Hollywood actor BILLY BOB THORNTON has put his life-long love of music on hold to pursue his film career - because big budget movies pay so well.
The 53-year-old began his career as a singer-songwriter in the late 1990s, taking the stage with his cover band, Tres Hombres.
But the Monster’s Ball star has been reluctant to dive head first into the music business since the release of his third album in 2005, because his LPs alone don’t earn enough.
He says, "I’ve got to do movies because they pay lots of money. I grew up in the old music business, so that’s my first love."

JESSICA SIMPSON is nursing her American football star boyfriend TONY ROMO back to health after he collapsed following an intense match at the weekend (28Dec08).
The Dallas Cowboys quarterback fell in the shower following a defeat by the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, reports ESPN.com.
Team sources tell the website medical staff brought a stretcher to the scene, but Romo walked on his own and had to be helped to the podium for a news conference shortly after the game - where he refused to answer questions about his health.
Reports suggest Romo may have suffered a rib injury in the second half of the match - the Cowboys’ biggest loss ever at 44 to six.

GREY’S ANATOMY actress CHYLER LEIGH is expecting her third child with her actor/musician husband NATHAN WEST.
Leigh, 26, married West, 30, in July 2002 after they worked together on the TV series 7th Heaven.
The pregnancy will not be written into the U.S. drama’s storyline, according to her spokesperson, Marcel Pariseau.
He tells People.com, "They are absolutely thrilled and looking forward to the new addition to their young family." The couple share five-year-old son, Noah Wilde, and two-year-old daughter, Taelyn.

The playwright who directed JEREMY PIVEN on Broadway before the actor blamed mercury poisoning for his abrupt departure from the stage has been targeted in a new tell-all book.
David Mamet, who directed Piven in his Broadway debut Speed-the-Plow, is portrayed as a foul-mouthed director who chastised students while teaching theatre classes at New York University, in new memoir Take Your Shirt Off and Cry.
The book’s author, actress/playwright Nancy Balbirer, recalls Mamet’s reaction to one student who spoke too softly, reports the New York Post.
Balbirer writes: "’Get the f**k off my stage! Now,’ he’d bellow… ‘And,’ he’d continue, his short, burly body bouncing around like a school-yard bully in need of his daily Ritalin, ‘Don’t f**king come back until we can hear you.
How dare you? You’re whispering. On the stage. It’s f**king passive-aggressive.
You know, only people who are full of s**t whisper.’" Adding of his own advice for her, she continues: "There’s nothing worse than being a woman in show business… you’ll be asked to do only two things in every f**king role you ever play: take your shirt off and cry." The book is scheduled to hit shelves in April (09).
Piven was ordered to pull out of Speed-the-Plow on doctor’s orders earlier this month (Dec08), prompting Mamet to apparently mock his excuse and find a last minute replacement.

Actress ZOOEY DESCHANEL can take her pick of two suitors - she has reportedly received marriage proposals from rockers BEN GIBBARD and HUNTER BURGAN.
The Yes Man star, 28, agreed to wed Burgan, a bass guitarist for AFI, according to U.S. tabloid In Touch Weekly.
But Us Weekly magazine reports she has got engaged to Gibbard, frontman for American rock band Death Cab for Cutie.
A source tells the mag the couple is "so thrilled", adding: "Zooey was swept off her feet, and Ben is so excited." A spokesperson for the stars had not returned requests for comment as WENN went to press.

DANNY BOYLE’s SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE has been given a major movie nod - after a prestigious awards board named it one of the most significant films of the year (08).
The drama was honoured by The American Film Institute (AFI), whose 13 jury members listed it as one of this year’s eight "Moments of Significance in Film, TV and Web," on Sunday (28Dec08).
The movie tells the story of an 18 year-old boy from the slums of Mumbai who falls in love with a young orphaned girl.
An AFI spokesperson says it "stands as a monument to the possibilities of cross-cultural storytelling".
Other significant moments applauded include media coverage of U.S.
President-elect Barack Obama’s run for The White House and NBC’s footage of the Summer Olympics in Beijing.
Comedienne Tina Fey also impressed with her hit TV series 30 Rock and jeering impersonation of Republican Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin on comedy sketch show Saturday Night Live.
The winners of the AFI Awards, selected by industry professionals and critics, will be honoured at a luncheon next month. (09Jan09).

Hip-hop producer TIMBALAND has a thorn in his holiday plans - after a florist filed a suit against him alleging he owes thousands of dollars in unpaid Christmas decorations.
Bosses of The White Tulip Florist in Miami Beach, Florida have filed legal papers against the rapper, claiming he bought $25,850 (£17,520) worth of trees, flowers and lights but still owes $11,450 (£7,760) in unpaid fees.
According to TMZ.com, Timbaland - real name Timothy Zachery Mosley - was stunned when he received the massive bill, and requested the company sent him an itemised price list.
A spokesperson for the star had not returned request for comment as WENN went to press.

Grammy-winning jazz musician FREDDIE HUBBARD has died, aged 70.
Hubbard, a celebrated trumpeter whose style has inspired generations of horn players, died on Monday (29Dec08) at Sherman Oaks Hospital in Los Angeles, his manager David Weiss has confirmed.
The musician had been hospitalised since suffering a heart attack last month (Nov08).
Hubbard won a Grammy in 1972 for best jazz performance by a group for his album, First Light. His last concert was in June (08) in New York at a party celebrating the release of his final album.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Briggie Hubbard, and their son Duane.
