ARCADE FIRE SLAM ‘HORRIFYING’ GRAMMYS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:18 pm

Canadian rockers ARCADE FIRE are pleased they don’t have to attend this year’s (09) Grammy Awards - because they find the prizegiving a "horrifying experience".
The band was nominated at the ceremony in 2006 and 2008 but missed out on the 2009 shortlist.
And frontman Win Butler is relieved, insisting he hates the Los Angeles-based event because the catering facilities do not live up to his standards.
Butler claims the all-day ceremony leaves the bandmembers tired and hungry - so they would rather not go.
He says, "We went to the Grammys and it was so s**t. You go to this venue, like a conference centre, at about 10 in the morning, and it’s totally dry - no food, water, alcohol.
"Then, it’s two in the afternoon and we haven’t eaten. No one’s eaten all day, and there are people in tuxedos offering $70 (£50) for a hotdog. It’s a total crush of humanity trying to get hotdogs. It was a horrifying experience."

GALLAGHER ESCAPED LIFE OF CRIME

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:18 pm

OASIS star NOEL GALLAGHER credits the band’s success with helping him escape a life of crime - because he would have become a thief if his musical ambitions had failed.
The guitarist, who was brought up in the poverty-stricken Manchester, England, suburb of Burnage, eked out a living as a construction worker before teaming up with his younger brother Liam in 1991 to form the band that would eventually become Oasis.
The rockers landed a record deal in 1993 and shot to fame a year later with the release of their debut album Definitely Maybe.
And Gallagher admits that it would have been easy for him to slip into stealing and drug-dealing if he had stayed in his home town.
He tells Total Guitar magazine, "All the lads on the council estate I grew up with, apart from the ones that have settled down and have kids, they’re all still drug-dealing, going out being f***ing idiots.
“So, let’s put it this way, there’s one less criminal in Burnage because I picked up the guitar. There’s one less shoplifter in Manchester.”

ASHLEE SIMPSON: ‘STOP CRITICISING JESSICA’S WEIGHT’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:18 pm

Singer ASHLEE SIMPSON has leapt to the defence of her elder sister JESSICA, branding reports criticising her weight "embarrassing and belittling".
The Dukes Of Hazzard star has been pictured with a fuller figure of late, prompting some media outlets to speculate she is expecting a baby with American footballer boyfriend Tony Romo.
But sister Ashlee has taken offence to the reports - because she is sick of celebrities’ weight dominating the news agenda while Americans celebrate their new President Barack Obama.
She writes on her blog, "I am completely disgusted by the headlines concerning my sister’s weight. A week after the inauguration and with such a feeling of hope in the air for our country, I find it completely embarrassing and belittling to all women to read about a woman’s weight or figure as a headline on Fox News.
"All women come in different shapes, sizes, and forms and just because you’re a celebrity, there shouldn’t be a different standard. Is this something you would say to your wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, or even a friend? I seriously doubt it.
"How can we expect teenage girls to love and respect themselves in an environment where we criticize a size 2 figure? Now can we focus on the things that really matter." And Jessica Simpson’s former personal trainer insists the star is perfectly healthy and has the right attitude towards her figure.
Harley Pasternak tells Extra, "She has curves where a woman needs to have curves. We all go a little bit up and a little bit down. But she’s healthy. She’s still sexy. She’s still a beautiful woman. And I have no problem with the way she looks.
"I think if more people looked the way she looks now, the country would be a lot healthier. I think Jessica has a really healthy perspective on her healthy body image and looks like a woman. I would take her body any day over somebody who’s emaciated and looks unhealthy."

WINSLET’S KIDS BAFFLED BY HER GERMAN ACCENT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:12 am

Actress KATE WINSLET upset her children while she was practising for new movie THE READER - by reading them bedtime stories in a German accent.
The British star has won a Golden Globe award and an Oscar nomination for her role as a Nazi concentration camp guard in the film.
And Winslet decided to perfect her accent for the film by using it in her everyday life.
But her bizarre antics baffled her two children, Mia, eight, by ex-husband Jim Threapleton, and Joe, five, with current partner Sam Mendes.
Winslet says, "They got mightily fed up with me reading bedtime stories with a German accent. They said, ‘Mum, just be plain. Don’t do any funny stuff like voices. Just be regular.’ Then I had to say, ‘But, I’m not regular and I’m never going to be regular. When you’re a teenager you’re going to know that it’s cool.’"

WINEHOUSE HEADING BACK TO THE STUDIO

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:10 am

AMY WINEHOUSE is reportedly set to go back to work to record new material following an extended holiday in the Caribbean.
The singer has been enjoying a sunshine break in St. Lucia since December (08) following numerous health problems throughout 2008, which included a stint in rehab and several prolonged stays in hospital.
The star’s recent attempts to create a follow-up to her global smash hit Back To Black were reportedly shelved amid fears for the star’s health, with superproducer Mark Ronson claiming their attempt to record a Bond theme last summer (08) was scrapped because Winehouse was "not ready to work on music yet".
But Winehouse - who was recently visited by Universal Records commercial director Brian Rose - is now planning to fly back to the U.K. to begin work on a new album.
A source tells British newspaper the Daily Express, "Amy has been calling industry colleagues and telling them to start preparing because she’s back. She’s singing new material over the phone to them and telling them to get working on it. She desperately wants to re-establish herself as a serious musician." While a close pal of the singer tells the publication, "Amy is definitely getting back to work. Her manager was in St. Lucia over the weekend talking to her about organising studio time and putting together her band. She’s got a lot of songs written."

50 CENT: ‘NAS’ CAREER IS OVER’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:09 am

50 CENT no longer considers rap veteran NAS among his chart competitors - insisting the I CAN hitmaker’s career is "finished".
The In Da Club star, real name Curtis Jackson, was recently criticised by Nas on the track Queens Get the Money, from his self-titled 2008 album.
But 50 Cent has refused to be drawn into a lyrical battle with Nas - claiming he hasn’t even heard the song because it’s too far below his radar.
He tells XXL magazine, "Nas is cold as ice. Nas is the block of ice that sunk the Titanic… I didn’t even hear his record. I didn’t even hear what you talking about…
"I really don’t want to talk about Nas. I think he’s at one of those points to where his career’s finished, to be honest.
"He’s had some great moments and made good music in the past, but he no longer has the interest of the general public or myself."

ALLEN’S SECRET LOVERS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:09 am

British pop star LILY ALLEN likes to keep her lovers behind closed doors - because the press constantly link her to whoever she steps out with.
The Smile hitmaker recently split from 45-year-old art dealer Jay Jopling and has also dated Chemical Brothers star Ed Simons.
But Allen is wary of being spotted in public with any potential new suitors, preferring to keep them hidden away for her own pleasure.
She says, "A couple of times I’ve met someone, had a great time in my house with them, watching TV and shagging (having sex). Then I’m like ‘I don’t want to leave the house with you to have to justify our relationship.’"

MCCARTNEY OPENS UP ABOUT ‘DARK’ DIVORCE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:06 am

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY has finally spoken about his split from HEATHER MILLS - insisting their divorce battle left him in a "dark place".
McCartney and Mills parted ways in May 2006 after four years of marriage and their subsequent divorce turned nasty with Mills falsely accusing the star of being an abusive husband and a drunk.
The judge overseeing the case awarded Mills a $36.3 million (£25 million) settlement but later slammed her evidence as "unreliable" and accused the 40-year-old of indulging in "make-belief".
The former Beatle insists he has maintained a "dignified" silence about the end of his marriage, but has now spoken about his decision to keep his emotions private.
He says, "I’ve been through a dark place. I am a man who needs love. Every man needs love, guys like romance. I do anyway.
“Things don’t always work out but I like the idea of being dignified. I don’t think it helps to mouth off all the time.” The former couple share a four-year-old daughter, Beatrice. McCartney is now dating American socialite Nancy Shevell.

The singer tells the camera, "You’re a man of strength, charisma, girth, honour, girth… and influence.
"You know like that guy in the movie the Curious Case of Benjamin Brat, Benjamin Brat, the older you get, the younger you get and right before you die a little tiny-man baby you’re gonna discover the ability to time travel into volcanoes.

HILTON TURNED DOWN DATING SHOWS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:06 am

Socialite PARIS HILTON has turned down the chance to use a reality TV show to find a new boyfriend.
Hilton split up with longterm love Benji Madden in November (08) and has been single ever since.
She recently completed two seasons of her new reality show, which sees her searching for a new best friend in both America and Britain.
But the socialite is adamant that she won’t be using a TV series to fix her love life - because she prefers to leave it to chance.
She says, "I’ve been offered to do one of those dating shows and I don’t like that idea, I thought it would be much better to find a friend rather than a lover. That’s actually how I come up with the concept of the show."

X-FILES DIRECTOR MANNERS DIES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:00 am

Longtime THE X-FILES director/producer KIM MANNERS has lost his battle with lung cancer. He was 59.
Manners passed away on Sunday (25Jan09) at the Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles following a long struggle with the deadly disease.
He was best known for his work on sci-fi series The X-Files, for which he won four Emmy Award nominations, and his stint on U.S. TV series Supernatural.
Manners began his career as a director on 1970s show Charlie’s Angels. He went on to helm a variety of TV classics including 21 Jump Street and Mission: Impossible, as well as Star Trek: The Next Generation.
X-Files writer Frank Spotnitz has paid tribute to his late colleague, writing on his official web blog: "Kim had a blazing intensity that inspired everyone - writers, producers, actors and crew. As long as he’d been a director, he never lost his passion for his work. Every time he got a script, he gave it his all. He was driven to execute what he saw in his mind’s eye in the most powerful and beautiful way he could. Kim was an incredible force of life. It is hard for me to believe or accept that he is gone." Supernatural creator and executive producer Eric Kripke adds: "Everyone at Supernatural is walking around in a daze, shocked and absolutely devastated. Kim was a brilliant director; more than that, he was a mentor and friend. He was one of the patriarchs of the family, and we miss him desperately. SLUMDOG BOSSES DEFEND INDIAN ACTORS’ PAY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:00 am

Movie executives behind SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE have been forced to defend the low wages paid to the young Indian actors in the critically acclaimed film - following criticism from the children’s parents.
Officials at Fox Searchlight have come under fire from relatives of Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismail, who played Latika and Salim in the early scenes of the film, who have accused filmmakers of underpaying the youngsters.
Ali received $725 (£500) for a year’s work while Azharuddin received $2,465 (£1,700).
Azharuddin’s home in the slums of Mumbai, close to where the film was shot, was demolished by the local authorities during filming and he now sleeps under a sheet of plastic tarpaulin with his father, who suffers from tuberculosis.
Azharuddin’s father, Mohammed Ismail, says, "There is none of the money left. It was all spent on medicines to help me fight TB. We feel that the kids have been left behind by the film. They have told us there is a trust fund but we know nothing about it and have no guarantees.” But movie bosses have come to the defence of the picture, which is expected to make hundreds of millions of dollars at the international box office.
A statement from Fox Searchlight reads, "The welfare of Azhar and Rubnia has always been a top priority for everyone involved with Slumdog Millionaire. A plan has been in place for over 12 months to ensure that their experience working on Slumdog Millionaire would be of long term benefit. For 30 days work, the children were paid three times the average local annual adult salary. Last year after completing filming, they were enrolled in school for the first time and a fund was established for their future welfare, which they will receive if they are still in school when they turn 18.
"Due to the exposure and potential jeopardy created by the unwarranted press attention, we are looking into additional measures to protect Azhar and Rubina and their families. We are extremely proud of this film, and proud of the way our child actors have been treated." While director Danny Boyle adds in a joint statement with producer Christian Colson, "We paid painstaking and considered attention to how Azhar and Rubina’s involvement in the film could be of lasting benefit to them over and above the payment they received for their work. Since June 2008 and at our expense, both kids have been attending school and they are flourishing under the tutelage of their dedicated and committed teachers. We were delighted to see them progressing well when we visited their school and met with their teachers last week.”

He tells Blender magazine, "Sometimes I think Ashlee and I should do Newlyweds 2, take that f**k-you money and move to an island somewhere. Just disappear." But Wentz admits he could never disappear for real "partly because I’d be f**king over a lot of people (and) I’d probably miss the lights too much."

HAMILTON PASSED PUSSYCAT DOLLS TEST

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:57 am

Girlgroup PUSSYCAT DOLLS thoroughly interrogated racing driver LEWIS HAMILTON before giving him permission to date their lead singer NICOLE SCHERZINGER.
The sexy star began dating the British sportsman after they met in 2007, but Scherzinger’s bandmates had to make sure the Formula One champion was good enough for their pal before they gave the relationship the green light.
Melody Thornton says, "When we found out Lewis was a racing driver, we were like, ‘Hold on a minute, he’d better not be a playboy.’ "So we asked him all sorts. What were his intentions, if he was a nice guy, did he know how to treat her right, did he bring her flowers and pull out chairs on dates? We didn’t mess about and gave him a tough time as we do with all new boyfriends. We are very protective of each other - especially when a new guy comes into the fold."

The group disbanded in 1996, following the departure of Robbie Williams a year previously.

He tells British magazine Q, "I didn’t want us to split … I was p**sed off.
