SIR PAUL McCARTNEY has dubbed former BEATLES bandmate RINGO STARR "ballsy" for refusing to sign autographs and returning fanmail.
The drummer sparked outrage amongst his supporters last year (08) when he posted a video on the site asking them to stop sending requests for signatures.
But McCartney insists Starr has earned the right to choose how he spends his time.
The rocker says, "I love him, he’s so ballsy. If he doesn’t want to spend his day writing to people, he’s allowed. I love you Ringo."

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY hired a bodyguard because he feared he would be assassinated after his BEATLES bandmate JOHN LENNON was murdered.
McCartney was horrified by Lennon’s death in New York in December 1980, at the hands of crazed Mark Chapman.
He was so scared copycats would make a similar attempt on his own life that he hired a personal minder - but sacked him after a month because he hated living like a recluse.
He says, "It was horrific. Suddenly your best friend is snatched away.
"And it was scary. Not just for the guys (The Beatles). Everyone in entertainment suddenly thought ‘Woah - we’d better get security’.
"Which I did for about a week, and then I thought, ‘I can’t live like this.’"

Hollywood actress KATE HUDSON is sick of hearing rumours about her lovelife because every male friend she is photographed with is described as her new "mystery man" by the press.
The Almost Famous star has recently been linked to a variety of different suitors, including Australian golfer Adam Scott and baseball star Alex Rodriguez.
But Hudson is adamant that she is not dating an endless stream of guys, insisting the media speculates about every man she is seen with.
She tells British magazine Hello, "I have a lot of male friends and I have been linked romantically to all my best male friends in the last two months. I was having dinner with one of them recently - my son’s uncle - and the next day in the press he was described as a ‘mystery man’ I was dating. I hope one day people will recognise that women can have platonic male friends." Hudson has dated cycling champion Lance Armstrong and actor Owen Wilson since her divorce from rocker Chris Robinson in 2007. The former couple has a five-year-old son together, named Ryder.

American TV star HOWIE MANDEL has been released from hospital, after he was admitted with an irregular heartbeat on Monday (12Jan09).
The Deal Or No Deal host was taken to St Michael’s hospital in Toronto, Canada for treatment after he fainted.
But his mother Evy has now revealed the star was released on Tuesday (13Jan09).
She says, "He’s doing fine. They could have let him go but they said, ‘Hey, you know what, let’s keep you here overnight. I’m just thankful he is fine and, like I say, it has never happened before." And she describes the moment Mandel passed out during filming of his new TV show, Howie Do It, as "horrendous".
She adds, "I saw him and he just fainted. He just went out. It was just horrendous. I don’t know what happened. It was terrifying."

VANESSA HUDGENS has denied she is set to star in TWILIGHT sequel NEW MOON branding reports of a recent audition "just a rumour".
The High School Musical star was said to be trying out for the part of female werewolf Leah Clearwater for the highly anticipated second film in Stephenie Meyer’s vampire franchise.
But a representative for the star has dismissed the reports, telling eCanadanow.com, "I don’t know anything about the audition. As far as I know, it’s just a rumour."

LAW & ORDER: SVU star MARISKA HARGITAY is battling back from a collapsed lung and will return to work on the show next week (begs 19Jan09).
The actress injured herself during a sledge-riding accident, but is on the road to recovery, her co-star Richard Belzer reveals.
Belzer, who plays Detective John Munch in the cop show, says, "She’s doing great. She’s absolutely OK. If you believe in it say a prayer for her. If you don’t send her appealing thoughts. She had a little accident sledding. But she’s ok and she’ll be back to work next week." Hargitay’s injury forced her to miss the Golden Globe awards on Sunday (11Jan09) where she was nominated for a Best Actress in a Television Drama.

R&B singer KELIS is expecting her first child with her hip-hop star husband NAS, according to tabloid reports.
The Milkshake hitmaker, 29, married 35-year-old Nas in January 2005, and insiders say she is already showing signs of a baby bump.
A source tells U.S. magazine Us Weekly, "It’s all they are talking about. She is carrying hip-hop royalty. They are so excited." A spokesperson for the couple had no comment.

Legendary actor PATRICK McGOOHAN has died aged 80.
The American-born star appeared in a host of films and TV shows during a career spanning more than 50 years.
He shot to fame in 1960s British TV show Danger Man but is likely to be best remembered for his role as the title character in cult sci-fi series The Prisoner.
He also had several notable film roles including parts in classic comedy-drama Silver Streak and as Longshanks, King Edward I in Mel Gibson’s Oscar-winning epic Braveheart.
McGoohan, who scooped two Emmy Awards during his career, died on Tuesday (13Jan09) in Los Angeles after a short illness.

Hollywood actor SAMUEL L. JACKSON has hinted he won’t be returning for IRON MAN 2 - because an "economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world" led a to a breakdown of negotiations over his fee.
The star made a cameo appearance at the end of the 2008 hit movie, setting up his role as Nick Fury for the upcoming sequel.
He was also tipped to play the comic book character in The Avengers movie alongside Robert Downey Jnr.’s Iron Man and a host of other superhero characters.
But now Jackson admits that talks between his management team and the bosses behind the movie franchise have stalled, claiming that financial problems at comic book giant Marvel Entertainment mean there’s a good chance he won’t be signed on to either picture.
He tells the Los Angeles Times, "I saw (Iron Man director) Jon Favreau at the Scream Awards and we had a conversation. He said, ‘I hope things are working out for you because we’re writing stuff for you’. Then all of a sudden last week I talked to my agents and manager and things aren’t really working that well.
"There was a huge kind of negotiation that broke down. I don’t know. Maybe I won’t be Nick Fury. Maybe somebody else will be Nick Fury or maybe Nick Fury won’t be in it. There seems to be an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world so (they’re saying to me), ‘We’re not making that deal’.'’

KATE HUDSON anticipated rumours she and BRIDE WARS co-star ANNE HATHAWAY would feud on set - because it "always happens" in Hollywood.
The pair plays two friends who fall out when they discover their weddings are scheduled for the same day - and Hudson expected that the press would start to invent troubles between the real-life friends.

TV talkshow queen OPRAH WINFREY lavished praise on KATE WINSLET’s chest in a recent interview - telling the actress she should be proud of her breasts because they are "real".
The Titanic star appeared on Winfrey’s programme on Tuesday (13Jan09) and when the conversation turned to Winslet’s nude scenes in new movie The Reader, the presenter took the opportunity to express her admiration for the actress’ silicon-free bosom.
Winfrey told the star, "I love the fact that you have real breasts! I love that you have real breasts! Because in all the breast scenes, your breasts do what real breasts do." And Winslet, cupping her chest, replied, "Thank you so much. You mean that kind of thing? STAR TREK actor GEORGE TAKEI has his eye on a starring role in London’s West End.
The 71-year-old has appeared in productions in the U.K. before but has never had a role in the capital - something he would love to achieve.
He says, "I’ve done theatre all over Britain, but never the West End - that’s my dream. I’d love to work in London; I’ve always been a complete anglophile." And despite his age, Takei has vowed to continue with his career - and cites his recent appearance in British reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! as the stepping stone to further opportunities.
He adds, "People my age tend to retire, but the word isn’t in my vocabulary.

Golden Globe winning movie SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE could make the transition from big screen to Broadway, according to the hit movie’s screenwriter.
The film, about a boy from the slums of Mumbai who goes on a game show, won four prizes at the ceremony on Sunday (11Jan09) - Best Motion Picture, Drama, Best Director, Best Original Score and a Best Screenplay award for Simon Beaufoy.
And Beaufoy is already looking at how he can capitalise on the success of the movie - he has a musical version of the film firmly in his sights.
He tells Hollyscoop, "I would love to do a musical with all that lovely Bollywood song and dance. Ya, lets get that musical going. I would love Broadway."

SEANN WILLIAM SCOTT and PAUL RUDD’s comedy ROLE MODELS has topped the U.K. box office chart - taking $3.3 million (£2.3 million) in its opening weekend (09-11Jan09) The film, about two salesmen forced to do community service on a mentorship programme, saw off competition from Golden Globe winning movie Slumdog Millionaire.
The Danny Boyle-directed film, which won four gongs at the ceremony on Sunday (11Dec08), opened at number two, with takings of $2.6 million (£1.8 million).
Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway’s latest offering, romantic comedy Bride Wars, entered at number three and took $2.4 million (£1.7 million).
Another new entry in the chart was the Daniel Craig drama Defiance at number four. Last week’s number one, Yes Men, fell to number five.

Mexican victims of 2005’s Hurricane Stan have been presented with new homes which were built with a $1 million (£690,000) donation from Hollywood actor MEL GIBSON.
The storm devastated the regions of Chiapas and Veracruz, Mexico - where Gibson filmed his 2006 movie Apocalypto - and hundreds of families were left homeless.
Gibson subsequently offered up a substantial donation to help officials in the area begin the rebuilding process.
And now the results have been unveiled by Mexican officials, with 109 new homes for victims of the disaster.
Hurricane Stan struck Central America and southern Mexico in October, 2005, damaging 40,000 residences in the country.

Officials at Hollywood union the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) have concluded talks over a looming actors strike - but have failed to set a date for a vote on the possible walkout.
The SAG was due to ballot its 120,000 members earlier this month (Jan08) in a bid to authorise industrial action in an ongoing row with leading Hollywood studios and TV networks over royalty payments.
Cardholders of the SAG rejected a three-year deal offered by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) last year (08), and union bosses will ballot members over a walkout which could cripple the awards season.
The vote was postponed to give both sides extra time to come to an agreement, with SAG officials stating it would take place on 14 January (09) at the earliest.
But following two days of talks, SAG bosses have failed to come to a conclusion, with a statement announcing there is still no date for the ballot to authorise the industrial action.
It reads, "No mailing date has been set for the previously approved TV/theatrical strike authorisation referendum. We have no further comment." Union members appear to be split in opinion over the strike, with a variety of leading stars including George Clooney, Cameron Diaz and Charlize Theron speaking out against it - insisting walkouts would be disastrous at a time when people are already suffering from the global economic downturn.

PATRICK SWAYZE is winning his battle with pneumonia and plans to check out of hospital within days.
The actor was diagnosed with the illness last week (9Jan09) after seeking help for a persistent cough.
He skipped a press conference to promote his new TV show The Beast, and checked into a California clinic, where he has remained since.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Swayze, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year (08), tells People magazine, "I started coughing on the way home from New Mexico and it made me suspect that there was a possibility of some kind of infection. I wanted to jump on it before it turned into a problem.
As soon as I got home, I called my doctor and then went straight to hospital." And the 56-year-old insists he is on the road to recovery, despite rumours he is on ‘death’s door’.
Swayze adds, "I’m almost in the clear now. I don’t plan on being in the hospital long."

Former SIMPLY RED frontman MICK HUCKNALL blames his childhood for his womanising ways - because he was abandoned by his mother when he was a youngster.
The singer became a notorious bachelor during the band’s heyday, dating a string of eligible women including actress Catherine Zeta-Jones and model Helena Christensen.
And Hucknall, who was raised by his father after his mum walked out when he was just three years old, is adamant that his troubled past affected his lovelife as an adult because he grew up with a lot of insecurities about women.
He says, "Now I’m 48 I can see that a lot of my insecurities were down to the fact that I didn’t have a mother. I believe that a boy needs his mother in his teenage years. It’s the mother that gives them courage, not the father, because you fight for your mother. And not having a mother, it’s a very lonely experience. Who are you fighting for? "I think I was searching for the approval of the entire female population of the world. Without a doubt, I became a professional charmer, and that is really what I did for at least 15 years." Hucknall has been in a relationship with Gabriella Wesberry for seven years.
They have a 19-month old daughter, Romy True.
