TITO JACKSON OPENS UP ABOUT LOAN LAWSUIT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:54 pm

MICHAEL JACKSON’s brother TITO has broken his silence over a lawsuit from former pal, British martial arts teacher MATT FIDDES, insisting the legal spat over an unpaid loan is meritless.
Fiddes, who has previously served as the Thriller hitmaker’s bodyguard, claims he gave Jackson 5 star Tito $29,800 (£20,000) earlier this year (08) so the musician could afford to cover a family trip to England to look at potential properties.
He subsequently filed suit against Jackson for almost $18,625 (£12,500), alleging the star hasn’t paid the loan back.
But, three months after the news first surfaced, Jackson has spoken out, dismissing the lawsuit as "totally false".
Jackson claims the 10-year friendship turned sour when Fiddes tried to get more involved in the filming of TV documentary The Jacksons Are Coming, which chronicled the family’s search for a U.K. home earlier this summer (08).
And when he realised Fiddes was just using him to further his own career, Jackson cut all ties with the martial artist and even stepped down as godfather to Fiddes’ children.
He says, "When I saw Matt trying to run me the way he wanted, I put a stop to it. That’s when things started falling apart. Some people want to be seen in your company and want to piggyback on your 40 years of hard work. I was supposed to have been godfather to two of his kids, but I cancelled that, because I can’t be a godfather if I can’t even get along with the father." But Jackson insists he’s not angry at his old friend’s behaviour, because he’s been dealing with people like that since finding fame with the ABC hitmakers.
He adds, "Matt’s a very nice guy and I’m not mad at him. I’m disappointed and that’s worse. I shared a lot with him and thought he was my friend… People try and use you because of the family name, and I just deal with it because I’ve been dealing with it all my life."

WINEHOUSE PAYS FOR HUSBAND’S REHAB TRIP

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:51 pm

AMY WINEHOUSE has come under fire from her family after relatives discovered she has picked up the bill for her recently-released husband BLAKE FIELDER-CIVIL’s stint in rehab.
The Rehab hitmaker’s beau was freed from prison in Suffolk, England earlier this month (Nov08) after serving almost a year behind bars in relation to an attack on a pub landlord.
He is alleged to have struck an early release deal with prosecutors, which requires him to undergo drug treatment for his narcotics addiction.
Fielder-Civil checked into a rehabilitation facility in Surrey, south east England after his release - and Winehouse has reportedly paid for the $44,700 (£30,000) stay.
A source tells Britain’s The Sun newspaper, "Amy’s nearest and dearest are exasperated by her decision. While Blake was inside it finally looked like she was getting her life back on track.
"Blake’s influence is entirely destructive for Amy. A crisis meeting has been held and a number of options have been discussed to sever contact for good." Fielder-Civil was recently forced to deny reports the singer was dumping him, insisting the couple will be together forever.
Winehouse herself has yet to speak out about the tabloid claims.

ALLEN GETS STRIP-SEARCHED IN DUBAI

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:51 pm

British pop star LILY ALLEN was reportedly subjected to a humiliating strip search after landing in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday (20Nov08) for the launch of an exclusive Dubai hotel.
The Smile singer joined celebrities including Hollywood stars Robert De Niro, Denzel Washington, Charlize Theron and Lindsay Lohan, to watch a performance by Kylie Minogue at the grand opening of the Atlantis Palms Hotel on the man-made Palm Jumeirah Island.
But before mingling with the A-list guests, Allen and her pal Nick Frew were forced to undergo a full-body search by airport security.
According to Britain’s The Sun newspaper, Allen was reportedly overheard telling Welsh actor and fellow party guest Rhys Ifans, "I was strip searched at the airport. It wasn’t that bad. But Nick got the full works." However, Allen recovered from the incident in time for the glitzy bash, where she donned a blue strapless gown and accessorised her outfit with $14.9 million (£10 million)-worth of borrowed diamonds.

MADDEN ‘FINE’ AFTER HILTON SPLIT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:51 pm

BENJI MADDEN is feeling "fine" after his break-up with PARIS HILTON, according to twin brother and GOOD CHARLOTTE bandmate JOEL.
The couple announced their nine-month relationship had come to an end on Wednesday (19Nov08), and Hilton confirmed the pair were "taking a break" from each other.
But despite the split Madden is coping well, according to his twin.
He tells Access Hollywood, "He’s a good guy and he’ll be fine and she’ll be fine. They’ll both be fine. I don’t think at the end of the day anyone reading it was like ‘Oh my gosh! What is he gonna do?’ or ‘What is she gonna do?’ Everyone was kind of like, ‘Oh.’ "I think that Benj - he does his best, when he is with someone, to adapt to what they’re into or whatever… He’s down though, he doesn’t care, he doesn’t judge. He accepts anything." Reports suggested that Benji was jealous of Hilton meeting up with her ex Stavros Niachros - but Joel refutes the rumours.
He adds, "He’s not possessive, but he’s very clear about what he’s cool with.
Very clear… (He) speaks his mind." And even though the couple have gone their separate ways, Hilton will remain a presence within the Madden family, because her longtime pal Nicole Richie is dating Joel.
"Paris is someone we all know. She’s been friends with Nicole since they were like three, and it’s not like we’re never gonna see her again… You just have to go, ‘Hey you guys, if it’s not working out, figure it out.’ "But we all have to kind of see each other. So I think that whatever they figure out they will. But it’s all good. Benji’s doing good."

RITCHIE GIVES ROCCO SHERLOCK HOLMES CAMEO

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:48 pm

GUY RITCHIE is giving his son with MADONNA a headstart in the showbiz industry - eight year old ROCCO will make a cameo in the filmmaker’s upcoming movie SHERLOCK HOLMES.
The RocknRolla director’s seven-and-a-half year marriage to the pop superstar was brought to an end on Friday (21Nov08), when a London judge granted the former couple a quick divorce.
Now Ritchie has reportedly treated his son to a walk on role in Sherlock Holmes, which stars Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law.
But the move is sure to infuriate Madonna, who reportedly refused to let her daughter Lourdes, from a previous relationship, take on a part in the Harry Potter movie franchise last year (07).
Ritchie and Madonna agreed to share custody of Rocco and adopted son David, three, with the boys splitting their time between the singer’s U.S. home and the moviemaker’s U.K. house.
Lourdes, 12, will live full-time with her mother.

McCARTNEY ADOPTS FEMALE ALTER EGO FOR ALBUM RECORDING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:48 pm

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY adopted a bizarre new persona to record his latest album ELECTRIC ARGUMENTS - renaming himself GLADYS JENKINS to avoid the pressure of living up to his icon status.
The former Beatle confesses he has an odd way of conquering his nerves and overcoming his inhibitions when making a new LP - but insists it’s a tried and tested method that has produced masterpieces in the past.
He says, "We decided to go undercover, to do whatever we wanted.
"That way, when you go to the microphone, I don’t think of it as going as Paul McCartney and it frees you up. I’d say, ‘Right, you’re going to become Gladys Jenkins.’ "It was quite thrilling, that’s how we approached (classic 1967 Beatles record) Sgt. Pepper’s. It’s like you’re playing instead of working."

DEPP FILM BOSSES FACING ROAD COLLAPSE BILL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:48 pm

Movie bosses behind JOHNNY DEPP’s forthcoming release PUBLIC ENEMIES are facing an additional filming cost from the mayor of the Wisconsin county the crime thriller was shot in - after a local road collapsed as a result of the traffic diversions to accommodate shooting.
The John Dillinger biopic was filmed in Columbus in March (08) after producers were attracted to the area by the governor’s new movie incentives.
But during filming, state highway traffic had to be diverted away from the city centre and onto less congested routes - but the road, in Dodge County, could not handle the extra load and collapsed.
County officials were subsequently left with a $116,000 (£77,850) repair bill - leading to a lawsuit against Columbus city officials.
Columbus Mayor Nancy Osterhaus is now looking to split the cost with executives at movie studio Universal.
Public Enemies is scheduled for release in summer 2009.

UNION MEMBERS ON VERGE OF STRIKE ACTION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:45 pm

LATEST: The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) will ask its members to authorise a strike, after the first discussion with movie studios in four months failed to produce a result.
Cardholders of the 120,000-strong SAG rejected a three-year deal offered by the major Hollywood studios and TV networks earlier this year (Jul08), and bosses of the actors’ union were urged to ballot its members over strike action.
Negotiators on behalf of the organisation’s members adjourned talks with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) on Saturday morning (22Nov08) after they were unable to reach a compromise after two marathon sessions with federal mediator Juan Carlos Gonzalez.
And now SAG has said in a statement it will launch a "full-scale education campaign in support of a strike authorization".
It continued, "We have already made difficult decisions and sacrifices in an attempt to reach agreement. Now it’s time for SAG members to stand united and empower the national negotiating committee to bargain with the strength of a possible work stoppage behind them." The statement did not detail what had caused the action, but claimed that "management continues to insist on terms we cannot responsibly accept." The vote for strike action would take more than a month and require at least a 75 per cent approval from members to be passed.
SAG is pushing for more money for actors when their work is released on DVD, plus a greater say in the endorsement of products on-air.

And now Duchovny has dropped the suit he filed against the tabloid, according to E! Online.

NEWMAN’S WILL MADE PUBLIC

The estate of late movie legend PAUL NEWMAN will sell off his beloved race cars to the highest bidder, as per the instructions left in his will.
The Oscar winner lost his battle with cancer in September (08) and details of his will were made public this week (begs17Nov08).
The documents reveal Newman left all his assets to his wife, actress Joanne Woodward, with his movie accolades, including three Academy Awards, going to his Newman’s Own Foundation.

VELVET REVOLVER SPLIT FROM LABEL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:42 pm

VELVET REVOLVER have confirmed reports they’ve split from record label RCA.
In a posting on his website, guitarist Slash insists the supergroup and label executives have "parted amicably".
He claims the fact his band has no singer - after sacking Scott Weiland in April (08) - and therefore cannot produce a contracted third album led to the label split.
He writes, "The truth is not as negative as the rumour. The band owed RCA money for a third album, which, at this time, they are unable to produce (no singer). The band and RCA parted amicably. When they are recording the new album, it most likely will be for a new label." The group has yet to name a new frontman, but former Skid Row star Sebastian Bach and ex-Spacehog singer Royston Langdon have been linked to the vacancy in recent months.

VATICAN FORGIVES LENNON FOR JESUS COMMENT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:42 pm

The Vatican has formally forgiven late BEATLE JOHN LENNON for declaring the Fab Four "more popular than Jesus" - more than 40 years after the comments were made.
The Imagine legend, who was shot dead in New York in 1980, angered Christians and religious leaders with his controversial remarks in 1966.
He told a journalist, "Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I do not know what will go first, rock ‘n’ roll or Christianity… We’re more popular than Jesus now." At the time, the comments caused uproar and officials of the Roman Catholic Church took offence to Lennon’s claims.
But on Saturday (22Nov08), the Vatican’s official newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, pardoned Lennon in an editorial - blaming the group’s immense rise to fame for his comments.
In a special issue marking the 40th anniversary of the Beatles’ White Album, the publication’s editors write, "After so many years, it sounds merely like the boasting of an English working-class lad struggling to cope with unexpected success." The article goes on to praise the pop icons, saying only "snobs" would dismiss the Beatles’ songs.

JACKSON’S WARDROBE MALFUNCTION BATTLE BACK ON

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:24 am

JANET JACKSON’s infamous wardrobe malfunction at the 2004 SuperBowl is set to be reviewed again - to see if TV bosses at CBS can be held responsible in any way for the nipple-revealing half-time show scandal.
U.S. Federal Communications Commission officials demanded CBS bosses pay a $550,000 (GBP366,600) fine after reviewing the incident, but a federal court overturned the decision, stating that network chiefs could not be held accountable.
Now, almost five years after the ‘nipplegate’ scandal, government officials are asking the Supreme Court to review the footage again, suggesting the panel which oversaw the original investigation may have "erred in holding that the federal communications commission acted arbitrarily and capriciously."
