TWILIGHT star ROBERT PATTINSON is still in shock over his rise to movie stardom - and credits his dad for helping him become a Hollywood sex symbol.
The British actor has been catapulted to stardom thanks to his role as teen vampire Edward Cullen in the movie adaptation of the cult book.
Pattinson is as surprised as anyone at his new found status as Hollywood hunk - and concedes he has dad Richard to thank for kickstarting his acting career.
He says, "It’s all a bit of a surprise, the acting and fame. I never did acting in school. My dad was in a restaurant and saw a bunch of pretty girls and decided to go up and ask where they had been.
"They said they went to this drama club, so he said we’d better go down too! It’s the only time he’s done something like that. We went down there and I began to work backstage.
"Then one day I was the only one left to play a leading role. That was the first acting I’d done and yet somehow I got an agent."

Legendary producer QUINCY JONES is to impart the wisdom of his 50 years in the music business during a speech at a major music conference next year (09).
The Grammy-winning pop impresario will act as the keynote speaker at next year’s (09) South By Southwest Music Conference in Austin, Texas, in March.
Jones will speak to delegates about harnessing the power of music to bring about positive changes across the globe.

OASIS star NOEL GALLAGHER has started sleepwalking at the age of 41.
The rocker has never had problems with the condition before but was recently shocked to wake up and find he had wandered out of his bedroom and down a flight of stairs.
And the star’s girlfriend, Sara MacDonald, alerted him to the problem.
He says, "I wasn’t drunk and hadn’t been out the night before. I can’t remember getting there. Sara came down and said, ‘Maybe you’ve been sleepwalking’.
"I was like, if I started sleepwalking at 41, life just keeps getting better and better. This is incredible. Where would you end up? You could end up anywhere. I haven’t done it since though."

Pop star LEONA LEWIS is to give her next album a rock influence - and is eyeing a collaboration with Irish band THE SCRIPT.
The Bleeding Love hitmaker - whose latest single is a cover of Run by Irish rockers Snow Patrol - is currently working on the follow-up to last year’s (07) Spirit and is determined to give the LP an edgier feel.
Lewis is lining up a variety of different bands who she wants to work with and Dublin-based trio The Script are top of her list.
She says, "I have a few tracks on this album which have a bit more of a rocky edge, so it’s kind of going in that way a bit more. It is going to be a live, organic feel.
"I think The Script are so talented and great guys, and if they did want to write with me in the future then definitely I’d be up for it. I think they are amazing. For the next album there are a few bands I am going to be working with, hopefully, and it is going to be a different direction."

Grieving singer/actress JENNIFER HUDSON has expressed her gratitude for four Grammy award nominations - telling fans succeeding as a recording artist was her "childhood dream".
The Oscar winner was named as the recipient of a clutch of nominations at the upcoming February (09) ceremony - for best R&B album for her eponymous debut, best female R&B vocal performance, best R&B song for Spotlight, and best R&B performance by a duo for her track with fellow former American Idol contestant Fantasia.
The announcement came on Thursday (04Dec08), in the same week her former brother-in-law William Balfour was charged with the October (08) murders of her mother, brother and seven-year-old nephew.
In a statement, Hudson says, "It’s been a childhood dream of mine to release an album so to receive four Grammy nominations is truly a blessing. I’m extremely honored and humbled by the nominations."

Guitar legend JOE SATRIANI is suing COLDPLAY for copyright infringement accusing the British rockers of plagiarising one of his songs.
Satriani filed a suit at Los Angeles federal court on Thursday (04Dec08), claiming the Yellow hitmakers copied segments from his 2004 instrumental If I Could Fly to use in their 2008 hit track Viva La Vida.
Viva La Vida - the title track from the group’s latest LP - shot to number one in the U.K. and U.S. and is nominated for a Song of the Year Grammy at the upcoming February (09) awards.
But Satriani - who has played with Mick Jagger and Deep Purple - is seeking a jury trial, damages and "any and all profits" because the track includes "substantial original portions" of his song.
A spokesperson for the band was not available for comment as WENN went to press.

British singer BOY GEORGE is facing a possible jail sentence after he was found guilty of falsely imprisoning a male escort at his home in London.
The former Culture Club frontman, real name George O’Dowd, was convicted of chaining Audun Carlsen to a hook in a bedroom at his east London apartment after suspecting him of tampering with his computer.
A jury at London’s Snaresbrook Crown Court returned the guilty verdict on Friday (05Dec08).
Judge David Radford told O’Dowd: "This is a case where custody is the more likely option." Norwegian Carlsen accused the singer of beating him with a metal chain as he tried to escape from the property. The model had earlier posed for naked photos at the apartment - but fell out with O’Dowd when the singer accused him of trying to get copies of the pictures from his computer.
O’Dowd admitted handcuffing Carlsen but claimed he had a legitimate reason to detain the model.
The singer is due to be sentenced on 16 January (09).

Rapper KANYE WEST has denied he has turned his back on rap for good - insisting he will always be a hip-hop performer.
The Stronger hitmaker has opted for a new sound on his latest record, 808s and Heartbreak, singing on the tracks instead of rapping.
And he was recently quoted as announcing he has finished with the genre, saying, "Hip-hop is over for me. I sing, not rap, on this album. I now want to be grouped among those musicians you see in those old black-and-white photos the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles." But West insists that his comments don’t mean that he will be giving up rap because the genre is so close to his heart.
He writes on his official blog, "I never said, ‘Hip hop is over!’ I perform hip hop every day of my life. Some paper out of the UK ran that as a quote. I’m in New Zealand and people have been asking me about it. I’ve done a hundred shows this year. Yo bottom line is I work. I work to death and people try to find negativity in the positive energy I put out. The almost superhuman amount of work I put out. People really have there (sic) feathers ruffled about this album don’t they? Good!"

Hollywood actor KEANU REEVES is adamant he won’t be starring in a proposed new sequel to his hit movie SPEED.
It was recently reported that movie executives at 20th Century Fox are keen for Reeves to reprise his role as Jack Traven for a second follow-up to the 1994 disaster movie.
The actor pulled out of the flop 1997 sequel, which starred Sandra Bullock and Jason Patric, and has now announced that if film bosses insist on making a third picture, he definitely won’t be involved.
He tells IGN Movies, "I honestly don’t know anything about it. I don’t know if they are going to make another one, and if they are it won’t be with me…
honestly!" But Reeves admits there is one film sequel project that he would be interested in - a third movie in his hit Bill & Ted franchise.
He adds, "Well you know, never say never… Maybe we could do it with them both grown up - they haven’t saved the world and they’re just living their lives as middle-aged men. That sound’s quite funny."

A bungee jump JIM CARREY took off a high Pasadena, California bridge for his new film YES MAN came back to haunt the movie star weeks after he took the plunge.
The funnyman insisted on taking the leap himself because he always knew he’d bungee at some point in his life - and at least his big jump would be caught on camera. But he had no idea he’d have dreams about hitting the ground.
He says, "Once I got up on the edge (of the bridge) it (mind) literally just started racing and (I had) every thought of death possible. It was like, ‘I could cross over here.’" But, with girlfriend Jenny McCarthy looking on, Carrey jumped.
He adds, "A week afterwards I went through post-traumatic stress; I had dreams of hitting the ground." But he’s still glad he took the plunge: "It was orgasmic, it was unbelievable."

GWYNETH PALTROW has officially quit her status as a movie star, so she can devote her life to her kids.
The Shakespeare in Love Oscar winner insists she ceased to be a ‘movie star’ when she gave birth to her first child, Apple, in 2004, and the priorities in her life changed.
Now she’s content to make just one film per year, and spend as much time as possible with husband Chris Martin, Apple, and two-year-old son Moses.
Paltrow says, "I haven’t starred in a film since my kids were born, and I don’t think I will. I’ll never get these days back - they’re so delicious and precious, and hilarious, I don’t want to miss them."

ROGER MOORE was author IAN FLEMING’s first choice to play JAMES BOND - and he almost landed the superspy role ahead of SEAN CONNERY.
Moore eventually replaced the Scottish star and portrayed 007 for 12 years, but he could have been Bond for much longer, had producers listened to Fleming as they were casting Bond’s 1962 debut Dr. No.
The actor reveals he was considered as the lead for the film.
He tells Entertainment Weekly magazine, "That’s what they told me, at least.
They also said I was Ian Fleming’s first choice. But Ian Fleming didn’t know me from s**t. He wanted Cary Grant or David Niven." Niven actually played Sir James Bond in 1967’s Casino Royale. The film is not considered one of the 22 official Bond films.

FAMILY GUY and AMERICAN DAD creator SETH MacFARLANE has been named the smartest man in TV, according to a new industry poll.
The animator tops the new Entertainment Weekly magazine power list after landing a $100 million (£66.6 million) deal from U.S. network Fox to keep his hit shows on the channel until 2012.

Actor NOAH WYLE’s return to E.R. was an emotional one - but he’s glad he made the choice to come back for the TV medical drama’s final run.
Wyle has just started shooting his return as Dr. John Carter and he admits there have been tears and hugs.
He says, "It’s like going to your closet and finding your favourite pair of jeans from high school and thinking, ‘That’s never gonna fit me,’ and you put it one and you go, ‘Woo-hoo, hey, that looks pretty good.’ It’s remarkably comfortable.
"It’s like going to a high school reunion; a family reunion. It’s very rich, lots of emotions." E.R. will end after 15 years in 2009.

Police in Los Angeles are hunting two people in connection with the shooting of actor MARK RUFFALO’s younger brother SCOTT.
The 39-year-old hairdresser is currently in a critical condition at an L.A.
hospital after he was reportedly shot in the back of the head outside his home on Monday (01Dec08).
And now detectives investigating the incident have announced they want to question a man and a woman in connection with the attack.
The pair has been identified as Brian Scofield and Shaha Mishaal Adham and described as "persons of interest".
Scott Ruffalo is married to fellow hairdresser, Luzelena, and is stepdad to her daughter, Lucinda.

Moviemaker Eddie Martin is piecing together magical moments from the rock icon’s life with the help of his family and friends.
And he’s still hunting down people who knew Scott, particularly a former lover, called Silver.
The director tells website Undercover.com.au, "She is definitely the one person we want to find. She was an Adelaide girl who lived with him in London after he broke up with (wife) Irene".
Aussie actor Tom Budge is reportedly among the favourites to portray AC/DC mainman Angus Young in the biopic, but no one has yet been cast to play the singer, who died in 1980.

Rocker COURTNEY LOVE has explained her unlikely fling with British comic STEVE COOGAN - putting the attraction down to the star’s resemblance to late music mogul TONY WILSON.
Love embarked on a two-week romance with the funnyman in 2005 while they were staying at the same hotel in Los Angeles.
And the former Hole singer is adamant that she fell for Coogan because he played the Factory Records founder in 2002 movie 24 Hour Party People.
She tells British Elle magazine, "I’ve seen 24 Hour Party People and my theory on why the whole thing happened is that I had a kind of daddy crush on Tony Wilson. And I transferred to Coogan because he plays WIlson."
