KNOWLES TO STAR IN X FACTOR DESPITE COWELL ROW

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:45 pm

Pop superstar BEYONCE KNOWLES is due to appear on U.K. talent show THE X FACTOR this month (Dec08) - casting aside her feud with show guru SIMON COWELL.
The Crazy In Love hitmaker will perform on the show’s finale on December 13 (08), despite Cowell once claiming she was "not sexy" and "not a good singer".
Knowles’ father hit back at the music mogul’s comments, saying, "Simon wouldn’t know a hit song, image or talent if it hit him in the face." Yet the show’s bosses are expecting the star’s performance to smash the viewing figures for Britney Spears’ appearance on the programme last week (29Nov08) - which attracted criticism after she mimed the words to Womanizer.
A show source tells British newspaper The Sun, "Beyonce and Simon can put their differences from years ago to one side. He is way past it.
"Beyonce singing live is something to behold and would just be brilliant."

CRASH SURVIVOR SUES GARRISON FOR CARE COSTS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:42 pm

A teenager injured in former PRISON BREAK star LANE GARRISON’s drink driving crash is suing the incarcerated actor for her parents’ loss of earnings while they cared for her.
Garrison was sentenced to serve 40 months behind bars after pleading guilty to a drink driving charge in October 2007.
He crashed his car while drunk and the accident left a 17-year-old passenger dead.
And now, fellow passenger Michelle Ohana has filed a suit at Los Angeles Superior Court seeking damages of $25,000 (£16,000) to cover her care costs following the crash.
According to TMZ.com, Ohana claims the actor "demonstrated a conscious and deliberate disregard for the rights, safety, and interests of others by voluntarily commencing, and thereafter continuing, to consume alcoholic beverages to the point of intoxication, knowing from the outset that he must thereafter operate a motor vehicle." Ohana’s parents, Robin and Asher Ohana, acted as carers for the then 15-year-old who was left wheelchair-bound for two months after the accident.
The suit claims losses for the "reasonable value of home nursing care gratuitously furnished by Robin Ohana and Asher Ohana".

AKON: MEETING JACKSON WAS MY ‘WEIRDEST EXPERIENCE’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:42 pm

R&B star AKON is eager to get back in the studio with MICHAEL JACKSON - because it was the "weirdest experience" he’s had with another musician.
The pair teamed up on the track Hold My Hand but the song was pulled from Akon’s new LP after it leaked online.
The Smack That hitmaker has suggested he’ll team up with the Thriller legend once again, but the collaboration can’t come soon enough - because meeting Jackson was the high point of his career.
He tells WENN, "I thought I was going to be (starstruck) on my way there but as soon as we met it was like we knew each other for years. It was the weirdest experience because he knew everything about me, and I knew everything about him. So when we met each other, it was like we knew each other forever… That was the epitome of my collaboration." Remembering some of Jackson’s more bizarre behaviour, he adds, "He only works at a certain time and keeps a lot of stuff hidden. He’ll launch it off a certain way and wants to surprise people."

LIGHTS ON SUNSET STRIP DIMMED FOR NIGHTLIFE ICON VALENTINE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:39 pm

Hollywood’s most famous music venues dimmed their lights on Friday night (05Dec08) to honour The Roxy founder and former Whisky a Go Go boss ELMER VALENTINE, who died in his sleep on Wednesday (03Dec08).
Bosses of the The Roxy, Whisky a Go Go, the Key Club, Viper Room and the House of Blues turned the lights down for a minute.
Music legend Lou Adler, who founded The Roxy with Valentine in 1973, says, "It’s somehow fitting that the man who turned the Sunset Strip lights on would be honoured by the lights of those venues that followed his imprint turning theirs off in a tribute to him." Born in 1923, Valentine joined the Chicago Police Department in Illinois after serving in World War Two.
He opened his first nightclub, PJ’s, in Los Angeles in 1960, shortly after relocating to the city. He returned to Los Angeles after a global trip and opened the Whisky a Go Go in 1964.
He and Adler opened the Rainbow Bar & Grill in 1972 and The Roxy Theatre the following year.

POTTER FAN TO PUBLISH REVISED GUIDE AFTER LOSING COURT BATTLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:39 pm

The HARRY POTTER fan who lost his court battle to publish an unauthorised guide to the franchise has announced plans to release a revised version of the project next year (09).
Steven Vander Ark said on Friday (28Nov08) that RDR Books will publish his Harry Potter Lexicon on 12 January (09), insisting the new version meets specifications laid out in the September (08) court ruling.
The 400-page project is an unauthorised guide to the seven novels written by J.K. Rowling, and is a print version of the online encyclopedia he launched in 2000.
A New York federal judge ruled in favour of Rowling in September (08), permanently blocking publication of the guide and awarding Rowling and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. $6,750 (£4,619) in statutory damages.
Rowling reportedly declined to agree to earlier offers made by Vander Ark to revise the book and remove any offending or copyrighted passages before publishing the reference guide.

FILM STARS AND FANS URGED TO BOYCOTT SUNDANCE OVER PROPOSITION 8 CONNECTION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:36 pm

Gay rights campaigners are asking Hollywood stars and film fans to boycott next year’s SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL in Utah, accusing one of the event’s backers of supporting California’s gay marriage ban.
According to political activist John Aravosis, Cinemark Theaters boss Alan Stock - a Mormon who owns a number of Sundance venues - made a personal $9,900 (£6,600) donation to support Proposition 8, which was passed last month (Nov08), outlawing same-sex unions in the Golden State.
A representative for the Sundance Institute has defended the festival - which was founded by Robert Redford - insisting all the movies screened at Cinemark Theaters are available at other cinemas.
But AmericaBlog.com editor Aravosis is dissatisfied, telling the New York Daily News, "If you go to Utah, you’re funding hate.
"Just moving movies around is not enough. Money from this festival is funneled directly to the Mormon Church and to a supporter of Proposition 8.
Sunshine should simply say they won’t screen films in a hate theatre." A Sundance Institute spokesperson says, "(The festival) has a long history and in fact was founded on the idea of championing diversity. It is our hope that people will embrace the festival for its commitment to diversity, not avoid it." Sundance will take place between 15 and 25 January 2009 in Park City, Utah.

CRAZY CUTHBERT COMMENT COSTS HOCKEY STAR AVERY SIX GAMES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:36 pm

Actress ELISHA CUTHBERT’s ex-boyfriend SEAN AVERY has been suspended from North America’s premier ice hockey league for six games after making lewd comments about the former 24 star during a pre-game television interview.
National Hockey League commissioner Gary Bettman dished out the punishment on Friday (05Dec08), stating Avery "has been warned repeatedly about his conduct and comments".
The Dallas Stars tough guy upset league officials on Tuesday night (02Dec08) when he referred to Cuthbert as "my sloppy seconds" as he poked fun at ice rival Dion Phaneuf, who is currently dating the actress.
Avery has since apologised for his comment, but that wasn’t enough for Bettman.
The commissioner said, "Playing in the National Hockey League is a privilege, requiring a high standard of personal behaviour. Mr. Avery forfeits that privilege for six games.
"Mr. Avery has expressed remorse for his recent comments and has sought a professional anger management evaluation. I will require that he follow through with that process as a condition of his returning to the ice, and that he complies with any and all recommendations."

MILANO FILES FOR RESTRAINING ORDER AGAINST ‘STALKER’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:33 pm

Actress ALYSSA MILANO has filed for a restraining order against an alleged stalker after he reportedly tried to break into her home on two occasions.
The Charmed star filed the petition in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday (05Dec08) claiming Jeff Turner, 54, has made frequent attempts to contact her over a two year period, including trying to enter her L.A. home without permission.
According to E! News, the documents accuse Turner of being an "obsessed and mentally unstable fan" who has made statements "indicating that unless restrained the conduct is very likely to continue".
Milano also asks for the restraining order to prevent Turner having contact with her immediate family, and that he must stay at least 100 yards from her and her home at all times.
A L.A. court hearing to decide if the order will be granted is set for 21 January (09).

BECK: ‘LED ZEPPELIN SHOULD STOP NOW’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:30 pm

British rocker JEFF BECK has slammed LED ZEPPELIN’s comeback plans - insisting it will be pointless without former lead singer ROBERT PLANT.
The 64-year-old legend - who played in cult British act The Yardbirds with Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page - praised the band’s huge one-off concert at London’s O2 Arena last December (07).
But Beck argues plans for a full-blown tour should be shelved without Plant, who has repeatedly refused to join his old band mates full-time.
He says, "I really don’t think it’s a good idea, not if Robert doesn’t want to. I was there at the one-off show at the O2 Arena and it was fantastic. But I think they should just leave it there.
"They will have been offered loads of money and it’ll be tempting but that’s not a good enough reason to me.
"It would be different if they all wanted to do it and record new material but that’s not the case." Plant finally killed speculation he would rejoin the band in September (08) by stating he has, "no intention whatsoever of touring with anyone for at least the next two years." His recent single with Alison Krauss, Please Read The Letter, has been nominated for Record of the Year at this year’s (08) Grammy Awards.
