REEVES SCI-FI MOVIE ROCKETS TO THE TOP OF THE BOX OFFICE CHART
KEANU REEVES’ sci-fi thriller THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL has rocketed to the top of the U.S. box office chart, taking an impressive $31 million (£20 million) in its opening weekend.
Reeves’ performance as an alien who comes to earth - in a remake of the 1951 cult classic - helped the movie destroy any competition.
Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn’s holiday comedy Four Christmases came in second with $13.3 million (£6.7 million).
Twilight finished third with $8 million (£5.3 million), taking it’s total to $150 million (£100 million).
Disney animation Bolt came in fourth with $7.5 million (£5 million), and epic Australia rounded out of the top five with $4.2 million (£2.8 million).
The Baz Luhrmann movie has taken a disappointing $38 million (£25 million) in three weeks of release.
Christmas movie Nothing Like the Holidays - starring Debra Messing and John Leguizamo - entered the box office chart in a disappointing seventh place, taking just $3.5 million (£2.3 million) over the weekend.
