Scottish rockers ORANGE JUICE were honoured with a lifetime achievement prize at the Tartan Clef Awards in Glasgow on Saturday (22Nov08).
The 1980s group were hailed for their contributions to the music industry at the ceremony, which celebrates the best in Scottish music - three years after frontman Edwyn Collins almost died from a brain haemorrhage.
The Fratellis picked up another of the night’s top gongs - the SECC Tartan Clef award - while local stars The Almighty won the rock category, singer Eddi Reader walked off with the Singer/Songwriter Of The Year prize, and Dougie MacLean took home the Guitar Traditional, Folk and Roots accolade.
Former Texas singer Sharleen Spiteri was also a winner at the show - she was presented with the Outstanding Contribution to Music award.
The Tartan Clef Awards raises money for the Nordoff-Robbins charity, which promotes the use of music as therapy for people with disabilities.

Teen sensation MILEY CYRUS celebrated her Sweet Sixteen with a host of celebrity friends on Sunday (23Nov08) when she was presented with a birthday cake backstage at the American Music Awards (AMAs).
The Hannah Montana star’s dad Billy Ray and mum Leticia gathered singers Jordin Sparks and Julianne Hough, and High School Musical actress Ashley Tisdale to present the birthday girl with a large three-tier cake prior to young Cyrus’ performance at the Los Angeles ceremony.
Cyrus had previously celebrated the age milestone with fans and famous pals alike at the start of October (08), when Disney bosses closed Disneyland in California to the public and threw a special bash for her at the theme park.

OASIS stars NOEL and LIAM GALLAGHER joined pal RICKY HATTON at his fight in Las Vegas on Sunday (23Nov08) night - helping to carry the boxer’s belts into the ring prior to the event.
The Wonderwall rockers walked the champion to the ring holding up Hatton’s International Boxing Organization (IBO) and Ring Magazine belts into the arena, before watching ringside at the MGM Grand Hotel as the sportsman slugged it out with Paulie Malignaggi.
Hatton defeated his opponent in the 11th round to retain his light-welterweight title, and the Gallaghers were among the first to congratulate him, hugging him and giving him a brotherly kiss on the cheek.
The three stars, who all hail from Manchester, England, have been good friends for years - with Hatton once commenting: "When I think of the most important things in my life, there’s my family first and Campbell my son, then I’ve got boxing; next comes Manchester City, then it’s Oasis." Fellow Brit David Beckham, Rocky star Sylvester Stallone, and action man Jason Statham were also in the audience to watch the big fight.

Eighties pop star BOY GEORGE handcuffed a male model to a hook on his bedroom wall after he took naked photographs of the man, a London court has heard.
The jury at Snaresbrook Crown Court in east London was told at the start of the trial on Monday (24Nov08) how the former Culture Club frontman lured Audun Carlsen to the bedroom of his home in east London, where another man was waiting.
Carlsen was bundled to the floor before George slipped one end of a pair of handcuffs over his right wrist, it was claimed.
The Karma Chameleon hitmaker then allegedly attached the other end to a hook on the wall, but after a brief struggle Carlsen managed to escape.
The jury heard that the singer and DJ - real name George O’Dowd - had fallen out with Norwegian Carlsen earlier after taking photos of him in a series of erotic poses.
Prosecutor Heather Norton said George first hired Carlsen, who advertised as a male escort on the Gaydar website, in January 2007.
He took naked pictures of the model, but the pair reportedly fell out when George accused Carlsen of tampering with his computer.
They later made up, and Carlsen returned to the flat in Shoreditch, east London in April last year (07) - when he was allegedly grabbed in a bedroom by the singer and another man.
Norton told the jury, "Mr O’Dowd produced handcuffs and placed one end over Mr Carlsen’s right wrist. The other handcuff was placed to a hook that was affixed to a wall above the end of the bed.
"Mr O’Dowd told the unidentified man to leave, which he did, then Mr O’Dowd too left the room, leaving Mr Carlsen alone, chained up. While he was unable to get loose, he managed to wrench the hook free." After a struggle, Carlsen managed to escape, and reported the incident to police.
George denies a charge of false imprisonment.
The trial continues.

LILY ALLEN still needs therapy to help her overcome her miscarriage - 10 months after the tragedy.
The British singer fell pregnant last year (07) with now ex-boyfriend Chemical Brothers star Ed Simmons - but lost the baby in January (08).
And the Smile hitmaker admits she still struggles to come to terms with the loss.
She tells British newspaper the Daily Mirror, "I was in a very, very dark place after the whole thing happened. That was the toughest thing I’ve had to go through in my life." But regular sessions with a therapist have helped Allen to deal with her grief - and she now looks positively towards the future.
She adds, "He’s really, really helping me. I feel it’s getting better and everything’s going to be ok."

BRITNEY SPEARS’ manager LARRY RUDOLPH has spoken of his close relationship with the singer - insisting he loves her like a daughter.
The music mogul is widely credited with masterminding the Toxic hitmaker’s career, but was reportedly dismissed as her manager after he united with her parents to force Spears into rehab at the beginning of last year (07).
But Spears is bouncing back following a tumultuous last 12 months - which has seen her lose custody of her kids to ex-husband Kevin Federline, shave off all her hair, and endure two stints in hospital.
Rudolph is now working on her current comeback campaign, and admits he will always be there for the troubled star.
He tells the Los Angeles Times, "I’ve known this girl for over half her life, since she was 13. We have a very close friendship, but it’s sort of hard for me to explain my relationship with her. It’s a friendship, it’s a business relationship, there are some paternal aspects to it.
"I understand her better than everyone other than her immediate family. The bottom line is I think she’s amazing. I love her. She’s been a big part of my life, and I’ve been a big part of her life. Being a part of this new phase in her career is something I was very open to."

BRYAN FERRY’s son ISAAC has blasted reports his father is dating his ex-girlfriend - insisting he barely knows the woman in question.
The father and son duo hit the headlines this weekend (22-23Nov08) after a British tabloid newspaper claimed the 63-year-old Roxy Music star is romantically involved with Amanda Sheppard, who, at 27, is 36 years his junior.
Ferry is alleged to have kept the relationship a secret from 22-year-old Isaac, who is said to have dated Sheppard when he was a teenager.
But Isaac has hit back at the reports - claiming he was never romantically involved with Sheppard.
He says, "I only met her once." Isaac is one of Ferry’s four sons from his 20-year marriage to ex-wife Lucy.

Rebellious teen actress KRISTEN STEWART has put her dreams of attending a prestigious American university on hold - because she has "an authority issue".
The 18-year-old Twilight star has yet to finish her high school studies, since her acting career has skyrocketed with attention from the new vampire film.
And she admits her own teen angst is to blame.
She says, "It’s sort of embarrassing but I’m finishing my last year of high school. It’s been a bit of a rough road. I’m entirely self-indulgent and I put things off so I just took a little longer but it’s ok.
"I have a bit of an authority issue. I’ve grown up saying yes I’m going to get to an Ivy League (private university). I definitely have a future in academics, it’s just not a really conventional one. I don’t know what happened but I’m going to do my own thing for a while."

BATMAN is set to be killed off after 70 years of crime-fighting - in the comic book which created the cartoon superhero.
Rumours are rife that in the next issue of DC Comics’ Batman, published on Thursday (27Nov08), Bruce Wayne will meet a grisly end.
The latest Batman movie, The Dark Knight, starring Christian Bale as Wayne, was a box office smash this year (08) and another film is said to be in the offing - but it appears the comic book equivalent has now run its course.
The Bruce Wayne character is now expected to retire from his duties, perhaps leading to a new Batman or an entirely different superhero to take his place.

Actress JODIE SWEETIN is "trying to stay positive" following her split from husband CODY HERPIN - for the sake of their baby daughter.
The former Full House star, 26, filed for legal separation from Herpin, 31, on Wednesday (19Nov08) in Orange County, California.
Sweetin married the movie set designer in July 2007, weeks after meeting him for the first time. They welcomed daughter, Zoie, on 12 April (08).
And Sweetin’s agent, Stella Alex, tells People.com that the actress is refusing to break down, because she needs to care for the seven-month-old tot.
She says, "(Sweetin) is trying to stay positive for Zoie. Her focus is the baby. Jodie’s got a huge support system in her family and friends and she thinks this is what’s best for her." While Sweetin’s estranged husband adds, "Not knowing what’s going on is hard.
It’s rough. Marriage is not taken lightly to me. It’s supposed to be forever."

Supermodel-turned-TV presenter TYRA BANKS is facing a raft of cuts to her daily talk show - as U.S. networks feel the pinch of the global economic downturn.
The Tyra Banks Show is to move to CW network’s afternoon slot and will see the production schedule cut from 34 weeks to just 26 in a bid to slash costs.
The series has suffered a nine per cent drop in ratings since November last year (07).

Vampire movie TWILIGHT has already begun breaking box office records - it has scored the most successful opening weekend ever for a female director.
The dark fantasy romance, starring Robert Pattinson, claimed the top spot at the U.S. box office after grossing $70.6 million (£47.1 million) in its debut weekend (beg22Nov08).
And the massive ticket sales have catapulted director Catherine Hardwicke into the history books.
Twilight easily broke the previous target set by a female-directed film Mimi Leder’s Deep Impact, which took $41.1 million (£27.5 million) during its opening weekend in 1998.
Hardwicke - who previously co-wrote and directed 2003 movie Thirteen - is already in talks to film a sequel to Twilight, which is based on a series of novels by Stephenie Meyer.

Top British conductor RICHARD HICKOX has died. He was 60.
Hickox, who was a regular conductor of major U.K. orchestras and the musical director of Opera Australia, passed away after a suspected heart attack following a recording session in Wales.
Hickox received five Gramophone Awards during his long-running career.
He is survived by his wife, opera singer Pamela Helen Stephen, and three children.

Hollywood action man STEVEN SEAGAL is to take part in a new reality series which will chronicle his little-known role as a police officer in Louisiana.
The Under Siege star has been a fully commissioned deputy at the state’s Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office for the last 20 years.
As well as going out on patrol, Seagal is said to be an expert marksman, working with the force’s SWAT team, and has instructed officers in firearms and hand-to-hand combat.
The new show, which has been commissioned by America’s A&E network, will be titled Steven Seagal: Lawman and will follow the actor as he fights crime in Louisiana.
And Seagal is delighted that the public will be able to see the reality of his life away from showbusiness.
He says, "I believe it’s important to show the nation all the positive work being accomplished here in Louisiana - to see the passion and commitment that comes from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in this post-Katrina environment."

LEONA LEWIS has stormed to the top of the U.K. albums chart for the second time with her re-released debut LP.
Lewis’ album Spirit claimed the number one spot when it first hit shops in November last year (07).
And the re-released version, containing several new songs including a cover version of Snow Patrol’s Run, has repeated the feat.
Dido’s new LP, Safe Trip Home, debuts at number two, while Stereophonics’ greatest hits album, Decade In The Sun, slips one place to three.

The former frontman of legendary blues rock band CANNED HEAT has died of a drugs overdose.
Robert Lucas, 46, passed away at a friend’s house in Long Beach, California on Sunday (23Nov08).
Lucas was one of four singers to have fronted the band during their 40-year career. Original singer Bob ‘The Bear’ Hite died of a heart attack in 1981.
Lucas recently left the group to pursue a solo career.
His former manager, Skip Taylor, paid tribute to the rocker: "His unequalled fury and stage presence, together with his earth-shattering vocal delivery, gave him the ability to channel many of the blues masters through his words, songs and musical ability. He has been recognised by blues fans and critics worldwide as one of the most inspired singer, player and songwriter talents of the past decade." Lucas is survived by his parents, sister and a teenage son.
