WILL SMITH credits TOM CRUISE with his record-breaking box-office success because the icon reviews his movie scripts before he takes on a new role.
The stars have become close friends over the years, and Smith admits he turns to Cruise for advice before signing on to a film.
Smith tells Newsweek, "I was so used to competition between other artists that I just didn’t get him at first. And then Tom just broke it down to me and said, ‘Will, we are not competing, so don’t think that way.’ That blew my mind because that is not how this business works at all…
"He looks over my scripts and everything. When I did I Am Legend, I sent him the script, and he sent me back four hours of notes and changes. He did more work on I Am Legend than I did.
"Now we’re looking at some projects to work on together because we have that basic understanding of each other."

SIMON COWELL has been rated "11 and three-quarters out of 10" in the bedroom by his pop star ex-girlfriend SINITTA.
The singer, who once dated Brad Pitt, briefly romanced Cowell in the 1980s and now works alongside the music mogul on his hit U.K. reality TV show The X Factor.
And she claims Cowell, who split from girlfriend Terri Seymour in September (08), does not disappoint when it comes to sex.
She says, "Sorry boys, it’s true, he’s rich and good."

Producers of hit TV series GOSSIP GIRL are set to delight fans - they want to film a spin-off show.
The series, which charts the lives of privileged teens in New York has been a huge hit and made stars of Chace Crawford and his fellow cast members.
And Dawn Ostroff, president of CW entertainment, admits the network is now in discussions with Gossip Girl producers about commissioning a new spin-off show.
She tells Hollywood Reporter, "Nothing really tangible yet, but we’re talking about it. If it’s the right idea, we’d all embrace it and be enthusiastic.
"But nobody more than (executive producers) Josh (Schwartz) and Stephanie (Savage) want to make sure there’s the right idea that they can wrap their arms around and really be excited about."

Actress JADA PINKETT SMITH has a new role - acting as son JADEN’s mentor as he stars in a remake of THE KARATE KID.
Jaden, Pinkett Smith’s eldest child with her movie star husband Will Smith, is forging his own Hollywood career after winning the part of Daniel Larusso in a remake of the hit 1984 film.
And Pinkett Smith will be behind the scenes playing a supporting role for Jaden, 10, who has previously acted alongside his father in 2006 movie The Pursuit of Happyness.
She says, "I’ll probably be playing stage mummy, which is not a role I play very well. My son said, I need you here just as mummy."

FROST/NIXON director RON HOWARD felt let down by former U.S. President RICHARD NIXON - because the filmmaker had once voted for him.
Howard’s new film is based on a series of interviews Nixon gave to British TV host David Frost in 1977 in which he admitted he may have broken the law in the Watergate scandal.
And the interviews had special significance for Howard - he had voted for Nixon to be re-elected as president in 1972 and admits he felt "betrayed".
He says, "I went into the interviews not as a Nixon hater, but having felt wounded by Watergate and betrayed as an American. The interviews were very cathartic to me."

Hit BATMAN movie THE DARK KNIGHT is to be re-released in U.S. cinemas in January (09).
The superhero film, starring Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger, originally hit the big screen in July (08) and has so far grossed more than $996 million (£678 million) worldwide.
And studio bosses have now revealed they plan to release the film once more across the U.S. on 23 January, a day after the announcement of this year’s Oscar nominations.
The re-release should take the box office total past $1 billion (£684 million), and Bale insists the success of the movie should guarantee an array of Academy Awards.
He says, "The serious contenders in this movie in my mind are Heath (Ledger), Chris (Nolan) for director because he’s done an extraordinary job, and I do believe Best Picture as well."

Actress LINDA FIORENTINO’s FBI agent boyfriend has been arrested after he was allegedly caught prying into confidential files about shamed private investigator-to-the-stars ANTHONY PELLICANO.
Agent Mark Rossini has been charged with five misdemeanour counts of illegally accessing FBI computers, during a six-month period in 2007, and has resigned.
According to the New York Post, Fiorentino - who has been dating Rossini for two years - is writing a screenplay about Pellicano, who has was convicted this summer (08) of using illegal wire taps to find out information about Hollywood stars.
Chris Rock, Steven Seagal and Tom Cruise were among those Pellicano was accused of prying on, and Rock was called to testify at his star-studded trial, which resulted in his conviction in August (08).
Fiorentino, 50, has reportedly been interested in the case for a number of years, and contacted Pellicano’s wife as early as 2005, in a bid to secure the movie rights.
Vanity Fair magazine writer John Connolly tells the New York Post he met Fiorentino that year, and helped arrange a meeting with Kat Pellicano - who he claims bizarrely revealed her husband was a fan of the Last Seduction actress and fantasised about having sex with her.
Washington D.C. news website Congressional Quarterly has quoted anonymous sources who allege Rossini agreed to confess his crime and resign, in return for misdemeanour charges, which will help him avoid a stiffer sentence.

Hip-hop legend GRANDMASTER FLASH is to release his first album of new material in more than 20 years.
The DJ, real name Joseph Saddler, has not put out an LP of original songs since 1988’s On The Strength.
In the late 1970s, he teamed up with fellow hip-hop pioneers to form Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five. The group released the genre-defining hit The Message, but split in 1983.
Last year (07), Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five became the first hip-hop/rap group to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The DJ will release The Bridge: Concept Of A Culture on 23 February (09). The record features guest appearances by Q-Tip, Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg.

Rockers JETHRO TULL are scared to play their rescheduled show in terror-hit Mumbai, India - but are adamant they will not be "hiding under the bed" in fear.
The veteran British band cancelled the 29 November (08) gig after gunmen swooped on the city and killed nearly 200 people in a massacre that shocked the world.
The concert will now take place on Friday (05Dec08) - but, following further security alerts in India this week (begs01Dec08), the rockers admit they are "nervous" about the show.
Singer Ian Anderson says, "We have all been outraged at the awful atrocities of the last week and were forced to take the decision to suspend the Mumbai concert in the light of the Taj Hotel siege which, at the time of cancellation, was still ongoing.
"In the light of new India terror warnings and airport alerts, we are all understandably a little nervous about the show, but hiding under the bed is not really an option." The band will play the concert along with special guest Anoushka Shankar.
Both acts plan to donate their artist fees from the show to local charities.

Rapper T.I. has no reason to slam rival SHAWTY LO following their altercation at the Dirty Awards in November (08) - he insists his bad-boy past is behind him.
The fourth annual hip-hop prizegiving, which was held at the Georgia International Convention Center in Atlanta, Georgia, had to be halted by authorities after scuffles between the pair’s entourages broke out.
The trouble began when Shawty Lo took to the stage to perform Don’t I - his version of Ain’t I, a track originally recorded by T.I.’s artist Yung L.A., which takes shots at T.I.’s Grand Hustle crew.
Shawty Lo later blamed T.I.’s inability to "contain his people" for the fight.
But the Live Your Life hitmaker insists he no longer has a problem with the star - despite a conversation to repair their damaged relationship not being "upheld".
T.I. tells MTV.com, "We spoke. I don’t know what that conversation meant.
Shortly after we spoke… I felt that that conversation, those words, weren’t upheld. It was just a lot of nonsense.
"Now, I just done blown way past that… What I told him really was, ‘I’m not trippin’." He adds, "There’s no place in my life for that. There was a time in my life where I wanted no more than to indulge in that kind of activity. I went around looking for it, welcoming it."

MADONNA has returned to her raunchy roots in an advertising campaign for luxury brand LOUIS VUITTON - she’s roped in the photographer behind her infamous Sex book to take the snaps.
The Material Girl poses as a French bar girl in the saucy images - which show her posing seductively in just fishnet tights and stilettos, with the fashion giant’s iconic handbag slung over her shoulder.
The pictures - which reportedly netted the star $9.85 million (£6.45million) - were shot by Steven Meisel, the top snapper who masterminded the controversial images released in her 1992 Sex book.
Madonna follows in the footsteps of Jennifer Lopez, Scarlett Johansson, and Uma Thurman as the latest face to promote the French fashion house.

The New York City apartment where HEATH LEDGER died has been pulled off the real estate market - after the tragic property failed to attract a tenant.
The Brokeback Mountain star died of an accidental prescription drug overdose in the three-bedroom SoHo loft in January (08).
The property was officially relisted on the rental market at a staggering $26,000 (£17,700) per month in late July (08), but letting agents have been unable to find an interested occupant.
And now a source at luxury real estate firm Corcoran Group tells New York gossip column Page Six the residence is "temporarily off the market".

OPRAH WINFREY has slammed failed Republican vice-presidential candidate SARAH PALIN - after she snubbed offers to be interviewed on the U.S. TV titan’s show.
Palin discussed her unsuccessful bid to reach the White House with U.S. hosts Greta Van Susteren, Matt Lauer and Larry King, but failed to appear as a guest on Winfrey’s popular daytime TV show - despite being invited.
And Winfrey is bitter about being ignored by Palin - insisting the Alaskan governor will be desperate to talk to her when she releases her memoirs.
She says, "I said I would be happy to talk to Sarah Palin when the election was over… I went and tried to talk to Sarah Palin and instead she talked to Greta. She talked to Matt. She talked to Larry. But she didn’t talk to me.

Baseball star ALEX RODRIGUEZ has spoken out about his reported relationship with MADONNA - insisting the pair are just "friends".
The sports hero and the pop superstar have been linked since his ex-wife Cynthia’s lawyer alleged the baseball player had an "affair of the heart" with the Material Girl singer.
Reports of a romance were further fuelled when Madonna announced her split from Guy Ritchie after seven-and-a-half years of marriage in October (08).

AUSTRALIA actress NICOLE KIDMAN has ruined her co-star HUGH JACKMAN’s hunky image - after revealing he fainted on the first day of shooting the BAZ LUHRMANN epic.
Kidman stars opposite the X-Men actor in the World War II blockbuster set in the Aussie outback.
In November (08), the pale actress admitted she had to be rushed to hospital after fainting on horseback while filming her scenes in the blistering heat.

She tells Britain’s The Independent newspaper, "Obviously, I’m very fair-skinned and that’s not where I’m at ease (the outback). I remember sitting on a horse and thinking, ‘Gosh, this is what you feel like before you faint,’ and then I fainted.
"Hugh fainted too on the first day. He keeled over on his horse at a 45-degree angle."

Superstar singer SHAKIRA will celebrate U.S. President-elect BARACK OBAMA’s White House victory - with a performance at his inauguration party.
The Hips Don’t Lie hitmaker is reportedly slated to join stars including Susan Sarandon, Spike Lee, and Anne Hathaway at the glitzy event in Washington, D.C. next month (Jan09).
She was a vocal supporter of Obama during his election campaign, telling reporters: "Obama can restore peace and the world’s confidence in the United States." In return, the Democrat voiced his admiration for the Colombian singer’s charity work in aid of Latin American children.
And Peruvian newspaper El Comercio reports that Shakira is now lined up to perform at a celebration to be held after Obama is formally sworn into office on 20 January (09).

Jewellery belonging to the late film star DEBORAH KERR have sold for more than $50,000 (£33,600) at an auction in London.
The collection was sold on behalf of the Scottish born star’s family and included a three-stone diamond engagement ring from Kerr’s first marriage to Squadron Leader Anthony Bartley, which sold for £33,600.
Other items on sale included a gold and turquoise snake-like chain that fetched $8,500 (£5,760), while an amethyst necklace, 19th century diamond ring, and a pearl, emerald and diamond bracelet also sold for thousands.
Kerr starred in classic movies such as From Here to Eternity and The King and I, and earned six Academy Award nominations for Best Actress before passing away in October 2007 after battling Parkinson’s disease.

RACHEL WEISZ has landed one of the most coveted roles in theatre - playing BLANCHE DuBOIS in TENNESSEE WILLIAMS’ A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE.
The British actress will begin rehearsals for the play in June (09) and take to the stage at London’s Donmar Warehouse in late July (09).
Weisz, who studied the playwright’s work during her time at Cambridge University, previously starred in another of Williams’ classics in 1999 taking the lead role in Suddenly Last Summer at the same theatre.
Weisz has not graced the London stage since 2001, when she starred in Neil Labute’s love story The Shape of Things.
