DUPRI SUES NIGHTCLUB

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:33 pm

JANET JACKSON’s boyfriend JERMAINE DUPRI is taking legal action against a Georgia nightclub and promoter - for allegedly falsely using his name to publicise an event.
The music mogul has filed suit against Elite Entertainment Group, LLC owners of the Pure Atlanta nightclub in his hometown of Atlanta - and Binyam Yayine, who was responsible for plugging the venue’s weekly events.
Lawyers for Dupri claim the star was approached to host an evening of entertainment, called All Black Affair, on 20 November (08).
Dupri’s manager, Nick Leo, is said to have turned down the request as the star was abroad at the time.
The record executive alleges club bosses went ahead anyway and announced he would be making an appearance at the event and hosting the proceedings.
The papers claim Dupri’s manager contacted the organisation and insisted his name be removed from the listings, but bosses failed to do so before the event went ahead, according to AllHipHop.com.
Dupri is now suing the owners and promoter for violating his right of publicity, unfair competition, false advertising and unfair and deceptive trade practises under the federal Lanham Trademark Act. They are also accused of violating the Georgia Uniform Deceptive Trade Practices Act and Georgia common law.
Dupri is seeking a permanent injunction preventing the misappropriation of his name, image and likeness by Elite Entertainment, "all profits received from their unauthorised us of Dupri’s name and image", punitive damages and legal fees.
The star’s attorneys have also requested that the case be heard by a jury in Fulton County, Georgia.

REEVES’ REVEALS EXTRATERRESTRIAL BELIEFS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:33 pm

KEANU REEVES is sure there is life on other planets, insisting it’s "crazy" to think extraterrestrials don’t exist.
The actor stars in forthcoming sci-fi movie The Day The Earth Stood Still, and the filming experience left him wondering about alien beings.
He says, "I’ve met people who have seen UFOs but I don’t know anyone who has been abducted. How could there not be life on other planets? The universe is so vast.
"I guess a lot of people won’t believe in extraterrestrial life until they see evidence, until an alien lands in Central Park like my character does in the film, but the idea that life doesn’t exist anywhere but here is crazy."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:30 pm

MERYL STREEP wants to outlaw the practise of campaigning for big awards, because she hates the idea of seeing the star with the best ad grabbing the top prize.
The two-time Oscar winner is entering the winter awards season a hot favourite for several top acting prizes, for her role in Doubt.

JOHANSSON’S MAN TROUBLES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:30 pm

SCARLETT JOHANSSON is delighted she finally found love with RYAN REYNOLDS after a string of disastrous relationships.
The Lost In Translation beauty, 24, walked down the aisle with her actor boyfriend, 31, in a secret ceremony in September (08) in Reynolds’ native Canada.
But Johansson admits she was always unlucky in love before she met the star.
She tells British magazine Cosmopolitan, "I’ve been in situations before where a guy hasn’t been into me. It’s either they don’t want to commit or put in the effort, or they’re too involved in their own thing. You don’t always meet the right person at the right time and I think it’s important for people to figure out their own lives before involving someone else - to gauge where you are and work on your own issues."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:27 pm

Hollywood veteran CLINT EASTWOOD has finally found domestic bliss with second wife DINA RUIZ.
The Dirty Harry star, 78, has fathered seven children by five women - and his wild ways ended his previous marriage to model Maggie Johnson in 1984.
Yet Eastwood is adamant 43-year-old newscaster Ruiz - who he romanced after she interviewed him in 1993 and married in 1996 - has brought him a new lease of life.
He says, "(Dina) has opened me up as a person. Finally I have found someone who has allowed me to feel totally at ease.
"It’s simply that nice feeling you get when you’re sitting on your sofa having a drink and you look around and see your wife and daughter - you know this is as good as life can be. I have waited a long time to experience that.
"Love is much stronger when one meets in the second half of one’s life. It hits you when you least expect it." And Eastwood says Ruiz has put aside his previous relationships to bring together his "dysfunctional family".
He says, "She has brought them all together. She doesn’t have the usual resentment about prior relationships. She has befriended everyone so it keeps this dysfunctional family together."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:24 pm

EMINEM has dismissed reports he’s revamped his hit song STAN for a sequel.
Fellow rapper Swiss Beatz recently claimed he’d submitted a track for Eminem’s upcoming album Relapse, and it was a follow-up to the 2000 hit, featuring Dido.
But Eminem tells Billboard.com, "I haven’t worked with Swizz on this album.
There isn’t a Stan 2, and there won’t be. Stan drove his car off a bridge and I’m not writing a song as Stan’s ghost. That would just be really corny."

ROSE DENIES ALBUM SALES SLUMPING FROM ‘FEAR OF PEOPLE’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:21 pm

GUNS N’ ROSES frontman AXL ROSE has laughed off reports he has cancelled interviews to promote the band’s new album CHINESE DEMOCRACY because he is suffering a fear of people.
The LP - which took 15 years to complete and release - entered at number three in the Billboard chart at the beginning of this month (Dec08) with disappointing sales of 261,000.
A source tells the New York Post that Rose has refused to promote the floundering disc due to the crippling effects of "anthropophobia".
A music industry insider tells the newspaper, "He has fired his management company, Front Line, three times in four weeks.
"He hasn’t left his Los Angeles home in two months. He won’t give interviews, won’t do talk shows, or perform - which makes touring or promoting very difficult, obviously." But the rocker’s spokesperson, Larry Solters, denies Rose has returned to his reclusive ways, adding, "He has not been diagnosed with anthropophobia. He hasn’t fired Front Line, and no interviews have been cancelled."

ELTON JOHN LOSES LIBEL SUIT OVER CHARITY BALL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:00 am

SIR ELTON JOHN has lost a libel lawsuit against a British newspaper which wrote a satirical article poking fun at his annual White Tie and Tiara Ball.
The Rocket Man hitmaker claimed a spoof article published in The Guardian’s weekend supplement on 5 July (08), which implied overheads for the event were excessive and the charity bash was just a means of self-promotion, was "gratuitously offensive".
He sought unspecified damages and an apology in the suit, filed at London’s High Court.
But the suit was thrown out on Friday (12Dec08) and the rocker has been refused the right to appeal and ordered to pay court costs.
A spokesperson for the newspaper says of their favourable ruling, "We’re sorry that Elton John lost his sense of humour over this article. The judge and, we suspect all readers - saw the article for what it was; a piece of mild satire. Newspapers have published satire since the 17th century in this country: the judgment is an important recognition of the right to poke the occasional bit of fun." This year’s (08) ball raised a record $20 million (GBP13.4 million) for the Elton John Aids Foundation.
