Australian actress BROOKE SATCHWELL had a narrow escape from the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India on Wednesday (26Nov08) - after the hotel she was staying in was raided by gunmen.
The 28-year-old, who found fame in the popular TV soap Neighbours, had been staying with pals at the Taj Mahal Hotel when the trouble erupted.
She stepped outside for a cigarette when she heard gunshots, and headed back inside - only to realise the attackers were killing people in the hotel.
Satchwell reveals she hid with other terrified guests in a bathroom cupboard as innocent victims were being shot just feet away.
She says of the harrowing ordeal, "There was (sic) people getting shot in the corridor. There was someone dead outside the bathroom." Guests were then hurried out by staff and helped to safety - although some were held hostage at the hotel by the militants.
She adds, "Next thing I knew I was running down the stairs and there were a couple of dead bodies across the stairs. It was chaos." More than 100 people were killed and hundreds more injured in a series of attacks in the city on Wednesday night. Hostages held at the Taj Mahal Hotel have all reportedly been freed.

Singer JORDIN SPARKS has teamed up with U.S. fashion retailers Wet Seal to create her own line of dresses.
The No Air star has named her Wet Seal line Sparks, and she hopes to expand the range to include casualwear and accessories in the near future.
She says, "I am so excited that Wet Seal and I have been able to create a line of clothing that will appeal to more girls than ever before. The holiday season is my favourite time of year, and I can’t wait to see girls look cute, feel good and celebrate in style." BRITNEY SPEARS’ mother LYNNE has praised the star’s parenting skills insisting that despite the media circus around her, she is a "normal" mother.
The Womanizer hitmaker has two boys with ex-husband Kevin Federline - Sean Preston, three, and Jayden James, two.
And even though the singer is constantly hounded by the press, she makes sure she has fun with her sons when they spend time with her.
Lynne Spears tells British morning show GMTV, "She’s a wonderful mother.
She’s funny, she’s extremely affectionate. She’s just a normal mother.
"Well, she is a normal mother but when you throw her in front of the cameras I guess everybody’s going to act a little different. You’re very guarded. But in the home where there’s nobody around, she’s very normal."

SIMON COWELL’s ex TERRI SEYMOUR is horrified by reports she ditched the music mogul by text message - insisting that would be too impersonal a way to end such a long-lasting relationship.
The couple dated for more than six years, until Seymour called time on the relationship in September (08).
Cowell later told a U.S. news show he was dumped by text, but Seymour insists that wasn’t the case.
And she is adamant the split had nothing to do with Cowell’s admitted lack of interest in settling down and starting a family.
She tells Britain’s Hello magazine, "You’re with someone for six years and you end it by text? I don’t think so! No, it wasn’t ended over the phone and it wasn’t ended by text.
"It wasn’t because he wouldn’t marry me and wouldn’t have children. We were never going to get married and Simon never wanted children. That wasn’t even a factor, because I always knew that he never wanted kids, dating back to the time when we were friends before we started going out with each other." Model/TV presenter Seymour has also refuted claims Cowell gave her a multi-million dollar settlement as a parting gift - because she has always been able to support herself financially.
She adds: "I was horrified when I read that he’s supposed to have given me $10 million or whatever. I was like, ‘Why?’ I’ve worked myself since I was 12 years old. I’ve always been very independent and I’m lucky that I still work like I do."

SAMUEL L. JACKSON used his own confrontations with racist cops as inspiration for his role in latest movie LAKEVIEW TERRACE.
The Pulp Fiction star plays bigoted policeman Abel Turner in the film, and admits his personal experiences with law enforcement officers helped him play the part.
He tells British newspaper The Times, "I drew on cops in my life who are like Abel. I have been pulled over legitimately because I was doing something wrong, and I been pulled over because I was black in the wrong place and my car was too nice.
"I have been pulled over in Mississippi; that was frightening. But the guy was like, ‘Hey Mr Jackson, sorry’. I have been pulled out and spread out in the middle of the street and laid face down.
"Even in L.A. cops looking at me going: ‘You look familiar.’ And you just gotta say ‘Oh, OK’. Because you don’t know if he’s talking about a wanted poster that he saw today or he actually saw a movie of mine and can’t quite put that together." Jackson has even stared down the barrel of a gun when confronted by thugs but insists he uses the terrifying experiences to help his work.
He adds: "I’ve had guns pulled on me. Of course I have. It’s America. People pull guns on you in America. So you use all that."

British pop singer LILY ALLEN has hit out at the obsession with celebrity culture - branding it a bad influence on young people.
The Smile hitmaker believes constant media exposure can be unhealthy for some young stars - although it has its upsides for Allen as it means she gets paid "ridiculous amounts of money to DJ at nightclubs".
She tells British newspaper the Daily Star, "There are definitely things that come out of it that are really good. But there are bad things that are really bad not just for me. I don’t think celebrity culture is very healthy for young people at all. At the same time I get the benefits."

Actor CHRISTIAN SLATER has ruled out returning to London’s West End - because he likes going on holiday too much to commit to a long theatre run.
The star has previously appeared in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in 2004 and more recently in an adaptation of 1994 film Swimming With Sharks in the U.K.’s capital.
But he is adamant that was his last stint in a theatre role and he will stick to movies from now on.
He tells British newspaper The Independent. "I love it but I’m not coming back. I’m only doing films now. Vacation and films."

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY has the ideal veggie substitute for Christmas turkey - he eats macaroni cheese with his roast dinner.
The former Beatle, who became a vegetarian in the 1970s, has revealed how he and late wife Linda stumbled upon the recipe during their first attempt at making a meat-free festive feast.
He tells British newspaper the Daily Express, "We had all the trimmings but we needed something to simulate the turkey. So Linda made macaroni cheese. It was good, then she let it stand so it went solid and I was able to slice it. It kind of worked so we called it the macaroni turkey."

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE could soon be returning to his musical roots if LANCE BASS has his way - the singer is keen to reunite 90s boyband ‘N SYNC.
The Bye Bye Bye hitmakers split in 2002 and the stars went on to pursue solo projects - but Bass wants to bring the band back together to record new material.
He tells In Touch, "It’s a definite possibility. We are like brothers - it’s perfect." Bass, who finished third in the final of U.S. reality show Dancing With The Stars earlier this week (beg24Nov08), has been bombarded with offers since his appearance on the hit show - but music is the only thing on his mind.
He adds, "There are so many crazy doors opening. There is talk of putting an album together next year, but I would much rather do it with ‘N Sync. So we are going to be talking about that."

MADONNA has further fuelled rumours she is dating baseball star ALEX RODRIGUEZ after he sat in the front row at a concert on her Sticky & Sweet tour.
The sports hero was linked to Madonna after his ex-wife Cynthia alleged he had an "affair of the heart" with the Material Girl singer.
Madonna has since divorced movie director husband Guy Ritchie after nearly eight years of marriage, and has also reportedly introduced Rodriguez to friends including Gwyneth Paltrow.
Rodriguez was spotted watching the singer at her Miami, Florida concert on Wednesday (26Nov08) - and Madonna is said to have sang You Must Love Me to the athlete, who was sat in prime position at the gig.
She also accepted a bottle of water offered to her by the star, who was seated next to her manager Guy Oseary and singer Rod Stewart.
A concertgoer tells E! News, "It was easy for him to hand it off because he was sitting in the front row. He was all excited watching her perform."

President GEORGE W. BUSH’s mother BARBARA BUSH is expected to spend several days in hospital after surgery for a perforated ulcer.
The former first lady, 83, was taken to a medical centre in Houston, Texas after suffering stomach pains on Tuesday (25Nov08).
She was due to be released the following day, but a spokeswoman for the hospital has now revealed the extent of Mrs Bush’s condition, confirming she had an operation after a series of tests.
Ami Felker says, "She underwent routine, laparoscopic surgery (on) Tuesday night to correct a perforated ulcer. She was resting comfortably Wednesday morning, and visiting with her family." The spokeswoman added that Mrs Bush is expected to be released from hospital next week (begs01Dec08).
She is married to George Bush Sr., who was the 41st President of the U.S. and served in office from 1989 to 1993.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER creator CRAIG THOMAS has urged wannabe parents to visit the set of his U.S. sitcom - after both COBIE SMULDERS and ALYSON HANNIGAN fell pregnant while filming the show.
Smulders, who stars as TV reporter Robin Scherbatsky in the hit series, announced on Wednesday (26Nov08) she is expecting her first child with American comedian Taran Killam, just a month after co-star Hannigan confirmed her own pregnancy.
And Thomas, who enticed Britney Spears to make an acclaimed cameo on the show earlier this year (08), has joked that he must work with the most fertile actresses in the industry.
In a statement, he says, "Everyone’s tremendously excited by all the impending motherhood here at How I Met Your Mother. We’re all so happy for Cobie and Aly, who will undoubtedly be amazing moms! "And now, a public service announcement: If you’re trying to start a family, please come visit the set of How I Met Your Mother. Just come by and hang out for a day or two. We can’t legally guarantee anything, but by the time you leave, you will almost certainly be pregnant."

British heart-throb ROBERT PATTINSON’s weight plummeted as he filmed vampire movie TWILIGHT - because he virtually lived in the gym.
The Brit star put himself on a punishing exercise regime during filming, sometimes working out for five hours a day.
And it was only after intervention from the film’s director that Pattinson realised he was overdoing it.
He tells Entertainment Weekly, "I used to go to the gym for about five hours a day but then I started losing so such weight. My head started to look really huge in comparison to the rest of my body.
"(Director Catherine Hardwicke) came up to me and said, ‘What are you doing to yourself?’. (To gain weight,) I literally stopped exercising. Eating a cheeseburger after two-and-a-half months of doing that - it tasted like ambrosia."

Celebrity photographer ANNIE LEIBOVITZ insists her controversial MILEY CYRUS shoot for Vanity Fair was justified, because the pictures of the teenager were "innocent".
Leibovitz’s photos of the Hannah Montana star, wearing just a blanket wrapped around her bare back and chest, caused outrage earlier this year (08) because the singer/actress was aged just 15 at the time.
Cyrus and Leibowitz both issued apologies over the shoot - but the photographer is adamant the results were misinterpreted.
She tells the New York Post, "The Miley picture was a beautiful, strong, simple picture.
"I think it’s actually sort of innocent on some level. She loved taking that picture, and she was ready to take that picture.
"It’s just that her audience wasn’t ready."

FALL OUT BOY are to change the way they work - so bassist PETE WENTZ can balance performing with caring for his newborn son.
The rocker and his wife Ashlee Simpson-Wentz welcomed Bronx Mowgli into the world last week (20Nov08).
And his fellow bandmates are making sure they are flexible so that Wentz can fit his music around his new role as a dad.
Drummer Andy Hurley tells NME.com, "I think having a child intrinsically changes things. It’s something we’ll be getting used to for the next couple of months - how to balance it for Pete. We’d do anything for Pete, Ashlee and baby Bronx. So we’ll see.
"I know Pete is a consummate workaholic so he’ll still try to do everything while being an awesome dad and probably bringing Bronx out whenever he can.
"I don’t think he can do that now because he’s still too little but I don’t think he wants it to change too drastically. It’s a balancing act when it’s your first baby. There’ll be some time for us to get used to it, but either way it’s awesome."

Veteran singer SIR CLIFF RICHARD is returning to his roots - he will reunite with THE SHADOWS for a series of shows more than 40 years after they split.
The Living Doll star enjoyed a string of U.K. chart-topping hits in the 1950s and ’60s with his backing band The Shadows, led by guitarist Hank Marvin.
They also appeared in several musical films, including Summer Holiday and The Young Ones.
In 1968, Richard split from The Shadows to pursue a solo career, and both the singer and the group enjoyed continued success in the British charts.
Now, 50 years on from their first hit Move It, the stars are to reunite for a major U.K. arena tour next year (09).
They are due to play 11 dates across Britain, kicking off with two nights at London’s O2 arena in September.
