Legendary British ska band THE SPECIALS will tour next year (09) - for the first time since their 1981 split.
Rumours of a reunion spread after several members of the band’s original line-up appeared at the U.K.’s Bestival show in September (08).
And the stars have now confirmed they will perform eight dates in Britain next spring (09).
The hugely influential band were a driving force behind the ska and punk movements in the late 1970s. Keyboard player Jerry Dammers was a famed campaigner against apartheid in South Africa, penning the 1984 protest song Free Nelson Mandela.

American radio personality BILL DRAKE has lost his battle with lung cancer at the age of 71.
Drake died on Saturday (29Nov08) in Los Angeles.
The disc jockey is credited with revolutionising radio in the U.S. during the 1960s with his fast-talking formula during his stints at Los Angeles’ KHJ and San Diego’s KGB stations.
He and partner Lester Eugene Chenault became highly-sought after over the next decade, though their company, Drake-Chenault Enterprises, dissolved in the mid-1980s.
Drake was developing a new Top 40 format for satellite radio at the time of his death.
He is survived by his daughter, Kristie Philbin.

Canadian rock star BRYAN ADAMS has called in cops - over fears he has been stalked by a crazed mother and son.
Adams, who lives in Chelsea, west London, has reportedly been hounded by the obsessed fans for a number of weeks.
The pair, believed to be Romanian, first approached the star in a restaurant requesting an autograph, and have since turned up at his home.
And now a concerned Adams has contacted police in the hope of warning off the pair.
A source tells London’s Evening Standard newspaper, "He doesn’t want them to get in any serious trouble, but he really wants to be left alone by them." A police spokesman says, "We are investigating allegations of harassment by a man in his late 40s. There have been no arrests and inquiries continue."

Singer CELINE DION is struggling to write songs - insisting she is "too busy" to pen new material.
The My Heart Will Go On hitmaker is currently embarking on a year long world tour that ends in February (09).
But the star, who has sold more than 200 million albums worldwide, reveals the hectic schedule has left her with little time to harness ideas for new tracks.
She says, "I wish I could write songs. I have a lot of ideas. A tune will come into my head and sometimes a lyric, but I never really sit down and try to make something from it. It’s just for me. And I think I’m too busy anyway."

Rapper 50 CENT is adamant no one is safe from the current global economic downturn - the crisis has already caused him some major financial problems.
The hip-hop star’s new album, Before I Self-Destruct, was slated to hit stores in the U.S. on 9 December (08). But he was forced to postpone the release until early 2009, because of fears that struggling music fans will be reluctant to splash out on luxuries like CDs.
And the star admits the credit crunch has also begun to affect his investments, losing him "millions of dollars" in decreasing stock values.
He says, "Pushing (the album) back was to position myself a little better.
I’ve lost a couple of million dollars already. I sit with my investors and business managers and accountants, looking at the numbers and I’m like, ‘Yo, the values of stocks in different areas are decreasing.’ So I take loss like everyone."

VICTORIA BECKHAM believes she is "blessed" - and insists she never reads stories about herself for fear of ruining her happiness.
The former Spice Girl claims she is "really happy" with her life - and is adamant she takes no notice of rumours about her and soccer star husband David.
And Beckham reveals that the couple’s movie star pals Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are similarly dismissive of stories in the press.
She says, "I’m just really happy. I wake up every morning and I think I’m so blessed. I don’t read the stuff that’s written about us. I’m not interested in gossip.
"Some of the people that I’m friends with in America - you know, Tom and Katie - they get it too and we laugh about all these stupid things."

MARIAH CAREY can look forward to plenty of romantic winter breaks in the future - her husband NICK CANNON has reportedly bought her a luxury ski chalet in Aspen, Colorado.
The rapper/actor, who wed the superstar in April (08), is said to have splashed out $1.5 million (£1 million) on a five-bedroomed ski lodge in the exclusive snow-filled resort as a Christmas present for his new wife.
A source tells British newspaper the Daily Mirror, "Nick is clearly still in the honeymoon phase. He’s shocked all their pals by going out of his way to buy Mariah this beautiful sanctuary. He knows Aspen is one of her favourite places in the world so this is his early Christmas present to her."

KATE BECKINSALE has gained an insight into the world of entertainment journalism after taking on a job at a U.S. newspaper to prepare for a film role.
The British actress plays a reporter in new movie Nothing But The Truth and she spent time shadowing journalists on the Los Angeles Times to gain some insider knowledge of the profession.
And Beckinsale admits it was an enlightening experience.
She says, "We are slightly sort of under the ‘us and them’ thing. It’s a little like enemy lines - but when I was there I found it was amazingly similar to acting. It was quite nice to go, ‘I kind of get it more than I thought I would’.
"People complain about the paparazzi and the paparazzi go, ‘Well, you put yourself out there’. And I had to have my character sort of think that way."

LINDSAY LOHAN has taken to her online blog to slam reports she is to split from girlfriend SAMANTHA RONSON.
The pair, who have been dating since earlier this year (08), have been dogged with rumours of a break-up following a spate of rows.
The couple was recently spotted arguing in New York, and Britain’s The Sun newspaper reported last month (Nov08) that they rowed outside London nightclub Boujis - with Lohan left "in tears" after the incident.
But the Mean Girls actress is sick of the rumours, and is adamant she and Ronson are still together.
She writes on her MySpace blog, "rumors.. Just to clear this up.. Because I have been getting a lot of emails asking me this one question. Samantha Ronson and Lindsay Lohan (me) are NOT breaking up," before ending the posting with a smiley face.

BRITNEY SPEARS has delighted fans by announcing the dates of the North American leg of her upcoming world tour - and she plans to take in twenty different cities.
The Toxic hitmaker, who released new album Circus on her 27th birthday (02Dec08), last week (beg24Nov08) announced her only two European dates in London for June (09).
And now Spears has confirmed the dates her American fans have been waiting for.
She’ll be performing in cities including Los Angeles, Dallas, and Washington on the tour that kicks off in March (09) and runs through until the end of April (09).
And fans are in for a double treat - The Pussycat Dolls will be supporting the singer.

QUANTUM OF SOLACE star JEFFREY WRIGHT has developed an obsession for Cadillac cars after driving one throughout new movie CADILLAC RECORDS.
The actor, who plays 007 informer Felix Leiter in the new Bond movie, admits it pained him to hand over the keys to the rented vehicle he drives in the film about the birth of R&B label Chess Records.
And now he’s determined to track down and buy classic Cadillacs whenever he can.
He explains, "I was driving across the Triboro Bridge in New York and there was a guy in a yellow ‘55 Eldorado on a flatbed (truck). Traffic was slowing up and I said to him, ‘You know whose car is that?’ He said, ‘Oh, somebody overseas bought it.’ "I’m tracking these things down now. I fell in love with these Cadillacs.
They’re just exquisite pieces of art. It really is the height of the automobile industry in this country." In the film, Wright plays blues great Muddy Waters. All of label boss Leonard Chess’ artists were handed the keys to Cadillacs upon scoring their first hit record.

JULIE WALTERS has been pushed to success in the movie business - because she is so terrified of failure.
The British actress, 58, has enjoyed a long and successful film career, picking up two Oscar nominations and a clutch of other awards, including a Golden Globe for her role in 1983’s Educating Rita.
And Walters is continuing to ride high in the entertainment industry with a prominent role in the Harry Potter franchise and a recent turn in box office smash Mamma Mia! But the star is convinced that her continued success is down to her constant worrying.
She says, "I think people are driven by various things and my life is driven by fear - it always has been. I was brought up in an anxious household and I think acting is based on fear." But Walters has found a way to disperse her negatives thoughts - a self-help book by Susan Jeffers titled Feel The Fear and Do It Anyway.
She adds, "Reading this book was a revelation. I’m not scared any more."

GOSSIP GIRL star KELLY RUTHERFORD is expecting her second child.
The 40-year-old and her entrepreneur husband, Daniel Giersch, are due to welcome the new baby in June (09), a representative confirmed to Usmagazine.com The actress, who plays Lilly van der Woodsen in the hit U.S. show, already has a two-year-old son, Hermès, with her partner.

Funnyman CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER isn’t laughing about the failure of his Broadway play AMERICAN BUFFALO - and he’s blaming one New York critic for the show’s early death.
The David Mamet play, which also starred Haley Joel Osment and John Leguizamo, opened to much hype on 17 November (08), but it closed after just eight performances.
And Barbershop star Cedric insists one reviewer in particular was responsible.
The bitter star says, "We got crushed by one critic, Ben Brantley from The New York Times. All you need is one to say bad things and he was the only one.
So, write your protest letters to Ben Brantley!" Brantley likened the revival to "a souped-up sports car’s flat tire, built for speed but going nowhere."

There’s a new couple on the set of GOSSIP GIRL - ED WESTWICK and JESSICA SZOHR are reportedly dating.
Westwick was rumoured to be involved with actress Drew Barrymore, but he has now sent gossips into a spin by apparently stepping out with co-star Szohr.
The couple was spotted canoodling at an airport in Dallas, Texas as they waited to catch a flight to New York on Sunday (30Nov08).
A source tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, "They were trying to be discreet by stealing kisses near the gate." The pair boarded the plane and, according to the source, "they were kissing in the aisles, but once they sat, she read her script and he drank a Heineken." A representative for both stars said, "We do not discuss our clients’ personal life." It wouldn’t be the first time romance had blossomed on the set of the hit teen drama - Blake Lively and Penn Badgley are dating after meeting each other through the show.

Reality TV star DUANE "DOG" CHAPMAN and his wife BETH SMITH have turned up the heat in the battle against their former agent after he reportedly attempted to move a legal hearing to New York.
Chapman found fame with his own U.S. TV show, Dog The Bounty Hunter, in which cameras follow him as he manages his bail bond business in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The star is in the middle of a legal battle against his ex-agent Boris Krutonog, claiming he negotiated a secret deal with TV network A&E for a producer’s fee for the show.
Now Chapman and wife Beth are said to be have discovered Krutonog has filed a claim with the New York Labor Commissioner to resolve the matter - even though the case is being dealt with by the California Labor Commissioner.
Website TMZ.com claims the couple wants the New York hearing dropped amid fears Krutonog has more of a chance of winning his case there than in California.
Chapman hit the headlines in November last year (07) after his son Tucker Chapman went public with an audiotape on which his father was allegedly heard making racial slurs.

New parents ASHLEE SIMPSON and PETE WENTZ are giving up baby duties on New Year’s Eve - to host a celebration party in Las Vegas.
Simpson, who gave birth to their son Bronx Mowgli last month (Nov08), will join her rocker husband and thousands of other partygoers to see in the New Year.

Lawyers acting for SIMON COWELL have warned U.K. newspapers not to harass the music mogul - after a journalist planted a bugging device underneath his car.
The American Idol judge became suspicious his movements were being monitored, and his fears were confirmed when a security sweep uncovered a hi-tech spy device attached to the undercarriage of his $211,000 (£140,000) Bentley Continental.
Cowell has since found out a journalist was responsible - and although he has decided not to call in the police, lawyers acting for the music boss have told newspapers to back off.
Cowell’s publicist Max Clifford says, "It is a step too far. He’s been in this business for years. We’re not making a song and dance about it, but it is unlawful.
"He is not a suspected terrorist. We’ve found out who the journalist is and we have decided to send out a note to the other papers asking them to refrain from that sort of thing."
