JENNIFER ANISTON’s new family film MARLEY & ME has fought off the Christmas Day competition at the U.S. box-office, earning the highest one-day total ever for a film opening on the holiday at $14.6 million (£9.9 million).
The movie, co-starring Owen Wilson, beat out Brad Pitt’s drama The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which took in $11.6 million (£7.9 million) on its opening day, Thursday (25Dec08), and secured the second-highest Christmas opening to date.
Meanwhile Adam Sandler and Russell Brand’s new Disney movie Bedtime Stories took the third holiday spot at $10.5 million (£7.1 million) with its debut.
Rounding out the top five on Christmas Day were Tom Cruise’s Holocaust drama Valkyrie, which opened at $8.5 million (£5.8 million) in the fourth spot, followed by Jim Carrey’s comedy Yes Man, which took in an additional $6 million (£4.1 million) less than one week after its debut.
