AVANT-GARDE ARTIST SHARP DIES

American avant-garde artist/performer WILLOUGHBY SHARP has lost his battle with throat cancer, aged 72.
Sharp, noted as a cutting-edge performer, producer, writer, publisher and artist, died on 17 December (08) in Manhattan.
Among his most well-known accomplishments was his post as publisher of widely-respected art magazine Avalanche, which ran from 1970 to 1976 and featured interviews from rising artists of the time.
He also ran the Willoughby Sharp Gallery in Manhattan’s SoHo district from 1988 to 2004.
Sharp’s video works can be seen in collections of major museums across the globe, including New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela Seymour Smith Sharp, a daughter from his first marriage, Saskia Sharp, and two grandchildren.
