SAMUEL L. JACKSON, EDDIE MURPHY and DENZEL WASHINGTON are among the stars caught up in a messy neighbourhood battle in the Hollywood Hills.
The trio lives in the swanky Beverly Park compound near Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles, where sprawling estates cost upwards of $14 million (GBP9.3 million).
But their gated peace of mind has literally hit a bump in the road - a new row over an access street has split the north and south sides of the community, which also includes homes owned by singer Reba McEntire and Sylvester Stallone.
According to the Los Angeles Times newspaper, residents of North Beverly Park, which include Stallone, Murphy and Washington, are attempting to limit their South Beverly Park neighbours’ use of a road that winds through their neighbourhood - because residents there are refusing to pay for the access route’s security and maintenance.
As a result, while South Beverly Park residents, including Jackson, can still use the short cut, their relatives, guests, gardeners and nannies have to wind around the hills for six miles to enter through the neighbourhood’s south gate.
And the southerners are so livid about the new restrictions, they’re suing the North Beverly Park Homeowners Association, the organisation behind the new road access rules.
Movie producer Mike Medavoy’s wife Irena, who lives in North Beverly Park, insists she and her neighbours have every right to prevent contractors from using their streets as access roads to the south.
She tells the publication, "We don’t know these workers. We don’t know who’s coming in. We’re going to have to add extra security." Medavoy insists the North Beverly Park neighbours are merely hoping for a contribution from their southern neighbours, so that roads can be maintained and security improved.
Lawyers for both sides in the bizarre community battle are expected to make their closing arguments in Santa Monica Superior Court, California on Friday (21Nov08).

GREGORY PECK’s actor grandson ETHAN PECK is to take on the role HEATH LEDGER played in 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU when the hit film is made into a TV series.
Based on William Shakespeare’s The Taming of The Shrew, the 1999 movie starred Ledger and Julia Stiles.

Legendary film and TV composer IRVING GERTZ has died at his home in West Hollywood. He was 93.
Gertz wrote music for over 200 films and TV episodes and is best known for music he created for cult science-fiction films such as It Came From Outer Space and The Incredible Shrinking Man and TV series such as Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and Peyton Place.
Born in Rhode Island, Gertz studied at the Providence College of Music and became a state classical composer of note before moving to Hollywood, where he landed a job at Columbia Pictures in the late 1930s.
He served as an artillery gunner and then as an officer in the Army Signal Corps before returning to Columbia after World War II.
He joined Universal International in the early 1950s and moved to 20th Century Fox, where he became the studio’s music director, a decade later.

BRITNEY SPEARS dances off the strains of life because rehearsal spaces and studios are like therapy meccas for the pop star.
The Toxic singer reveals she hits the dance floor whenever she’s feeling down, stressed or troubled in her new MTV documentary, Britney Spears: For The Record.
She explains, "Everybody has a world that they create around themselves. If I have a lot of nervous energy, when I start dancing it all goes away and I just feel emotion." And she admits the dancefloor helped her control her emotions over the past 12 months, which saw her twice committed to hospital with apparent mental issues and in the midst of a bitter custody battle with her ex-husband Kevin Federline over their two young sons.
She explains, "People think that when you go through something in your life you need to go to therapy, but for me art is therapy because it’s like you’re expressing yourself in such a spiritual way.
"Sometimes you don’t need to use words to go through what you need to go through. Sometimes it’s an emotion you need to feel when you dance that you need to touch on and the only thing that can touch it is when you move a certain way." The MTV special airs in America on 30 November (08).

Beloved entertainer BOB HOPE is to be honoured with a new U.S. postage stamp next year (09).
The late Road To Bali star’s new stamp will be unveiled at a ceremony on New York’s Ellis Island, where the British-born singer/actor first arrived in America as an immigrant.
Hope, who died in 2003, becomes the first person to benefit from a new U.S.
postal rule change, which allows celebrities to be honoured on stamps five years after their death.
Before the 2007 rule change, only ex-presidents could be honoured in such a way. Everyone else had to wait at least 10 years after their death.

NATALIE COLE is set to bounce back from a summer health scare by wishing Los Angeles shoppers a merry Christmas.
The veteran soul star, 58, was rushed to hospital with kidney failure in September (08) and has only just returned to the road with a dialysis machine by her side.
But Cole, who cancelled a handful of shows due to her illness, is committed to her star billing at a free festive concert at Los Angeles shopping mecca The Grove on Sunday (23Nov08).

Country star TAYLOR SWIFT’s amazing chart week in America continues after landing six debuts in the new Billboard Hot 100.
The Love Story singer failed to claim a chart double by dethroning rapper T.I. from the top of the pop charts, but she claims her sixth top 20 debut of 2008 with White Horse at 13 and another five hits on the chart.
The feat ties Swift with Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana for the most Hot 100 hits in one week - with seven.
The singer, who debuted her new album Fearless at the top of the charts on Wednesday (19Nov08), also becomes the first artist ever to score six top 20 debuts in the same calendar year.
T.I. scores a fourth non-consecutive week at number one with Live Your Life and a third consecutive week as the chart’s one and two - his Whatever You Like hit stays put at two.
Beyonce’s If I Were a Boy jumps up to three, while Katy Perry’s Hot N Cold and Pink’s So What round out the new top five.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS frontman SCOTT WEILAND has hinted he plans to give up touring after telling a Los Angeles publication he hates spending time away from his kids.
The rocker, who was sacked as Velvet Revolver’s singer in April (08), admits it upsets him when he misses a month of his kids’ lives due to concert commitments.
He tells L.A. Weekly, "It pains me when I am gone for a month, even, and I come back and there’s differences - big positive amazing differences, beautiful differences - that I haven’t been a part of because I’ve been working." And the singer has reiterated his retirement plans in a new PulseofRadio.com interview, explaining, "I kind of want to stop that phase of my life, being on the road non-stop." Weiland has just completed a six-month tour with the reunited Stone Temple Pilots and releases a solo album, Happy In Galoshes, on 25 November (08).
His plans to quit touring will have to wait - he will perform at a series of radio festivals in December (08) before kicking off a U.S. solo tour in January (09), according to Blabbermouth.net.

Medics have started removing monitoring equipment from comatose DEFTONES star CHI CHENG’s hospital room, convinced the bass player will recover from his 3 November (08) car crash once he wakes.
The rocker’s mother Jeanne has been blogging about her son’s condition online, and she’s happy with his slow but sure progress.
She reveals Cheng, 38, showed a little response to tests last week (ends14Nov08), but he remains unconscious in a California hospital.
She writes, "Chi’s condition remains the same - serious, but stable. He still lies in a coma, however his vitals (heart, lungs, and blood pressure) all exhibit very stable functions and doctors have begun removing much of the excess monitoring equipment.
"Chi remains strong in his fight to recover."

R&B superstar JANET JACKSON is taking her Rock Witchu tour to Japan - after scrapping a string of U.S. shows last month (Oct08) as a result of illness and scheduling conflicts.
The Nasty singer was forced to postpone a number of shows on the North American leg of her roadshow after falling ill with a vertigo-related condition.
However, the seven rescheduled dates were then scrapped altogether due to "conflicts in the singer’s schedule" - amid rumours of poor ticket sales.
But now Jackson is preparing to hit the road once more for her first tour of Japan in six years (02).
She will perform four dates in the country between 14 to 22 February (08), according to website JapanToday.com.

Actress JENNIFER GARNER has been awarded a permanent restraining order against her alleged stalker, ordering him to stay away from her family for the next three years.
The Alias star was granted a temporary restraining order against Steven Burky on 7 November (08) after she submitted an alarming declaration to the Los Angeles Superior Court detailing his behaviour.
Under the permanent order, obtained on Thursday (20Nov08) morning, Burky must also stay 100 yards (300 feet/91 metres) from the actress, husband Ben Affleck, their daughter Violet, the couple’s nanny, housekeeper and others.
Garner alleged in her declaration: "Mr Burky has been stalking and harassing me," sending "packages and letters containing delusional and paranoid thoughts and following me around the country… his obsessive and harassing behaviour has escalated to the point of becoming dangerous and threatening".
Burky first initiated contact with Garner in 2002, when he disguised himself as a college student in Ohio and then as a punk rocker at a record store in Los Angeles in order to meet her, according to the New York Daily News.
He even sent an email to a member of Garner’s film crew in February (08), begging that the star be warned about a vision he had in which she would be persecuted by a mob.
Burky is reportedly under involuntary psychiatric hold following the Los Angeles Police Department’s involvement in the case.

MADONNA and GUY RITCHIE will be granted the first decree in their divorce in London on Friday (21Nov08), according to new court documents.
London’s High Court lists "Ciccone M L v Ritchie G S", a case for "matrimonial and civil partnership causes for pronouncement of decree," where a judge is expected to grant the couple a preliminary divorce.
Madonna and Ritchie announced their separation last month (Oct08) after seven-and-a-half years of marriage, and the split could be made official in six weeks, if there are no objections to the decree.
Madonna and Ritchie are not expected to appear in court.
Moviemaker Ritchie is reportedly set to relinquish any rights to his wife’s fortune as part of the divorce deal - in a bid to win access to the couple’s children.
The pop superstar is rumoured to be planning to leave England and return to her native U.S. with their children - eight-year-old son Rocco, adopted tot David Banda, three, and Madonna’s 12-year-old daughter, Lourdes, from a previous relationship with fitness trainer Carlos Leon.
