dance as President and First Lady.
The star was visibly moved during her rendition of Etta James’ At Last and came close to breaking down - because she was so proud of her country for electing an African-American leader.
She tells Good Morning America, "I can’t even describe to you how I felt. I’m actually right now fighting back tears because it’s just so emotional. I’m just so proud of my country. This man was born for this. And he was born to lead us, and I just feel so inspired and so proud. I’m sorry, I’m so embarrassed. I’m just so lucky to be a part of this history. It’s probably the most important day of my life, and I’m so grateful." The superstar, who supported Obama throughout his campaign, admits the Democrat succeeded in sharpening her interest in politics.
She adds, "Honestly, of course, I’ve voted before, but I’ve never really watched the ceremonies. This is my first time being a part of it, and I’m here, and I’m singing … I’m so overwhelmed, you know. I have chills. He makes me want to be smarter; he makes me want to be more involved."

Pop star PINK has reportedly rekindled her romance with ex-husband CAREY HART one year after their split.
The couple parted ways last February (08) after two years of marriage and the singer subsequently admitted harbouring feelings for her former partner.
Hart and Pink - real name Alecia Moore - sparked reports of a reconciliation after they were caught in a public kiss on New Year’s Eve (08-09).
