POLANSKI CALLS FOR A NEW JUDGE
ROMAN POLANSKI’s attorneys are calling for a change in judges as the moviemaker fights to clear his name in a 30-year-old sex case.
The lawyers of the exiled auteur have accused Los Angeles County Superior Court officials of bias against their client, and they have asked that another judge handle the director’s request to have an unlawful intercourse case against him thrown out.
Last month (Dec08), Polanski formally requested the court throw out the charge "in the interests of justice".
His attorneys claim Judge Peter Espinoza, who is scheduled to oversee a dismissal hearing on 21 January (09), has a predisposition against Polanski.
The director is accused of having unlawful intercourse with a 13-year-old girl in 1977. He pleaded guilty to the charge before fleeing America.
As it stands, Polanski still faces arrest upon his arrival in America.
