Hollywood actress EVA MENDES has accused America’s film industry of sexism, complaining that male actors never have to deal with rumours of feuding with same-sex co-stars.
Mendes stars alongside fellow Hollywood sirens Scarlett Johansson, Jaime King and Paz Vega in Frank Miller’s dark comic movie The Spirit.
But despite the number of A-list actresses on-set, there was no tension amongst the cast - and the star is fed up with fending off misogynistic rumours of cat-fighting behind the scenes.
She says, "I know how people like to believe that, but it’s a very sexist way of thinking. Nobody ever asks that when men work together in an ensemble cast.
I’ve been in the business 10 years and I’ve never had a negative situation with another actress - ever." And Mendes, who began her acting career in her twenties, credits her late rise to stardom with helping to keep her down-to-earth, while other female stars battle problems after finding fame at an early age.
She adds, "I just thank my lucky stars for that. There’s a lot of lost souls in Hollywood - a lot of young women who have so much, who come into fame and fortune when they’re young, and it’s very difficult to handle that."

Music mogul SIMON COWELL is reportedly splashing out $14.5 million (£10 million) to build a dream holiday home in Barbados.
The reality TV judge, who recently split from long-term girlfriend Terri Seymour, wants to build the ultimate bachelor pad on the Caribbean island, according to U.K. newspaper the Daily Mirror.
Cowell has reportedly bought a 10-acre site for the planned six bedroom home, which will feature mirrored walls in each of the bedrooms, a luxury swimming pool and a landing pad for a helicopter.
A source tells the publication, "No expense will be spared. It will have all the latest gizmos and boys’ toys. Cowell has been very specific when it comes to what he wants and insisted on the mirror panels in the bedrooms." Cowell already has a $7.2 million (£5 million) home on the island, where he spent Christmas and the New Year with his ex-flame, pop star Sinitta.

Hotel entrepreneur STEVE WYNN is destined to succeed at whatever he does because he has been guided by the spirit of billionaire HOWARD HUGHES for years, according to top Hollywood medium KENNY KINGSTON.
Hughes was one of Kingston’s secret clients before the mystery of his disappearance and apparent death, and now the subject of Leonardo DiCaprio’s hit film The Aviator has come back from the dead to reveal he’s backing Las Vegas kingpin Wynn’s new hotel venture, Encore.
Kingston tells WENN, "Many people question whether it’s a wise move to make, given the economy and a downturn in Las Vegas business, but Steve Wynn shouldn’t worry - he’s been guided by Howard Hughes for years." And Kingston has been tracing the mystery of Howard Hughes, who was declared dead in 1976, for more than 30 years.
He adds, "I contacted the spirit of Hughes’ mother, Alene, in 1978 and 1979 to see whether she’d seen Howard on the other side. She said no, which is very unusual, since a family member such as a mother would certainly have seen her son when he passed away.
"Then, in 1979, I was contacted by Hughes himself in the flesh and I gave him a psychic reading. Hughes told me he was secretly moving about between Los Angeles, Las Vegas and the Bahamas." Kingston insists Hughes died in the 1980s, and one of his closest friends on the other side is Steve Wynn’s mother.
The psychic adds, "Wynn’s mother and Howard Hughes are working hard to guide Steve with his projects. Hughes admires his courage and business sense. These strong allies on the other side will make sure that Steve Wynn won’t fail."

Actor JEREMY PIVEN has discovered a new leading lady - he’s reportedly found love with waitress and model ASHLEY CHONTOS.
The Entourage star, who recently had to abandon all upcoming performances for Broadway play Speed-the-Plow due to illness, met Chontos at Britney Spears’ Manhattan birthday party on 02 December (08), according to the New York Daily News.
And the pair has been inseparable ever since - with Piven planning to take his new girlfriend to the Golden Globes ceremony (11Jan09) in Beverley Hills, California, reports the publication.

Ageing Oscar winner CLORIS LEACHMAN will join JACK BLACK for a saucy scene in U.S. comedy show THE OFFICE in 2009.
The Young Frankenstein star admits she has "an intimate scene" with the funnyman.
She says, "He has to take me naked out of a bathtub and we kiss a lot." The odd couple’s episode, which also features new mum Jessica Alba, will air in the U.S. on 1 February (09).

JAMES BOND star DANIEL CRAIG is worried about the global credit crunch crisis insisting even Hollywood superstars are not immune from its effects.
The Quantum of Solace actor is reportedly the highest paid screen star in Britain, and recently (Oct08) splashed out $5.8 million (£4 million) on an apartment in Regent’s Park, London.
But Craig believes the film industry will soon face a money shortage as a result of the global financial problems, and is adamant it will affect everyone in the business, including himself.
He says, "Everybody’s in trouble. There’s going to be a cash shortage soon, because the whole point is that the movie industry, like every industry, is built upon how much money they can borrow. So if people stop sending them money, it’s going to dry up.
"I don’t know what the answer is. I know there’s going to be a lot of job losses and it’s going to be really tricky."

British funnyman EDDIE IZZARD treated a fan injured in the Mumbai terror attacks to a stand-up routine as he recovered at a London hospital.
The star was visiting Will Pike in a South London facility, after he suffered a number of broken bones in the attacks last year (Nov08).
Pike’s father, Nigel, had written to Izzard explaining that his son was unable to attend the comedian’s show at the Lyric Theatre in the U.K.’s capital because of his injuries and asked if the comic would send a note to his poorly son.
But Izzard went one better - going to see Pike in the hospital and performing his hour-and-a-half set for him and fellow patients.
Nigel Pike called Izzard’s generous gesture "a great thing".

French actress ISABELLE HUPPERT has been appointed the president of the jury for the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.
The star, whose career has spanned four decades, has twice served as a member of the jury and becomes the fourth woman to head the committee, succeeding actor Sean Penn.
The jury selects the winner of the coveted Palme d’Or prize.
Huppert said she was "very glad and very proud" to be part of the annual event in May (09): "I’ve had a long relationship with Cannes and this next meeting will definitely seal my love for the festival and thus for global cinema." Huppert won the prize for Best Actress at the festival in 1978 for Violette Noziere and for The Piano Teacher in 2001.

HAIRSPRAY actress NIKKI BLONSKY has slammed model BIANCA GOLDEN following their alleged airport brawl in July (08).
The 20-year-old was detained in the Turks and Caicos Islands along with her father, Carl Blonsky, and America’s Next Top Model star Golden after a fight broke out in the holiday destination’s airport lounge.
The altercation between Blonsky and Golden at the Providenciales International Airport was alleged to have started after the actress attempted to save seats for her family, leaving Golden and her mother with nowhere to sit.
Blonsky was charged with assault and actual bodily harm following the incident, but the charges against the star have now been dropped. Golden has also seen a charge of actual bodily harm against her dismissed.
And now the actress has spoken out about the incident - claiming Golden initiated it for "10 minutes of fame".
She tells America’s OK! magazine, "I saw the dark side of the industry. I never knew there were people willing to do anything to get their name in the paper.
"It’s a shame that someone will ruin a person’s life and beat them up to get their 10 minutes of fame back. I think it’s disgusting." Carl Blonsky has pleaded not guilty to charges of grievous bodily harm.

Los Angeles’ Morrison Hotel Gallery is to close at the end of January (09) to allow the art space’s partners to concentrate on their three New York homes.
Gallery co-owner Rich Horowitz has confirmed the Sunset Boulevard location, which housed photographic exhibitions by Eric Clapton’s ex-wife Pattie Boyd, Bill Wyman and top lensmen Henry Diltz and Bob Gruen in its two-year Los Angeles stay, will close its doors due to a lack of "walk-in traffic".
Horowitz tells WENN, "We’d still love to have a presence in Los Angeles but we need to rethink the location." Meanwhile, MHG has become a big success in New York - the partners added a third gallery in Long Island in 2007. They also have a space at the former Bowery home of Big Apple nightclub CBGB.

TV ON THE RADIO’s acclaimed DEAR SCIENCE album has topped another leading magazine poll of 2008’s best releases.
The album beat Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III and Portishead’s Third to claim Spin magazine’s Album of The Year title.
The U.S. publication’s editors also named Lil Wayne the Rock Star of The Year and Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold the Voice of The Year in their end-of-year review.

Former GUNS N’ ROSES star SLASH is mourning the death of close friend and promising musician HEATH SAMMONS.
Sammons, an aspiring performer and songwriter, passed away on Christmas Eve (24Dec08), after losing his battle with a rare form of bone cancer. He was 20 years old.
He became close friends with his idol Slash after the legendary guitarist treated him to a private jam session last June (08) in Los Angeles.
And Sammons’ mother Karis Meier has thanked the Velvet Revolver star, who also visited her son at his Manatee County, Florida home in September (08), for helping lift Sammons’ spirits during his cancer battle.
She says, "It helped him cope because Slash was always just a phone call away. Slash saw Heath not only as a young man who had an illness, but as a friend. They grew close.
"It was just amazing the compassion that Slash had for Heath and the friendship between them. Heath believed he would be a rock star some day, and now he’s a rock star for Jesus."

Singer ANNIE LENNOX has spoken out against the Israeli bomb strikes on Gaza calling for an end to the "slaughter and systematic murder" of Arabs living in the area.
The Eurythmics legend was joined by Bianca Jagger and British comic Alexei Sayle at a press conference in London to slam the attacks - which are thought to have killed 400 people and left hundreds injured.
Lennox will join a planned demonstration in the British capital on Saturday (03Jan08) to demand an immediate end to the Israeli raids.
The violence in the Middle East between Hamas controlled Gaza and Israel began last week (Beg22Dec08), with both sides ignoring international calls for a ceasefire.
And a teary-eyed Lennox told reporters she had been "shaken to the core" by the warfare.
She says, "I was thinking as a mother and as a human being - how was this going to be a solution to peace? How are we going to find the answer in this way? "The reason I’m here today is to use my freedom of speech, my right as an individual in a free world, to encourage people to get together and protest against this means of ‘conflict resolution’ which will never work." Palestine and Israel have long fought over control of Gaza; in 1994 Palestine took over rule of the area from Israel, which had governed the area since 1967.
Hamas, a Palestinian Islamic paramilitary organisation, took leadership of the area in 2007.

MEL GIBSON has paid a touching tribute to fellow Aussie HEATH LEDGER as part of an end-of-year review in a U.S. magazine.
The Mad Max star tells Entertainment Weekly he saw a lot of his own characteristics in Ledger, who he first met when the tragic star auditioned to play his son in 2000 movie The Patriot.
Gibson tells the publication he was impressed by the young actor’s magnetism, even though his audition wasn’t "polished".
The Braveheart star writes, "We all just wanted to watch the guy.
"On set, I felt a real connection with this kid. He had all the raw stuff…
You wanted to say, ‘Dude, just calm down and be yourself. It’s good.’" Gibson admits he was stunned when Ledger died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs last year (Jan08).
He adds, "When he passed, he was just about to take the next step. The terrible tragedy of his loss is all that potential. I wanted to see what he was going to do next."

MICKEY ROURKE has denied launching a verbal attack on SEAN PENN - after a website alleged the THE WRESTLER star had called his fellow actor "homophobic".
Celebrity site the Daily Beast claims that Rourke sent a text message to a top Hollywood executive in which he slams Penn’s portrayal of gay politician Harvey Milk, in new Hollywood biopic Milk.
According to the website Rourke wrote, "Look. Sean’s an old friend of mine and I didn’t buy his performance at all - thought he did an average pretend acting like he was gay besides he’s one of the most homophobic people I kno (sic)." But Rourke, who along with Penn is hotly tipped to receive an Academy Award nomination in the Best Actor category, has angrily refuted the report.
The star’s publicist says, "There is no fake Oscar feud between Mickey and Sean. They have known each other and been friends for a very a long time.
Mickey attended the New York premiere of Milk to support Sean and has the greatest respect for him."

PAMELA ANDERSON’s ex-husband RICK SALOMON is facing legal action from a woman who has accused him of involvement in an assault at a party.
Salomon, who split from Anderson after just 10 weeks, has been named in a suit filed by Gertrude Harutunian at Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday (30Dec08).
In the papers, Harutunian claims she was the victim of an assault at an event hosted by Salomon at his Hollywood home last July (08).
The suit accuses Salomon of standing by and allowing his roommate, Buddy Segal, to "strike, hit and throw" her at the party.
The papers claim Salomon "watched and conspired with Segal to hurt and injure (her)." Harutunian is seeking unspecified damages, according to TMZ.com.

JIM CARREY has vowed to give his longtime girlfriend JENNY McCARTHY a financially secure future - after reportedly setting up a $50 million (£35 million) trust fund for the actress despite insisting they will never marry.
The actor, 46, has earned an estimated $200 million (£140 million) with his blockbuster comedies - and is desperate to make sure 36-year-old McCarthy is set for life.

Bosses of TOM CRUISE’s new movie VALKYRIE are reportedly facing possible legal action over the use of a Nazi prop in the film.
The movie, which tells the true story of a plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler, includes scenes featuring the Nazi leader’s famous globe, on which he planned his military strategy.
Now the owner of the real globe is contemplating a lawsuit against film bosses for breach of copyright, according to New York Post gossip column PageSix.
Art collector Robert Pritikin paid $100,000 (£68,483) for the globe in 2007, and copyrighted its likeness to prevent its use by right-wing propaganda groups.
And he was reportedly "stunned" to see a replica version used extensively in Valkyrie.
Porn director-turned-private-eye Paul Barresi, who is investigating the case, says: "Pritikin believes the globe should be used as a teaching tool so the lessons of Hitler’s nightmare can keep history from repeating itself."
