MADONNA and her ex-husband GUY RITCHIE’s plans to spend Christmas together for the sake of their children are in turmoil, after the director reportedly refused to let the singer stay at his English country estate.
The couple has been wrangling over custody of son Rocco, eight, adopted David, three, and Madonna’s daughter Lourdes, 12, since their divorce was agreed last month (Nov08).
They had decided to suspend their feud during the festive period and planned to spend the holidays together at $15 million (£10 million) Ashcombe House in Wiltshire, England.
But Ritchie has allegedly reneged on their deal, because having the Holiday hitmaker around would stir up too many memories.
A source tells Britain’s The Sun, "Guy is desperate to see the children on Christmas Day and was okay with them all spending the day at Ashcombe. He was even willing to have Madonna there and try to be civilised for the sake of the children.
"But having her stay over was just too much. He couldn’t bear the thought of her padding round the kitchen next morning like old times - there are too many sad memories." The newspaper claims the film director had offered to go to New York for the day instead - but the singer is refusing to change her plans.
The source adds, "Guy’s said he’ll do anything she wants - fly to America if needs be - to spend the day with the kids, just as long as it doesn’t involve him and Madonna spending the night under the same roof.
"But the plan was for the children to come to England and that’s what Madonna still wants. It’s a mess."

Actress EMMA WATSON has "no need" for the millions she has made from acting, because her life isn’t motivated by money.
The Harry Potter star gained access to a $15 million (£10 million) fortune when she turned 18 in April (08), but the teenager hasn’t been splashing the cash.
And, because of her financial independence, the star can afford to be picky about her future film roles.
She says, "The wealth side of it hasn’t hit me yet because I have no need for money in my life. My life will not be motivated by money.
"I will never do a film because they’re going to pay me a certain amount of money. It’s liberating. It means I can hopefully make great choices."

A representative for EDDIE MURPHY’s denied the actor will take on the role of THE RIDDLER in a new BATMAN movie.
Earlier this week (18Dec08) a British tabloid newspaper claimed the Beverly Hills Cop star would take on the villainous quizmaster character in the latest outing in the Caped Crusader franchise.
The part was made famous by Jim Carrey in 1995’s Batman Forever.
And the publication also suggested actor Shia LaBeouf would play young crimefighter Robin, alongside returning Batman Christian Bale.
But Murphy’s representative has refuted the claims, telling Access Hollywood the reports are "not true".
The movie, tentatively titled Gotham, is slated for a 2010 release.

She tells Entertainment Tonight, "I’m 24 years old! I’ve got a lot of time for that. I love to work and I’m enjoying myself right now." Jurors on SOPRANOS actor LILLO BRANCATO JR’s murder trial will resume deliberating over the verdict on Friday (19Dec08), after the case reached a deadlock.
Brancato is charged with second-degree murder over the death off-duty police officer Daniel Enchautegui, who was shot dead by Brancato’s friend Steven Armento.
The actor took to the stand on Monday (15Dec08) and the jury has since retired to consider their verdict on the case.
The case has not been without drama - Enchautegui’s family have accused Brancato of smirking and his lawyer has been blasted by police for laughing during proceedings.
On Thursday (18Dec08), a mistrial was narrowly avoided after it was discovered a juror had been researching the case, which is not permitted.
At the end of proceedings on Thursday, jurors deadlocked 11-1 on the verdict and were sent home to resume their deliberations the following day.

The actress and her husband, former American football star Jason Sehorn, welcomed little Emery Hope on Thursday (18Dec08), the actress’ representative tells People.com.

SIR CLIFF RICHARD is already planning his final resting place - because he is anticipating legions of fans coming to pay their respects to him.

Lovebirds FERGIE and JOSH DUHAMEL have set the date for their wedding - they’re tying the knot next month (Jan09), according to Internet reports.
The singer - real name Stacey Ferguson - got engaged to actor Josh Duhamel last year (Dec07), and she has spoken about her excitement about marriage and wanting children with her actor beau.
And now the pair have set the date for their big day, reports Access Hollywood.

QUEEN star BRIAN MAY did not realise his bandmate FREDDIE MERCURY was gay for years - because the flamboyant star had a string of girlfriends.
The pair were close during the early days of the band, but the legendary guitarist insists he had no inclination of Mercury’s homosexuality.
He tells Britain’s Daily Express, "No, I didn’t know. I don’t think even he was fully cognisant in the beginning.
"You’re talking to someone who shared rooms with Fred on the first couple of tours, so I knew him pretty well. I knew a lot of his girlfriends and he certainly didn’t have boyfriends, that’s for sure. I think there was a slight suspicion, but it never occurred to me that he was gay." And even when the frontman, who died in 1991, had come to terms with his sexual orientation, he became well versed at avoiding the issue when asked directly.
May adds, "I remember Freddie being asked if he was gay in one of his early interviews and he said: ‘Yes, darling, of course. I’m as gay as a daffodil’. It was a neat way of sidestepping the issue because actually, Freddie was no fool.
"I know that all through his life Fred didn’t think that whether he was gay or not was important. He loved music, he love his work, and he didn’t want anything to get in the way. Anyone who portrays Fred as purely a gay story is missing a lot of the point."

Record producer JERMAINE DUPRI has slammed reports he has split from longtime love JANET JACKSON.
The couple has been an item for four years, and was only recently rumoured to be planning to marry and start a family together.
Reports this week (18Dec08) claimed the couple had been rowing over the singer’s recently stalled tour and as a result, Dupri had moved out of Jackson’s Los Angeles home.
But Dupri has set the record straight with an online posting, assuring fans the couple are still together - while insisting they are not preparing for their first child.

PAMELA ANDERSON shocked a studio audience watching THE OSBOURNES record their television show, by flashing her breasts to the assembled crowd.
The Baywatch beauty was filming a guest slot for upcoming variety show Osbournes: Reloaded on Wednesday (17Dec08), hosted by Sharon and Ozzy, daughter Kelly and her younger brother Jack.
And in the skit, Guess The Guest, Anderson’s famous boobs spilled out over the top of her dress.
An eyewitness says, "The Osbournes blindfold themselves and ask the guest questions to guess who they are. Pam was sprawled on the stage, but when she got up, the top half of her dress completely flopped forward exposing everything." But the blindfolded Osbourne’s missed catching a glimpse of the star’s huge chest: "They heard it all and were very confused. It was very funny." The blooper is set to be aired on the show at a later date, but Anderson’s representative is downplaying the flashing: "I know that Pam had some issues with the zipper on the back of her dress. But as far as I saw, she remained properly covered and nothing was revealed to the audience."

Little-known Australian actor SAM WORTHINGTON is the hot favourite to land the coveted role of the PHANTOM in the forthcoming comic book movie adaptation after winning a vote of confidence from the film’s screen writer.
Fellow Aussie Tim Boyle has been handed the job of taking the superhero to the big screen in The Ghost Who Walks - and he is keen to cast as much homegrown talent as possible.
Boyle worked with Worthington on low budget action movie Fink and is keen for the pair to reunite.
According to Moviehole.net, the two have yet to discuss the role - and Boyle has yet to learn from studio chiefs if he will also be allowed to direct the movie.
Worthington, 22, will next be seen in director McG’s Christian Bale-starring Terminator: Salvation.

TWILIGHT star TAYLOR LAUTNER is hitting the gym in a desperate attempt to convince the movie’s producers he should reprise his role in the forthcoming sequel.
Launter has yet to be signed to star in New Moon, due for release in 2009, reportedly because franchise bosses fear he’s not strong enough for the role.
But the 18-year-old is desperate to keep the part of Jacob.
Lautner tells MTV News, "I have been working out. I’ve been working out since the day we finished filming Twilight. I just weighed myself and I’ve put on 19 pounds." To sell himself further, Lautner adds he is "guaranteeing (New Moon director Chris) Weitz 10 more (pounds) by filming." Fellow cast mate Ashley Greene is cheering him on saying, "We all love Taylor. He’s such a sweet guy, and I think that he understands the part."

MAJEL BARRETT-RODDENBERRY, the actress widow of STAR TREK creator GENE RODDENBERRY, has died at the age of 76.
Barrett-Roddenberry lost her battle with leukaemia at her Bel-Air, California home on Thursday (18Dec08) afternoon, her representative confirms.
Her son Rod was by her side, reports Access Hollywood.
Barrett-Roddenberry starred in TV shows Bonanza, Leave it to Beaver, and The Lucy Show during her acting career - but she will be best remembered for her association with the Star Trek series.
The actress has played a part in every incarnation of the sci-fi show since it premiered in 1966, and only recently completed voiceover work as the voice of the Starship Enterprise in the new J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie.
A public memorial will take place in the next month.
Gene Roddenberry died in 1991, aged 70.

WILLIAM H. MACY is jumping into the Broadway hotseat to replace sick star JEREMY PIVEN in the current New York theatre production of SPEED-THE-PLOW.
Piven skipped a performance on Tuesday (16Dec08) complaining of illness, and has now pulled out the production for good, after doctors discovered high levels of mercury in his system.
Theatre bosses haven’t waited long to cast a new star, and have hired Macy and Tony Award-winning stage actor Norbert Leo Butz to share the role until the play closes on 22 February 2009.
Piven’s understudy is currently taking his place; Butz will take over 23 December through to 11 January and Macy is set to finish the show’s run from 13 January (09) to 22 February (09).

AC/DC rocker BRIAN JOHNSON is writing a memoir about his life as a rock star.
Johnson, the sole Brit member of the Aussie band, will share thoughts and anecdotes in the book, being released by publishers Penguin.
But the star warns it won’t be a typical rock’n'roll autobiography; drug-taking tales of excess will be replaced by stories about his obsession with cars.
Johnson tells HeraldTribune.com, "I like humour a lot, and cars have been a big part of my life. I’m lucky enough that I’m able to buy some of the exotic ones. Instead of doing drugs, I did motorcars. I’m not sure which one is more expensive."

Pop star PAUL SIMON is going back to school - he has been appointed to the board of trustees at the U.S.’s prestigious Berklee College of Music.
The Boston, Massachusetts institute announced on Thursday (18Dec08) that Simon would be joined by director and Spinal Tap star Christopher Guest.
The pair already hold honorary doctorates from Berklee, and Simon has two scholarships in his name.
