CHAN GOES GREEN WITH MINIMAL FLUSHES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:24 pm

Actor JACKIE CHAN urges the cast and crew on his film sets to conserve water - by flushing the toilet just once at the end of the day.
The action star is intent on using his fame to encourage fans to help protect the environment and conserve water.
And he even asks colleagues on film sets to join him in partaking in his eco-friendly methods.
Speaking at a Go Green initiative for Segway (two-wheeled transporter) in Singapore, the star says, "Do you know how much water we waste when each of us visits the washroom twice a day? "When I go to the washroom, I will ask who is going after me; we’ll flush the toilet bowl when the last person is done. I am doing this for the environment." And the Rush Hour star even tries to minimise his impact on the earth while travelling: "I usually stay in the presidential suite whenever I travel; however, I will wash my own undergarments and socks everyday when I return to my room. I will also inform the chamber maids that they do not have to change my bed sheets and towels everyday. Once I un-wrap the soap which the hotels provide, I will carry it along with me until I finish using it."

SCOTT BROTHERS TO MAKE A-TEAM MOVIE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:21 pm

Filmmaker brothers RIDLEY and TONY SCOTT are teaming up to take hit TV show THE A-TEAM to the big screen.
The long-rumoured big screen adaptation will hit movie theatres in 2010, produced by the British duo and directed by Joe Carnahan.
The project was thrown into disarray in October (08) when John Singleton quit the project.
But Carnahan is determined to breathe new life into the movie, about four Vietnam veterans who are wrongly convicted of armed robbery and escape military prison to become mercenary ‘do-gooders’.
The Smokin’ Aces director reveals his vision to Daily Variety: "This was a coveted property, and re-imagining a show that I remembered as a kid was tough to turn down.
"Fox (Studios) hired me to make it as emotional, real and accessible as possible without cheesing it up.
"You can make a film that reflects on the real world without losing the sense of fun, and the velocity of action in a classic summer popcorn film. Having Ridley and Tony on board lends considerable weight to that and classes up the whole project."

ZAPPA’S WIDOW LOSES FESTIVAL BATTLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:18 pm

FRANK ZAPPA’s widow has lost her legal battle against a German festival named after the late rocker.
Gail Zappa and her family trust challenged organisers of the Zappanale Festival, which takes place annually in the town of Bad Doberan, demanding they change the name and remove a bronze sculpture of Zappa from the town.
But a Dusseldorf court has thrown the case out and dismissed Gail Zappa’s bid for 250,000 Euros ($331,000/£236,000) in damages.
Her case was weakened when the court established she could not prove she had used her late husband’s name in Germany, and that she knew about the festival as far back as 1990, when Zappa was still alive - yet only took action in 2008.
Festival organiser and Frank Zappa Fan Club boss Thomas Dippel says, "We have always been certain that we have the older rights. We have also patented the name of the festival with the German patent office. Gail Zappa only applied for the patent of her own rights in 2002." Frank Zappa died from prostate cancer in 1993, aged just 52.

BOB DYLAN has given the green light for a U.K. corporation to use his iconic track BLOWIN’ IN THE WIND in a national advertising campaign.

It will be the first occasion the musician has given permission for his song to be used by British advertisers.
The singer and poet gave the deal the thumbs-up because the company - which includes supermarkets, funeral homes and banking services - operates according to fair trade and ethical guidelines.
Dylan has previously allowed a selection of his tracks to be used in U.S. adverts, including campaigns for Cadillac, Apple and lingerie brand Victoria’s Secret.

ROGEN: ‘THE GREEN HORNET STILL HAS GREEN LIGHT’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:24 pm

Funnyman SETH ROGEN has blasted reports his forthcoming comic book movie THE GREEN HORNET is headed for the scrap heap.
After years of development and numerous names touted to helm and star in the project, the new incarnation of masked crime-fighter the Green Hornet was unveiled last year (08), with Rogen attached as lead actor and Stephen Chow signed to direct and star as sidekick Kato.
Hollywood insiders claimed the film would be cancelled after Chow resigned from his role as director, and producers failed to find a replacement.
But Rogen is adamant the project is still going ahead, confirming the adaptation of the Bruce Lee-starring TV series should hit theatres by 2010.
He writes in an email to website HitFix.com: "The Green Hornet has many people working for it, including production designers, costume designers and many conceptual artists, office staff, etc.
"(The studio heads) have every intention on making it, and assuming we’re able to hire a new director in the upcoming weeks, which seems like a distinct possibility, it should still hit the release date."

ACADEMY ALLOWS THE READER’S FOUR PRODUCERS IN OSCAR RACE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:24 pm

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is bending its rules to allow THE READER’s four producers - including late filmmakers Anthony Minghella and Sydney Pollack - to contend for a Best Picture Oscar.
The Kate Winslet movie, nominated for five Oscars this year (09), was the final project for Pollack and Minghella, who both died before the film wrapped.
But when the nominations were announced last Thursday (22Jan), the Best Picture ballot read "to be determined" in place of a list of the film’s four producers - because the Academy doesn’t recognise more than three per film for the gong, after a crew of producers crowded the stage when Shakespeare in Love won in 1998.
After protests over the exclusion of producers from 2006’s Little Miss Sunshine, the organisation revised the restriction to allow more than three producers under "a rare and extraordinary circumstance".
And after a meeting the executive committee decided that The Reader’s Minghella and Pollack will be eligible for the honour, alongside Donna Gigliotti and Redmond Morris.
The Academy says in a statement released Tuesday (27Jan09): "In the end, the committee determined that the circumstances of ‘The Reader’ - in which the two original producers (Minghella and Pollack) both died partway through the process - met its definition of ‘rare and extraordinary’ and that all four submitted individuals should be named as nominees." Minghella died in March (08) following an operation on his neck, while Pollack passed away in May (08) after a short battle with stomach cancer.

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE SET FOR POLICE INVESTIGATION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:21 pm

Oscar-nominated movie SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE is set to be investigated by police in India, after authorities received a complaint claiming the film incited hatred against people living in slums.
The Golden Globe award-winning film, about a boy who grows up in poverty and goes on to win a gameshow, has attracted a growing amount of criticism in the country in which it is based due to its controversial name.
Campaigners claim the use of the word ‘dog’ is insulting to people who live in slums similar to those portrayed in the movie.
Social activist Nicholas Almeida’s complaint stated the Danny Boyle-directed movie was "defamatory" and "completely against society", and accused the film of "creating hatred among poor slum dwellers in the minds of the established and capitalist people." And now police are to probe deeper into the matter.
Mumbai magistrates have issued notices to Boyle, the movie’s producer Christian Colson, and distributors Warner Bros. informing them of the investigation, which will try to establish whether the film "hurts the sentiments of slum-dwellers".
It comes as hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets in the east of the country in fury over the film’s name.
Posters for the movie have been torn down in the state of Bihar, and campaigners are threatening to burn effigies of Boyle.
And Tateshwar Vishwakarma, who is leading the protests outside cinemas, has also filed a complaint against the movie, which will be heard in a Patna, Bihar court on 5 February (09).
Those offended have said they will not stop their demonstrations until the film’s title is changed.
Meanwhile, armed guards have been deployed to protect cinema-goers.
Vishwakarma says, "Referring to people living in slums as dogs is a violation of human rights. We will burn Danny Boyle effigies in 56 slums here."
