COLLINS PAYS TRIBUTE TO MARTYN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:54 am

Former GENESIS star PHIL COLLINS has paid tribute to singer-songwriter JOHN MARTYN, who died on Thursday (29Jan09).
Martyn, who released 20 studio albums during his 40-year music career, passed away in an Irish hospital at the age of 60.
And Collins, who featured on the star’s 1980 album Grace and Danger, has given an emotional statement about the loss of his close friend.
He says, "He was uncompromising, which made him infuriating to some people, but he was unique and we’ll never see the likes of him again. I loved him dearly and will miss him very much." Martyn launched his career in 1967 with critically acclaimed debut album London Conversation. He went on to work with musical greats including Eric Clapton and David Gilmour.
He suffered a string of health problems in recent years, and, in 2003, had a leg amputated below the knee because of a burst cyst.
Martyn continued to perform up until last year (08) and was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2009 New Year Honours list at the end of last month (Dec08).
