Soul star TONI BRAXTON has credited her eviction from TV show DANCING WITH THE STARS with saving her life - because it allowed her to undergo vital surgery.
The singer was booted off the hit reality show on 20 October (08) and immediately scheduled an operation to remove a mystery lump from her breast.
The 41-year-old admits that she discovered the benign tumour before she appeared on the ABC programme, but decided to wait until she was eliminated from the contest to undergo surgery.
And Braxton is now relieved that she exited the show early.
She tells Us Weekly.com, "Getting the boot on the show was actually a blessing in disguise for me. My grandmother on my dad’s side died of breast cancer, and I have aunts on both sides that have breast cancer."

Pop star RICKY MARTIN has promised never to hire a nanny to look after his twin sons - because he is proud to care for them all by himself.
The 36-year-old singer became dad to baby boys, Valentino and Matteo, in August (08) after fathering them through a surrogate mother.
After ruling out the "long and complicated process" of adoption, Martin opted for surrogacy, calling it a "an intriguing and faster option".
And the star is determined he will be there for every step of his sons’ upbringing.
He tells People.com, "Everything they do, from smiling to crying, feels like a blessing. Being a father feels amazing.
"I don’t have a nanny. I’m doing this on my own because I don’t want to miss a moment. I have a personal assistant who helps me, someone who takes care of me while I’m taking care of them, but I’m the one who changes the diapers, the one that feeds them, the one that bathes them, the one that puts them to sleep.
For any parent, the first couple of months tend to get a little bit intense.

Rapper T.I. is determined to use his time in prison wisely - he is planning to organise his comeback from behind bars.
The Whatever You Like hitmaker, real name Clifford Harris Jr., is facing a one year prison sentence in March (09) after pleading guilty to illegal possession of three machine guns and two silencers following his 2007 arrest.
And T.I. is adamant that he won’t be wasting any time in prison.
He tells MTV.com, "Presumably, while I’m there, I’ll be able to strategise my comeback. All those days will be spent speaking to people who are interested in being in the T.I. business. Preparing myself for the days those doors open, when I put my feet back on the ground of the free world. It’s just months of planning. It’s just a long time to roll the project out. I ain’t gonna just be sitting still doing nothing. The wheels will be turning, just the car ain’t going nowhere." And the star is even planning to make a movie before he heads to jail.
He adds, "The film I’m producing over at New Line, For Sale, we’re trying to put that together, and hopefully we’ll be able to do that before March. We’re getting offers every day, checking on our availability, on whether or not we’ll be able to take advantage of certain opportunities, film-wise."

Hollywood actress JENNIFER ANISTON is "sick" of the interest in her relationship with musician JOHN MAYER.
The former Friends star has recently got back together with the rocker Mayer - but is fed up of reading gossip about their romance.
And she hopes her role in the upcoming movie Marley and Me will divert attention away from her private life.
Aniston says, "I think it’s ridiculous, the interest in my life. There’s just this insatiable need. I also haven’t had a movie in a long time, so hopefully this is going to create something else to talk about and (make people) realise that I have a job, and I’m an actress.

BOBBY BROWN has denied he was violent towards ex-wife WHITNEY HOUSTON during their stormy marriage.
The couple’s 15-year union, which ended in 2007, was peppered with reports of Houston calling the police following furious arguments with her husband.
But although Brown admits he often lost his temper with the singer, he denies he ever struck her.
He tells MTV.com, "I mean, I’m guilty of getting upset and flying off the handle a little. I was known to throw a bottle or two at a wall or something.
Things that I’d regret, I would be responsible for cleaning up or having the wall repaired.
"What people fail to realise is that Whitney is no punk. She definitely knows how to handle and defend herself in situations that could have potentially been violent. Some of the stories in the media made me out to be like Ike Turner, when that wasn’t my character."

BRAD PITT would love to work with TOM CRUISE again - and is a huge fan of his cameo role in TROPIC THUNDER.
The pair starred together in 1994 movie Interview With The Vampire and remained pals after filming had ended.
And Pitt is eager to work with Cruise again, because he is such a big fan of his films.
When asked if he’d co-star with Cruise again, he tells Extra, "Of course.
He’s a friend of mine. He’s a strong one, that guy…I loved what he did in Tropic Thunder. The ending is hilarious."

ANGELINA JOLIE is "very proud" of partner BRAD PITT’s performance in THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON, because he was so dedicated to the "trying" film.
The movie, which has already received a Best Director award and has been nominated for several other major honours, centres around Button, who is born with the physical limitations of a man in his eighties and ages backwards.
Filming was hard for Pitt, but it made him appreciate his extended family more, according to Jolie: "As Brad says, it makes you want to call your folks and hug your kids. It makes you think about all the people in your life who have been important to you." Jolie couldn’t be more pleased with her partner’s performance, telling Paramount, "I’m very, very proud. Just every day he went to work, how hard he worked, how hard the director worked, just how dedicated they all were.
"It’s been a big process. It was a very trying film. So I’m just happy that it came out so beautifully and that their work is going to be recognised." And the Tomb Raider actress can relate to some of the themes running through the movie.
She adds: "It deals with so many aspects of our life. It deals with love and death and friendship and what we’ve learned along the way and the mistakes we make and the things we regret and the things we’re happy we did and we wish we could return to. All those things that make for a beautiful film and I think it has everything in it."

Pop star BRITNEY SPEARS has topped the U.S. album charts for the first time in more than five years.
The singer has shifted more than half a million copies of her LP Circus in its first week on sale to give her the number one spot in the Billboard 200.
Spears scores the second biggest debut week of the year for a female artist, behind Taylor Swift. In first week sales figures, Circus outsold records by Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus and Madonna.

The owners of the elephants used in BRITNEY SPEARS’ new video CIRCUS have defended the treatment of the animals following criticism from animal rights activists.
The pop superstar came under fire from officials at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), who claimed she should have refrained from using the captive exotic creatures in her new promo.
Elephant trainers Gari and Kari Johnson, owners of California-based Have Trunk Will Travel, were responsible for the animals onset and have hit back at PETA’s accusations, insisting all of the livestock used in the video were treated well.
Kari Johnson tells MTV.com in a statement, "The American Humane Association monitors animal action in film and television. A representative was on the set of the Britney Spears Circus video with our elephants, Tai and Kitty, to ensure their safety and welfare. "Britney, the director, producers and the entire crew were respectful of the elephants’ needs and comfort and a pleasure to work with." Circus, the title track from Spears’ new album, is due for release next year (09).

Former DUKES OF HAZZARD star JOHN SCHNEIDER is on the hunt for his dogs after the pooches were snatched by heartless crooks.
The 10-week-old Yorkshire terriers were bought as Christmas presents for the actor’s children.
According to TMZ.com, the dogs were taken when Schneider’s vehicle was stolen from outside a shopping mall in Sherman Oaks, California.
Police are on the look out for the missing pets.

LINDSAY LOHAN and SEAN PENN are in discussions about filming a movie together, according to U.S. reports.
The Mean Girls star has appeared in a number of flops in recent years, including 2007’s Georgia Rule, and is more famous for her romance with DJ Samantha Ronson.
But now the actress looks set to revive her career by starring in a film with acclaimed actor Penn, after the pair were heard discussing their career together with director Gus Van Sant.

Animated movie MADAGASCAR: ESCAPE 2 AFRICA has shot to the top of the U.K. box office charts.
The film, starring Ben Stiller, Jada Pinkett Smith and Chris Rock took $9.3 million (£6.3 million) in its opening weekend, ahead of festive comedy FOUR CHRISTMASES - which made $2 million (£1.4 million).
Transporter 3, starring Jason Statham, entered at number three, while Clint Eastwood’s Changeling was at four in its second week of release.
Bond blockbuster Quantum of Solace took the fifth spot.

JEREMY PIVEN’s character in ENTOURAGE has inspired actors to fire their real-life agents, according to the star.
Piven plays Ari Gold, a straight-talking Hollywood representative, in the hit U.S. show - and the role has had a profound effect on actors who watch the series.
He tells New York gossip column PageSix, "The best are the other actors who tell me they’ve fired their agent because they want a rep who’s more like Ari.
All you can do is try to tell them not to base real-life decisions on fictional characters." But the actor is baffled by fans who confuse him with Gold - and often finds himself telling them his real name.
He adds, "A lot of fans scream ‘Ari!’ at me. It doesn’t annoy me. I go right over, tell them my real name and that I’m just the actor who plays Ari."

Oscar winner MARISA TOMEI studied rocker BRET MICHAELS’ raunchy reality show ROCK OF LOVE as part of her stripper research for new movie THE WRESTLER.
The actress tried pole dancing too - just to make sure she’d look authentic in her film debut as an exotic dancer.
She explains, "I had a friend who is a yoga teacher and she does a lot of pole dancing so I asked her to teach me. I went to a lot of clubs and watched to see the different styles of dancing.
"I would practice in a dance room with a bar and a mirror, like a ballet studio. I watched Rock of Love, that reality show with Bret Michaels, where he’s trying to get a wife and they’re all strippers. That was my closest association to the actual world of it." And her brief flirtation with the world of the stripper has brought Tomei a new love: "I like going to strip clubs now."

DOCTOR WHO star DAVID TENNANT is "gutted" he has been forced to pull out of another scheduled performance of HAMLET due to an ongoing back injury.
The 37-year-old had to scrap his Monday (08Dec08) night performance of the Shakespeare play at London’s Novello Theatre.
And the star was once again absent for Tuesday’s (09Dec08) performance, which was also press night where he was due to face London’s fiercest theatre critics.
But Tennant is desperately trying to shake off the injury, and hopes to be back on stage soon.
The play’s director, Gregory Doran, says, "David is gutted, not only at the thought of disappointing audiences, but also to be unable to perform a role that he has worked on and developed throughout 60 performances in Stratford-upon-Avon.
"Before this injury, he has only ever been off for one performance in his entire career to date, and is hoping that he will be able to return to the show as quickly as possible." The sold-out production, which also stars Patrick Stewart, is due to end its run on 10 January (09).

A naughty dancing scene in new movie BRIDE WARS had to be cut when ANNE HATHAWAY took it a little too far.
The actress decided to have a little fun with her dancing partner, not realising cameras were still rolling.
She explains, "My favourite part of the scene got cut out of the movie. At the end of it I run up to my partner and I did a handstand at his feet and wrapped my legs around his head and pulled myself up and then he grabbed my butt.
"I opened my legs wide, into a V, and I said, ‘F**k me!’" Co-star and producer Kate Hudson insists the X-Rated scene will be among the outtakes on the DVD.

A woman held over the death of actor MARK RUFFALO’s brother SCOTT has been cleared of involvement in his shooting, according to reports.
Shaha Mishaal Adham handed herself in to cops on Monday (08Dec08) after a warrant was issued for her arrest.
Scott Ruffalo, 39, was found outside his home in Beverly Hills with a gunshot wound to the head last week (01Dec08). He died in hospital on Monday after he was taken off life support.
Adham’s lawyer Ronald Richards told reporters it was his client’s case that Ruffalo had accidentally shot himself in the head.
And now Richards says he presented evidence proving Adham’s innocence to police during a five-hour meeting on Tuesday (09Dec08) - and that she has since been released from custody.
Adham insists she was at Ruffalo’s home to collect her car keys, and fled when he shot himself.

Rockers ARCTIC MONKEYS are set to stun fans by debuting their new album at a small gig in a New Zealand town hall.
The British band has yet to finish their third as-yet-untitled LP but is said to be planning to test out new material at a concert in Wellington on 13 January (09).
And those present will be the very first to hear the tracks, produced by Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme.
A source tells British newspaper The Sun, "It was supposed to be a secret.
The lucky few fans in Wellington were going to arrive thinking they were attending a little warm-up gig before the Big Day Out festival kicks off in Auckland on January 16.
"But, in fact, they will be the first to hear the new album. The lads have basically finished it. They just need to return to the studio to apply some finishing touches early next year."
