Veteran entertainer DEBBIE ALLEN will dance her way back to the big screen after movie studio bosses tapped the star to take on a new role in FAME.
Allen made her screen debut as a dance instructor in the 1980 film, and went on to recreate the part of Lydia Grant in the TV version - one of her best-known roles.
The movie follows dancers, singers, actors and artists from auditions to graduation at the New York City High School of Performing Arts.
Allen will be playing a principal in the remake, co-starring Kelsey Grammer, Megan Mullally and Bebe Neuwirth.
The film is scheduled for release on 25 September (09).

Real-estate tycoon DONALD TRUMP is the target of a new lawsuit accusing him of defaulting on a $640 million (£427.2 million) construction loan for a Chicago, Illinois property.
Deutsche Bank Trust Co. Americas bosses filed suit against Trump in New York State Supreme Court in Manhattan on Friday (28Nov08).
Executives claim Trump owes $40 million (£26.7 million) after violating terms of his debt contract with the company for his Trump International Hotel & Tower, reports The Chicago Tribune.
The building’s construction is scheduled for completion early next year (09).
An attorney representing Deutsche Bank has declined to comment, while Trump’s attorney, Steven Schlesinger, says he has yet to see the suit.

The jury in Eighties pop star BOY GEORGE’s false imprisonment trial has heard how the singer confessed during a police interview to handcuffing a male model at his London home.
The former Culture Club frontman, real name George O’Dowd, is accused of chaining male escort Audun Carlsen to a hook on his bedroom wall at his east London apartment after suspecting him of tampering with his computer.
O’Dowd has denied unlawfully detaining Carlsen - but on Monday (01Dec08), prosecutors played a recording of the star apparently admitting to handcuffing Carlsen during the incident.
In the police interview, played to jurors at Snaresbrook Crown Court, O’Dowd explained to cops that he suspected Carlsen had tampered with his laptop to obtain nude photos of himself from an earlier meeting between the two.
Prosecutors claim he told officers he was so angry about the alleged incident, he decided to handcuff Carlsen so he could be interrogated.
O’Dowd says on the tape, "He was so smug and was lying, saying ‘It wasn’t me’. I asked him to come (to my apartment) because I wanted to find out if this guy had borrowed my stuff." The singer goes on to detail how he had invited a friend around to ensure Carlsen didn’t leave "so I could check the computer and his phone".
He adds, "He struggled a bit… because he realised I wasn’t messing around.
I didn’t tell him the reason I was doing what I was doing. I said I just wanted to check something. He was saying: ‘Let me go’." And the singer admitted in the interview that he didn’t intend to do any more than question Carlsen, because killing the male escort "wouldn’t have done my career any good".
O’Dowd also told the court that he did not assault Carlsen, dismissing the model’s claims O’Dowd swung a chain at him as he tried to flee.
O’Dowd denies one charge of false imprisonment.
The trial continues.

Rapper WEBBIE’s concert in Florida over the weekend (28Dec08) was marred by violence - leaving one person in hospital suffering from stab wounds.
The hip-hop star performed in Boca Raton hotspot Club Pulse in Florida on Thursday (27Nov08), where around 700 fans had gathered to watch the MC in concert.
But the event came to an abrupt end in the early hours of Friday (28Nov08) when police were called to the scene after reports of gunshots being fired just outside the venue.
One man was found with knife wounds and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. No one was found shot and no other injuries have been reported.
It’s not the first time Webbie’s gigs have been linked to trouble - last month (24Nov08), a woman was left in a critical condition after being fatally shot in the head as she left the rapper’s gig in Thibodaux, Los Angeles.

R&B queen BEYONCE KNOWLES struggled with depression for two years when her former group DESTINY’S CHILD went through a series of line-up changes - because everyone blamed her for the band’s troubles.
Destiny’s Child’s original line-up consisted of Knowles, best pal Kelly Rowland, and childhood friends LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson.
But it was all change in late 1999 when Luckett and Roberson accused manager Mathew Knowles, father of Beyonce, of failing to pay them an equal share of profits and alleged he gave preferential treatment to his daughter and Rowland.
Singers Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin were hired to replace the disgruntled members and the new group went on to shoot the video to hit single Say My Name.
However, it was only when Luckett and Roberson saw the promo that they reportedly realised they’d been kicked out of the band. They subsequently filed suit against Beyonce, Rowland and their manager, claiming breach of partnership and fiduciary duties.
They settled out of court, but the Bills, Bills, Bills hitmakers soon became a trio - when Franklin quit just five months into the job.
Many critics held Beyonce responsible for the disputes within Destiny’s Child and she was targeted on blogs and in the press.
And the Crazy In Love star admits those were the darkest days of her career.
She says, "For a couple of years when I was 19 I suffered depression."

Pop star BRITNEY SPEARS has confessed she is desperate to get married again.
The Toxic hitmaker divorced the father of her sons Kevin Federline in November 2006, and had a short-lived marriage to childhood friend Jason Alexander in 2004.
But Spears, mother to Sean Preston, three, and Jayden James, two, insists her previous bad experiences have not put her off getting wed for a third time.
She tells Glamour magazine, "In five years I would like to be married and have a father figure for my kids, someone who is a provider and can be really stable. It’s hard doing it on your own."

The industrial estate used to film British comedian RICKY GERVAIS’ hit TV comedy THE OFFICE has been destroyed after a massive explosion ripped through the area.
Firefighters were called to Slough Trading Estate in Berkshire, south England on Monday (01Dec08) morning to tackle the fire that had engulfed the buildings following the loud explosion.
The cause of the incident has yet to be determined but police do not consider it to be suspicious. No injuries had been reported as WENN went to press.
The original U.K. version of The Office was filmed at the estate between 1999 and 2003.

Italian screenwriter ENNIO DE CONCINI has died at the age of 84.
De Concini, who won an Academy Award in 1962 for his film Divorce - Italian Style, passed away on 17 November (08).
In addition to the comedy, for which he won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar, De Concini also worked on films including The Cry, European Nights and Black Sunday.
He also directed films including 1973’s Hitler: The Last Ten Days, one of his best-known works, and enjoyed success as a television writer later in his career.

Hollywood actress KATE BOSWORTH is adamant she will never open up about her private life - because she fears it will alienate her fans.
The Superman Returns star, who is dating British musician James Rousseau, rarely discusses personal issues with the press.
And she insists she won’t copy fellow celebrities who openly air their problems - as she believes the public don’t want to know.
Bosworth says, "Some people talk about their personal lives a lot. I try not to, unless it’s more of a generality. I don’t want to broadcast my personal life because I feel it’s off-putting.
"People are like, ‘Oh, shut the f**k up. Cry me a river.’ Who wants to hear the reality, really? You can’t win."

Actress PATRICIA MARAND has died after losing her battle with brain cancer. She was 74.
The Broadway star passed away on Thursday (27Nov08) at her Manhattan home.
Marand is best-known for her role as Lois Lane in the hit 1966 Broadway musical It’s a Bird… It’s a Plane… It’s Superman, which earned her a Tony Award nomination.
She also appeared on Broadway in 1952 musical Wish You Were Here and was a regular on 1960s U.S. TV talk show series, The Merv Griffin Show.
Marand is survived by her husband, Irving Salem.

Actress GABRIELLE UNION has urged gossip mongers to fuel rumours of her alleged romances with celebrity pals such as LUDACRIS - because it helps her hide the men she’s really dating.
The Ugly Betty actress ended her five-year-long marriage to American football star Chris Howard in 2006, and has often been linked to the famous rapper and other leading men.
And she admits the rumour mill has helped her dating life.

Director RON HOWARD nearly scrapped his plans for a pro-BARACK OBAMA video before he even began filming - because he was convinced celebrities had no place in politics.
The moviemaker reprised his role as Opie Taylor, from The Andy Griffiths Show, and acted alongside his former Happy Days co-star Henry Winkler for the video endorsement.
But Howard admits his passion for the U.S. President-elect’s campaign pushed him to make his foray into politics leading up to the November (08) election.
He says, "I’m actually one of those people that thinks celebrities should be very cautious about that sort of thing. But I felt so strong about the situation, and I had this idea that I thought could cut through the clutter.
I’m glad it was, for the most part, received in the spite in which it was given. And I’m really thrilled that the nation chose Obama."

TWILIGHT director CATHERINE HARDWICKE is already making big plans for a sequel to the hit film - even though she’s yet to be handed the job.
The filmmaker scored the biggest debut ever for a female director when the vampire love story shot to number one in the U.S. late last month (Nov08) - and talks of a follow-up movie are already underway.
Hardwicke has been in talks with Hollywood bosses and is excited about the prospect of shooting New Moon, the second installment in author Stephanie Meyer’s cult books.
She tells MTV, "Well, right now we’re trying to figure out if the studio people, and me, and everyone’s on the same page.
"I want to do (New Moon) better than we did Twilight, and do it really cool.
I definitely don’t want to do it as something just tossed off, like a Saw II or something like that. We want to be sure that it’s really going to be great and that everyone’s on the same page.
"I would say that the film could be finished by the end of 2009, if not the beginning of 2010; cameras could be rolling in about five months. We spent about a year and three months getting (Twilight) ready, between writing the script and casting. We could probably do things a little bit faster this time, but who knows? It depends." But Hardwicke confesses she’s yet to sign on the dotted line - so her efforts may be in vain.
She jokes, "Where’s my crystal ball? I need a crystal ball, I need a fortune teller. I hope (I make New Moon), but you just have to see if everything can work out. I don’t know."

Pop punk PINK was left fuming after a night out in Hollywood on Sunday (30Nov08) - when she discovered MISCHA BARTON’s ex, BRANDON DAVIS, had crashed into her parked car.
Members of the paparazzi caught oil heir Davis on camera as he left a liquor store on Sunset Boulevard in the early hours of Monday (01Dec08) and jumped into his Mercedes.
But as he attempted to drive away from the snappers and out of the parking lot, he accidentally backed into a BMW - which belonged to Pink.
The So What hitmaker came out of the nearby Viper Room club moments later and when she saw the damage caused to the door on the driver’s side, confronted Davis to get his insurance details.
The pair swapped numbers and both parties left the scene of the smash, with Pink allegedly overheard voicing her desire to check out the paparazzi footage to see for herself exactly how the incident happened.

Classic songs from QUEEN and STEVIE WONDER are among 28 recordings that have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
Queen’s 1977 double A-side single We Are The Champions/We Will Rock You and Wonder’s 1968 hit For Once in My Life were chosen by a special member committee of experts and historians drawn from all branches of the recording arts.
The Hall of Fame, which was created in 1973, now includes 826 titles and will form part of the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles which opens on 6 December (08).
Other works that have been inducted are Police’s 1983 album Synchronicity, the soundtrack for the film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Jimi Hendrix’s rendition of The Star Spangled Banner, and the Love Theme from The Godfather.

TRAVIS BARKER will ring in the new year by reuniting with his DJ pal ADAM GOLDSTEIN to play a special New Year’s Eve bash - their first gig together since their near-fatal plane crash in September (08).
The former Blink-182 drummer and Goldstein, also known as DJ AM, suffered second and third-degree burns and other injuries from their Learjet escape.
They were the only survivors of the South Carolina tragedy, which left four others dead.
But the pair will team up to headline the New Year’s Nation’s Los Angeles New Year’s Eve Party at The Lot in West Hollywood on 31 December (08).
The gig will be streamed online and broadcast at other New Year’s Nation parties across the U.S.

JAMES FRANCO’s kiss with SEAN PENN in HARVEY MILK biopic MILK left him feeling uncomfortable - because his co-star wanted to act out a full-on love scene.
Franco, who plays San Francisco politician Milk’s gay lover Scott Smith in the Gus Van Sant film, knew he’d have to pucker-up with Penn - but was shocked when the director told him the Colors actor wanted to take it further.
He tells Elle magazine, "In the original script I read, there was only one real kissing scene.
"A month after Gus asked me to do it, they sent me another script, and on Page 5 there was a full-on love scene. And I was like, ‘Gus, what the heck?’ He says, ‘Well, it was Sean’s idea’."

TOM CRUISE and leading retail website Amazon have blasted claims the actor was behind a decision to stop selling a controversial book about the Church of Scientology.
Amazon bosses pulled The Complex from their website amid fears it contained controversial claims which could be defamatory to some of the religion’s followers.
Author John Duignan has told the New York Daily News he believes Top Gun star Cruise’s goodwill visit to the company’s headquarters in Seattle, Washington last month (Nov08) might have prompted the ban.
But Cruise has vehemently denied he had anything to do with the decision and Amazon bosses insist the book was pulled because it possibly contravenes Britain’s strict libel laws.
In a statement, company bosses said: "U.K. law gives us no choice but to remove the title from our catalogue." Cruise has been a follower of Scientology since the early 1990s and is one of its most famous and outspoken supporters.
