FUQUA GIVING DISADVANTAGED YOUTHS A HELPING HAND
Director ANTOINE FUQUA has set up a film foundation in a bid to find the next STEVEN SPIELBERG.
The Training Day filmmaker came up with the idea to lend a helping hand to disadvantaged American youths during shooting for gritty new cop movie Brooklyn’s Finest.
He says, "One day I’m walking ’round the set of Brooklyn’s Finest, and I had about 150 kids around me." So he enlisted the help of producer pal John Langley to set up the Fuqua Film Foundation, which challenges teens to write essays detailing why they want to make movies.
And Fuqua’s confident he will discover the next great moviemaker in the inner cities: "I do believe that’s where the next Spielbergs are going to come from."
