BRITNEY SPEARS regrets not fleeing Hollywood and "going home" to Louisiana after the break-up of her marriage to KEVIN FEDERLINE - because such a move might have saved her sanity.
The pop superstar suffered a breakdown at the beginning of 2008 and was twice admitted to hospital for mental evaluations as she battled for custody of her two young sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James.
And now, looking back, she wishes she’d driven south - to be with her family, away from paparazzi flashbulbs and constant media pressure.
In a candid MTV documentary, which aired on Sunday night (30Nov08), the singer said, "You would have thought that I would have gone home, like, I would have taken the kids and I would have gone to Louisiana.
"I think back now and I’m like, ‘Why didn’t I, in that fragile state of mind?’ I’m breastfeeding one kid and the other one’s with me and I have a nanny.
"Why didn’t I just up and go to Louisiana?"

BRITNEY SPEARS’ bizarre trips to coffee houses, garages and late-night pharmacies came about because the pop star hated life at home without her two kids.
In a candid MTV documentary, which aired in America on Sunday night (30Nov08), the pop singer revealed there was method behind her madness, which seemed to prevail after she divorced husband Kevin Federline, and she attempted to explain her odd trips out which became fodder for the paparazzi over Christmas last year (07).
Spears told MTV cameras she just didn’t want to be home alone: "My babies represented home… and every time I went home, it was like, ‘Oh God, I can’t be here, so when I was in my car and when I was driving, I was going somewhere." The Toxic hitmaker revealed she built a dream home in Malibu, California for her family, but when Federline won full custody of their young sons, she couldn’t bear to be there - or anywhere else that constituted home.
In the much-publicised documentary, Spears also revealed she longed to be able to go shopping without taking an army of paparazzi with her.
She explained, "Most celebrities have, like, three or four people on them and they can actually get their stroller out and walk their kids to the supermarket.
"I’ve seen Jessica Alba at the supermarket, my little sister goes to the supermarket with her baby; I can’t go anywhere with my kids."

SIR ELTON JOHN’s partner DAVID FURNISH wears a lock of the star’s hair around his neck for luck.
Furnish, who married the legendary musician in a civil partnership in 2005, admits that he won’t go to an important event unless he has the charm with him.
He says, "I have around my neck a little tiny locket and it has a lock of Elton’s baby hair and a picture of him as a baby. I wear it for important occasions - when I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and on airplanes. It’s a talisman that makes me feel protected, like I’ve got him with me all the time."

Pop star BRITNEY SPEARS has topped a list of the U.K’s most searched for subject on the internet.
The Toxic hitmaker was number one in search engine Yahoo’s Top 10 searches of 2008, with reality TV programme Big Brother coming in second.
British TV talent show The X Factor was the third most searched term, with rock band Oasis at number four and Disney film High School Musical 3 at five.
Rounding out the top ten was coverage of the U.S. election, singer Amy Winehouse, late Hollywood star Heath Ledger, supermodel Kate Moss and British soap opera EastEnders.

British soul star JOSS STONE stunned blues singer GUY DAVIS when phoned a local radio station in England to ask him to join her in the studio.
Stone was so impressed by Davis’ live set during an appearance on BBC Radio Devon, she placed a call to the Judi Spears show to set up a jam session.
Show producer Kevin Winser explains, "Joss called us to say she’d been listening. She and Guy spoke on the phone and are both keen to set something up." Stone is slated to release her fourth album next year (09).

MADONNA considered scrapping her headlining-grabbing concert at Los Angeles’ Dodgers Stadium when her stage came crashing down.
Part of the pop star’s set collapsed prior to her show at the baseball park, which featured guest spots from Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears, and she almost told her celebrity pals to stay away.
Chatting with Spears backstage as the two pop icons planned to perform together, Madonna told the Toxic singer, "I lost half of my stage and I was considering not doing the show; the whole lighting rig fell and I have a screen with video projection and it fell.
"If I can’t do it 100 per cent I don’t wanna do it at all, but there was no way to make it up. The show must go on." The candid backstage chat was caught on camera for Spears’ MTV documentary Britney: For The Record, which debuted in America on Sunday night (30Nov08).
In a brief interview about Spears, Madonna told MTV cameras the younger star had "a certain fragility about her and vulnerability about her that makes me feel maternal towards her."

MADONNA’s current world tour is set to rake in $282 million (£185.7 million) making it the biggest-selling solo jaunt ever.
The Holiday hitmaker’s Sticky & Sweet tour kicked off in Cardiff, Wales in August (08) and the run is due to end in Sao Paulo, Brazil later this month (Dec08).
Concert producer Live Nation said the star’s 28-date U.S. leg sold 550,000 tickets and grossed $91.5 million (£60.2 million).
Madonna held the previous record, having taken $193.7 million (£127.5 million) with her Confessions tour in 2006.

Actress MARY STEENBURGEN has a charity candle line.
The Parenthood star sells her wares through her RoomsandGardens.com online store and profits help benefit Heffer International, a charity which provides animals to people all over the world and teaches them to care for the creatures.
The actress says, "It (an animal) helps to lift them (people) out of poverty and they in turn pass on the gift." She’s planning to pass on the scented candles she makes as gifts this Christmas: "It’s my little green gift for Christmas because it lifts up people and the earth at the same time."

Comedienne TINA FEY doesn’t regret her infamous impersonations of SARAH PALIN on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE - because she dealt the same treatment to President GEORGE W. BUSH.
The 30 Rock star began mimicking Palin in the run-up to the American presidential elections last month (Nov08) and was blamed for the Republican party’s slip in popularity.
Palin then appeared on SNL and jokingly confronted the comedienne about her treatment - but Fey is adamant she was right to make fun of the Alaskan governor.

Actress and TV personality RICKI LAKE is shocked that she once tipped the scales at 270 pounds - but insists she slimmed down without resorting to surgery.
The star has lost 140 pounds from her all-time top weight and is now down to a svelte 130 pounds - and she is adamant she will continue to work hard to keep her trim figure.
She tells People.com. "I can’t believe I was a fat person for most of my life.
"I didn’t have surgery and I worked hard. There’s no secret. I’m active. I watch what I eat." But the talk show hostess feels under pressure to stay thin now she has shed her extra weight.
She adds, "According to Hollywood standards, I’m not a thin girl. I’m a normal girl. I don’t want to perpetuate that obsession but yet I am also guilty of wanting… to lose weight. I’m just grateful that I have sons and not daughters because it’s that much harder." And even though she has slimmed down, Lake doesn’t rule out putting it back on one day: "With the weight stuff I don’t have any answers. Something tragic in my life could happen and I could balloon and gain weight. I can’t promise I will be like this forever."

MERYL STREEP is up for a double delight at the 13th annual Satellite Awards she has been nominated for two Best Actress gongs.
The Oscar winner has been shortlisted in the Motion Picture - Drama category for her role in Doubt, and in the Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical category for her performance in Abba-themed show Mamma Mia! Slumdog Millionaire, Frost/Nixon, and Milk are among contenders for the prestigious Best Drama Movie Award, while Tropic Thunder, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and Happy-Go-Lucky make the shortlist for Best Comedy or Musical.
And British funnyman Ricky Gervais received a nod for his performance in Ghost Town - he has been nominated for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy in the International Press Academy event.

ANNIE LENNOX has vowed to help slash the number of HIV and Aids sufferers after witnessing first hand the tragic effects of the disease.
The former Eurythmics singer is an avid human rights campaigner and launched SING last year, a campaign to raise awareness and funds to support women and children living with HIV or Aids in South Africa.
An estimated 33.2 million people worldwide have the HIV virus, and Lennox is determined to reduce the amount of victims dying from the disease.
She says, "I have seen it for myself and it has changed my whole perspective.
I’ve visited hospitals and schools in townships and in rural districts.
"I’ve seen the funeral tents, children’s graveyards, coffins sold off the shelf in supermarkets; the skeletal, bedridden remains of men, women and children, glassy-eyed in the last stages before life’s exit.
"As a woman and mother I have a profound sense of empathy and outrage about this and I have vowed to do whatever I can to help change an unacceptable situation."

Music mogul SIMON COWELL has vowed to step up his security after a bugging device was reportedly found under his car.
The American Idol judge became suspicious his movements were being monitored after repeatedly spotting a mysterious biker at supposedly private meetings.
And his fears were confirmed when a security sweep uncovered a hi-tech tracking device attached to the undercarriage of his $211,000 (£140,000) Bentley Continental.
A shocked Cowell, currently in Britain as a judge on reality TV show The X Factor, is now considering calling in cops and increasing his protection.
A source tells British newspaper the Daily Mirror, "Simon is completely freaked out by this. He can’t believe someone has gone to so much trouble and expense to monitor his every movement. It’s extremely sinister.
"He was aware that someone, dressed in motorbike leathers and a crash helmet, kept turning up a few minutes after he went everywhere. He couldn’t work out how that person knew his movements.
"His security team found this tracking device under the car… Simon has his suspicions as to who is responsible. He is so angry he is considering calling in the police to investigate further."

In a candid MTV documentary, which aired commercial free in America on Sunday night (30Nov08), the pop superstar revealed the events of the past few years have left her mistrusting many of those who have made up her entourage for years - and she’s still learning who to trust.
She said, "I’ve been through a lot this year, actually the last two or three years and my trust has really been battered. I’ve definitely grown up, big time. I’m very weary of a lot of things. Very protective of myself.
"You are guarded, you have to be that way, otherwise you get taken advantage of and get in situations like I did.
"I had certain people in my life who were just bad people and I was very guarded at first but then I went to a point where I ended up letting them in, because I was lonely… and I really paid the consequences for that." Spears concluded the often emotionally-charged documentary, which chronicled 60 days in her crazy life from the eve of her 2008 MTV Video Music Awards appearance to the middle of November (08), by warning those from her past who plan to ruin her future.
