JOHN AND TAUPIN’S LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP
SIR ELTON JOHN and his songwriting partner of 40 years BERNIE TAUPIN have never written music in the same room.
The pair has formed an incredibly successful partnership, spawning a collection of hit records and gathering Grammy Awards.
But the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road hitmaker insists their partnership works because they are never together.
Speaking to pal Elvis Costello on TV music talk show Spectacle, John says, "I’m good at writing melodies and Bernie is great at writing lyrics. Even though we were living in the same place, there has never been a collaboration.
We have never been in the same room ever writing a song. He would probably kill me and I would probably kill him. I would never question it, it’s great.
"I value my relationship with Bernie more than everything else in my professional career. We’ve worked together for 40 years and never had an argument."
