Democrat-supporting rocker CHRIS MARTIN was confused through this year’s (08) U.S. presidential elections - because he harboured a secret crush on failed Republican vice-president SARAH PALIN.
Republican presidential candidate John McCain picked the Alaskan Governor to be his running mate in a bid to get voters on his side in time for the elections earlier this month (Nov08).

The author of hit U.S. show DEXTER is such a fan of the TV adaptation of his best-selling book he is making a cameo alongside the series’ star MICHAEL C.
HALL.
Writer Jeff Lindsay penned Darkly Dreaming Dexter, the debut in a series of crime novels, which were used as the inspiration in the grisly TV hit.
And Lindsay was so impressed at how network bosses have transformed his ideas into a watchable show, he jumped at the chance to appear in an episode.
He says, ""It’s Hollywood. Everybody knows Hollywood gets hold of wonderful ideas and ruins them.
"(But the producers) really know what they’re doing." The author will play a vice detective guarding a hospital room in an episode set to air on America’s Showtime cable channel on Sunday (30Nov08).
The show’s September (08) season three premiere proved such a hit that network bosses have commissioned another two series just a month after it returned to the air.

TYRA BANKS doesn’t have to worry about the future of one of her TV projects network bosses have given the green light on a new season of her hit show AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL.
The supermodel-turned-TV presenter is facing a raft of cuts to her daily talk show as U.S. networks feel the pinch of the global economic downturn.
The Tyra Banks Show is to move to CW network’s afternoon slot and will see the production schedule cut from 34 weeks to just 26 in a bid to slash costs, after it suffered a nine per cent ratings slump since last year (07).
But the star’s modelling contest, which completed its 11th cycle earlier this week (begs24Nov08), will be back in spring 2009.

The Los Angeles judge overseeing MEL GIBSON’s lawsuit against the co-screenwriter of his epic film THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST has ordered the star to attend court for a disposition.
On Monday (24Nov08) L.A. Superior Court Judge Gregory W. Alarcon told Gibson’s lawyers that it was likely the Lethal Weapon actor would be made to answer questions at a pre-court testimony to get to the bottom of the money spat with writer Benedict Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald is suing Gibson, who directed the controversial religious epic, over accusations he cheated the screenwriter out of millions of dollars in potential earnings. He alleges he was swindled out of millions as the star advised him the movie’s budget was between $4 million and $7 million (£2.6 million and £4.6 million).
He was only paid $75,000 (£49,340) and had to borrow $200,000 (£131,580) from Gibson to cover expenses. The Passion Of The Christ went on to gross an estimated $600 million (£400 million) worldwide.
And on Tuesday (25Nov08) night, the judge demanded that Gibson appear at a disposition before the end of January (09), despite Gibson’s lawyers claims that the star is too busy working on his latest film, Edge of Darkness, to appear in court.
Fitzgerald also accuses Gibson of eroding his payments by attaching his kid’s school bills to the movie’s budget, as well as a $78,000 (£52,000) chiropractor bill.

One of the brothers charged with shooting dead rapper T.I.’s best pal has been convicted of murder at a Cincinnati, Ohio court.
Hosea Thomas was found guilty on Wednesday (26Nov08) of slaying 26-year-old Philant Johnson in a drive-by shooting which occurred in May 2006.
The jurors in the trial found Thomas guilty on all 11 counts in the case against him, including murder, five counts of felonious assault and illegally possessing a gun after a felony conviction.
According to MTV.com, it took the jury less than a day of deliberating to concur a guilty verdict.
Thomas, who was arrested along with his brother Pardon Thomas in June (08), will be sentenced next month (Dec08). He can expect a minimum of 20 years behind bars.
T.I. - real name Clifford Harris Jr. - testified in the case on Friday (21Nov08) telling the court how he believed the bullets that killed his childhood friend were meant for him, saying: ""All of those rounds were fired for me, in my opinion." The incident happened after a disagreement at Bogart’s nightclub in Cincinnati, Ohio. T.I.’s entourage left the nightclub, only to be pursued by Johnson and his group, who began shooting at the rapper’s vehicle. Three men were injured in the shooting, but T.I. escaped unscathed.

"When I was younger they’d think it funny to have me play running back and try to block my brother Daniel who was twice my weight. I’ve broken bones to show for it."

NATALIE PORTMAN turned down the chance to play a nun opposite movie great MERYL STREEP in DOUBT - because she can’t get her head around celibacy.
The actress was at one point very interested in the movie adaptation of John Patrick Shanley’s hit play - but she turned the part down because she couldn’t see herself as a lifelong virgin.
Speaking to website GossipSauce.com, the playwright, who directed the movie, says, "We asked Natalie Portman, and Natalie was very interested but kept saying she had a problem. And we finally nailed down as to what the problem was: she basically said she didn’t understand celibacy."

Mercedes Benz bosses refused to let moviemaker DANNY BOYLE use one of their cars in his acclaimed new movie SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE - because the motors are driven by Indian gangsters in the film.
The Trainspotting director wanted to be as authentic as possible when it came to showing the Indian underworld without busting his tight budget, so he approached Mercedes and asked them to loan him a vehicle in return for product placement.
The car ginat seemed happy to help - until they realised who would be driving the car in the movie.
Boyle says, "Mercedes don’t want one of their cars driving around the slums in India, which they do because the gangsters drive them." So Boyle had to rent a Mercedes - because any other car would have been out of place: "It’s the status symbol. It would’ve been completely fake for me not to do it in a Mercedes." And he had other issues with product placement, which would have boosted his budget.
He adds, "Coca-Cola don’t want to be seen in a rubbish dump (scene) giving drinks to (the orphaned) children, so we had to change the brand.
"It bugs me badly because a film like James Bond opens and it’s just a walking advertising board for luggage, wristwatches, f**king credit cards; it’s just obscene. The fact that we were banned from using something that’s a real part of life is incredible.
"We had to pay for the Mercedes car; it was a day hire. I personally think it’s awful."

CATHERINE HARDWICKE is in talks to follow-up her record-breaking TWILIGHT movie by directing the sequel NEW MOON.
The filmmaker scored the biggest debut ever for a female director when the vampire love story shot to number one in the U.S. on Sunday (23Nov08), and she’s keen to get cracking on the sequel - so her young cast doesn’t change beyond recognition.
She tells USA Today newspaper, "(Twilight star Taylor Lautner) told me the other day that he had gained 14 pounds since I last saw him. He’s only 16." The sequel has already been greenlit by executives at Summit Entertainment and the New Moon script is already completed.
Twilight stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will reportedly earn $12 million (£8 million) each for the sequel.
