MCCARTNEY DENIES STEALING SONG

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:57 am

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY’s band THE FIREMAN has brushed off claims they copied a song by BLIND WILLIE JOHNSON, insisting the blues star’s track was merely used as "inspiration" for their own work.
McCartney and collaborator Youth have been accused of stealing elements of Johnson’s Let Your Light Shine On Me for their new song Light From Your Lighthouse, off their latest album Electric Arguments.
But the band denies breaching copyright - because Johnson’s own song was based on a famous gospel composition.
The duo tells NME.com, "It’s true that The Fireman used the Blind Willie Johnson track as inspiration for our own song.
"His is a traditional song and this is not the first time an artist has made their own version using such a traditional song."
